What a wonderful stay! The room was gorgeous looking out over the abbey and had a great shower. Bed was really comfortable and room was beautifully decorated. Had a great time wandering around the village and along the riverbank before dinner. Bar and restaurant were also beautifully decorated and the food was excellent. Breakfast was so good we couldn’t eat at lunchtime as we were still full. Staff were friendly and welcoming. A perfect stay and we will return! Thank you.

Room was beautifully decorated and very clean. However we stayed in the stable block and there were tables and chairs outside our room for people to have drinks from the bar. This was very annoying as they were right outside our window so we could hear them and we had to draw the curtains for privacy which left us having to turn the lights on during the day. Perhaps adding a light blind might be a solution or move the tables away? Also staff very friendly but waitress forgot our drinks twice

Really easy to find and plenty of free parking. Walking up to the entrance was so beautiful with all the feature lighting and the church in the background. Staff so friendly and the room was just as it was shown in the pictures. Its so big and plenty of different areas to sit and have a drink and the decor was suitable to the history of the building. Food was lovely too. Stayed for one night but could of easily stayed longer.

Absolutely brilliant time. Gorgeous courtyard rooms that were spotless. Lovely touch of having classic fm playing in the room as we arrived. Table and chairs outside the room so we could sit out in the evenings. Nothing to do apart from visiting the abbey but a brilliant spot for visiting Oxford city center. Amy the manager was fantastic and available any time of the day or night to help and advise.

Met up with coleagues for a night before a meeting the following day. High quality rooms, seem most face on to courtyard. I was a bit worried that it might be noisy later in the evening but as the bar made us so welcome we were the last to bed so no noise! Good honest pub food, fine selection of winr and beer - real ales and modern tap beers Cook to order breakfast served in charming restaurant. The village is a collection of delightful buildings including 2 other pubs within a 2 min stroll.

Great for vehicular access to Oxford, and good on site parking. No disturbance from road traffic at night. Nice choice of cooked breakfast, Dean is clearly an experienced chef. Will certainly be booking further stays

The George is a very old building opposite Dorchester (on Thames) Abbey in a lovely little village. The rooms are individually names and themed and well decorated. Really interesting hotel. Good bar, good food. Saskia (manager) and the staff will look after you.

Das Personal ist super freundlich und hilfsbereit. Auch die Lage im Ort direkt an der Hauptstraße ist unproblematisch. Es ist auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert.

First time visit to this fabulous hotel, everything was exceptional about our one night stay. The hotel itself is pristine, very clean and exquisitely decorated with stylish furnishings and fittings. The staff are very friendly, especially Elizabeth, the General Manager. Our room was the Henley Regatta Room, a superior double room. It was more than superior, it was breath-taking. The room had clearly been recently refurbished (as had all rooms I understand), very clean, exceptionally well furnished and decorated. The huge bed was very, very comfortable. The bar was very welcoming, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was also faultless and delicious. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, booking is highly advised, nearly every table was in use. The menu items were traditional pub grub type cuisine, which was satisfactory, but not exceptional. Saying that, I would eat in the restaurant again and I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Really helpful, professional and friendly staff. Great room well equipped and comfortable. I slept well. I had room with beamed ceilings which are notoriously difficult to keep clean and cobweb free, but the house keeping did a great job! Lots of parking with no issues. Great location for exploring south Oxfordshire' Will stay again! Thank you

Even the smallest room was 'Luxe'. Absolutely everything was beautiful, food was delicious and staff were friendly and helpful. Everywhere was spotless and the finer little details down to the duck in the bathtub was charming. I can't wit to go back.

Hotel magnifique dans un village très mignon. La chambre est très confortable, bien que l’isolation phonique laisse à désirer. Les produits d’hygiène sentent très bon et sont de bonne qualité. Le petit-déjeuner est délicieux.

Very pleasant stay, the room we stayed in was part of a refurbished stable block. Beautifully decorated room with en-suite bathroom, very nice to have a bath included as so many hotels are removing baths from their properties. Very quiet location with parking on site.

Very pleasant staff and comfortable room although floor room uneven due to age of building. Pleasant walks along Thames Path and watching boats arrive at ‘Days Lock’. A varied menu and a happy bar atmosphere.

After a stressful 5-hour journey in the dark, opening the door to The Oak Room at The George felt like stepping into heaven. Every detail was sheer perfection. Every inch of the suite has a special touch. From the plush couch in the relaxing area to the bedside history book that added a thoughtful local element. The high ceilings lent a sense of grandeur, while the room's warm, old-school English charm made it feel incredibly cosy. Despite its size, it was perfectly heated, and I felt utterly cocooned in luxury. The canopy bed was the comfortable, making me feel like a princess. Normally, I'd opt for the walk-in shower, but with a stunning bathtub raised on a platform in the centre of the room how could I resist? The staff were exceptional; warm, friendly, and attentive, with lovely personal touches like a handwritten note from housekeeping. And the food? Divine. Arriving late, I treated myself to a mouth watering bread and butter pudding in my room - the perfect sweet ending to a long day. I'm a particular about breakfast, and my eggs were spot on. As someone who regularly travels for business, I can confidently say I've found a little slice of heaven in The George Hotel. This isn't just a stopover anymore - it's my go-to. If you're looking for comfort, charm, and ta little indulgence, make The George yours too.

Great stay as always, I had a lovely room (101) I dined in the restaurant and had a lovely Sunday roast. The staff are friendly and I'd like to single out Kirsty. I had a problem sleeping and once I was awake, I heard music coming from downstairs. Once I heard it, I couldn't unhear it so to speak. I was awake for well over an hour from 03:45 to 05:00. That won't put me off staying again.

Lovely historical hotel opposite Dorchester Abbey. Recent refurb to a high standard. Bizarre how Google calls this a 2* hotel. I would say pushing 4*. Our room 204 had view of Abbey out the front window and the little ‘secret garden’ out the back. Staff all very efficient given the no. of guests. Good food and service at both dinner and breakfast. Dorchester is beautiful- so many thatched cottages down every side street and tons of wisteria!

Very good stay. Laura on front desk was very helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Would definitely return and highly recommend to others. The only negative was the soundproofing in bedroom, we could hear everything from next door room.

What a stunning place to stay. The rooms are amazing. Clean, spacious and have everything you need. We arrived and were warmly welcomed by Gordon, the manager. He checked us in and gave us all the information we required for our stay. We then went into the bar area, where we had lunch and drinks. The food is of a good standard but is your typical pub type food menu. We had lunch then went to our room. As the pictures show, the rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated. They might not be to everyone's taste but the room was spotlessly clean. There are tea and coffee facilities, including coffee pod machine, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, fan, books, games. However, our only let down was a barman called Kai. At the bar waiting to be served, we got a flick of the head, as if to say "what can i get you" Not good Kai! and maybe try washing your hands when you cough and sneeze into them. He also managed to really mess up our drinks order at our evening meal. We would have spent the evening in the bar but didn't because of this. Such a shame after the exceptional service from Gordon, which continued at Breakfast. Breakfast-Amazing! What a selection. A continental buffet with juices, fresh fruits, croissants, cereals, yogurts. Then served from a great menu of hot breakfast dishes. We opted for Full English. Fantastic place Gordon. Maybe certain staff members could follow your example. Definitely on the return list.
What a stunning place to stay. The rooms are amazing. Clean, spacious and have everything you need. We arrived and were warmly welcomed by Gordon, the manager. He checked us in and gave us all the information we required for our stay. We then went into the bar area, where we had lunch and drinks. The food is of a good standard but is your typical pub type food menu. We had lunch then went to our room. As the pictures show, the rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated. They might not be to everyone's taste but the room was spotlessly clean. There are tea and coffee facilities, including coffee pod machine, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, fan, books, games. However, our only let down was a barman called Kai. At the bar waiting to be served, we got a flick of the head, as if to say "what can i get you" Not good Kai! and maybe try washing your hands when you cough and sneeze into them. He also managed to really mess up our drinks order at our evening meal. We would have spent the evening in the bar but didn't because of this. Such a shame after the exceptional service from Gordon, which continued at Breakfast. Breakfast-Amazing! What a selection. A continental buffet with juices, fresh fruits, croissants, cereals, yogurts. Then served from a great menu of hot breakfast dishes. We opted for Full English. Fantastic place Gordon. Maybe certain staff members could follow your example. Definitely on the return list.

We had great stay at The George Hotel! We went to the wrong location, first. So make sure you book and arrive at the right one:) The room was spacious, and lovely. The staff were friendly. The onsite restaurant was delicious. So very happy with our stay.

Lovely coaching inn - beautiful bedroom and clean, modern bathroom. Some nice touches in the room, luxury toiletries. Had dinner in the restaurant, great service from Kirsty - food was excellent and plentiful. Breakfast was extensive and very tasty. Would recommend and would love to return one day

We brought my 91 year old mother-in-law for a short break. They insured that her room was an easy access room which we did request on the original booking. The staff were excellent and very helpful. Another great short stay. Thank you!

My review may not seem too favourable but I'm thinking this was a one off because I stayed here last month and it was a much better experience. I have also booked to stay here again next month. The staff were brilliant but run off their feet because there were only three serving and the bar and restaurant were busy. It was the hotels first birthday so perhaps that was the reason for being busy / staff shortage. To start with, I had to wait 10 minutes to check in. I was then given the wrong room key and sent to a room on the street. I knew it wasn't right and was then given the right key. Restaurant service was stretched but the waitresses deserve a medal for running round like the proverbial blue 'ar' flies and trying to fulfill the demand. Annoying - there was a guy in the bar tormenting his dog with a balloon which made it bark loudly. Judging by the faces of the customers, only he thought this was funny. The correct bedroom was lovely and the hotel is great, that is why I chose to come here.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful village. Staff friendly, service good, dinner menu was varied and food excellent. We had a leak in our shower, the staff dealt with it well and we were compensated for the inconvenience. Would recommend and stay again

Really easy to find and plenty of free parking. Walking up to the entrance was so beautiful with all the feature lighting and the church in the background. Staff so friendly and the room was just as it was shown in the pictures. Its so big and plenty of different areas to sit and have a drink and the decor was suitable to the history of the building. Food was lovely too. Stayed for one night but could of easily stayed longer.

The George is a very attractive building in a beautiful , peaceful village. There are a number of picturesque places to visit in the area and many riverside walks. A delightful place to visit.

Nice hotel. Originally an old coaching inn.Helpful and friendly staff. Food was good and reasonable selection. The room was clean and comfortable. Only downside was the public transport. Long walk for bus into Oxford which is not a car friendly city. Park and ride an option.We bussed in but got a taxi back for £30 Ish. Despite this we would recommend.

Lovely historical hotel opposite Dorchester Abbey. Recent refurb to a high standard. Bizarre how Google calls this a 2* hotel. I would say pushing 4*. Our room 204 had view of Abbey out the front window and the little ‘secret garden’ out the back. Staff all very efficient given the no. of guests. Good food and service at both dinner and breakfast. Dorchester is beautiful- so many thatched cottages down every side street and tons of wisteria!

Excellent competitively priced hotel, only 15 mins from Oxford. Ideal for business trips. Plenty of easy parking, and Dorchester on Thames is a quiet little town with very little traffic noise after rush hour.

What a wonderful stay! The room was gorgeous looking out over the abbey and had a great shower. Bed was really comfortable and room was beautifully decorated. Had a great time wandering around the village and along the riverbank before dinner. Bar and restaurant were also beautifully decorated and the food was excellent. Breakfast was so good we couldn’t eat at lunchtime as we were still full. Staff were friendly and welcoming. A perfect stay and we will return! Thank you.

Absolutely fantastic rooms since the refurbishment. Staff are very friendly. I've been visiting for ten years due to work close by. Given the refurbishment, money spent the food does not do the place justice. Very standard menu with little or no extra specials.

Very pleasant stay. Excellent dinner and bar, but a pity the open fires were not burning, although the ambient heating was fine but one needs open fires in an old building.

First time visit to this fabulous hotel, everything was exceptional about our one night stay. The hotel itself is pristine, very clean and exquisitely decorated with stylish furnishings and fittings. The staff are very friendly, especially Elizabeth, the General Manager. Our room was the Henley Regatta Room, a superior double room. It was more than superior, it was breath-taking. The room had clearly been recently refurbished (as had all rooms I understand), very clean, exceptionally well furnished and decorated. The huge bed was very, very comfortable. The bar was very welcoming, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was also faultless and delicious. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, booking is highly advised, nearly every table was in use. The menu items were traditional pub grub type cuisine, which was satisfactory, but not exceptional. Saying that, I would eat in the restaurant again and I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Only problem this time was I arrived at 7pm on a Sunday and was told I was too late to eat in the restaurant so they put me in the bar because 'they were setting up for breakfast'. Why advertise that you're open till 8? I had the roast dinner which wasn't as good as previously and wasn't hot. Ironically, I had finished my meal and there were still people eating in the dining room. Will I stay again? Yes.

A wonderful weekend break. Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. The food was excellent - being both vegan and gluten free, we are tricky customers but the staff accommodated us brilliantly. The room was lovely and the parking safe and convenient. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and professional. I would heartily recommend 'The George Hotel'.

Had a wonderful 1 night stay, shame we couldn’t stay longer. Room was gorgeous, great decor, cleanliness and amenities - including some great little touches. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Lovely setting and v good parking too. A big thankyou.

Sehr schönes altes Hotel mit viel Geschichte. Die Zimmer sind auf dem Hof verteilt und jedes hat einen separaten Eingang. Zimmer sind hell und sauber. Alles was man braucht findet man auf dem Zimmer. Das Frühstück findet im Haupthaus statt und ist typisch Englisch. Es reicht für den Start in den Tag. Das Personal könnte etwas mehr auf die Gäste eingehen aber sonst alles super
