Started well, receptionist very helpful, and free parking if you can find a space (we did). Room small but OK, clean enough. But two things let it down. The noise from people walking through the courtyard in the evening was unbearable. We were expecting a bit of noise, and were out quite late ourselves, but there was shouting and chanting etc until the small hours. The room was very hot so we had to choose noise over heat and keep the window open (no aircon). The breakfast was very poor, I love a full English, and this was the first time I've ever left one. The service was non existent, no cold water, no hot water, no tea bags. And not just us, others were sending things back to be cooked or changed

Nice room and a very pleasant Pub. Parking was easy and ...free! Had drinks and snacks in the Pub,all of which were good. Nice place for a stop over.

Free car park but quite small and tight. Stayed here twice and got a space ok both times. Rooms are small and basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was from 7am and was excellent. Staff very friendly.

Not good for anyone with a disability, no ground floor rooms, no lift, too many steps up and down, even a high step up to the bathroom. No other room available.

In town, good location. Rooms and corridors dated-possibly due to the hotel been old and having planning restrictions. Car park can be tricky to get a space when busy.

Spot on for a quick overnight stay. Bang in the middle of this nice market town with the huge bonus of its own parking. Room was absolutely fine and breakfast was a bit of a bargain for both continental and cooked to order options. Had all the classic pub food available but was surrounded by restaurants and bars. Would definitely stay again if I return. Nice one!

Friendly staff. Very clean room. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was perfect. And half the price per room than the local Premier Inn! All in all a very enjoyable stay.

The welcome here is warm and genuine. The corridors are faded and in places smell a bit funny but the rooms are clean with lovely bedlinen, a proper wardrobe and two chairs- most hotels only provide one in standard rooms.. Bathroom was sparkling and spacious, but nowhere to put toiletries etc except on the sink or the tiny shelf below the mirror - not a big deal for one night, might get annoying for two or three. Good breakfast, large portions for cooked food. We were charged twice for the room but that may be a function of the app as the hotel only got one payment - they are looking into it for us. Once that's sorted out we will definitely stay there again.

We had a twin room which was not in the main building. The room was spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and the bathroom was very nice. Everything you would want. We didn't eat in the pub or have breakfast as we were going to an early afternoon event which was serving food. We did have a drink and were surprised at the price of the drinks. They were very reasonable. There was a Wetherspoons next door so maybe that was due to the competition. We were right in the centre of Hitchin, which is a lovely place. Some very nice shops and really interesting. We were there for 2 days and had a very enjoyable stay. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay.

Filthy room, came away with bites either from fleas I guess or bed bugs. Bathroom was very dirty, window ledges dirty, very dusty everywhere. Also noisy.

Staff were really friendly and helpful. Bedroom was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. It’s a town centre pub so consider the noise (especially at weekends) but you can’t avoid that and it didn’t bother me. Would definitely use again.

Very tired and in desperate need of an overhaul! Stained carpets, mould in the bathroom. Although the bedding was clean, no pillow protectors. Dirty stains on walls. Curtains not hung properly.

The staff are the best part of this hotel. The room was pleasant but the bathroom was musty and the shower tray was dirty. The public areas are nice enough but the corridors have ripped and stained carpets.

This is an old building and has some limitations on what it can do to improve. Rooms and corridors are in need of a refurb. Shower cubicle was tiny. Staff were good and the check in person on reception was very friendly and knowledgeable. Public areas nice and in a good location.

I have used this hotel many times for business visits. Its location is great. Free parking is great. The building is quirky and old and i like that. Dont mind if windows are bit dodgy or bathrooms bit tired. However i stayed 3 nights this time and there was no housekeeping at all despite the fact i put the sign on door asking them to clean it. No clean mugs left for coffee. The bath was not cleaned and there was no shower. So i couldnt use it after first night as it needed cleaning. There was no wifi in my room at all. The desk staff are nice when they are there. But they really need to address the housekeeping. I stay a few times a year but may now need to look elsewhere.

Room was quite tired and in need of an upgrade. Rooms small but to be expected for the age of the building. Plumbing needs attention as the pipe vibration at 0630 from another room showering at stupid a clock was a not needed wake up call.

I've found some good and some average rooms and service here on different occasions. The on site parking and location is great. But parts of this room were tatty, the curtains fell off when i opened them, i told reception who said theyd fix it for my 2nd night, but didn't. No spoons for tea/coffee each day, but plenty tea/coffee/milk and good kettle in room. Very noisy pidgeons outside this room and the banging of pots and pans very early in the morning, combined with no curtain, dod not provide for a good night's sleep.

Stayed for one night - the hotel is in an excellent position and the breakfast was nice - however the room was really tired and the shower room well needed attention smelt musty and the shower is way to small and I’m not big - a finally positive was the bed was comfortable although not big enough if you are over 5ft8.

We were attending a reunion dinner in Hitchin and did not want to be driving home late so we arranged to stay in town. We were therefore only staying for sleep and breakfast. The beds themselves were comfortable but the radiator in the room was not working which made for a cold night, especially as the windows were not double glazed. Breakfast was included and was excellent, with any combinaton of buffet and cooked items.

The staff Sean, Monika and Erin were exceptional. They were friendly, personable, accommodating, attentive and polite. The room was clean and spacious. The hotel menu had a good variety and the food was excellent. It was a great place to stay!

. 2 night stop . Lovely historic old Coaching Inn , however , if it could go wrong it did . Room was actually 30 metres away from the Inn . No wifi but a noisey plant room adjacent to keep me company all through the night 1st night no heating , 1st breakfast disorganised , 2nd night, no hot water , I'm not Scandinavian so icy cold showers aren't my thing - then no power or lights as workmen were on site and had cut the power. Apologies were made and promises that the manager would contact me to mske amends .. still waiting .

The whole building need materials repaired or replaced toilet don’t flush properly shower not good bed too small the floor in the room uneven we were there for a reunion the organiser booked a table for 12 people for evening meal and the organiser checked to remind hotel manager on three separate weeks coming up to the day of the stay than when the day came the organiser checked again about the booking for the table and the manager said they never received a booking for the table so the organiser had to find something else for the meal so the hotel closed the bar at six pm so it was a poor even alround

Had very comfortable and affordable stay whilst visiting family in Hitchin. Would definitely consider returning. All staff were very helpful. Left a couple of items in the room on leaving and these were cheerfully found and kept on reception for pick up.
Had very comfortable and affordable stay whilst visiting family in Hitchin. Would definitely consider returning. All staff were very helpful. Left a couple of items in the room on leaving and these were cheerfully found and kept on reception for pick up.

Greeting was okay, I asked for my invoice to be emailed to me and at time of writing (over 24 hours after arrival) still not received. I was in room 3 on ground floor, bed was comfortable, desk to work at in room and en-suite was okay. Window in en-suite was open but too high up to be closed. In morning when I got in shower there was no hot water from shower. The sink had hot water. When I told staff on leaving about the lack of hot water from shower, he did not seem that interested or bothered. Lots of places in High Street to go and eat at. Will not stay here again.

Staff were really friendly and helpful. Bedroom was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. It’s a town centre pub so consider the noise (especially at weekends) but you can’t avoid that and it didn’t bother me. Would definitely use again.

Right in the middle of Hitchin. Convenient location to train station and public transport, great spot for local restaurants and pubs. Super clean rooms. There was construction going on outside the building at the time of my stay. So overall cleanliness was great. Very friendly staff. Overall excellent.

Spot on for a quick overnight stay. Bang in the middle of this nice market town with the huge bonus of its own parking. Room was absolutely fine and breakfast was a bit of a bargain for both continental and cooked to order options. Had all the classic pub food available but was surrounded by restaurants and bars. Would definitely stay again if I return. Nice one!

The Sun was generally tired but clean and staff were polite. Our issue was the nightclub next to the hotel our room overlooked Sun Street were taxis and picks up were happening along with large crowds of rowdy nightclub individuals at one point 50 plus of them right below our room. Noise went on until 2.15am Nightmare night of sleep.

The staff Sean, Monika and Erin were exceptional. They were friendly, personable, accommodating, attentive and polite. The room was clean and spacious. The hotel menu had a good variety and the food was excellent. It was a great place to stay!

Started well, receptionist very helpful, and free parking if you can find a space (we did). Room small but OK, clean enough. But two things let it down. The noise from people walking through the courtyard in the evening was unbearable. We were expecting a bit of noise, and were out quite late ourselves, but there was shouting and chanting etc until the small hours. The room was very hot so we had to choose noise over heat and keep the window open (no aircon). The breakfast was very poor, I love a full English, and this was the first time I've ever left one. The service was non existent, no cold water, no hot water, no tea bags. And not just us, others were sending things back to be cooked or changed

Free car park but quite small and tight. Stayed here twice and got a space ok both times. Rooms are small and basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was from 7am and was excellent. Staff very friendly.

The welcome here is warm and genuine. The corridors are faded and in places smell a bit funny but the rooms are clean with lovely bedlinen, a proper wardrobe and two chairs- most hotels only provide one in standard rooms.. Bathroom was sparkling and spacious, but nowhere to put toiletries etc except on the sink or the tiny shelf below the mirror - not a big deal for one night, might get annoying for two or three. Good breakfast, large portions for cooked food. We were charged twice for the room but that may be a function of the app as the hotel only got one payment - they are looking into it for us. Once that's sorted out we will definitely stay there again.

We were attending a reunion dinner in Hitchin and did not want to be driving home late so we arranged to stay in town. We were therefore only staying for sleep and breakfast. The beds themselves were comfortable but the radiator in the room was not working which made for a cold night, especially as the windows were not double glazed. Breakfast was included and was excellent, with any combinaton of buffet and cooked items.

I was happy with the Sun hotel for the price I paid. It was relatively cheap and I thought the hotel was good value. It is a very old listed building and there are timbers that are hundreds of years old visible throughout. As a result of the age some of the floors and walls are uneven but this adds to the character. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was tasty.

This was a real mixed bag of a stay. On one hand, the room was boiling hot and simply couldn’t be cooled down. It was also very noisy- overlooking a narrow street that revellers made their way down until very late (it was a Weds night). On the other, the staff were great and the breakfast was absolutely fantastic.

Old charming building, which is quirky but this building needs serious investment and updating. Our room was up some steep steps and the room just left me feeling anxious. The bed was a small double and all looked a bit dated. The bath is also blocked so you end up standing in a bowl of water as you shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful and genuinely wanted to help, you should value them more. This could be a fantastic hotel but currently falls short of what I would expect for the money.
