It is a great self service location. It has a nice outdoor game area ( bocce ball, corn hole and a few fire pits) rooms are nice w/ small fridge. Microwave, water and coffee condiments are in a little room with a code. Nothing luxurious, but nice enough.

The listing said there was a pool, but that was misleading. There is no pool on-site—only ‘access to a pool’ at a completely different property across town. This felt like false advertising and was very disappointing. The room itself was clean and comfortable, which was the one positive aspect.

The shampoo, conditioner, and soaps were a nice touch; none of that cheap quality off brand stuff you get in some hotels. The tiles in the bathroom were really nice, along with some other modern touches like a fridge with a glass door. The complimentary water was greatly appreciated! There's an outdoor area to enjoy, with fire pit and lounging area, and games like corn hole. Thank you for making our stay comfortable! ☺️

Love, love, love the concept! A motel updated for the 21st century, and it works beautifully and is remarkably inexpensive. The rooms are simple and small, but tastefully furnished. The bath is modern and super clean. There are outdoor games, picnic tables, and gas fires, plus access to the sister hotel’s swimming pool, all in great condition. For the price simply unbeatable!

There is no one on-site. However, they were very responsive by text. The room was very clean and comfortable and the shower was good. The outdoor areas were great for eating and drinking coffee. Good value for money, we'll definitely stay again if we return to the area.

We really enjoyed our stay, quietness, clean rooms & beds were very comfortable. It was a very small room, but worked. Had the amenities we needed. Only thing we didn’t like was the on & off noise of the ac unit.

Although I’m not used to staying in hotels without a flat sheet, I was assured that the duvet is washed after every guest, which put me at ease. The location, nestled between two motels, initially made me a bit skeptical, but it turned out to be very quiet. My only complaint was a towel that had a stain on it—we weren’t sure if it was just a stain or if it hadn’t been cleaned properly.

This is my 3rd stay at the Hotel Hygge and I would stay again. It is sparkling clean and comfy. The bed and bedding are clean, bright, and soft. It is a reliable place to stay and I appreciate that.

It’s all around perfect. Super cute, clean & has everything you need. I will stay here every time I’m needing a place to stay in the area.Just a heads up, the walls are thin, the shower is lacking in pressure and if you were on the bigger side the shower would be too small. Also the a/c is louder than it needs to be but still all around top notch!

Don’t do it! Room is tiny and walls are so thin you can hear EVERYTHING from the other room next door. Thank goodness they had a wall heater that is so loud it drowns out the noise, but wind will blow on you all night. Make sure to bring your own shampoo, conditioner and soap unless you like peppermint shampoo, cilantro conditioner and strong man smell soap.

In many ways I really liked this property but the walls were paper thin. I could hear our neighbors snoring. The shower was nice but it took about 5 minutes to get any hot water. The place itself is really nice though.

Room was clean, but pretty small. There was only one chair for 2 people. It would be nice to have a few hooks on the wall to hang clothes/items due to no storage. Shower had low water pressure. AC/heat unit was extremely loud. Someone opened door via code on check out day whike we were in bed. I’m thinking it was cleaning crew.

Stay was fine and entry instructions all good. Clean room. But, very small. No room to put anything really. Barely fit a laptop onto the small table. No electrical outlets by the bed which I found odd. Bed was ok (queen size), but given small space in the room, it would be difficult for 2 people.

Drove 3.5 hours for business trip and tried to shower in the morning, but hardly any water would come out of the shower head. Very frustrating and had to leave for work. I did try to inform the hotel so that they can hopefully fix the shower situation before the next guest arrives. Otherwise, the room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. I would try it again because this was just bad luck.

Supplying them over the phone to someone I've never met did not seem secure to me. The only other option was email, even less secure. The place itself is OK, quirky, different, comfy bed, good shower and superb toiletries. The digital door locks were annoying, you close the door behind you and it locks automatically - after a while - meaning that, when leaving for the evening, you need to close the door and stand around like a lemon, waiting for the auto-lock to kick in. But these are minor faults, we enjoyed our stay overall, apart from the absence of staff.

Worth the price. Check in is a bit of a pain if you’ve booked with Expedia. Your email isn’t shared by Expedia to the hotel (which I totally get) and the only way to check in is to be emailed a registration card - there is no staff on site. You must answer your phone when they call to give them your email. It took me 4 return calls to get ahold of them to complete registration. That being said, the room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. Perfect for my needs which was just a rest stop on the way elsewhere.

The area around the hotel is nice and quiet. However, we are not fans of no having contact with employees. We asked for our trash to be taking out since they do not offer daily housekeeping service, but nobody came as they told us. We also came on the busiest time of the year and pay more than we should have. For $20 dlls more a night I will recomend you to stay somewhere else.

This motel has capitalized on the Scandinavianisms in the area, (and I'm Scandinavian, so I do recognize it!) including having guests do a self-check in. I understand the idea is to save on staff and keep costs down, it's just not very organized. I booked my room through Expedia, where I got a notification that I would receive a check-in code by email 24 hours before my check-in time. I didn't. I got to the motel at 2:45 pm, check in was at 3. There was no reception area at the motel, no staff anywhere. In the parking lot, there was a sign telling guests to visit to a specific website to check in. I tried that. It was a parked domain. I tried calling the only phone number I had received, it kept ringing and ringing, no one was picking up. I emailed, I texted. Kinda started to worry that somehow my reservation hadn't gone through, and I would have to find somewhere else to stay. Then on my third try, I got through on the phone, and they said they had just then emailed the entry codes, right at 3 pm. I get that they don't want anyone trying to check in early, it's just that the process is very confusing, and they need to update their info on Expedia as well as in their own parking lot. Other than that, my room is clean, spacious, and well worth the price.

My wife and I were celebrating our 18 yr wedding anniversary and wanted to stay someplace close to Solvang. The location of your hotel was perfect. The room was cozy and clean. The bed was comfortable. We really had no issues other than we needed an iron for our clothes and no iron was provided, even after we called the help number, requesting one. But everything still worked out and we had a really nice stay.

This hotel is an excellent bargain. The rooms are clean and the hotel is one level so there is no one above or below. I saw some reviews mention that the location is not so good. I thought the location was great. Only 3 miles from Solvang in a good nieghborhood close to restaurants and the 101 freeway. Check-in is a little unconventional, but they keep in touch via cell phone to assure everything is OK with your stay. Highly recommended!

It is a great self service location. It has a nice outdoor game area ( bocce ball, corn hole and a few fire pits) rooms are nice w/ small fridge. Microwave, water and coffee condiments are in a little room with a code. Nothing luxurious, but nice enough.

Hygge has solved the hotel personnel cost problem. They've eliminated ANYONE on site. In order to get resolution for any problem or to enjoy any on-site amenities (pool, workout room, morning coffee, etc.) you must go half a mile away to their "sister" property, i.e., drive to it. And the rooms (although very clean) remind one of 1970s Hotel 6. Would never book again or recommend to anyone.

Great stay! Was visiting Solvang, Chumas casino, and then Santa Barbara on the way out and it was not bad at all. Close by AJ Spurs which I highly suggest stopping for dinner. I absolutely loved the rooms and would definitely stay again. I love the no contact and they made it super easy with the email to check in. I received an email about my stay and they even set out a bag of goodies for breakfast by the door. Room's are super nice they provide shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, lotion, and even a game in the room. The Ostrich farm nearby is fun and I also suggest stopping by. Overall great stay.

Cute little Motel! This a great place to enjoy a quiet night. I also has fire pits and a Bocce Ball area. In the morning they will drop off a bag filled with breakfast goodies. Great Place.

The experience itself was great but please note that this is self-check in only, code for door. No front office. Clean beautiful room & bathroom. Small but smart use of space typical of the Scandinavian style (felt like I in an IKEA). Beautiful grounds/amenities (we loved the fire pits!) and the central room w/microwave, extra towels and water, also accessible by a code, was a nice touch. The registration/check in process however was a bit arduous and I had to call 3 times in total. This process should be done through a secured portal or their website, especially since the rest of the process is streamlined and contactless. Giving my email address and credit card info over the phone and responding to en email that "I agree to terms and conditions" was a bit antiquated and I was very busy traveling and had to give my CC # twice and also call back to say that my room code had not been sent to me yet which was after check in time. Again, great motel and an affordable alternative to staying in Solvang or Los Olivos. Only an 8 min drive to both. The check in/registration process just needs to match this. I will stay here again should the opportunity rise.

Besides that, no breakfast, too low sink, extremely noisy air conditioning that I had to shut down, restroom sliding door is very thin and retract open, plastic like swelling pop noises every hour like little explosions. Overall, definitely not worth the cost.

This is not a luxurious hotel but has everything you need for a quick trip to Buellton. The prices are super reasonable, and it's centrally located. The rooms are remodeled, nice, comfortable and CLEAN. It's self-service, but there is staff on-site that are happy to help, and you can call them if you need anything.

Great little hotel. Our room and the entire premises was very clean. Parking was easy. Check-in and check-out were done online and instructions were clear and given through email. We'll definitely be back for our quick getaways to the Central Coast.

I have used the non-human checking in and out method in the past but this was the worst I've encountered. You 'check-in' by responding to an email which sends you a text that, if you click on it, sends you to a website, which, of course, refers you to the email that was sent. So, you inevitably have to call someone (who is not on property) so they can resend you the email and the fun starts all over again (and again, and again). This held true for check out as well. The rooms are small but quite clean. The bed was lumpy and crowned in the middle as if the mattress had recently been stuffed. We had two rooms which was fortunate as one of the accommodations had a blocked up toilet and no water in the shower. So four people had to use one the toilet and shower in the operational room. This issue was 'called in' at 4pm as there is no one on site to check in or assist in any way. We were told someone would be out to repair at 9am the next day (15 hours later). Needless to say no one came at 9am. We found a 'manager' at 9:30 who called a plumber and by 11am (right at checkout) someone was there to fix the problem. I couldn't possible recommend this place for the price.
