McCormick Place Guest House

Our room was lovely, the bed was comfy. Lots of lighting and temperature options so we slept like a baby. The bathroom is shared with other guests, so as long as you have courteous fellows, it was a spacious, clean bathroom. We didn't spend much time in the large living area, but it was easy to check in and check out and lock ourroom door as each room has its own key. Thank you!

The inside was beautifully decorated, tidy and clean. Lots of stairs but that didn’t bother me. At first, I wasn’t sure from the look of the area but I felt super safe staying there. Cute back patio as well.

Didn’t know it would be a shared experience. Also was very cold the entire time with no way to get in contact with anyone to change thermostat.

Parking was a little confusing on the street cleaning. But everything else was amazing! I felt safe to sleep there in a whole new state!

I should've paid more attention to the personal amenities or lack of. No wash cloth, No soap, No closet, No television in private room, No coffee and now I really understand that you need your own bathroom not a shared one.

Property was fine, no AC in upstairs room and happened to be hottest day of the year. Admittedly I should have read the amenities closer but expected AC to be standard. Ended up leaving and not staying on the room.

The property is in a decent location on the south side of Chicago. It's near Soldier Field with plenty of free street parking in front. We had difficulty getting into the house because the code I was given didn't work. We were lucky that some cleaning staff came to let us in. When I called to resolve it before we left to go to a concert, the manager changed the code and for a while, that one wasn't working either. She made it seem that I was at fault for the code not working. The room we stayed in was nice and large with a comfy bed. However, the shared bathroom didn't have a clean tub and they don't provide any hand towels.

It was not made clear to us or to other guests that there would be shared space with other guest. Shared bathroom and kitchen and television. Once we all figured it out evereything was fine but I think they should be more telling that it is more like a hostel then a hotel.

The stay was comfortable. We didn’t have any issues at all getting in or out. It was very clean.

The bathroom is overrun with ants they were crawling all over the face bowl. When you fill the face bowl up you’d have about 100 ants floating in the water which would take over 20 minutes to drain so you’d have these ants floating in stagnant water… I couldn’t stay a second night. Then there were ants crawling around on the desk in my room. Who knew where else they were.

The shower in the basement has very low pressure and made it difficult to take a shower. The comforter in room #1 looked a little dirty and probably needs to be replaced or thoroughly cleaned. I was offered late checkout for $30 via an email the night before and I sent an email 2 hours before checkout requesting this. The cleaning crew showed up a little after checkout and they walked in while I was relaxing in bed. I was under the impression I was approved for late checkout since I did not receive any communication after my email. Long story short I and my girlfriend had to scramble and gather our things on short notice. I have stayed at this location before and I love it and had a great experience previous to this one. I am considering if I will stay again or choose another location. I would like the owners or property manager to consider my feedback and maybe do something to make me feel better to consider staying here again. I visit the city often and if they want to keep my business a friendly follow up gesture will go a long way to making decision easier for the future.

The property is nicely appointed, and our stay could have been pleasant save for a couple of major issues. We arrived to find stains on the comforter and sheets where seemingly dye from the grey pillow shams had bled on them. The bathroom had a small overflowing trash can and rolls of toilet tissue that had been splashed with what could have been some sort of cleaning fluid. Finally, our sleep was disrupted by partying that started after midnight and went on until 5 a.m. in the morning. Management was immediately responsive to all of these issues, and our bed linens were satisfactorily changed out. However, the stained toilet paper remained and the can in the bathroom was just too small for a shared bath, and remained overflowing. Also, lots of apologies were offered as a result of the boisterous guests who partied right outside of our door, but no sort of financial compensation was ever offered.

Beautiful decor, spotlessly clean

Unsafe. Dirty. Smoke detector went off every 30 seconds. I timed it. Dirty underwear was left in areas of those house. Linens weren’t washed. Had food on them. Management was rude when we tried to call. Door lock didn’t even work properly. Had to wedge chair under door.

Broken glass on rug. Musty smelling towels. No washcloths or smaller towels. No luggage rack or place to put suitcases. No amenities like Kleenex. Shared bathroom but no paper towels so you had to take your musty smelling bath towel each time to bathroom. Bed and Facility was clean except for aforementioned towels and broken glass

Nice place. In the downstairs room you can hear everyone coming and going, but not a problem if you’re not a light sleeper.

The bed was comfortable, sharing a bathroom was a little inconvenient but not terrible, and there's a nice shared kitchen and living space upstairs. I was sick for my stay and couldn't find tissues anywhere which I think should be stocked in every room. I quickly noticed that the smoke detector was missing in my room (empty bracket), and the window is missing the catch for the latch so there's no way to lock it. Someone could get in from the outside without any trouble. On the security note, the doors to the rooms are super lightweight and it felt like a joke to lock your door. Better doors would also reduce noise from people talking in the hallway, etc. There were some things about the bathroom that needed maintenance too, like the faucet was wiggly, the shelf above the toilet sloped downward (maybe that's to discourage leaving anything there), and the shower door leaked out onto the floor. The shower head was spraying water on the ceiling until I tightened it. I get that this is a budget place to stay, but please fix the basic safety things.

Upstairs room number 3 was extremely hot , I wish there were Kleenex and cleaning wipes accessible to wipe down the bathroom before and after use but overall the house is nice

The walls are very thin, and people were very loud coming and going at all hours of the night. The location is convenient but the noise caused us to be awake multiple times throughout the night.

It was for Lollapalooza so we got home late and started pretty early, but it was a great stay. We arrived and our key code didn't work. A quick phone call and we were in and everything worked well all weekend, Would reccomend.

I didn’t gain entrance to the building. No one responded to my calls or text messages. Voicemail was full so I couldn’t even leave a message. Customer support had no idea what to do and advices me to find another hotel which I did at considerable cost.

The owners of the property are terrible with their communication and literally waited until 2 hours before check in to send the link to pay the deposit. They sent the information regarding check in one minute before check in time. The room was decent but poorly lit, I had to use the light on my phone majority of the time just to see or open the curtains. This property is located directly across the streets from the projects and is in an unsafe neighborhood so I don’t recommend walking anywhere at night. You will see people hanging out at night. The cops were arresting someone right next door to the property my last night there. Bring your own towels because you won’t get a wash cloth. Overall, you get what you pay for don’t expect much and you’ll be fine.

There was an inconvenience with a room we previously booked but the host was very quick with accommodations and responded quickly every time. Everything else was great for the one night that we stayed. Would definitely stay again.

Once you book the room, they send you an email asking for a 500$ deposit to be sent to them via Venmo or PayPal in spite of this, not being mentioned before the booking. So you’re stuck between sending somebody you don’t know cash, and not to be allowed to check in.

Was charged for this room and never stayed wouldn’t allow me to cancel tried contacting the owners and they never responded to my messages and I called they never answered. Asked for $200 deposit by Zelle AFTER I booked and paid for the room. Nowhere in the booking does it say deposit. I was sent a separate message after booking asked by for deposit. I don’t even have Zelle and never used it. I need a full refund for a place I’ve never even stepped foot in.

I booked 2 rooms through hotels.com. They mentioned on their page on the Hotels.com site that they would take credit cards. Once I made the booking, they sent me an email asking for a 300-500$ deposit per room to be sent to them via venmo or paypal. When I refused to pay on the basis that this is unconventional, and that they mentioned that they would take credit cards, they refused to check me in after I showed up on time, and didn't refund my nights.

Villa Dubois owns more than one property. I never received any communications from them before my stay and checked out their website, which had specific instructions mentioned nowhere on Expedia. When you call, there’s no option to speak to anyone OR to even leave a message. They say to email or text only. I sent 2 texts and one email before my booking and never heard back. I never received emails with how to access the property, and when I arrived the housekeeper refused to let me in by using Google translate to tell me her boss said no. I finally received a text from her boss saying there was an issue to the room I had and I would have to walk 3 blocks away to another of their homes. I did and still couldn’t get in because I hadn’t received the access instructions email. Once I finally did, there were only 2 towels for my 4 day visit, one of which was torn and stained, dead gnats and mosquitoes in the bathroom, someone else’s toilet paper in the toilet, no shampoo, conditioner or soap and the thermostat had a lock on it where I couldn’t adjust the temperature. They charged me a deposit outside of Expedia when I checked in via square and didn’t opt to refund it until a week after I checked out, and it took another week to go through. I cannot believe I was made to walk around bronzeville with my luggage and groceries with no way to contact them, and they refused to pay for my Uber or Lyft to the next house just for it to be in the shape it was in.

It’s great for brief overnight stays that are within 10min drives Fulton Market and McCormick Place.

No one cleaned my room while I stayed there. For me, this was enough. I planned on leaving in the morning and not returning until night. I stayed 5 nights, the shared bathroom and kitchen were always clean. There is a tv in the living room which I did not use. The room was clean, 2 bath towels were provided. No toiletries, which again, was fine with me. Shoes are not permitted to be worn inside. The other guests kept to themselves, this was an orderly place, and the AC worked well, I slept well. The neighborhood, as I understand, is less desirable as it is located by a section 8 apartment complex. My experience is the people were friendly and I did not feel my safety was an issue. The location is walking distance to bus stops and also to the L train. I would stay here again. I also want to clarify, I saw a review that claimed that they were required to send a foto copy of their credit/debit card. This was not my experience.

For a last-minute option, I was pleasantly surprised! I utilized the train service to get there from O’Hare, and although it was cold it was a quick walk to the property. The home was safe, comfortable, and quiet. Check-in and check out was easy, and when I had questions the owners were fairly quick to respond. There are plenty of food options nearby, but if you prefer cooking a quick train ride to the grocery store is an option as well (which is what I did for breakfast). If you’re looking for an affordable, safe, quiet place to stay, this is it! I’ll definitely book again soon!

I stayed 6 nights during my conference. They gave me the biggest room on the first floor which was cool. It’s really close to the train station and grocery store.

Nice and clean. Only one bathroom for the residence. Neighborhood felt safe and is being renovated. Walking distance to Guaranteed Rate Field. The only service here is via text or email, so you never talk to a person. Pillows were rather flat and uncomfortable. Room had small balcony. Free coffee
