2 blocks to Subway 3.5 blocks to Whitehouse Clean room. No fridge or microwave. Room very minimal. Must goto basement for ice which had roaches running around. Drink machine unplugged. Room was clean, updated bathroom. Best thing was cheap room very close to National Mall.

The hotel is centrally located. It's a small, no frills hotel but the room was perfectly fine and even had a pretty spacious bathroom. There is a certain "old vibe" charm to the hotel. The oddest part was having to lug my suitcase to the reception since there was no ramp down the stairs from the entrance, but there was an elevator to the floors.

Front door was not working correctly so it was a mission to get in a few times. Front desk didn't really explain much. Said my room number out loud thankfully no one else was in the main lobby. etc....

No hotel parking sad

Great minimal room in a convenient location. Coffee, tea and microwave in yhe lobby. It would be nice if they would consider adding a cube fridge to yhe rooms. Rooms are small- nondrawers to put away clothes- historic building close to bus, metro museums, etc.

7or 8 steps down to the lobby. No ramp to help with luggage. Only one ice machine in the basement. Employees friendly, the overnight clerk was very good and helped us with our luggage at checkout. Only one working elevator. Location good, within 30 minutes walking distance to White House, Ford’s Theater. Bed not comfortable but acceptable. Good price, we paid approximately $600 for 6 nights. Don’t know if we would stay there again but maybe.

There is no refrigerator in the room, and the ice maker is broken. Other than that, the accommodation was cheap, and I'm very satisfied.

This is a cool older hotel. It has some quirks, but lots of charm. One issue in the 7th floor bathroom: There's not a separate light from the noisy fan. It makes it difficult to listen to the TV news while you're getting ready in the morning. Small things. But the location is superb in downtown Washington. They also could use some complimentary coffee downstairs.

The location is fantastic, as it is very close to the White House. It would be, however, much greater experience, if there is a coffee maker in a room. It was very inconvenient to go down to the 1st floor from the 9th floor to get muddy string coffee every morning.

The service is terrible. The bedsheets are not changed when I step into the room. The overall room condition is dirty.

This hotel is very old, and our room was pretty dirty (there was black mold all over the shower but they cleaned it upon request). However, it's in a great location.

My room was clean and comfortable. Perfect for my quick business trip to D.C. I was able to walk to my venue, so it was the perfect location. Close to many restaurants and a very safe area.

Someone's hair was on the shower flower - not a strand or two, but a clump. It is old-looking and feeling, no amenities to speak of (no coffee pot; no toothpaste available in the hotel). It is a pre-renovation age Motel 6 in the middle of downtown DC. Do Not Stay Here.

Very clean

The location is great. Loads of great restaurants nearby. Many international guests, which I enjoyed. Price was cheap (for downtown DC). Hotel is rundown and dirty. My first room was awful. Right across from the elevator that dinged loudly every time it stopped. Chain on door was broken, bathroom fan was deafening, only some lights and outlets work. After first night I asked for a different room. Much quieter and everything worked. Hotel was dirty everywhere. Some staff were great, some couldn’t be bothered. If it weren’t for the great location, the review would be a 1.

The hotel has bed bugs. And it is a terrible stay overall

Sheets.... mottled cream, I think they might have been white 6 yrs ago. Clearly stained. I had to change rooms due to hair dryer blew up. Blue electrical sparks, burned red hot orange, smoked, suddenly made metal grinding sound. Was barely able to unplug. 2nd room had bedbugs. Covered my body. Disgusting.Itching all over, even scalp. Exposed plumbing pipes in wall/floor.bedside lamp flickered, indicates an electrical short. This a dirty, health hazzard, firehazard dump.Bedbugs. What else matters? We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and the hotel was close to attraction sites.

A little noisy in the morning

I was in DC for business and I was basically just in and out of the hotel. This place accommodated that at a good rate and in the area I was doing business. The room was small but clean, ultimately all I needed.

Neat, old hotel with history. Room was small, but cozy. Our view was the building next door, 6 inches away. But that made for a quiet stay. The pillows were pretty bad though, very thin. We would stay again, but probably bring our own pillows.

The room had lots of charm and was unique, but the hotel (both common areas and the room) felt run down and it could use some modernization. It was unfortunate we couldn't turn off the bathroom fan while the light was on, it was incredibly loud and jarring in the middle of the night. The AC unit was effective, but also loud and made it difficult to sleep. Our keycard also stopped working a few times, but staff were great and always resolved it really quickly. In all, the staff were great, the room was clean, but the hotel as a whole could use some modernization and amenities.

This is an old hotel that is nicely updated. The bathroom had a rain shower which some people may like, but I prefer a normal shower head. Also, the fan comes on with the bathroom light and is LOUD...so loud that I used the mirror in the room to apply makeup because it couldn't stand the noise. Otherwise very nice. My first night was room 207 and I had no internet. I asked to be moved the second day and was then in room 507 where the internet worked fine. I appreciated the desk calling a cab for me. There was no breakfast.

The building is gorgeous. It's in a great area near the trains. The rooms are small but have everything you need. Would definitely stay again. My favorite hotel in DC.

Noisy air conditioning which was only 18 inches away from the bed. Internet was very slow. The location was good. Close to everything we wanted.

We needed last minute room for one night and the Architect delivered. We appreciated that the front desk staff was on duty 24 hours. Our room was spacious and clean, if sparse but did have a closet with safe and ironing board. Location is excellent - close to Metro station, buses, plenty of restaurants, etc

A great value business hotel right in the heart of Washington, D.C. I stayed here without meals while attending work at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The location was extremely convenient, the room was very comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

I arrived at 2am with my wife, exhausted feom a long day and long road trip. The check-in process was made chaotic after the front desk agent deliberately denied my reservation, claim that i did not have one, then claiming l was suppose to check-in before midnight, then claiming theirs nothing he can do, then i notice this giys eyes are red so he pretty much out of his mind and would like me to go with him, so i just called the cops to prepare a report of theft, when then all of a sudden has my reservation after an hour of jerking me around. Overall terrible front deak agent.

This is an older property that has been renovated, but is still quirky when it comes to some things. The room is clean, but the mattress is worn, and the pillows are very thin. There is coffee on the first floor but the vending was out of order. The have a TV guide for the channels but it does not match the Firestick on the TV. The staff when I asked for assistance, seemed bothered.

I forgot the name of the woman that checked me in but she was over the top courteous and polite. She made my stay here awesome. Next time I come to DC I will stay here!

The Architect fit my needs perfectly. Just a 3-minute walk from where I needed to be. Quiet, clean and safe. I want to especially thank front desk clerk Sunny for her assistance. I will likely stay at the Architect again. Thank you.

Joelle night desk guy was rude with zero personality. The morning team was great! Room was old and tiny but clean. Low price so to be expected. Good location!

This is an old building that is in a nice area. The lobby smells weird and the carpet is out of date but it is a good price and fine if you don't plan on hanging out in the hotel a lot. You can easily walk to the white house and there are restaurants around. It feels like a safe area as well.

It is no frills but is very, very clean. Close to a lot of food options. If you are not looking for a resort feel (free breakfast, coffee, etc.), this is the hotel for you!

We stayed here for an extended weekend. It was perfect location to McPherson metro/down town/dupont circle. Hotel was clean and quiet. Great little breakfast/lunch place around the corner called nerds and nibblers. Room was small but perfect for a couple. Highly recommend
