a very old property with fascinating history which is not emphasised. when we visited only 1 staff member at dinner who did very well for being a relatively new start. unfortunately the restaurant wasn't open when we visited and only the bar menu was available no warning given about restaurant closure. Having said that the menu was adequate.

Friday evening there were a few dishes unavailable from menu which was disappointing.

Nice period hotel, with lots of period features, very comfortable in a quiet location with plenty of off street parking. Great friendly staff. Nice bar with plenty of choice of food & drinks. Will certainly use again.

Under new management, just finding their feet, but so welcoming & very helpful my room was warm, welcoming & well stocked outside weather was -5 but room was warm & cosy. Great menu & bar will certainly use again

This hotel is very good, The only real problem was we were there for my Birthday,We went out with family arrived back at about 10pm so we could have a drink and the bar was closed on the Saturday evening. So we and friends who were also staying at hotel could not celebrate my birthday. On the Friday it was closed at about 10.15pm . We assumed being a hotel it would be open so nobody had to drink and drive. Other than this our stay was Okay.

Amazing staff, room and parking excellent

Excellent building, tastefully modernised. Only criticisms were there was no covered bike rack and the only two real ales were both Greene King. There are excellent local breweries, Ampersand and Grain come to mind plus local real cider so surprised they didn't have these kind of options

Our stay was in the coach house, not the main hotel. Conversations, television sounds and snores from adjacent rooms were overly intrusive, and general maintenance poor. The hotel overall was acceptable but I would not be staying in the annexe again!

Nice setting and grand building. Not that clean. Room front door wouldn’t open more than quarter of the way as catching on carpet. No toilet roll so asked at reception desk and they managed to get 1 roll from their toilet. Lots of cob webs in the room, light in storage cupboard didn’t work so struggled to see our clothes etc after hz hung them Up. The shaving light didn’t work and the wall mounted shaving mirror was do lie I had to bend down for a shave.

What can I say.The negatives.Courtyard untidy on arrival 2 staff outside smoking,one had feet on the table.In the Nelson Suite large but drab miss match furniture room stifling broken sash cord on only window managed to force open used book to prop open,kettle lead too short had to place kettle on floor stale water in coffee machine no bath robes in room as advertised ironing board inadequate Bed creaking lumpy and pillow cases tatty with the stuffing coming out shower inadequate no pressure Asked for another room,none available booked evening meal no pie or steak available my sausage and mash arrived cold with congealed gravy and broccoli spears to break your teeth on sent food back waiter admitted there were issues,dead right there,Breakfast well !!! Milk jug filthy,no hot water urn,no orange juice,no fruits,yogurts if you don’t like coco pops you are stuffed,asked for cornflakes and more orange juice which they didn’t have the bacon could be used to make a saddle,consequently cancelled breakfast following day and had dinner at the White Hart at Roydon first class which is more than I can say for the Scole inn.Atrocious place and I would not recommend to anyone under any circumstances,not the luxury stay as we we led to believe it would be,We were glad to leave.,Oh and housekeeping was non existent dust all over the place,second day didn’t tuck in bottom bed sheet or clean toilet shower gel dispenser left empty

Very lovely old hotel. Easy to find & check in simple. On walking to our room at the back it was unkempt we were in like an outbuilding as were our friends. Very nicely done rooms with a fan which was needed on all the time as it was very hot. There were quite a few cobwebs & spiders in both rooms. Our friend’s room had a broken part on the mixer tap which we reported on checking out.

Very pleasant place to stay - visit was for a cycle event so a comfortable relaxing environment was much appreciated. Room was clean and everything worked. Staff friendly and helpful.

The mattress was an item of torture with broken and weak springs. The room had a discarded bottle on the floor, dead flies on the window sill and most of the time the television would not work. The bathroom had severe need of corners cleaning. The towels and bedding were fine and tea/coffee facilities were very good. Not quite a complete disaster but I won't be back.

The actual hotel looked lovely but our room was in a brick out building behind the car park. It smelled quite musty, the single beds were pretty small and the bathroom was outdated with a toilet seat that barely fitted or was fitted wrongly.

Nice quirky old property. Very clean, comfy beds. We had a couple of issues on arrival but was dealt with by staff quickly and very satisfactory. All staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast available for reasonable extra charge on booking, very nice and well worth it. Would definitely stay again if in the area

Room carpet was dirty and stained and overall room not very clean. No net curtain on a ground floor room so was overlooked. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Parking easy and welcoming staff. I found the pillows on the bed really uncomfortably and firm. The pillow case was like sand paper I never right reviews but this needed a mention. The tv remote also hardly worked and you have to operate at uncomfortable angles.

Twin room was in an out building, the bed was comfy and the shower (in bath) was good. Let down by poor WiFi and a bathroom mirror only good for anyone 5ft 8 or less. If you have a fear of spiders this is not a good room. I counted 6 large spiders.

Full English breakfast good but the other offerings were somewhat meagre. Good coffee from a super macine. Room was ok, bed good but needs refurbishment. We weee in the annexe but the main building was empty - why?

Great building and old features, beds sqeaky though

I didn’t catch her name but the young lady who is assistant manager… what a job she does! She looked after reception, was the main waitress, also serving behind the bar. And no one was left waiting whatsoever and all on a night that the hotel was fully booked. Tremendous job!

Great staff

I cannot praise the staff highly enough - they were wonderful to us when we had a crisis with our car.

The young gentleman on reception and behind the bar went above and beyond.

Lovely building, great staff and great breakfast but a little bit more attention to detail required. We had a lovely room, but arrived slightly early and were told under no circumstance could be check in early, even though the room was ready, without paying a £10 an hour early check in charge. Suddenly an extra £20, thankfully the room was very nice, and pretty clean but could have done with some attention, the bathroom door wouldn't stay closed without something up against it. Next morning there were no side plates for toast, salt on the tables but no pepper, there were two young ladies/girls waitressing, one seemed rushed of her feet, the other seemed to not be doing much, whoever is managing staff needs to just give the staff a little bit more training, basics, like put out the salt and pepper, put out side plates, give out cups and saucers, or mugs, just a mug would have been fine. Overall a great stay but needs a bit of fine tuning.

Staff were not great! When I arrived at 20:30 they had already closed the kitchen. fortunately a pub close to the hotel had a completely different attitude and turned his oven back on so that he could cook me some food I had to listen to a heated argument between two members of staff during breakfast with plenty of swearing! The room was in need of modernisation The hotel has great potential as it is a beautiful building but they need the right staff who understand hospitality

If you’re driving, it’s an excellent quiet location for all routes. A taxi into Diss is £8-£10. However, the 25 minute walk to Diss is not recommended. The pavement is next to a very busy, narrow road. Neither is the walk to the 24-hour M&S food/ petrol station. There is no pavement beside a busy dual carriageway. Scole is lovely. Walking anywhere far is a nightmare. You need a car!

An ideal base geographically for chosen sight seeing locations along with meeting up with friends. Disappointed that the room was not within the original 17 century building with so much character. I was allocated a ground floor room in a relatively new block at the rear of the property. The room did not really have any wow factor and I got the feeling that these are the rooms provided to workmen during the week. The pop up plug in the sink was missing and the bath plug did'nt fit. There was a hot iron mark on the carpet. Returning from a day out on the second day the door to the room was found wide open. This was addressed with the receptionist who apologized on behalf of the management (whom I never saw), fortunately nothing appeared to be missing. The bar service was good and the staff in general were very friendly. The hot food served was adequate.

Value for money, old and quirky, comfortable clean room, ideal for quick stopover

Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was really good

Avoid you will pay for breakfast but lucky if you get anything edible cold hard eggs o er cooked bacon, we wait 30 mins for eggs and there was a lot waiting so gave up, tried to talk to staff waste of time poor food hygiene cross contamination.

Unfortunately the chef burnt his self so no breakfast on first day. Evening meal found very expensive and it was very well done some items burnt. Breakfast 7out of Ten. Staff friendly rooms ok for old building

Great comfortable room, easy check in , lovely breakfast

Advertised air-conditioning which was the whole point of me booking here, it doesn't have any and the room was like an oven. Bathroom door was stuck so you couldn't open or close it which was embarrassing while using it when sharing the room. Breakfast was awful, raw sausages, thick lumpy porridge and brown mouldy grapes was the choice, alot of people were complaining. And no welcome pack or what to do in event of fire or anything. Dreadful place
