Mermaid Manor

My kids and I needed a beach home that would accommodate our two senior Siberian Huskies, as well as a house with a pool that was in close proximity to the beach. This checked all of those boxes. The home was very clean and spacious. This property is also perfect for pets that want to stretch their legs in the fenced in yard as well. The owners also did a great job of providing items such as a dog mat for water and food bowls, as well as other neat odds and ends. We will definitely book again and had an absolute blast!

Got there right at 4:00…someone from the management company got there at the same time for a quick walk-thru (seemed rushed, like they were unprepared). We ended up making the most of our stay, but we had issues with cleanliness and poor communication all week. Floors were filthy…don’t look at your feet if you’re barefoot for a few minutes! There was a permanent blood stain on the powder room toilet seat. The front and back door glass windows were filthy (probably slobber that was never cleaned from the previous guest’s dog.) There is a grill on properly that had issues and was obviously never checked…there was old, dead food bits on a grill sheet still on the grill. The grill did not light and all knobs spun freely. We ended up getting a loaner grill but it took two days from my first reach out. Used the VRBO app to try to communicate but no one ever responded to messages. I’ve used VRBO plenty of times with success, but this was the first time I’ve ever rented a property maintained by a management company rather than a private owner and I think that was the difference. Oak Island Accommodations obviously doesn’t put the same love and care into their properties than a private owner would.
