Stop off on a walking holiday in the Peaks. Absolutely stunning Hotel - have stayed in many hotels around the world and this competes with the best - attention to detail impressive, rooms delightful - bath filled in about 3 minutes :) . Courtyard garden lovely and a really good restaurant. Also lots of comfy couches in and around to relax into after a fantastic days walking in the Peaks. Our stay wasn’t long enough.

There was a nice beer garden and the staff were very helpful. However there was a lot of noise and our room fronted onto the road which meant there was traffic noise as well. The food was lovely.

The hotel had been very tastefully decorated throughout. Loved the Bronte themed room names! We also loved the fact that there was a radio, TV, tower fan, kettle, coffee maker and hair dryer in our room. The supplies of tea, coffee, milk and bottled water were replenished each day. As it was peak season we needed to book a table for our evening meal. There was a good choice of items on the menu and the food was delicious. We had breakfast included in our room price and again there was a good choice of items on the menu. Apart from on the day of our arrival, Sunday afternoon, it was really easy to find a space in the hotel's car park. The barrier rises automatically on entering, but you need to input a code (available from Reception) on exiting. The only thing we didn't like was the fact that the hotel was on a very busy main road. Sadly they can't really do more about that as the windows in our room had already been double glazed (in keeping with the lovely character of the property). Overall we really enjoyed our stay and the hotel was certainly a good base for exploring the Hope Valley.

Amazing hotel in a perfect location. Everything was superb, the room, the bar, the cozy fire, the drinks, the breakfast all brilliant. We tried hard to find a fault and all we could come up with was the room was too warm through the night but even then they had left us a Dyson fan in the room that we forgot about.

Lovely place to stay. Great staff, nice open feel, good food and excellent beer from local Sheffield brewery. Local sourcing is a strong theme here and I recommend it to you!

The staff were super lovely, food was great and the vibe of the hotel was so cosy! The room was a great size and well furnished. The bed was very very firm. Not the most wonderful nights sleep because of that and how much you can hear your neighbours. The bathroom was also a little unclean, not enough to warrant complaining but it felt like a few things were missed. I would absolutely go back again for food and drinks.

Lovely, clean rooms and decor in general. Staff friendly and efficient- in particular breakfast waitress on Wednesday was super! Breakfast was really nice and atmosphere was pleasantly casual. Parking busier on weekends but plenty of space during weekdays- just drive past automatic barrier and use code to leave again. Easy process to follow and parking feels secure. Free teas , coffees, and sparkling and still waters in the room are appreciated. Thanks for a great stay. Would book again!

We loved our stay here, the staff in particular are superb, they couldn’t do enough to help us which was even more appreciated given that we had our toddler with us. The rooms are beautifully decorated, quiet and large. My only criticism is that there was a bit of black mould around the bath/shower in our bathroom which needs bleaching, otherwise everywhere was spotless. We will be back for sure.

The George could be good, but just isn’t. With a view of the rubbish bins from our room, the consistent noise of the air vents from the kitchen all day, our room wasn’t even cleaned (and we only got back from a walk at 3pm!), the service in the restaurant and bar took 20-30 mins to even place an order, the food menu sounds great but is over cooked and not great. The quality of fit out is good, the execution isn’t and just the basics. There were enough staff working, so it must be poor management and limited coaching / upskill as the staff walk past you, head down and avoid eye contact. The bins could be moved, the staff could be managed and trained better - all fixable, but not a good experience.

Perfect in every way. Even the weather was great and Chatsworth is the best day out. Superb food, faultless service and spotless cleanliness. Only gripe was that the shampoo and body wash labels were worn away. If every hotel only had that problem we would live in a perfect World. 5+ Stars

Great hotel, in a lovely location. The public areas, bar, lounge, restaurant etc are all beautifully decorated and well kept. We stayed 3 nights and eat in the hotel each night. The food was really good quality and well cooked. Same with the breakfast, although I would have preferred to see a continental selection layed out. Our room was individually decorated, but was marred by a couple of maintenence issues. We did speak to reception and they did try to resolve them, but unfortunately we were not able to open a window to let any fresh air in. This resulted in the room smelling musty, which spoilt things for me. That said, we would definitely stay again, in large part because the staff were all so helpful and lovely.

We booked the George for a one night stay and it fulfilled all our expectations. The room was a good size and very well furnished (including very quirky wallpaper), the staff were uniformly friendly and efficient and the food (both evening meal and breakfast) was excellent. Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved our 1 night stay here! My family and I shared a family suite which was stunning. Beautiful decor and traditional styling complete this room, I was blown away with the quality of the fixtures and fittings. Child’s single made up on arrival and extra towels left for her. Radio and dimmed lights were on as we entered the room, setting a lovely ambience. They had also left a fan on as a really warm arrival day and we thought that was a lovely touch. Hairdryer in the room, which is very handy and plenty of mirrors near sockets, which for some reason is becoming a rarity in hotels these days… well not here! All the lovely little extras made our stay one of which we won’t forget! Plenty of complementary tea and coffee in the room, bottles of still and sparkling water, again complementary which added to the luxurious feel. We really were amazed by the whole experience. We dined in the restaurant at night and the staff were second to none… very attentive and breakfast was amazing! We can’t wait to return!

This hotel is very well appointed and in a great location for Hathersage and the surrounding areas for walks. The rooms were fabulous and very well equipped with coffee pod machine and lovely luxury toiletries. The breakfast was superb. We had the best stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to revisit.

Our room was spacious and very comfortable and although it was at the front the traffic was not a problem. We had both breakfast and dinner for two nights and were not disappointed, plenty of choice and all beautifully cooked. All in all an excellent stay at a reasonable price. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

Lovely building in a great spot in Hathersage, breakfast was also very nice. Room (a superior double) had a great shower and nice comfy bed. I was a little concerned it was directly above the bar but given we were told the front doors are locked from 11:30 we hoped it wouldn't be an issue... Cue loud music playing until around 11:20 to 11:30 and then loud noises, shouting etc (I could literally hear word for word what people were saying) until the last people left at around 10 past midnight. Really not what we were hoping for given we'd been on a big hike in the day and we're hoping for a nice relaxing evening, and way under expectation given I'd booked a "superior" room. When going to check out I was considering what to say, but they didn't actually even ask if I had a good stay. maybe others had already complained. Despite the many positive things I ultimately want to be able to get a good night's sleep, so have no intention of returning. It should be made abundantly clear before booking that you're paying to sleep above such a raucous bar. Which is pretty odd in the setting.

The George is well placed, spacious and easy to find on Main Street. The car park has adequate parking spaces and the bedrooms are just gorgeous - very well furnished with velvet armchairs, firm beds, sumptuous decor. We were very pleasantly surprised by the restaurant which served a range of traditional and imaginative/new foods. I tried and loved the local gin, Shivery Mountain. My only beef was the check out process: The staff do not seem au fait with the IT system at all and I was given the wrong bill and made to wait a very long time before I could settle the right amount. My advice: book through Expedia and settle any extras as you go rather than at the end of your stay.

Staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast menu was first class.

Wonderful hotel - had a lovely break before Christmas. Room beautifully decorated, delicious breakfast, excellent bars and restaurant and friendly staff. Will definitely stay again!

The George could be good, but just isn’t. With a view of the rubbish bins from our room, the consistent noise of the air vents from the kitchen all day, our room wasn’t even cleaned (and we only got back from a walk at 3pm!), the service in the restaurant and bar took 20-30 mins to even place an order, the food menu sounds great but is over cooked and not great. The quality of fit out is good, the execution isn’t and just the basics. There were enough staff working, so it must be poor management and limited coaching / upskill as the staff walk past you, head down and avoid eye contact. The bins could be moved, the staff could be managed and trained better - all fixable, but not a good experience.

Great hotel, in a lovely location. The public areas, bar, lounge, restaurant etc are all beautifully decorated and well kept. We stayed 3 nights and eat in the hotel each night. The food was really good quality and well cooked. Same with the breakfast, although I would have preferred to see a continental selection layed out. Our room was individually decorated, but was marred by a couple of maintenence issues. We did speak to reception and they did try to resolve them, but unfortunately we were not able to open a window to let any fresh air in. This resulted in the room smelling musty, which spoilt things for me. That said, we would definitely stay again, in large part because the staff were all so helpful and lovely.

Fantastic find in a wonderful part of the uk Bar and restaurant was lovely with welcoming staff Good menu choices and great food Location next to the Derbyshire Dales Make sure to visit the historic church on the hill and Little John’s grave

This hotel is very well appointed and in a great location for Hathersage and the surrounding areas for walks. The rooms were fabulous and very well equipped with coffee pod machine and lovely luxury toiletries. The breakfast was superb. We had the best stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to revisit.

A lovely hotel sitting in the middle of the countryside. Food lovely and had a family atmosphere about it. Transport to and from Sheffield or Manchester very easy by train not to mention all the lovely walks in the surrounding areas. The room was excellent and the shower and bed was just what you would want. One wee issue, room does get warm and with no air con a better fan would be useful, but that is being picky.

A fabulous property within the Peak District National Park, serving good food & beer, but also easily accessed from Sheffield too. A short drive from the Ladybower Dam for Dambuster fans & the Snake Pass for those who may enjoy the drive to Glossop & back !

Had great time. Great food and service and a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. We found it relaxing sand ideally situation location wise for walking and use of the Hatherssge outdoor pool just 5/10 mins walk from the hotel. A must of you stay at the George. Only recently reopened in June 2024 means it is fresh with tasteful decor. Recommend highly and enjoy.

We couldn’t recommend this hotel enough. We stayed in room 17 (family room) we had lots of space and the room was beautifully decorated. The staff are amazing! So helpful and friendly everyday! The food?!? Is brilliant! We ate here two nights because it was that good! We will definitely return in the future

Lovely hotel. Lovely staff. I would stay again. Rooms were stylish. The only snag was the bed was cluttered with super annoying cushions that drove us mad! We had to keep cramming them into the wardrobe to get rid of them! The restaurant seemed rather overpriced. But it was a super hotel.

Perfect stay at the George. Beautifully decorated, warm and welcoming with very attentive staff. Our room was spacious and very comfortable and although it was at the front the traffic was not a problem. We had both breakfast and dinner for two nights and were not disappointed, plenty of choice and all beautifully cooked. All in all an excellent stay at a reasonable price. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

We had paid a £10 pp deposit on the evening meals. When coming to pay the staff claimed no knowledge of our deposits. It is not acceptable to have to make breakfast menu choices the day before. I have never come across this at any other hotel

Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms was great well presented tea coffee making. Tv and good on suite bathroom. Only 1negative room was a bit on the cold side heating could do with looking at, as my radiator never got more than hand hot

The warmest welcome, a spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished and decorated room, the food in the evening was exquisite, every staff member I spoke to was fantastic, the bar and lounge areas are super comfortable, and the breakfast clearly was made from top quality ingredients. Seriously I could not fault the place, superb all round.
