AC was leaking on the floor. No housekeeping for a 2 night stay. Shower was tiny, but I didn't end up using it anyway. There is a huge empty area that they could easily put in a tub. The few updates attempted just made the older features look worse. The only way to get to your room is past the office, which makes for a very long walk if your car is parked far from the office.

Room was ice cold. No blankets on the bed only a very thin bedspread. We thought maybe housekeeping had missed it but when we called down to the front desk attendant said they didn’t have any.

Minor problem was a loose sink faucet handle. Only 2 thin bath towels and washcloths - no hand towels, bath mat or shampoo. Parking spaces are a little narrow. Otherwise no complaints.

Not a good value for the price. All the bedding and chair were stained. The floor was dirty. Even though the room had a kitchen there was nothing in it- not a spoon or cup or pan. The whole place had a neglected feel about it.

They don't provide hair dryer, the kitchen is nice and remodeled but the hotel does not not provide neither a coffee machine or toaster. The hotel have an ice machine in the alley but they disconnect it some nights. No extra blankets or pillows. Bathroom towels were very thin and cheap. If you like to have a cheap hotel, this is for you. For me I should have expected much more for what I paid for. I requested and was provided a non smoking room however one night the room above ours was occupied and I don't know how but we feel someone was in our room smoking, I waked very congested due to the cigarette smoke in our room. The parking lot was full of junkies at night, every night leaving trash everywhere, definitively don't recommend and will never comeback. For $ 10.00 more a night you can get a lot nicer and better hotels nearby.

Tears in the sheets, and plastic liner in bed. Only 2 pillows, 2 towels, 2 soaps, no shampoo.. very light on the extras. The location is great and the price was right, so that was good

It’s an older motel so don’t expect the Hilton standards. They have cameras all over the place and a sign up that says no visitors so it was a very quiet place. They have a grass courtyard in the middle with a little garden so that was nice to see. There only parking is out front so you have to walk like we did to the back of the hotel. Beds were comfortable. No bugs. There was some damage to the inside doors but again it was old. Kitchen was nice only thing that seems updated. Wouldn’t recommend walking around barefoot in the room as my kids did and their feet were black by bedtime. Would stay here again if I needed something cheap and decent.

This place is horrible. Stay away at all cost. You have people who live there hanging out harassing you wanting to do drugs and hook up hanging outside all hours of the night. The staff doesn’t care about anything. First room they gave us was filthy. Black mold covered the shower curtain. Went back to front desk said something. They got an attitude but gave us another room. This room was just as bad. Filthy. Dirty sheets dirty towels. Mold in the bathroom. We ended up cutting our losses and leaving not staying there. We didn’t feel safe due to the harassment of the guys who lived there and it was just too dirty.

It was absolutely and honestly nothing like the images that they display up here. Upon opening the door. Noticed the comforter were heavily stained. When i pulled the comforter off. It had a very huge burn hole on it. About the size of 4 irons. Then immediately Noticed the very dirty, dingy like pillows. The refrigerator and stand will fall or collapse soon. The chair in the room was filthy. Burn holes and all. Shower hadn't been cleaned. Toilet seat hadn't been cleaned. Had urine all over it. Upon trying to wash my hands. The handle on the faucet fell off once i touched it. I didn't even bother asking for a refund or anything. Because i felt like they gave me this room on purpose. I will be reaching out to the BBB. And supply them with the videos that I took of the room. Oh, and the smell of the room was very moving.

The entire experience was unpleasant. Check in was difficult with the "receptionist" not being able to find the reservation and not communicating, at all, what was going on. Literally just bustling about w/o saying a word. Some other employee/owner breezed in behind their security barrier desk ,chatted a bit, glanced my way, all w/o a word. Gave serious creep vibes. Door to room was "flimsy". Floor in room was dirty. Bathroom had hair and a few dead bugs in various places, including a "hairball" smashed on the back of the door. Luckily I bought one of those extra door locks because around 1:30 am someone tried to enter the room. I didn\'t stay the 2nd night I had booked

Though i appreciate the effort to "update" the rooms, they were dirty, blankets had questionable stains and residue left in the freezer. Also, the shower curtain had mildew stains.

The floor was dirty I stayed there for 9 days never once they came and gave me fresh trashbag never empty my trash air conditioner needs to be cleaned bed was comfy but the cover and sheet had burnholes all over never asked me if I need some fresh towels room was old bad smell all over all stinking place

Worst hotel I have ever stayed at it was 12° outside. They had no heat. He would not give us heaters or more blankets and could not get a refund.

It was quiet even when located on major Ave nobody was noisy in the room friendly staff toward my service dog they did not give me any problems .. what I had with other hotels in the same city

I was able to check in with no trouble. Staff was attentive. I was content w the condition of my room. It had obviously been renovated. Room was a little dusty but for the price I paid, I dont have any real complaints (you get what you pay for). I was able to sit outside and read in the center area, while my son slept. It wasnt quiet but it wasnt disturbingly loud. It was well lit, and I was comfortable. Overall I'd give this stay an 8/10. If you are trying to go on vacation while on a budget, this is truly the best of the worst.

It was my Birthday weekend and I booked a deluxe king room with the kitchenette but ended up with a deluxe king room without the kitchenette. Not only that our room was all the way at the end in a corner where I didn’t feel comfortable. When I went to the front desk to ask about my reservation he told me I booked for a deluxe king without the kitchenette, ok cool but when I asked to change rooms because I didn’t feel comfortable at the end of the walkway he told me they were all booked up and if I have any problems just let him know. Mind you they had more than 8 vacant rooms with the kitchenette on the bottom floor where we were staying and I’m pretty sure more on the 2nd floor. Even without the kitchenette I would have rather had another room but lesson learnt, my first and last time staying at this hotel. I did make the best of my birthday which was Saturday, April 5 and enjoyed myself at the beach while I was down there.

Not a pet friendly location. Customer swrvice rep at the desk was rude at check-in and check-out. Air conditioning did not work in the room. Customer swrvixe refused to print off a receipt upon check-out and said expedia is responsible for reciepts.

the staff was half dressed and barefoot and looked like he came from his bedroom with dishevled hair and half asleep. ( we did check in very late at almost 2am as we were traveling.) The room had a roach, the furniture was broken, both beds had an unpleasant odor, and the only lock (in this unsafe neighborhood) on the door was the electric key card lock. Never again!

The entire experience was unpleasant. Check in was difficult with the "receptionist" not being able to find the reservation and not communicating, at all, what was going on. Literally just bustling about w/o saying a word. Some other employee/owner breezed in behind their security barrier desk ,chatted a bit, glanced my way, all w/o a word. Gave serious creep vibes. Door to room was "flimsy". Floor in room was dirty. Bathroom had hair and a few dead bugs in various places, including a "hairball" smashed on the back of the door. Luckily I bought one of those extra door locks because around 1:30 am someone tried to enter the room. I didn\'t stay the 2nd night I had booked

This place is horrible. Stay away at all cost. You have people who live there hanging out harassing you wanting to do drugs and hook up hanging outside all hours of the night. The staff doesn’t care about anything. First room they gave us was filthy. Black mold covered the shower curtain. Went back to front desk said something. They got an attitude but gave us another room. This room was just as bad. Filthy. Dirty sheets dirty towels. Mold in the bathroom. We ended up cutting our losses and leaving not staying there. We didn’t feel safe due to the harassment of the guys who lived there and it was just too dirty.

It was quiet even when located on major Ave nobody was noisy in the room friendly staff toward my service dog they did not give me any problems .. what I had with other hotels in the same city

The James river hotel formally the King James is almost historical in Newport News. The hotel has been through VERY ROUGH times of people it's time in business. Overall it has truly stood the TEST OF TIME. The age of the rooms would be a five on my scale. However other than that I will stay again as I have done for over 40 years. God bless

They don't provide hair dryer, the kitchen is nice and remodeled but the hotel does not not provide neither a coffee machine or toaster. The hotel have an ice machine in the alley but they disconnect it some nights. No extra blankets or pillows. Bathroom towels were very thin and cheap. If you like to have a cheap hotel, this is for you. For me I should have expected much more for what I paid for. I requested and was provided a non smoking room however one night the room above ours was occupied and I don't know how but we feel someone was in our room smoking, I waked very congested due to the cigarette smoke in our room. The parking lot was full of junkies at night, every night leaving trash everywhere, definitively don't recommend and will never comeback. For $ 10.00 more a night you can get a lot nicer and better hotels nearby.

Tears in the sheets, and plastic liner in bed. Only 2 pillows, 2 towels, 2 soaps, no shampoo.. very light on the extras. The location is great and the price was right, so that was good

It’s an older motel so don’t expect the Hilton standards. They have cameras all over the place and a sign up that says no visitors so it was a very quiet place. They have a grass courtyard in the middle with a little garden so that was nice to see. There only parking is out front so you have to walk like we did to the back of the hotel. Beds were comfortable. No bugs. There was some damage to the inside doors but again it was old. Kitchen was nice only thing that seems updated. Wouldn’t recommend walking around barefoot in the room as my kids did and their feet were black by bedtime. Would stay here again if I needed something cheap and decent.

The first room I got when I got there was 236 and soon I walked in it was roaches I killed 2 didn't see no more so I started to chill. Then something was crawling on me and it was ants on the bed. I instantly went down and asked for another room because I come there often just to get away but kit to far from my job. But I never experienced no bugs since I been goin there even tho they had a bad reputation about that. But I was switched to a better room and the stay was good from there

Motel was old and outdated. Even tho they claim that rooms were remodeled rooms still had old furniture. The Bed was OK but the pillows were old and flat. The small kitchenette had a full size fridge and microwave and some counter space. Bathroom very small and only the toilet was newer.. All rooms are facing a small courtyard. AC was newer and fully functional. Could have been cleaner.
