Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Diego - Mission Valley by IHG

Single night stay. Room was nice and clean. Bed was comfortable. Used the jacuzzi and it was clean. Fire pit area was nice. There was a lot of indoor and outdoor seating with plugs for laptops etc. Didn’t wake up in time for breakfast. $15 parking fee online or $24 in person. It’s not covered but I did see security walking around. The hotel in front is riddled with homeless and sketchy looking people. Hotel is central and located in Hotel circle.

The property is pay to park and parking spaces available on Saturday night were insufficient. Had to drive around looking for a space. Several of the garage spaces were filled with filing cabinets.

Liked the warm pool and hot tub, staff at front were really friendly. Breakfast was great, always had a meat option (other hotel often have just biscuits and gravy…not a family favorite!) that was well stocked. All breakfast items were well stocked. Lots of pool towels all the time. Beds were OK as well, shower had a wonderful showerhead and water was warm in the room.

Overall close to our travel seaworld but i have a couple complaints. Housekeeping left trash on my table and dresser, didnt vacuum. The treadmill in the gym doesnt work and has no sign stating that its super tiny literally only weights waist of time. The tv in our room had spots on it like 3 white spots aso it affected everything we were watching. I let staff know immediately after each incident and when i made the complaint to the higher above she said there was nothing noted even after the staff confirmed to me that they noted it so they lied. They didnt not want to dadmit to it and apparently asked maintenence about treadmill and they lied about nothing being broked or unuasable totally disappointing would not book here EVER again

The heated pool was a nice surprise. The breakfast was great with plenty of health conscious options. Only negative is the $24 fee for parking.

Three of the four exercise equipment pieces in the tiny gym were broken. I was given a room right off the main lobby that was noisy. Seem to be no recycling whatsoever. The staff was friendly and courteous, but not particularly effective in answering questions or serving my needs

Very happy with our stay. The hotel and room was kept very clean, the staff was very friendly and the breakfast was great. Loved the pool and hot tub.

only 1 elevator was working and it took like 5mins to get on it, sometimes it would stop at different flyand no one is there.maid never came to our room the next morning so had to call down said they would be to clean the next morning but when we got back to the room it still hasnt been cleaned then around 3:30 she finally came to our room when we wanted to rest from our day so we left the room and went down to the lobby fy awhile. our tv had issues trying to change channels didn’t want to work it also kept losing signal and ot had 3 white spots continuously on the screen.

Parking slots very very narrow. Difficult to park large suv.

I like how it supplied shampoo conditioner body wash, bed frame was dirty noone vacuums behind bedframe pretty icky other than that the stay was good

The shower had mold and their breakfast area was so small they kept running out of breakfast food and had to wait for them to pass by to let them know

My hotel room was nasty. There were bugs and the shower hasn’t been cleaned. Ants were on the shower floor.Carpet was dirty!!! I complained to the front desk team twice .nothing was done. I emailed their corporate office no response as of yet! I have pictures as well.i wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Our stay was amazing! Probably the cleanest hotel we have ever stayed at. Always seen someone cleaning.

The hotel has a lovely lobby/great room area that's indoor and outdoor adjacent to the pool. Their coffee is fresh brewed all day, which was an excellent break at the start of the day or for the afternoon slump after touring San Diego. The room was nicely outfitted, good comfortable bed. I do wish hotels used down pillows less, they turn so flat. The bathroom was perfect, a standing shower with glass doors and brightly lit mirror for makeup application. Everyone from cleaning to desk staff was helpful and kind.

This hotel was way over priced for what it had to offer. In addition, a $25 charge to park in their lot was ridiculous. Our bathroom shower was not clean. It was more like a Motel 6 clean vs. a Marriott clean. The dining area was very nice and food selection was nice.

Hotel was very clean and well maintained

My standard king room was extremely SMALL… Not even close to the description online as far as square feet is concerned. I could not even maneuver around my bed without hitting the TV stand in front of it..

The carpet was ripped, and the AC was not working. We booked a suite sofa bed that was broken. living area TV was not working. overall experience is only 2star out of 5

Strongest Points for this hotel - It’s a good value, clean, great location, near Fashion Valley Mall, Good Free Breakfast… WiFi in rooms is a little spotty … Parking is a little expensive… Overall definitely recommend… will be back.

Great hotel in all regards except internet was finicky! Staff was nice and breakfast was great! They called twice to find out what time we wanted to check in. Maybe strange but maybe considerate for their planning. Too short a stay to comment more

Really nice and clean. Spacious room. Good size bathroom and shower. A+ facility.

The property is nice and kept clean, with spacious rooms and a courteous and helpful staff. The breakfast was good, with a nice selection of items and good coffee, although they had no half and half today, so that was an issue. However, my main issue was the bed, which was way too firm and caused me back and neck pain, so be warned if you don't like extra firm beds.

Comfortable room, but we were next to the pool which was very noisy.

We stayed in one of the jacuzzi suites. The room was clean and in excellent condition. Bed was a bit on the hard side but not too bad, was able to get used to it after the first night. We did hear our upstairs neighbors on the first night (kids seemed to be having fun upstairs). The hotel does serve daily breakfast but I only went down to grab a cup of coffee and go back up to my room. There is a small coffee machine in the room but no water is provided for it. We also used the pool and hot tub during our stay. Great space, adequate for a nice dip. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and felt comfortable, safe, and secure. Hotel location is great, short drive to all the places we wanted to see.

The hotel was clean and convenient. I was traveling with six kids. We were in two doubles and a sofa bed. Our stay confirmed that I needed a suite with the sofa bed in a separate area. Also, our sofa bed was broken. It never got fixed.

I would like to thank the staff for their openness to extend our rooms, when we needed it. Our family was not sure how long we would need to stay. They were kind, willing to help,, and did heir best to accommodate us.

MK was very nice in helping my family and I have a smooth check in on July 27th.

We had inconsistent use of our key cards during our entire stay and at one point didn't have keys to use at all on our first check in day. One key worked to let us in initially but stopped working the same day after this first use. (Long story, I would welcome talking with someone personally). For the inconvenience, we were told but the GM that our parking would be comped during our stay, and at check out, we were still charged for parking and I had to argue with the front desk staff to even get her to call someone to even find out how she should handle the discrepancy after initially being refused to be refunded. The AGM finally arrived to allow us to be refined our parking fees, to allow us to be able to leave the property so that we could be on the road to get back home at a reasonable hour. It was not ideal, courteous or convenient having to sit to be refunded until the GM (who didn't respond to being contacted) or the AGM to arrive for us to be refunded so we could be on our way.

Tried checking in early after 1pm due to trip logistics and was told to come back after 3pm. Held our luggage which was appreciated. Came back after 4pm and told rooms not ready. Waited for a “manager to do a final check” which took almost 30 minutes. Two travel weary families with all our luggage waited in the lobby. Then our room air conditioning was insufficient. Asked for it to be sorted while we went out for dinner. Came back to same problem and asked for help again only to learn their resolution was to keep turning down the thermostat temp (which isn’t the issue and doesn’t result in cool air). Third escalation resulted in waiting 2 hours for a fan to be delivered. Attendant at front desk couldn’t leave his post because he was the only hotel employee for the evening! This is not safe. Went to the lobby with our families to enjoy the TV, lounge and fireplace only to find out that the fireplace wasn’t working. The attendant was unable to get it working and actually had the gas running without being lit for too long. We had to tell him ourselves to stop the gas and let it dissipate due to safety reasons. The TV didn’t have the event on we wanted and the attendant didn’t know how to toggle the TV either. On the second night our family was parking the car and the San Diego police arresting a man in the back lot of the building. Also we think we watched 2 separate evictions of squatters by police from the adjacent residence/motel.

We definitely overall enjoyed our stay. The lounging areas outside by the pool with the fire pits and tvs was nice. Not that we got to experience it because we had the littles with us, but definitely would bring us back for a childless trip. They were understaffed one of our nights, we called for more pillows and the man at the front told us he can’t leave until his shift was over because he was the only one there, but would bring them when the next person came for their shift. He never came with pillows. Not sure how a whole hotel can run with one person on a Friday night. If you’re looking for comfortable bed this also isn’t the place. But you take your pros with cons and I would say we would stay again. Wish they had a free late check out though.

I recently stayed at your hotel for a week long work convention. Although I have stayed previously, this stay was exceptional started from when I checked in. The front desk clerk took the time to go up and check the location and view of a few rooms for me after I stated I was staying for the week so that I would have a pleasant and comfortable stay. He even upgraded my room. the hotel is newer and very clean and efficient. Nice lobby, food and pool areas which I use and enjoy. My flight was delayed on my check out day so I called to see about a late checkout which they gladly offered for a fee which was totally fair and acceptable. When I finally went down to checkout they ended up waving the late checkout charge after learning I've stayed before and likely to stay in the future. I don't remember the guy that helped me with check in but the two ladies that helped me checking out were Angelica and Elizabeth. To sum up, was truly an awesome stay and the service from all the staff I interacted with was pleasurable. Congrats to IHG group for having such an exceptional staff at Holiday Inn Express & Suites- Mission Valley. Warmest Regards, Ben

All the amenities were great, front desk AK was courteous, friendly, he went out of his way to make us feel welcome and took care of an issue we had in our room. He did an amazing job!

This is a great option for a short stay. The hotel is conveniently located near a shopping mall. The breakfast offer was very good too.

Nice service from staff. Very professional. The property is as pictured. Clean and quiet. We knew about the $24 parking so it wasn’t surprising. It’s a bit annoying but it seems like a standard practice in the area. There is a hotel that you have to drive by to get to the Holiday Inn Parking lot. We saw some sketchy looking people there but otherwise the area was fine. Convenient to get on the highway!

Room was fine. Entrance to property TERRIBLE; difficult to locate turning off main road.

Nothing to do within walking distance .

The area is a hotel center. Good access to Freeways and close to get to tourist areas. Not walkable as busy streets. If you are looking for a good hotel with good service breakfast and a heated pool located within easy reach to San Diego’s activities this hotel is great.

Cop cars all over the area when we arrived. No restaurant in the place. Breakfast was okay. Difficult to find entry.

Convenient location.

Room was okay but for a $200 dlls a night room I would expect much much more. The breakfast is a joke. Better go to a $100-$130 a night hotel and you will find a much better room, much better service, and MUCH better breakfast. Seriously, do not stay here.

Everyone was professional and considerate. The breakfast each morning was great. The amenities for what you pay are better than most. Definitely recommend!

Stayed one night with family of 5. Great experience overall. Room and facility were clean. Staff was prompt and courteous. Parking was easy but I can imagine on a busy night it might be challenging. The breakfast provided a ton of options which is great but the "cooked" food (eggs, sausage, potatoes) left something to be desired.

Very quiet being away from the street, very strong water pressure of the shower (maybe LAFD shud learn from Holiday Inn how to get water pressure for their hydrants). Cons: very limited dining tables during breakfast due to a big area dedicated to cushion chairs and small coffee tables.

The breakfast setup could have been better and the choices should have been a little bit more veggie or dietary options for people who don't eat meat
