The Chicago Hotel Collection River North

Room was smaller than expected. No breakfast, serverd daily like the booking cite states also no pool. I wouldn't recommend staying here for a long stays or for small children especially if you plan on using amenities that most hotels have ie breakfast, pools, game room etc

The bed was not made. The cost was very high given the low quality. The costs are hidden and did not appear high but they charge “processing fees” and it is $41/night to park the car under the train trestle on a dirt road. The gym facility does not work (two stationary bikes in a basement).

I stayed here when it was Field House Jones back in 2018 and we loved it. This time around though- we were not happy with the stay and will not be back. First-- the building is open but the restaurant and coffee shop are still under renovation so that was a bummer. It really affects the liveliness. That was my first impression. 2nd- with the facility fees I would expect improvements but it was quite the opposite. The peloton bikes are pushed in a corner behind stacked tables. The sand shuffle board is not functioning. There is zero staff from 2am-10:30am which was challenging when there were issues. Next, we DID have to change rooms because the pipes in the exposed ceiling were very loud. They made a grinding noise all night effecting everyone\'s sleep. In the building you can hear the train but it\'s a low rumble and didn\'t bother anyone. When I addressed it the next day the response was "those are pipes and we can\'t do anything about that". They did provide a new room and the noise was gone in that room upstairs. Parking more than doubled from when it was Field House. Last, and probably the most disruptive of all, young adults/teens were up yelling in the hallway ALL night (and I do mean ALL night). They were consistently loud until 6am. It was horrendous. And with no hotel staff present it goes totally unaddressed. Bottom line-- it IS cheap. It IS close to the L and walkable to Mich Ave and River North area but that\'s it. Wanted to like it but, couldn\'t.

This felt more like a hostel. Shared fridges in basement. Talked about breakfast but didn’t have that must only be for the other locations of hotel Chicago. The bed was hard and the L was right outside my second floor room window like 6 feet away. The bathroom toilet paper holder was broke and while it looked like it held the paper as soon as any pressure was applied. It fell apart. The staff was nice and helpful when they were at the front desk. I needed to talk to someone in the morning of my check out and no one was there nor did anyone show up in the 20 minutes I waited before having to leave for my meetings. There is an extra resort fee they attached that supposedly was for wifi, beverages (water and soda). And discounts at various touristy spots downtown. The fee was close to $100 a night plus parking. My parking was under the L. Where broken glass covered the ground. I’m lucky I haven’t gotten a flat tire since leaving. At least they had coffee. Well, 3 Kurigs for coffee. Overall very underwhelming and left me feeling like I was at a youth hostel instead of a hotel. At least I didn’t have to share a bathroom Oh and the police blocked off the. Kick in my last night so someone could film for a movie. That didn’t really cause any issues. Just the lights in the windows most of the night

This was a very good stay for the price we paid. Modern interior, good sizes rooms, AC worked very well, average hotel beds, close to the L. Parking is $42 per night which is expensive but it’s normal for a big city, but parking is under the train tracks and kinda confusing. Overall, I’d stay here again if the price was better than other options.

Beautifully decorated, unique, so cool! Would stay again. I wish they had offered a breakfast/more than coffee, but overall great spot.

River North is a good option if you are looking for a no frills but decent place to stay. The hotel has a cool vibe, but seems to be a ghost of its former self. While it was immaculately clean and the staff was friendly, the amenities were under stocked or failling apart. Looks like the site once had a coffee bar but not anymore. The place just felt empty. We had a room with a kitchenette but there was no dishes or flatware in the room. After a thorough search of the kitchen we were able to scrap together enough items to meet our needs. The pingpong paddles where broken, the Foosball table was failing apart and gym consisted of 2 broken down pelton bikes. Given that they charge you a resort fee, one would expect a little more effort. But our kids loves the bunkbeds and the spaceuous room gave them lots of room to get their wiggles out. So I recommend River North if you have a large but self sufficient group. Its just a few blocks from the L.

Our window had a great view...of the El train, which passed 15 feet away every few minutes. The not-optional $40 "amenity package" promises 4 free drinks a day, but the only drinks on offer were K-cup coffee.

First time the bed was not made clean, just threw out the trash. I don't know if the towels were changed or just folded. I just found a hotel like this, if it's cleaned everything should be cleaned, tidied up, like when you first entered, but this isn't Last night it was really noisy, there were people screaming which was really uncomfortable.

The room was nice and clean. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was excellent.

Unexpected fees at check in. Room is grungy and has a bad smell. Bed is dirty. Ick.

While staying here there was a roach in the bathroom. I have reached out to this proper multiple times. I have phots and videos that I attempted to share with this property. They have made no effort to return any of my calls, texts or emails. I would not recommend this property. Poor service and need’s exterminating.

Photos are misleading. Listed amenities were poor ... the building used to be a restaurant. Kitchen, restaurant, and bar still exist but are non functioning. The rooms are not stocked with any amenities. All amenities are downstairs and are not well maintained. Fixtures in rooms are broken and there was a horrible natural gas leak during our stay. Room is overpriced!!!! Parking is not included (additional $35/night), is open, and is located under the el train passage next to hotel. Train passage was not too disruptive, but we watched people digging through dumpsters next to parking from our hotel window. Additional fees for "activity discounts" are a scam. These activities are lower priced when purchased directly from the companies providing the activities. There has to be better priced and more reasonable options elsewhere.

There was ants all in my room. I couldn’t leave food out without worry of ants. There was never anyone at the desk for assistance.

The room was hot and stuffy and the A/C didn’t work. The walls are so thin that we (including our children) could hear people across the hall having sex. The tv remote barely worked. The bathroom door didn’t latch. The ice maker was broken. There was someone else’s water bottle under one of the mattresses. The person at the front desk was friendly upon arrival. The beds were comfortable.

Nice rooms, friendly staff. I'd stay here again. Some things in the room were super dusty, like the table lamp, but otherwise things were clean. The mattresses in my room were very firm.

The room was smaller than I expected but not too bad, especially since I was just there to sleep. The bed was soft and comfy, but the pillows could have been a bit nicer (but I'm a pillow snob, so take it with a grain of salt). I was so pleasantly surprised to discover the hotel towel FULLY WRAPPED AROUND MY VERY PLUS SIZED BODY. Could. Not. Believe. The room was right under the L but it wasn't super loud, I barely noticed it after a while. The walls are not very thick, however, and the ceilings are open to the pipes (industrial, not falling apart lol) and that's where the noise came from. And the light on the TV was soooooo bright that it was irritating as I tried to sleep. Overall, a good place for one night.

Good neighborhood, very trendy interior which is fun in common areas and the room. Well kept up, clean. The room needs more tables/a desk to set your stuff. If you are hyper sensitive to noise, this place is probably not the place for you. They have metal bed frames which can make noise if you are sleeping. The first room’s metal bed frame was terrible and we couldn’t sleep, but they quickly moved us to a room w a better bed frame that still made a little noise but we could sleep. I recommend the hotel just replacing all the metal bed frames with something else when they can. The hotel is 10 feet from the CTA train. They did a good job of insulating, but it still comes into the rooms on that side of the building as some white noise when the train goes by. We stayed here because of the location, lowest cost w good reviews at the time. That includes a required resort fee -$49 which is difficult to use as most of the discounts for meals, etc are not on-site. So basically you get 6 bottles of water a day and late check out for $50. Doesn’t feel worth it -bad optics just make it part of the room price w/ amenities included and no one would question you. The coffee bar/evening bar was shut down and front desk staff hours were limited-so it feels like they are short staffed-but not sure why. Mgmt practices just feel weird here. Overall a good stay and we would come back assuming they continue to be the lowest cost, cute hotel in a good location with good reviews. Not for everyone

Hotel felt very safe but the photos of the rooms are misleading. Our room was a shoebox with no microwave, safe, or mini fridge. Beds weren’t the greatest, you could feel the springs when you laid on them. There are also a LOT of fees for very little immenities.

Very noisy. On the top of noise from metro plumbing pipes makes noise i had twice during one night.

Hotel has youth-hostel like vibes, very close to the el and the river north neighborhood has lots to do, room was a little noisy at times with the hvac system, and you can hear other guests in the hall at times. There is a communal kitchen and lounge area, but the room itself could have used a mini fridge

The location is pretty good, the subway pass by the side of the building but the noise is not too loud to do it uncomfortable in the night when you sleep, me and my friends would like to stay again when we have the opportunity to came back to Chicago

Nice property, right on the train line. Parking was easy at the lot right next door. Rooms were very small, but worked well for just a place to crash for the night. Unique decor and secure entrance.

The hotel was very unique and creative but eh rooms are very tiny. no shelving in the bathroom. Bunk beds are to hard to get up and down for adults.

There with a friend for a concert - we wanted someplace with easy access to the L Train. This was definitely it! We were on the 2nd floor with a window right next to the tracks and could barely hear the train go by. Didn't hear any of our neighbors, and the staff was always helpful and friendly!

After receiving multiple confirmation emails/texts throughout the day, my husband, juvenile daughter and I arrive at the hotel only to be told that our reservation had been canceled. According to the desk clerk, this happens all of the time. He did offer to try to find us another hotel but we did our own research and booked elsewhere. However, this was on a friday evening and aside from the severe inconvenience, the new hotel cost us a lot more money. And I never once received an email/text advising us of the cancelation, nor have I heard a word afterwards. Barely an apology, and this is repeat behavior from this chain according to one of their own employees.

I stayed during the air and water show this year. The lady at the reception desk was extremely rude and slow. There was 2 guys in front of me. It took me 1hr 15 mins to get checked in. She offered me a king instead a queen, but when i got to the room it was just a king bed and not the double sofa bed i needed having 4 people in the room. She did get us switched to another room. At 1130 pm, after we got the baby to bed and finally getting some rest, we hear a pounding at the door. Several times on my walk to the door. This woke up my 8 month old. Anyways, it was the night shift guy working the front desk. He wanted to check and see if there was anyone in the room. This was the absolute worse experience i have ever had at a hotel in chicago. I will not be staying here again.

We showed up in the evening to be told that they had overbooked the hotel and did not have a room for us. It was not just us, the guests in front of us did not have a room, and two more guests behind us did not have a room. We had to find a room at 9 pm in Chicago and double the price.

The shared spaces were very nice and convenient. The rooms were clean and adequate amenities. The staff was super friendly and helpful.

No staff on property whatsoever. I was not able to even stay at this pre-pay hotel through Expedia. Don’t even try to stay here, the communication is absolutely horrible. They won’t even call or come down. They have to text you and then they don’t reply within a reasonable time and the location was not a safe area in any way, shape or form. This hotel chain doesn’t know how to run a hotel was never even able to speak with anybody and check in contacted another hotel and stay there. Looking forward to hopefully get reimbursed for my wasted time, money, and inability to even speak to a worker. Not recommended. It was memorable, just not in any way positive.

Not the most friendly staff, but decent place to stay and served its purpose for what we needed. Don’t understand the check-in process via text since when we arrived, essentially had to do the whole thing over again in-person. Also they couldn’t initially find my reservation. All and all, wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re in a pinch snd need a last minute place to stay.

Horrible Experience – Do Not Book This Hotel Through Expedia or Otherwise! I had an absolutely terrible experience with this hotel that I would never wish on anyone. I had already booked and received confirmation through Expedia, and when I showed up to check in late at night, I was told the hotel was sold out. No explanation, no accountability – just a cold apology at the counter and a dismissive attitude. They refused to honour the confirmed reservation, kicked me out in the middle of the night, and left me stranded with no alternatives. Every nearby hotel was also sold out. I was left with nowhere to go, no solution, and no help from the hotel staff who simply shrugged it off as if it wasn’t their problem. This kind of treatment is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. If you can’t trust a hotel to honour a confirmed booking, especially late at night, then what’s the point of booking in advance at all? Expedia should remove this hotel from their platform immediately. I highly urge everyone to stay away from this property – do NOT book this hotel, ever. It’s not worth the risk. They do not care about guests, even those with valid, prepaid reservations. You deserve better.

First, I typed in W Chestnut St. NAV took me to a factory. Called the hotel to get directions, a foreigner answered and told me i can't help you. Someone at the factory knew about the hotel and told me how to get there. You have tovtype in West instead of W. Upon arrival, no staff at check-in. Waited about 20 minutes, then started to look for her. She was downstairs with the cleaning personnel. When i asked about the check in person, she snapped at me and said the sign says be back in 15 minutes. She finally came up, asked about early check in, she said no. Can i park in your lot until i check in? No. Had to pay for street parking for two hours. Checked in later, asked where do i park? That will cost you an additional $100. No food, no room service, no safe box (which they did have) but you have to bring your own lock. No coffee machine in your room, you had to go to the basement for coffee. No tv guide. If you had an emergency during after-hours, you had to TEXT them the nature of the emergency. $620 for this? Totally disappointed with hotel and Orbitz for promoting this garbage hotel.

It was difficult to contact property earlier in the day. We wanted to just leave our bags inside until check in, but were unable to access building until past 12pm. Our flight landed at 7am. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. There were a lot of accommodations on their pamphlet. Just wish it was easier to access earlier in the day.

Great staff

I liked that it was different, minimal (which I consider good!), and that parking was nearby. Perfect for us as we were only spending one night and found it super convenient for our needs. It was comfortable, could NOT hear the el running by, clean, friendly staff. The only thing that I did not like was the mandatory package that was of no use at all to us. I wish they would reconsider that and make it an option instead. Other than that I worked out great for us.

Such a cool spot! Loved the industrial vibe of the building and the super cool decor. The room was clean, minimal, and simple—no frills, but honestly, nothing more was needed. As city people, we didn’t mind the train at all—actually thought it was pretty cool watching it go by our window. The staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating, and we loved being able to walk to nearby lounges and great places to eat and drink. Definitely recommend!

The Hotel was close to where we needed to be. It was easy to book in , especially as our journey to Chicago had been delayed, we were later than expected . The room was obviously part of a historical building and had been interestingly furnished, not getting rid of the historical features. It was quiet enough whilst we were there, even though the train track ran alongside. Plenty of different food type places to eat at and all within walking distance. This are was more pleasant than the affluent areas in this city. In general a good few days stay.

Basic room with no amenities or services. Queen bed comfortable, shower fine. I found the Guest benefits package a total waste of money, other than 6 daily drinks, had no use for the rest of the benefits. You cannot opt out. The front counter staff wasn’t too enthusiastic about telling you what it contained, use the QR code was the advice I got. $50/day. Mgmt needs to fix that as it seems to be just a way to get extra $$$. Main lobby has a good seating area and what looked like a bar with a decent coffee machine. but it was not in use. Looked like it had been that way for a while. Location is decent but I’d look for alternative accommodations next time. The hotel has the potential to be a cool bohemian place but it’s not yet there. Still reminds me of a hostel from my younger days.

Lovely property with unique decor and clean, spacious rooms. The staff was super friendly and I could safely walk to parking, shopping, work, and to get food. Sad the coffee bar in the lobby is closed permanently. But, they have a coffee bar downstairs thats open to guests which was fantastic. Definitely recommended for long stays where you want autonomy and solitude while working or visiting with no frills or busy lobby area. The basement is so cool and used to be a pool, which was my favoritie aesthetic. ❤️‍🔥

If you're looking to bring kids or friends for a bachelor party or whatever? This place is perfect. We stayed in the signature suite and provided all the room we needed. Parking is offered at $65 per day, but that's up to you. Room was clean and updated and just a comfortable stay. There is a coffee/bar in the front lobby, but that seems to be separate from the hotel as it was not open during our stay. Overall, pleasant experience.

The shower was wonderful, better than home. Very comfortable beds, next to the L, but still really quiet. The kitchen on the lower level was cooking show worthy, I could see having a family gathering there and being able to use the industrial kitchen with multiple sinks and ovens to prepare a family meal. Expedia marked it as a $70 fee due at property it's actually $49.95/night resort fee. We could not take advantage of the resort fee except the six free beverages since we only stayed one night. Use spot hero ahead of time if you want cheaper parking, many open lots around. Staff was friendly.
