I wrote a whole Facebook post about how nasty and unsafe it is. I’ve also requested a full refund. Problems included old food and filth in the kitchen area and a non-resident with a machete let himself in through the unsecured second floor back entrance and relaxed in the furniture that is next to the vending machine.

They could not find my reservation. After 10 minutes, they gave me a room and told me that I could sign the paperwork in the morning. So that was fine. And to be fair, the room itself is large and clean, However… they have taped open the upstairs entry door with many, many layers of scotch tape, so that it cannot be ripped off. When I complained that it wasn’t safe, they told me I can lock my door to my room, and that was enough. So I went to my room. The deadbolt is not aligned with the latch so I could not turn the deadbolt. When I complained that the door wouldn’t lock, they explained to me multiple times that the door is locked and no one can open it from the outside. Neither of these things are acceptable. I was traveling with my adult daughter, so we were two women alone in a room with minimal locks . While the room itself is lovely. I do not recommend this location.

The entire stay was good. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The only minor problem was the towel rack in the bathroom was off the wall but in the process of being repaired. They could improve signage for getting to the hotel as it is behind other businesses making it a minor challenge knowing how to enter the parking lot.

Common areas of hotel was hot. Check in was 3pm at 5pm had to check to see if room was clean. Blood stains on sheets, TV wasn’t working. Took them over hour to look at. Refrigerator/freezer was iced over, poor lighting in room. Door @ back of building was suppose to be secure, we returned at 11:15pm, door was still propped open.

The check in area had a stained, worn sofa for new customers to sit on. The walls in our room has areas that were unpainted down to the drywall. 3 light bulbs above mirror were out. The kleenex holder was dirty, rusty and empty. The window sill was chipped and peeling. In the parking lot on the upper level where we entered to our room, there was a large area of trash and discarded mattresses in open view of everyone who parked in that lot. Biggest mistake I made in staying at this Econolodge hotel!

I had booked this hotel a month in advance upon arrival check in was fine the staff was nice we walked upstairs to our room & took 2 steps inside the room & a baby roach ran across the wall we checked behind the mini fridge as 2 more ran down the wall & in the bathroom a rubber glove was hanging out of the ceiling vent we grabbed out bags & walked back out to go to the front desk & a large roach ran past us in the hall the man at the desk apologized & quickly refunded us they also had a couple crackheads roaming the parking lot zero stars do not recommend.

Room was filthy, toilet obviously not cleaned from last occupancy. Large hole in walls, T-stat cover and towel rack missing, nasty smell in room and adjacent hallway. 4 of 6 light bulbs above vanity burned out, moldy grout joints and shower curtain in hallway, loose change and a dirty sock under side chair from previous occupancy. The continental breakfast was dismal at best, toaster and kitchen were filthy. It was so bad we left a day early and ate the cost of a new hotel room. Do yourself a favor and don’t bother staying here.

The sheets were stained and used, we slept in sleeping bags. Just overall disgusting we booked two nights and left after one night as quickly as possible.. do NOT stay here.

Toilet did not flush. When reported the manager said that all the toilets were broken. Breakfast was sparse, the coffee cold. Rooms were not clean. Hallway smelled of smoke. Dirty towel in the bathroom. Food in the microwave. Tub had a ring. Roaches. We will not go back.

Room was filthy and had what appeared to be blood stains on the bedding. Desk staff was rude and/or unattentive,nthe toilet wasn’t working, walls were stained and damaged, floor had stains, it smelled bad, stains in the shower, leftover food sitting in the fridge in the room when we arrived, just gross. Upon check in, my card was “declined” but I was still charged and I showed the front desk person and what I got was “I don’t have your money”. So I had her run my card again and it went through, so I was double charged, and I tried to talk to the front desk and she didn’t want to hear it. But the real issues I have are with cleanliness and the rudeness of the staff. I’ve used Choice Hotels frequently over the years but this stay at the Maquoketa IA Econolodge was very unpleasant.

The hotel was in the middle of updating flooring. My room had new wood laminate flooring. But the bed was horrible and pillows flat. Sheets were discolored. I would say dry mopping the new floor does not constitute clean. There were dirt stains on the floor. The giant cobweb in the bathroom makes me thinks no one looks up beyond the tub. Shower curtian was disgustingly orange. Refrigerator was not clean. Dead bugs inside. Exterior security doors were non functioning. Be aware of pet fees and there is no housekeeping, you have to ask for it. Would stay here again if it was last motel on the planet.

Stayed here to attend a concert nearby. The hotel Was no-frills, with older fixtures in the room, but clean with good Towels. The sheets were a little scratchy, but the bed was comfortable. My only issue was some rude person in the hallway the next morning, listening to a movie and it Echoing down the hallways.

I’m not sure if it being remodeled now or recently was. There was a lot of trash near the 2nd floor entrance. The room had almost all of the bulbs out above the sink. The room also felt very humid. We tried tuning the air conditioning to a cooler temperature to get it out.

Room was clean but when opened night stand was condoms in one and change in the other. First morning went down to breakfast at 7 was suppose to be ready at 6.30 nothing was ready. Second day was ready. Had a new tv provider so could only have access to less than 6 channels

A 3/4 full bottle of water was left on the desk and a towel hung behind the bathroom door. Otherwise the room was clean and in good shape. WiFi although offered was unusable and low cellular signal from Verizon. Breakfast was passable first morn at 9 am no eggs and 3 sausage links along with cereal, milk, juice and breaks was available. Door close loudly other guests leaving around 6 am both mornings would wake us with the doors slamming closed. I would stay again overall. I do keep low standards for hotels as I pay As little as I can when staying in one.

It was pretty clear that people live at the hotel which usually isn't an issue but it was super noisy during my stay. Lots of slamming doors overnight and through the night. The room and bed were clean. The mattress is probably top ten for comfort. Breakfast is served late like most hotels so I didn't have a chance to try.

Check in process took 35 minutes due to key not working. A few hours later, we received a call- could not hear through the phone very well- the front desk was calling to check our names and room number. We were told we couldn't walk to room from front door, but had to park by side door. Building and business is obviously being worked on.

I called from the room that was given to ask why we didn’t have any hot water and no one picked up the phone. I walked down to the desk and no one was present. Door peep hole was covered with a napkin and tape. The smoke detector was coming off the wall and there was a dry wall area that was not painted.

I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. The smell when you walked in was heavily scented with air fresheners, no doubt to cover up something much more unpleasant. I waited at the front desk for over 30 mins for someone to check me in. When I called to see if anyone was available to help me, they said they had gone off the property to pick up some things and would be back in 5 mins. 15 mins later, someone finally arrived. At that time, i advised that I wanted to cancel my reservation. They told me that because it was after 4, I could not cancel. Even though reason it was after 4 was that I had been left waiting there.

Hard to get into. Directions had us turn onto a street that did not turn into hotel property. Found the hotel after finding another way into the parking lot. Office could not find my reservation even though I paid and had confirmation online. She had me use credit card again and am hoping that I don’t get charged again. Used Expedia due to being easy and simple to use

Room was filthy and had what appeared to be blood stains on the bedding. Desk staff was rude and/or unattentive,nthe toilet wasn’t working, walls were stained and damaged, floor had stains, it smelled bad, stains in the shower, leftover food sitting in the fridge in the room when we arrived, just gross. Upon check in, my card was “declined” but I was still charged and I showed the front desk person and what I got was “I don’t have your money”. So I had her run my card again and it went through, so I was double charged, and I tried to talk to the front desk and she didn’t want to hear it. But the real issues I have are with cleanliness and the rudeness of the staff. I’ve used Choice Hotels frequently over the years but this stay at the Maquoketa IA Econolodge was very unpleasant.

The room we stayed in had a king bed. The bed was nice and comfortable. Sheets were clean and the room smelled clean. The facilities older and shower was very slow to drain. Price was right though and its next to a grocery store and McDonald's. Easy drive to the caves also.

The entire stay was good. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The only minor problem was the towel rack in the bathroom was off the wall but in the process of being repaired. They could improve signage for getting to the hotel as it is behind other businesses making it a minor challenge knowing how to enter the parking lot.

This is a very cheap hotel, so I didn’t expect much. The room itself was actually nicer than I thought it would be—clean enough, comfy bed, mini fridge and microwave (bonus!). The rest of the hotel was…well, exactly what you’d expect at this price: a little run-down, a few things broken, and no breakfast despite the listing saying there was. Also, don’t count on cozy bedding—it’s basically two sheets, so bring your own blanket if you like being warm. The staff were very kind, though rarely at the desk. We only got one towel per person but could probably have asked for more. I didn’t see another guest my entire stay, which was a little eerie but also kind of peaceful. Being pet-friendly, it does have that “pet-friendly smell,” but not unbearable. Big perks: you can walk to McDonald’s, Casey’s, and Dollar Tree (all in the same parking lot), and it’s super close to the Cave State Park. Bottom line: if you want fancy, skip it. But if you’re a hiker who just wants a hot shower, a crash spot, and a cheap rate—you’ll be happy here. I’d definitely stay again when visiting the state park

Room was quite nice. Seemed newly remodeled. Staff was nice and helpful. Breakfast was terrible, worst I’ve ever encountered. I don’t expect a lot in a breakfast in a property like this but even with that I was disappointed. Only eggs and sausage. No orange or apple juice. No pastries. Only rye bread. Only crunchy peanut butter in one communal jar. Overall, the place was quite good for the price.

Nice room, plenty clean, quiet. Not very many people there. Overall very basic, but for the price, that's what you would expect. The free breakfast food was um, sketchy at best. Plan on going next door to McD's for breakfast.

I stayed at this hotel recently, and honestly, it was a rough experience. The room was labeled non-smoking, but it definitely didn’t smell like it — the smoke smell was strong and lingering, like no one had even tried to clean it properly. A 3/4 full bottle of water was left on the desk and a towel hung behind the bathroom door. Otherwise the room was clean and in good shape. WiFi although offered was unusable and low cellular signal from Verizon. Breakfast was passable first morn at 9 am no eggs and 3 sausage links along with cereal, milk, juice and breaks was available. Door close loudly other guests leaving around 6 am both mornings would wake us with the doors slamming closed. I would stay again overall. I do keep low standards for hotels as I pay As little as I can when staying in one.

Who ever sent those pictures of the motel they were a lie it was dark dreary dungeon. Mold in the bathroom no ceiling vent didn’t work. Floors were dirty no maids. The rooms had a smoke smell and are air conditioner was set on 86 when got into room. The air in the crappy lobby wasn’t even on it was very hot. Hallways were hot . We are in are 60’s and had to go up and down stairs to the 3rd floor . The whole room was damp the three days we was there. Would like half my money back for such a farse. Don’t think they are renovating either. Got a text message that if we needed anything tell the front desk but are phone was from 321 and we had 310 and it wasn’t even plugged in. Had dogs in there there was dog hair on the floor . They need to mop the floors not vacuum. We will never stay there again.

The room was spacious and clean, but sparsely decorated and the bathroom sink it have been designed for handicapped accessible. The “breakfast “ was abysmal with one pot of coffee, boxed donuts, cold cereal, and bread/bagels for toasting. No napkins were available. There was a hallway disturbance during the night.

Wasn’t impressed with the room for what we paid. The walls weee yellow from former smoking. Breakfast was cold cereal, bananas and white toast. We ended up going to a local restaurant for breakfast.

We had a refrigerator that was noisy, afraid to unplug as it would have defrosted, kept waking up when it ran, 2 lights burned out above the mirror, the hair dryer didn't work. We stayed 3 nights and requested NO room service and collected extra towels, and yet they gave us an envelope for a tip. Breakfast was disappointing; cereal and donuts, orange juice drink and milk, bananas & apples (ripe). should have had some healthier choices, like yogurt and hardboiled eggs. Coffee was good, none in our rooms. But rooms were cheap and we put up with it. Very animal friendly, lots of barking.
