We stayed at The Boathouse & Rooms in Chester for one night and really enjoyed our visit. The bed was a good size, the TV decent, and there was plenty of storage. The bathroom was modern and well-kept too. If I had to pick faults, the WiFi was very slow – my 5G connection worked far better – and a lot of the TV channels didn’t seem to load. It was also a little noisy at times when other guests used the bathroom taps or toilets, but that’s to be expected in an older building. We had drinks outside on the terrace by the river, which was lovely even in October. The private huts are a great idea, though most of the heat lamps could do with a fix. Breakfast in the restaurant the next morning was excellent – everything tasted fresh and well-cooked, and the service from all the staff was friendly and efficient. Overall, it’s a charming place in a great location with plenty of character. A few small tweaks and it would be near perfect.

We chose the Boathouse because of the location, which was excellent and because they allow dogs and because they advertise that they have Tesla charge points. The pub was very dog-friendly and the staff were all pleasant and helpful. The most negative aspect was that the charge points weren't working and this had clearly been the case for some weeks. I understand that the pub don't own the charge points, but they are a selling point for the pub and are still being advertised. The room was generally fine, the bed was comfortable, but we were disturbed multiple times through the night by loud mechanical noises, from the bathroom.

Friendly staff and good food, but service at dinner and breakfast a little slow. Signage for guest check-in is poor and confusing. Bedroom was small, but ok for one night and bathroom had good amenities and powerful shower. Overall cleanliness needs attention however the location was perfect for a riverside stay with easy walking to the city's main attractions

What a lovely place to stay. Right on the river, and close to town and park. Make sure you take Dee Lane to get to the hotel as GPS will take you to a blocked road.

Beautiful stay.Rooms spacious, food lovely and staff couldn’t have been more helpful.Only point I would make is parking bit of a nightmare.Only small amount of spaces for hotel guests and also anyone else just using pub.We arrived with someone in a wheelchair and not a space, only one disabled space which was used.Luckily I advised a staff member and she told us to park outside the room mum would be in until a space became free which was ideal.Apart from that a lovely weekend away

Room and food good/OK. Staff and Service VERY good. Riverside location and floating deck add touch of perfection. Uphill walk through Grosvenor Park to city centre less than 15 minutes. We’ll return on our next visit.

Our room and the dining area & bar were lovely, really nicely decorated, spotless clean, with very friendly and welcoming staff. (My only niggle was the mirror in the darkest part of the room isn’t ideal and the area at the back of the bedrooms a lot of litter which spoils the otherwise beautiful location and property.) Nice quiet location with excellent parking and food delicious.

Wonderful stay! Staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly and polite (particularly Sally who welcomed us on arrival and made us feel completely at home) We had lunch while we waited for our room, which was very nice. The room was clean, bar some thick dust above headboard and some specks and dust on the floor in the bathroom and directly through the door and the cushion on the chair had a broken zip which needed attention. Other than that the room was cleaned to a good standard and on our second night was refreshed. A wider variety of teas and coffees would have improved the room further. A lovely location, very quiet and a comfortable bed and good large shower. Overall a wonderful stay.

The only minor issues were the duvet cover had a dirty mark on it,which staff immediately changed for us. The loo-roll was loose but this didnt present a problem. All staff friendly,helpful & courteous. Excellent breakfeast ,exceptional value.

The hotel is very attractive set next to the river Dee & in walking distance of the city centre. The staff were extremely friendly, professional & helpful. The restaurant & bar areas were very clean, well set out & comfortable the food was delicious. The bedroom we stayed in was set out very well, with a view of the river. Unfortunately, the bedroom was dirty & dusty. The wall-lights were loose & dusty. The en-suite bathroom was also very dirty & dusty the toilet roll holder was broken & the shower soap holder was missing. This was a let down to our stay. A deep clean more checks by management are needed to ensure it’s at its best for future customers or more conscientious cleaning staff are employed.

Spotless bar, restaurant and room, with very friendly and helpful staff, plus great views of the river and quiet location within a short walk into the centre of Chester. The walk into Chester may not be suitable for some people however as it is quite a steep walk from the river, but there are nice walks along the river.

Only issues except the corridor outside our room hadnt seen a hoover for a while, although our was perfectly clean. And one side of our matteress had collapsed, resulting in 2 rather uncomfortable nights sleep

Room number 1 very big,overall cleanliness good bathroom bit grubby around shower,black mould.Restaurant nice,breakfast Saturday morning really good and staff fantastic.Sunday morning,tables not cleared,staff very slow had to keep asking for butter and pot of tea wasn't busy but kept waiting.Good overall would stay again as lovely location and quick walk into Chester.

What a perfect spot to stay when visiting Chester. Wonderful riverside location, easy access to the city wall, centre and park. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Food was great at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The room was comfortable and clean (even though it overlooked the car park, there wasn't an issue with noise). If anything could be criticised - it would be the fact the rooms are south facing and have full length glass (meaning they do get warm). A fan was supplied. If we go to Chester again, we would certainly book another stay here.

On Expedia there was information to contact the property and request parking. I did so via Expedia messaging. Alas, no one responded. It worked out OK, but it would've been nice to know things ahead of time. Separate to that, the TV in the room turned on, but had no available channels, so it wasn't usable.

Modern and clean, free parking was a bonus. I didn't realise the rooms don’t have a view of the water, just the car park and the back of the bar/restaurant. Ground floor rooms were straight onto the car park and pathway, and with floor to ceiling windows there was little privacy as so we needed to keep the curtain closed, which limited natural light. It also meant people were constantly walking past, pulling suitcases, or getting in and out of their vehicles so there was a lot of noise. Really disappointed, the pictures don't make it obvious. Also the lighting in our room flickered. The radiator had a bright blue control panel that we couldn't turn off, so had to cover it (which didn't seem safe). A lot of noise from folks in other rooms using their bathrooms and dragging chairs on the floor. I really wanted to enjoy the stay; the bed was huge and room was well decorated and appointed, but it felt like a nicely decorated motel with how close you are to the car park with no view whatsoever.

Great location. Brilliant room. Really quirky. Not really riverside views as promised instead more car park views. Giving motel vibes! Continental brekkie a bit naff with world's smallest croissants but my partner said full english was good. Excellent customer service and would return. Htrat for parking too as free parking until 3pm on day of departure.

Very nice place/facilities, the only negative was that room two which we occupied appeared to be next to some sort of pump which would go off every 15/20 mins all day and night. So if you are looking for a peaceful nights sleep do not book room two. If I had known beforehand I would of booked a different room or stayed elsewhere.

I would love to give this property top marks and if my wife and i had stayed any time but during a heatwave I am sure that would be the case. The bad first, the room we were in was sweltering could not sleep could not even sit for long in the day. The good, great room and en suite. Restaurant and bar really good, with riverside seating. Staff excellent. Food we had in the hotel was the best we had during our stay in Chester. What a shame the room was so so hot.

Friendly staff and good food, but service at dinner and breakfast a little slow. Signage for guest check-in is poor and confusing. Bedroom was small, but ok for one night and bathroom had good amenities and powerful shower. Overall cleanliness needs attention however the location was perfect for a riverside stay with easy walking to the city's main attractions

Staff were very helpful but I feel they needed more staff as tables outside were left dirty for a period of time. I did email the property twice regarding my birthday weekend no response on both occasions.

I stay here regularly and always have a very comfortable sleep, the rooms are lovely with plenty of space, adjustable heating and a rather confusing TV remote! water is hot, beds are comfy, bottles of water and tea of coffee in the room but sadly no decaffeinated coffee. Good breakfast, great choice, made fresh, though do object to the cleaner mopping the floor during breakfast service making the floor very slippery (a worry for someone who has just had recent hip replacements) I have mentioned this before but seems to be overlooked.

Very nice property with friendly staff. Location is a short walk to town where there are lots of bars, restaurants and shops. The majority of the rooms are in the building across the parking lot from the hotel restaurant and river. Partial view river views look across the parking lot and are quite limited but pleasant.

Great location with a small parking courtyard close to the center of Chester, and right on the River Our room was modern and clean. The A/C was a bonus as the humidity was high. The restaurant/bar has good coffee and breakfast options We enjoyed our stay.

The best kept secret in Chester. You step outside the gate and you’re straight onto the side of river. Such a peaceful place to stay, yet within a 5 minute walk of the park, town wall and the town centre.

Spotless bar, restaurant and room, with very friendly and helpful staff, plus great views of the river and quiet location within a short walk into the centre of Chester. The walk into Chester may not be suitable for some people however as it is quite a steep walk from the river, but there are nice walks along the river.

We stayed at The Boathouse & Rooms in Chester for one night and really enjoyed our visit. Parking was simple in the little courtyard (we arrived around 4:30pm on a Saturday) and check-in was quick and easy. We stayed in Room 11, which was spacious, spotless and comfortably warm. The bed was a good size, the TV decent, and there was plenty of storage. The bathroom was modern and well-kept too. If I had to pick faults, the WiFi was very slow – my 5G connection worked far better – and a lot of the TV channels didn’t seem to load. It was also a little noisy at times when other guests used the bathroom taps or toilets, but that’s to be expected in an older building. We had drinks outside on the terrace by the river, which was lovely even in October. The private huts are a great idea, though most of the heat lamps could do with a fix. Breakfast in the restaurant the next morning was excellent – everything tasted fresh and well-cooked, and the service from all the staff was friendly and efficient. Overall, it’s a charming place in a great location with plenty of character. A few small tweaks and it would be near perfect.

The Boathouse is the best hotel in Chester. Great location on the River Dee. Easy free parking right outside our room. Its only a 5 minute walk into Chester if you walk through the park at the rear of the buildings. All staff were very curtious, friendly and customer focused. Our food was excellent. We ate in the Boathouse on both nights that we stayed. Breakfast was the best we have ever had in many years in staying in various hotels. We visit around 4 times per year in all seasons. Weve already booked to return during the Christmas Markets. Looking forward to the forthcoming refurbishment of the Boathouse. This will make it even more attractive.

From the moment we checked in staff were exceptional, friendly and welcoming. The room was excellent. Everything you needed and so comfortable with brilliantly thought out decor. We ate in restaurant for an evening meal and a breakfast and again brilliant. Weather was wonderful so we made great use of outside floating beer garden. We liked it so much we are going to re-book for Christmas time. One last thing, the wallpaper in Ladies is brilliant

right down on the the river was excellent and the accomodation was quiet and clean [toilet roll holder was falling off the wall ]the lighting was nice but it was too dim to take a shave.The food was typical bar fare and was ok.Breakfast was a bit chaotic[the staff] and if you arrived in approx. the last 45 mins. a lot of the food was gone and was not replaced, i.e. fruit ,yogurt and on our 1st morning coffee from the cafetiere.All in all i would give our stay 8 out of 10.

Lovely location by the river with easy access to the city center via the old city walls. Comfortable room, very clean.The boat house serves a tasty breakfast to order and serves well presented range of food in the evenings at a reasonable price. The bar serves decent real ale. Amazing location and super helpful and friendly staff. TV only had 9 usual channels, but, we weren't in the room enough to watch TV. The rooms are fantastic and the beds are really comfortable, a diem side is the noise from adjacent rooms when they use their taps and shower. Breakfast is amazing and you really couldn't ask for a nicer place to have a drink and evening meal. I woukd give it 8.5 or 9 out of 10,it was everything you could ad for, just a shame about the tv and water noise

Lovely location, nice room. Lots of plusses. Shower great, bed huge, sympathetically decorated to fit the riverside location. Food great and reasonably priced. A couple of adjustments would have made me give 5 stars. TV not connected to Internet, limited choice of channels and unable to plug in fire stick etc. Room very warm, a better fan would have helped this considerably. Some of the menus were quite sticky, Staff were clearly cleaning tables but a tiny bit more attention to detail would be useful. Still had a great stay and would definitely return.
