Comfort Inn & Suites Michigan City South

It started with calling the hotel to make sure we can have a crib set aside and to have a late checkout, man said crib would be set aside and noted that we would have late checkout for noon. Upon checking in, we were told we will not have a crib. When entering room, door would not lock or close. TV was not working either. Front desk changed rooms for us. Toilet was clogged, and bathroom door would open when closed. Vending machines and elevator was out of order. Pool was not filled completely and water was freezing cold. Staff was completely rude when we were asking questions. On checkout day, we had staff trying to walk into the room at 11. I explained to the staff and showed them the call log stating I spoke with an employee about our late checkout. It seems like when our room was moved they did not update the notes. At 11:30 we were being kicked out being threatened to be charged for another day. I have never felt more disrespected, we were traveling with our two year old child and we’re planning to leave at 12:00 as we were told over the phone. Will definitely not stay at this location again.

The exterior of the building was super run down and not maintained. The outside door to the pool did not lock so anyone could walk right in. Our bathroom was dirty and we had no hot water in the shower. It was ok for a one night stay but wouldn’t go back in the future.

After reading other reviews, our stay and room were surprisingly pleasant. Check in went quickly, both rooms we stayed in were nice and clean. Breakfast was nice and food looked good. Pool area and pool were clean. Gym was the same way. Would stay another night if we were back there

Nothing like pictures on line. Pool was 4 inches below skimmer. Check in on line said 3pm sign at desk said 4:30pm nobody around, walked around to find someone and left

The staff were super friendly and accommodating. I was slightly disappointed on how run down this hotel was. The room was clean enough but the side door to outside security lock was broken. The landscaping overgrown and trash everywhere outside. The hotel seems to be connected to another in same way. That has broken windows, an overgrown outdoor lounge area. Boarded up windows. Abandoned shopping carts. Random flipped over chairs… I want to say again, while super disappointed on the condition of the hotel itself, the staff was very nice!

Doom and gloomy property. Not worth the amount of $$ spent. Battery was missing from fire alarm. Room had cobwebs and dust. The smell of marijuana at night and first thing in the morning. Card reader at side door was not working and door was just left unlocked so felt unsafe.

I didn’t like that it was so cold in the halls and in the pool room!!! And that the pool was closed most of our stay which was one of the reasons we got a room so the kids could swim!!!

Looks nice on the outside but the place needs some care. A gentleman got stuck on the elevator. Staff was great, and breakfast was good.

I have pictures would like corp to see. Weeds 3-4 ft high outside in a courtyard. Locks to door end of hall,were completely gone door held open by rock, no key card it had been removed.Room door was so swollen from. humidity,you could almost feel like you were pulling your shoulder out.Spider webs in all corners,floor was dirty,my feey were black when I got in shower.Coffeepot had white dust in it I refused to use,like it was there during re model. Big white streak of paint around 8 in on wall ,it was a brown wall!

Property is ran very poorly. Grass and weeds overrun the outside. Garbage, finger prints, dirty mats with tags still on them is what greets you after the weeds and over grown bushes . The lobby had dirty lemon water container, box of granola bars on an empty water fridge, finger prints and smudges counter … The room seemed to be “clean” if you don’t count the filthy walls, cracked caulk in tub and the toilet paper just left on top the broken dispenser The gym was FILTHY, bugs, slime, stains, broken equipment, no water, no towels, … it was BAD! I will never stay here again

The bed had a several large blood stains on comforter , sheet and pillow cases. The bathroom had mold in the tub. The security box for the side door had been ripped off and was propped open. The room was dirty. I spoke with the manager the next morning about the blood stained bedding. I was told because I did not leave the room and I received fresh bedding that I would be charged the full price. I explained to her that it was late when we checked in I found the blood stains at 11:30 PM the other hotels in town were full due to a boat show. I told her I could not leave. My only other option was to sleep in my car. She said would’ve been a good option. The manager I spoke with was very rude. Refused to refund my money. I was also not given an apology. The manager told me to just give the hotel a bad review. They did not care and they would not refund my money.

There was old soap left on the bathtub, the hair dryer didn't work, the mirror was dirty, I found two bugs on the bed. I won't go there again.

Do not stay at this hotel. It is gross. Top to bottom. Filthy. Only one light bulb worked throughout our room. Ceiling in the room was almost falling in, with terrible leak stains. Tiles falling off the wall in the bathroom. Dirty everywhere. Never again!!!

My room had bed bugs

Room was DISGUSTING. Unfortunately we had to book a room while driving, it was too late to keep going to our destination. It was 1000% obvious the cleaning crew only do the beds, toilet and shower. There was a pot cigarette we found half smoked in the lamp next to my friend's bed. "Ah so that was the pot smell." When we told the front desk, they asked why we didn't throw it away. Cause I'm not touching that! That's a YOU thing. There was some substance on the light switch/toilet paper holder, that I really hope was jam. Again, if it wasn't for the great bed I would have just said, let's sleep in the car. Friend went down to check out the breakfast, she said to skip. So we went to grab stuff at the gas station across the street.

Filthy, Disgusting and should be condemned. So ungodly humid the walls, floors and ceiling were sweating. Rooms had tile floors that werw wet from the humidity and when wiped with a towel....the towel was black with dirt and filth. Rooms smelled of mold and mildew and beds were just gross not to mention VERY uncomfortable. Grounds were Disgusting and unmaintained (garbage everywhere and building in shambles) Since it was Memorial day weekend and we were in the area for a family reunion, everything else in the area was solid out. If I could give ZERO stars, I WOULD.!!. The ONLY positive thing I can say about the place is, the night man, John, was very nice and helpful.

The property could use a good cleaning. Rooms smell musty, beds are high and uncomfortable. The floor feels dirty.

We went through 3 rooms and each one had an issue.107 had mold in the window and on the skirt of the mattress and the room smelled horrible like they were trying to cover up something, 108 had a damn snail in the window like how in the world?! And room 209 was just as bad bed bugs on the wall… we left so fast. The kicker is the front desk worker had on gloves he was prepping the hotels breakfast food with and he came to each room with us with them on and we kept reminding him to change them!!!! We were concerned for other guest and let them know what happened and they cancelled their reservations!! All hotels on Franklin St are HORRIBLE AND DIRTY

Yikes. Check-in guy didn’t even greet us before rambling off a list of warnings regarding the broken elevators, issues with remote and tv, etc. He was very rude and did not seem to exhibit any custom service at all! In our room, visible black mold was in the shower. No hot water at all in sink or shower. Knife marks were on the headboard. There was barely anything available for breakfast (no coffee or cereal or anything). Floors were filthy. I will say, the bed itself was extremely comfortable with nice mattress and nice linens.

The pictures online were false advertisement. The building appears to have structural issues from the outside. There was never anyone at the front desk when I needed service. Dirty linens, and trash stayed in the hallway all night. Room smelt damp like mold. Phone and TV in room did not work. Mold on the bed skirt, around air unit, on lamp shade, and in the shower. Huge scratches on the headboard. Rust on lamp, and toilet paper holder. And no hot water.

Overall, the room was fine. It's an older hotel, so it is showing its age in some places. The sheets were super clean.

Front desk person was awesome but the phone in the room did not work. The tv was a fiasco the way its setup. You need two remotes to work it and no channel guide in room to see what you want to watch. Breakfast was bare minimum for choices

All that I want from a motel is a clean room/bathroom and a comfortable bed. They filled both of those expectations.

We had a room near the elevator which would ding loudly each time the door opened. Our room itself was okay, comfortable bed and clean bedding which is what we needed as we checked in late to sleep. The condition of most of the hotel was very run down and in disrepair. That being said, it was pretty cheap. I would stay again if I only needed to sleep.

Average hotel at a decent price. It is what it is. Room was clean and for a place to stay over one night, it fit the bill. Would not do an extended stay here.

They had a pool that was ok to swim, but didn't go in it. The nightly mid week rates were good. I would have liked to been able to use a dependable wi-fi system. Kept losing connectivity and can't print anything locally. The morning breakfast was leftover food from days past. Not fresh. I would not stay again.

The Comfort Inn was clean, comfortble, the rooms were big in size which was good.

The people were friendly got a huge room with a huge tub and walk-in shower, dining table sink refrigerator

Well the one me and my fiance stayed at wasn't necessarily bad ,but the TV channel selection wasn't too good at all ,just local channels for the most part and the wifi kept booting us out every 10-15 minutes.. The breakfast had limited options and the coffee was kinda funky .

They are remodeling so it's a work in progress. My room had the biggest fluffiest bed. Very large and quiet. The outside of the building just needs a paint job. The limited staff is efficient and knowledgeable and helpful.

I accidently completed a review on Stoughton WI on the previously submitted review. This is the problem property. This front desk was so incredibly rude and discourteous that I decided not to stay there at all. I asked for a refund and she refused. I asked to speak to the manager. She refused. I asked for the managers name and contact info. She refused. Was the absolutely the rudest person I have encountered in my entire life. Expedia is supposed to refund this according to this person. I will no longer book any future stays with Expedia!

The lady tiffany was very nice and helpful and she made sure that we had a decent stay. There was a few hiccups here and there but overall it worked out at the end..

Tried to check in early and front desk person was rude told check in was 4:00 then she walked away Came back at 3;30 rang the bell twice and no answer Came back in at 3:45 and different clerk said that housekeeper had not checked in There were only 3 cars in the parking lot

The gentleman at the desk when we checked in was the best greeter I have seen in a long time. So happy, friendly, and polite. Thank you and thank him for us as well. 10/21/23

George at the front desk was rude and difficult right from our arrival. Because of his attitude and unprofessional approach, we decided to not stay at this hotel. He told us to contact Hotels.com to move to another hotel or get a refund and that when Hotels.com contacted him, he refused to work with them and refused the refund. Fortunately, Hotels.com understands that once in a while you deal with these type of people and have credited our account.. definitely won’t return to that hotel again.

Our stay started off with a rude person for check in. When we got to our room it smelled of cigarette smoke and the sheets were disgusting. I heard others during our stay complain of having to go to Walmart to buy sheets because they would not sleep on such filthiness. The back door was constantly propped open by a rock with a sign saying they kept it locked for the guest's safety. When we complained they said you should have come to us so we could switch your room. They offered no other assistance. We will not stay here again

The staff was wonderful!! It was unkept outside and i think the owners live there. There was an odd area people were coming out of. There was a musty, dirty smell when you walked in, in the lobby, and the entire building. You can tell it was an old building that was quickly renovated and corners were cut. Our room felt muggy and smelled like a very strong cleaner. The air conditioner worked fine, but never got rid of the mugginess. There were a few spots where bugs or spiders were smashed on the wall and never wiped off. The room wasn't carpeted either, which is just a personal preference i don't like. We stayed at a Comfort Inn the night before, and the room was gorgeous, carpeted, significantly more modern, very clean, smelled great, and had an amazing breakfast. I don't know why this one wasn't of equal value, quality, and overall experience.

Good for quick night rest if traveling I-94. Close to HW. In and out

Great, close to restaurants, shopping, casino, Gasoline.

Easy to find.

Property was conveniently located off the highway (I94) and also close to Indiana Toll Road. Gas stations next to hotel and restaurants close by. Convenient location for Notre Dame football games for those who don't want to travel back especially after night games.

It's a drug and homeless encampment.

A convenient place near the interstate. Many restaurants within walking distance. Not for someone who is looking for a "cute" place.

Just overall a poor experience, the surrounding area is abandoned and unkept. There was no discernable odor in the building, and I did not try the food.

There was mattresss in the parking lot it was dark and felt very unsafe. I was told by many people not to stay there and find somewhere else to book. Which I did. Would not recommend. Does not look like the photos at all.

Directly across from my room, in the hall, was a dehumidifier so possible leak or water damage. The room door handle/lock had a large hole like something was replaced or missing. Inside the room wasn’t much better. Hooks were missing or barely hanging on. I was so disappointed. Shortly after arriving, there seemed to be some sort of domestic situation. I would not stay here again. I actually tried to change hotels but unfortunately did not purchase insurance.

Bathroom and entry way floor was dirty. Shower had hair in it . People hanging out along front side of hotel. Looked with drunk or high. For the money I paid I expected a more updated room. Breakfast area floor and tables were dirty. Never again!

I have come to realize that staying at Comfort Inn regardless of the property location can be dicey. My stay with my family in Michigan City was not good. Check-in slow and I was never asked to show ID or provide a credit card. Front desk desk had no idea who or how many were staying in our Suite. 2 bedroom Suite was in poor condition. No smoke detector in bedroom with the King bed. Double doors between rooms were broken, beat up and would not close. No TV. Either room. Traveling with my 3 year old grandson. Didn't get resolved during our stay despite being told by the front desk that it was being worked on. Hand written sign posted at the front desk stated Cable was "temporarily down" and dated the 1st of June. Still no TV when I checked out on the 4th. Metal handle literally fell off one of the dresser drawers in the second room. No sheets for the pull out couch in the second room. Security hardware on the door in the second room was missing. Just screw holes where it should of been mounted. Breakfast, coffee, etc. were crap. Stayed at this property in October of 2022 in the same 2 room suite on another floor. Our experience in October was fine. Not having smoke detectors on the walls in a fire code and MAJOR safety issue! If you are planning to stay at this property I would not recommend it.

I liked the fact that there was ALWAYS coffee available for our consumption no matter the time of day or night. I also liked the layout of the room we stayed in. My thoughts on what can be improved: the outside of the building is not very appealing. Repairs and upkeep need to be done on the building. Also, it would be nice if the menu would change during the week for breakfast; not have the EXACT same options EVERYDAY.

There was no one at the desk in the evening and morning. You had to ring bell before someone came. Coffee was very weak. Breakfast was not stocked. Looked like left from day before as is. Orange juice came out as water. Usually stay at Comfort Inns because of certain standard. This felt more like a 2 star hotel.

Bags of trash in the hall with food on the floor. Dirty floors - elevator, lobby, hallway. No hot water in shower only warm. No coffee ready every time I tried to get some. Trash in parking lot. Won’t be back.
