The hotel was very unique. We had help with bringing our bags to the room and making sure the tv worked. They have a very nice common area where they have a variety of breakfast foods we could use. There were games, puzzles, books, and a pool table we could use. Each room was unique, ours had a whirlpool bath, a full kitchen and a separate bedroom.

Very small hotel, rooms were up stairs. Very limited choices in Antonito but this worked well for our Steam Train plans. The rooms were above the old bank and were formally a brothel to suppler the train workers according to the pizza shop guy. We would stay there again but there are some limitations

The Steam Train is a funky old place--1911 vintage building rooms with old furniture. Our room had a nice bathroom with a great big old claw foot tub. Perfectly fine place to stay on a budget. Their breakfast room has a generous supply of food in general, and a nice pool table. Access is not good if you have mobility problems, as you must climb a steep outdoor stairway to get to the rooms. We (71 yrs old) had no problem. If you aren't looking for luxury and like funky, you will enjou your stay.

Perfect location. Everything was in walking distance. Fun funky place with a lot of character. Wasn’t a fan of the steps but the deck was great. This wonderful hotel is unique and historic. Built in 1911 the second floor was converted to a hotel. To appreciate its charm you should understand there won’t be an elevator and rooms will vary in size and layout. There won’t be a lobby but there is a door off the side street with a number to call. Don’t worry, they are quick to come and incredibly friendly and eager to accommodate. The bed was very comfortable and at the end of the hall is a game room with a pool table. This is where you can get breakfast at anytime. Again, this is a historic building so don’t expect the breakfast buffet found in chain hotels. Antiques fill the decor with charm in the hall and rooms. Across the street are two Mexican restaurants that offer affordable and delicious meals. You will be only a block away from the house where Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed and there’s a fantastic excursion train that leaves from town. I will be back for a longer stay next time.

It was quaint, but only 8 rooms, all on the 2nd floor with no elevator so we needed to climb relatively steep stairs outside to get to the 2nd floor. If anyone is expecting a typicaly motel room , this does not fit the bill.

This hotel is in a small town that my parents grew up in. I did not expect much, because I know the town. The owners have a good idea to keep the old building original, but they still have a lot of work to do to update for customers use. Besides the making of the beds, i don't think the room was cleaned. The owners were nice but should probably take a class or two on how to run a hotel. Would i stay again? Most likely. It's better than the only other place in town. PS the room was big and so was the bathroom that gets a thumbs up.

The owners here are very kind and helpful, the place itself is very charming. Temperature wise it gets pretty uncomfortable and muggy. I did find trash (an empty water bottle) under the bed from a previous stay - just feels like something you’d notice if housekeeping actually looked under there when cleaning between stays. Also very obvious black moldy substance inside the mini-fridge in room 6 that’s clearly been there a while.

We had a king size bed. There was barely room to walk around the bed. If I wanted to get into the bathroom, my wife would have to move away from the bed so I could get past to the bathroom. Nowhere to put things when at the bathroom sink, no shelf. Water leaked all around the shower door. We used the shower mat to mop up the floor, then let it drip dry in the shower. We paid for 2 nights. We left without even requesting any kind of refund after the 1st night. The top of the fridge was dirty, which would have been a VERY easy wipe to clean. This made me wonder about just how clean this place was. I had nightmares about what we would be taking home with us from here. It wasn't what I expected for a historical hotel. There is no common door into the hotel, like most facilities of this nature. We went to the restaurant below and asked where the door to the hotel was. The waiter called the hotel owner to let them know we were there. You use this method, or you call the hotel number, and they come to meet you and take you to your room. The window air conditioner was VERY noisy. We finally turned it off and opened a window after the sun went down.

When we arrived we had to call a number on the door of the restaurant in order to get the manager. He did show up quickly. This is not handicap accessible. The area around the hotel was a bit shady. We quickly realized there was no one on the street. Antonito is like a ghost town. The room was small for a king bed. The bed was comfortable and a bit noisy the night we stayed. The restaurant smells from the first floor permeated the room. If you’re staying there to ride the Cumbre Toltec railroad it is a killer location. Won’t stay there again. We’ll drive the 40 min back to Alamosa.

I was very disappointed with my stay at the Steam Train Hotel. The room and location were great, but the room had a broken heating system that could no be turned off. The room was very hot and the manager, Paul said that there was a valve in the heating system that was broken and could not be turned off. I had to put a fan by the window to cool the room. I asked if there was another room and he said there was, but I would have to move again. there was no offer of any compensation for the discomfort in a very hot room. If the knew that the heating was broken, why was the room listed as available.

Overall the stay was good. The room was clean and the free breakfast provided by the shop owner was a nice surprise. I think the room could use a little touching up. The door lock didn’t work properly and there was no air conditioning, so the room was kinda hot. We noticed some odd things about the room also. There was a large opening above the bathroom that was kind of weird. There was an electrical junction box that did not have a cover and the wires inside were exposed. The shower head was mounted way too low. Anyone over 5 feet tall will have to kneel down to take a shower. There is just way too much furniture in the room and it is awkwardly arranged. There is a door in the room that has a “restricted” sign on it and a code lock. The decor is disconnected from the name of the hotel, it’s kind of random. I think the hotel should have a sign hung somewhere directing guests to where to check in and I think they should consider offering shuttle rides to and from the train. Overall we were happy with our stay. Paul was very nice and made sure he showed us everything pertinent. 2 minor complaints...the air conditioner was noisy, and the shower head, which is huge! And had plenty of water pressure, did not work for my height ( 5'). Like i said...minor

We had booked a tour on the nearby Cumbres train and since it was arriving late (11:00 pm) we chose this hotel out of the other three available. The rooms were quaint and the hallways felt like home! We had a king size bed. There was barely room to walk around the bed. If I wanted to get into the bathroom, my wife would have to move away from the bed so I could get past to the bathroom. Nowhere to put things when at the bathroom sink, no shelf. Water leaked all around the shower door. We used the shower mat to mop up the floor, then let it drip dry in the shower. We paid for 2 nights. We left without even requesting any kind of refund after the 1st night. The top of the fridge was dirty, which would have been a VERY easy wipe to clean. This made me wonder about just how clean this place was. I had nightmares about what we would be taking home with us from here. It wasn't what I expected for a historical hotel. There is no common door into the hotel, like most facilities of this nature. We went to the restaurant below and asked where the door to the hotel was. The waiter called the hotel owner to let them know we were there. You use this method, or you call the hotel number, and they come to meet you and take you to your room. Stayed here in preparation to taking the Cumbres & Toltec the next day. We were surprised that the lobby & restaurant were closed and locked. A note was placed on one of the locked doors sating how to "check-In" by calling a local number. As I do not have a cellular telephone, this would have been very difficult to accomplish. Seemingly by chance someone spotted us and stated that that someone would be along soon to let us in and complete the check in process. We did not have to wait long. It would have been a bit better if we had known what to expect upon arrival. Overall our stay was OK and our accommodations were very comfortable. We had hoped for a more fulfilling breakfast offering from the 'on-site' restaurant instead of the somewhat lighter cold cereal &/or instant oatmeal offered.

This is not your steel and plastic holiday inn. It is a step back in time! It is clean, quaint, western inn. Paul, the owner, is a native Antonnian, is very nice, doing whatever he can to make tor stay enjoyable. A nice, small deck area is available. Paul will make a recommendation about restaurants. I would definitely stay there again!!

Rooms have some character with some unique decorations. Staff on check-in very friendly and brought my suitcase up the stairs. They need to work on amenities. Had a single small bar of soap (size ok, as know there's lots of waste with short stays) but had to transport from sink to/from shower. The shampoo need work. Just left one packet for a two-night stay that had no maid service (I'm OK with no maid service, again as there's lots of waste). But just one pack of shampoo and in a package that can't be opened without using a sharp object. People coming here ride the train and expect might get dirty. So let's leave enough supplies for the whole trip - and change the shampoo packaging. Now I did call down and they did promptly bring additional supplies. I just think I shouldn't have had to ask. They also need more attention to the breakfast offerings. The first morning I had the last Pop Tar (and threw out 2 empty boxes). Nothing brought for the next day. And on the second day, OJ was down to a measly 6 oz left. Need more attention in keeping the breakfast supplies stocked.

CONS: (1) Windows need to be open to let in air. We had a corner room next to a patio and had to smell marijuana from someone smoking outside. (2) The information in the room indicated that we could call for assistance between 6 am and 9 pm. However, when I called several times at 7 am to report that there was no milk for cereal, all I got was an answering machine that said that the office opened at 8 am. So, no milk for cereal. The next time we come down for the train, we will stay in Alamosa.

The restaurant smells from the first floor permeated the room. If you’re staying there to ride the Cumbre Toltec railroad it is a killer location. Won’t stay there again. We’ll drive the 40 min back to Alamosa.

This wonderful hotel is unique and historic. Built in 1911 the second floor was converted to a hotel. To appreciate its charm you should understand there won’t be an elevator and rooms will vary in size and layout. There won’t be a lobby but there is a door off the side street with a number to call. Don’t worry, they are quick to come and incredibly friendly and eager to accommodate. The bed was very comfortable and at the end of the hall is a game room with a pool table. This is where you can get breakfast at anytime. Again, this is a historic building so don’t expect the breakfast buffet found in chain hotels. Antiques fill the decor with charm in the hall and rooms. Across the street are two Mexican restaurants that offer affordable and delicious meals. You will be only a block away from the house where Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed and there’s a fantastic excursion train that leaves from town. This is a unique motel. I like supporting an individual business.Expedia stated that thie price included breakfast, but it was off season so there wasnt any. For the price, i was disappointed. It should state that. We were tired and arrived at 10:30pm, so we had to call the # on the door, but the guy came immediately! He was very courteous. Call ahead to have room warmed up for you and if youre going to arrive late. I would recommend staying here, just call and talk to someone. I

Antiques fill the decor with charm in the hall and rooms. Across the street are two Mexican restaurants that offer affordable and delicious meals. You will be only a block away from the house where Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed and there’s a fantastic excursion train that leaves from town. I will be back for a longer stay next time.

There was pros and cons with this property. PROS: (1) When checking in, Paul was most helpful and nice. (2) We learned from another guest who knows the area that this is the best place to stay. (3) It is a 5-minute drive to get to the Cumbres & Toltec railroad station. (4) Some nice antiques on the upper floor. (5) There is a nice selection of breakfast foods including items like a frozen burrito that could be microwaved. There is a coffee pot that customers use to make their own coffee. CONS: (1) Windows need to be open to let in air. We had a corner room next to a patio and had to smell marijuana from someone smoking outside. (2) The information in the room indicated that we could call for assistance between 6 am and 9 pm. However, when I called several times at 7 am to report that there was no milk for cereal, all I got was an answering machine that said that the office opened at 8 am. So, no milk for cereal. The next time we come down for the train, we will stay in Alamosa.

Beds were fine but the electrify didn’t work in the bathroom. The communication was a problem because there was no place to check in. We went into the restaurant and they called someone to meet us. The breakfast was a little game room with one table and pop tarts. We made our own coffee. There aren’t a lot of options in town but this one needs updating.

The location, decor and welcome were great! We were there on a hot weekend and the poor little air conditioner just couldn't cut it. The hotel is old, and that fits the feel we were going for. The biggest this was that breakfast was not as advertised. It said made to order, really there were four pre-made options that they would warm up for you and they were very small portions.

This is a quaint restored hotel built in 1911 that tries to maintain the ambiance of a 1911 railroad town. Furnished with period furnishings wherever possible while providing in room bath/shower facilities certainly not included in rooms in 1911. Everything clean and neat with a "rec room" that has multiple free offerings of snack and breakfast items. As we were there to ride the historic Cumbres & Toltec Narrow Guage Railroad our stay at this historic hotel completed the historic trip.

Interesting stay. Definitely quirky! Only complaint was older mattress, and not really any breakfast. Little Debbie cakes, old bananas and one kind of yogurt. We had to make our own coffee in the morning. Offered a very expensive breakfast downstairs. Small bathroom. It was quiet and pleasant for the most part.
