The Vines Hotel

Room was nice, clean, staff very helpful and friendly but our group of 7 could not get a decent dinner there, first due to fryer failure, then due to no food for many of the dishes, which was shame. It has a lovely dining room and would be a nice place when working. Driveways are full of potholes which is unfortunate.

Location. Shower water could have been warmer & better pressure. Plenty of space in room. Appreciated the fan . Friendly staff. Couldn’t understand the pub closed midday when there were plenty of guests.

The location was good as it was near to the venue. Lovely village pub. Pub wasn’t open till 17:00, so after breakfast the only facilities you had was in your room. Kept running out of stock at breakfast and behind the bar.

Friendly staff. Our room was a little tied just need a bit of tlc in the bathroom area but was clean. Comfy bed . Could hear noise from the bedroom next door but think that was just inconsiderate people banging suitcases against the wall. Breakfast was good and a great choice. Sadly the only downfall was we had no hot water on the 1st morning. Plenty of free parking

Booked based on previous reviews but was disappointed to find out that kitchen was closed so no restaurant available. Only option was takeaway food. Room was fine but noisy as my room was next to a very loud boiler !!

The room and bed were very clean, unfortunately the stairwell and dining area carpets have seen better days. There were no bath towels in the room, just one of those things and we could have probably got these from reception but by that time we were dressed and decided not to shower until we got home. Breakfast was good. The main problem was that we returned to the hotel at 10pm on an August Saturday night looking forward to a night cap to find the bar deserted and locked up. Very disappointing! There are no food served in the evenings at the moment.

Beautiful place, room was lovely and had everything you could need. No evening chef (which we knew about before arrival) - had a great meal at Dolce Vita in Catterton. Bed was comfy, shower was a bit "trickly". Breakfast was good and staff were so friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

Really disappointed to have arrived at the hotel to be told the restaurant and bar are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is not advertised!! The reason I booked this hotel was for the facilities available and after a busy day in the area the plan was to have dinner in the hotel’s restaurant/bar. Instead we were told they were shut and I could order dinner using ‘Just eat’. There is nowhere close by to eat so had to travel to nearest restaurant to get dinner. I would not have booked this hotel had I known the bar and restaurant would be closed. They should not be claiming they have these facilities and then on arrival tell you they are shut.

Clean rooms furnished and decorated to good standard. All staff pleasant, friendly and welcoming. Not much choice on the evening meal menu. Breakfast cooked to order was fabulous.

All I can say is there classed as 4 star but i wouldn't award 1, when booking you are lead to believe you are staying in a pretty 4star building covered in pretty vines what you get is a grotty fausty motel room out the back, dirty, smelly & ugly, grotty wetroom, no hot water, broken dirty chair at the dressing table, so dicing with death if you risk trying to sit on it, noisy fan in the bathroom, bed uncomfortable & you roll into the middle, carpets stained & curtains hanging from broken hooks......good full English but 1st coffee extremely weak, booked for a romantic stay & a friend's wedding & spent an entire evening trying to find somewhere else to stay, put a dampener on what was a special weekend !

Our bathroom had no shelves to put our toiletries on, no hook to hang our towels on, no changing of towels within our stay, our room wasn't cleaned, shower handle control keep coming off, breakfast was limited didn't have an alternative option for allergens and intolerances we paid for three nights but only stayed for two we just weren't happy.

Really friendly welcome and the location was convenient for Brize Norton. Unfortunately there were a couple of dead woodlice in the room and the shower did not function well at all.

Upon arrival the receptionist looked straight through us and was very unwelcoming. Couldn't be bothered to show us where we were staying and just said around the back room 104. The room was disgusting with dust everywhere, filthy walls, mold in the bathroom and dirty stains on the furniture. People used the ahower above us and then the room began to smell of sewage and was so bad we just up and left. Couldn't be bothered to complain as the place just felt like a drop in center with shouting coming from the rear of the property. Wouldn't recommend to anyone, please please save your money and do not get as disappointed as we were. Very sad end to celebrating our daughters 2nd birthday. Absolute joke saying it has 3 1/2 stars

Difficult to rate. Staff were lovely and really helpful. Main house was decorated nicely and I understand rooms in house have been refurbished. We were in the annex. Room was very tired, dirty and carpet stained. Bed was so hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was a wet room. There was no where to put or hang anything. When we had a shower everything (wash bags etc) got soaked. Cleaner did not replenish coffee etc or even toilet roll so had to ask for more. We were on the ground floor and we would come back from being out to find all the windows wide open with our belongings at risk. Breakfast was ok but you had to order cooked food by 8.45 which is quite early. Evening is just a snack bar no proper cooked dinners. Left a night early. As I say lovely people but just not quite getting right at the mo. Hopefully will improve with time.

Hotel is nice enough but needs a good general clean, like the rug in the restaurant area, the room was very tired looking. Could do with a bit of art or something on the walls in the rooms and restaurant so it isn’t so dreary. When we arrived to check in we were given the key to one of the ground floor family annex rooms, got there only to find other peoples possessions were in the room. We were quickly switched to another room so it was resolved instantly. However the room was very tired, one bed lamp missing a shade and bulb and there was an old very dried banana down the side of the single bed. Breakfast was nice but a bit meagre. All in all didn’t quite feel worth the price but I guess the location has a big impact on that. We were only staying for one night but I wouldn’t have booked more than that here.

Unfortunately the room we had was unclean and had a mildew smell. When checking in the girl was serving at the bar and was really uninterested. No food when was available when we went for dinner and I was told we could order in and eat in our room. It appears the restaurant is just for show. When checking out I was told to just leave the key on the bar. Overall a really poor guest experience.

Damp smell in the bedroom and bathroom

The hotel was fine overall. The hotel and the room needed some refurbishment as it is very tired. The room was generally fine. Bathroom was very tired and the shower was very difficult to operate due to its age and condition. Overall, the staff were great and we had no issues

When travelling with my 90 year old mum it can be difficult to find hotels/rooms which cater for people with limited mobility. The vines offers room on ground level with walk-in showers. Parking on doorstep.

Good breakfast on first morning. Not so good on second morning (BH) - no vegetarian sausages and no pastries on this day. But the cooked breakfast was good overall and the fresh fruit was nice. Liked the fact we had a fridge in our room, but it was too hot to sleep well despite turning off the radiator and keeping the window wide open.

The room we stayed in was tiny. There was a rack to the side of the bed with space to hang clothes and put luggage, but the space between the base of the rack and the bed was only about 8 inches. The drawers at the bottom of the rack could not open all the way, and there was nowhere else in the room to store anything. There were lamps on both bedside tables, but no outlet on one side, so one was useless, and there was nowhere to put it out of the way. The bathroom is fairly newly redone, but the shower has no niche or ledge to put soap or shampoo (and there are no dispensers). Breakfast. The room is large and impersonal. The drip coffee, boxed cereals, and supermarket sliced bread on offer are reminiscent of a cheap American motel. There is no menu for a cooked breakfast, but you can make modifications to the full English. I would never stay here again. There are similarly priced places with bigger rooms, better breakfast, and the option to have dinner there.

Not a hotel, room above a noisy pub. Which is fine but needs advertising as such

Loved being able to have dinner at the restaurant, have a few cocktails in the courtyard, and walk upstairs to our newly refurbished room. Loved our stay! The young man who worked the entire time of our stay made sure we had all of the amenities we needed. The breakfast was amazing. It was a great place to stay if you are wanting to visit Bampton and walk around the areas in which Downton Abbey was used for filming. We were also only 15-20 minutes from "Bourton on the Water" if you are wanting to stroll around the Cotswolds. I am a very picky traveler. I don\'t usually trust places that are given a 3 star especially given the price. This is a great bargain for your dollar and they definitely earned a 3.5 from me. Our children stayed in one of the rooms out back. It was nice as well, but our room (inside) had been updated and redone. Thank you.

Close to briz norton runway literally at the end of the road. Close to cotswold wildlife park and farmers dog pub. Looking cotswold stone brick. Very lovely and friendly hosts Good breakfast selection continental and cooked. Saw deer, cows, horses and wild rabbits

Great stay, very freindly and down to earth chap who was looking after place all.on his own.

Had to call a phone number and stand outside for 15 minutes to check in. Room hadn’t been cleaned or sheets changed. I spoke to the maid and said I’ll be out for a few hours. Came back to the bed made but no clean towels and half drank bottles of water. No curtain on the shower. I didn’t know you could buy a TV that small.

Had a lovely one night stay for business purposes. The bar area had a fantastic feel of blended traditional pub with modern elements. Lovely open fire and WiFi. The menu for food was small which I like. Offering a smaller menu in my experience usually means better quality and that was my experience this time! The burger was lovely. I ordered desert but unfortunately had to leave for work purposes. I returned later and the bar staff had remembered I had paid and very kindly asked the kitchen to prepare my desert even though the kitchen had closed. The room was very comfortable with good facilities. Breakfast the next morning was also very well cooked. All staff I encountered were extremely friendly and helpful.

Because we booked with hotels.com there was confusion with the dates that we were expected as it was a day ahead. But the manager sorted it out and we got a very nice room as they had to juggle thing around.

Check in the woman seemed not interested! Then the room had dust behind the unit beside bed and the floor/carpet was wet late n evening people in the loft hatch and noise outside toom

Where do we start? Arrived Thursday around 5pm. Checked in, given room 4. Went upstairs, room hadn’t been cleaned or made up. Went downstairs, told staff, apology and advised a problem with housekeeping. Offered a drink while we waited - but charged! The room was roughly made up, obviously in a hurry. The next morning at breakfast we asked for 2 extra pillows, and clean towels. When we arrived back from our day out at about 9pm, the room had not been touched - no cleaning, no bed tidy, no clean towels, and no more pillows. As we were tired we made the best of the situation. Saturday breakfast started at 8.15, ordered cooked breakfast and waited, and waited, and waited. The restaurant was not particularly busy. 50 minutes later we had to go as our taxi had arrived - only having had a drink and some toast. Returned about 8pm, our room had not been touched again. Went to complain, spoke with another guest-her room hadn’t been cleaned for 2 days either. Spoke with staff who said would sort it out. They came to our door, we waited in the bar, and received complimentary hot drinks. 10 minutes later given our key back. Went to our room to discover just the the bed covers pulled up and clean towels placed on the bed. Went down again for more milk, extra loo rolls, and extra pillows. 1 pillow and 2 loo rolls arrived. Not to mention the taped up fire/smoke alarm. One of the worst places we have stayed.

It said on the site that check in was from 3pm, we arrived at about 3.20pm and the pub was locked. Ringing the interactive doorbell after quite a wait, he asked what we wanted we said who were and that we had a reservation, he said oh I had better come down then. It took quite a white to find the booking. He gave us the key and told us where to find the room across the car park. On our way he overtook us saying he just needed to check something. Apparently there had been a leak in the adjoining room and the guy there had been allowed to keep some stuff in our room and use the bathroom. The guy proceeded to taking is stuff out of the room, very slowly whilst we waited. When he had finished my wife asked if the room and bathroom had been cleaned, he said he thought so and that he would have a look. Not being confident about this I said that we wanted to cancel. He then said oh I have another room, we again walked across the car park in the rain, the first room he showed us did not have a kettle, so he showed us another which we accepted. This room was okay but had such a small shower room about 1m wide max. We asked about diner and were told that they didn't take reservations, just walk-ins. We came to the bar about 6.30 ordered a drink and then saw the menu which apart from "Nibbles" offered only Pizza or todays special Chicken curry, not feeling like either we drove out for dinner. Breakfast was good, but yogurts looked curdled, although the sell by dates 3 months ahead.

There was one young man doing his best to do everything from breakfast to running the bar till closing time

We loved being near Bampton and the Downton Abbey sights. Breakfast was excellent. It's a little "out in the country" and Bampton is a fairly small town, in terms of shopping or dining options.

We had a fatastic stay here at the Vines, lovely staff and in a perfect location if you want to explore the Burford garden center, the best garden centre i have ever been to.

Our room was basic, but clean, comfortable and quiet. Very good breakfast. Lovely, helpful staff. Excellent location for exploring Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds.

Lovely location, just outside Burford. Propoerty was under new management, who are friendly, helpful and working on improvements. There is no elevattor at this location, which can be a little challenging with large amounts or havy luggage. Limited food selection, but this may have been due to renovations.

The superior room above the pub/restaurant was very clean,room 1 was spacious and bed was very comfortable. Full English Breakfast was excellent and service was fantastic. Bar service is also good and you can sit inside comfortably or sit outside in the garden,it’s a Lovely location in the Cotswolds will definitely visit again.
