This was an awesome stay. The facilities around the property, gardens, tennis court and seating areas were fabulous. The room was well set up and clean. Location is great. Breakfast was a great bonus including mini pastries, pancakes, toast, cereal and filter coffee.

There is no elevator but the staff is helpful and friendly and willing to assist with luggage. We did get asked to leave the bar area at 2145 while playing a board game quietly due to the need to turn the lights off so be aware things roll up early in Hanmer springs 😉

The rooms are well appointed . We did not eat there . If you struggle with stairs there is NO LIFT . The least the hotel could do is put a note at their reception to ask for help with luggage . I’m not sure how many rooms are on the ground floor. Surely a lift could be installed in this spacious hotel .

Bed was uncomfortable, poor lighting and dated. Bathroom was not cleaned properly and there was an old toothbrush jammed down one of the sinkholes that hadnt been removed. Hotel restaurant was pretty bad and over priced. Wont be dining there again.

Good value. The beds were very comfortable, the breakfast was good. The reception staff were excellent. The building is very dated inside and could do with a proper clean, there is a lingering musty smell throughout. The breakfast staff was fairly rude. There didn’t seem to be a/c in the bedrooms so it was very hot and clammy at night. However the price we paid was fair so I would stay again.

I should start with stating that we have stayed at this hotel 5 times. The location is amazing, walkable to everything. The staff is always excellent!! Even though they run short staffed and are busy. The property itself could use a major spruce up. The cleanliness and rooms and facilities has gone downhill since reopening a few years ago. It is hit or miss if you will get daily housekeeping, even with the sign left on the door. The carpets in rooms need a steam clean badly! The toilet seat was cracked and uncomfortable when using. Two small packets of instant coffee for two days stay and three people in the room. The included continental breakfast is really subpar, it shouldn’t be part of a package deal, it should just be included with the price of the room. We were given a welcome drink ticket on arrival, that was a nice touch.The grounds of the hotel however are meticulously maintained, whoever maintains the gardens needs a special mention!

The hotel is beautifully situated in the middle of the town in large grounds. Furnishings are old fashioned making the rooms feel rather dark. The hotel has a long history with interesting pictures on the walls illustrating its life as a post war hospital. We had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant and the continental breakfast was fine.

Beds were very soft, and perhaps starting to sag in the middle. This is an iconic hotel in Hanmer, but is very bland. Soft furnishing and perhaps some colour in the rooms would be good. The rooms just seam a little bland.

The breakfast provided was amazing, also how comfortable the beds were. I didn’t like how hot the room was and learning that no rooms had air-conditioning, very disappointing in this day and age. Very overpriced as a result.

Fantastic location in the middle of everything. The property surrounds are lovely. Like an old estate property. I arrived on a motorbike in the rain and the staff were so accommodating, letting me park it round the back undercover. Really nice staff. Rooms were great and had loads of space in the garden suite. Restaurant was friendly and personable considering the few staff there were dealing with a big crowd.

Great location. Some staff were lovely, others just doing their job, didn't really want to be there. No lift, had to lug bags upstairs, no offers of help. Noisy room due to luggage being dragged upstairs. Restaurant and staff fabulous

NB: we ended up at Edit just as a major storm warning was issued. The whole town was battered and power was out for 2.5 days. Edit has a backup generator, which powered the restaurant, shared spaces, heating etc. We were well catered for and staff put in extra hours to keep us comfortable. Roads were closed so fresh staff couldnt get in or out. Edit Hanmer went above and beyond during difficult times.

NB: we ended up at Edit just as a major storm warning was issued. The whole town was battered and power was out for 2.5 days. Staff were really helpful assisting my husband with disability issues. In that respect we were disappointed however that there was no lift to carry heavy luggage. The garden setting is lovely and quiet, set well off the street.

The bed was super comfy. But I didnt like that my room was extremely far away from the door/carpark. The room felt hidden and hard to get to. The staff had most their cleaning storage down where my room was and every time I walked past they never greeted me or smiled. Felt unfriendly.

We were not given the room that we booked and paid for. Management did not care just said sorry. It was like the broom cupboard. They shouldn't accept reservations if they are full . They need yo skill up on customer service. The breakfast waitress was rude to guests.

Initial impressions were quite good; location is central to all things within walking distance, the grounds are beautiful, parking was seamless. The real disappointment came around midnight. A group of four drunk individuals camped out in the central lobby directly across from the reception desk. They were loudly yelling, laughing, and overall obnoxious. I attempted calling the front desk to ask they intervene but no one answered. At around 1:15 am, not able to sleep I went out of my room to ask they keep it quiet and ideally go to their room. I was then threatened by one of the party that “I’ll whip you up bad”. I returned to my room, they did leave, but a night was wasted at this hotel. My poor review is based on asking in the morning if they have a night clerk, only to learn yes, and the day clerk was aware of an “unruly” group on the second floor. It was clear they knew who these people were, but did nothing as management to intervene at the expense of patrons who were expecting a nights rest. Horrible customer service. In the end I was not offered so much as an apology. If traveling to Hamner Springs, do the favor of staying elsewhere.

My poor review is based on asking in the morning if they have a night clerk, only to learn yes, and the day clerk was aware of an “unruly” group on the second floor. It was clear they knew who these people were, but did nothing as management to intervene at the expense of patrons who were expecting a nights rest. Horrible customer service. In the end I was not offered so much as an apology. If traveling to Hamner Springs, do the favor of staying elsewhere.

Fantastic location in the middle of everything. The property surrounds are lovely. Like an old estate property. I arrived on a motorbike in the rain and the staff were so accommodating, letting me park it round the back undercover. Really nice staff. Rooms were great and had loads of space in the garden suite. Restaurant was friendly and personable considering the few staff there were dealing with a big crowd.

Awesome stay at the Hanmer Springs Hotel. Staff were friendly. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Restaurant was fantastic. The pizza and pasta was second to none. Breakfast was also great. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Seen this hotel on last visit so decided to book a few nights on this visit. Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel as an elegant feel about it, the gardens and pool are lovely. As it was warm we ate ourside at the restaurant, we chose to eat in the hotel because its prices were competitive with what was on offer in town. The food was lovely, well cooked and well presented. Continental breakfast was a good start to the day. Our superior king room was spacious and overlooked the garden. We usually book apts but this change to a hotel was a lovely experience, would book again when in hanmer springs

Hotel going through a few upgrades which is great to see. The restaurant Isobel for dinner was amazing! Great food. Breakfast wasn’t as varied, only option was continental. Would have like to have more options for TV/movies in the room. However, it a great location and staff were very friendly.

We had a lovely stay. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the restaurant and being able to sit by the fireplace. Very comfortable bed and so close to all the shops and restaurants.

Travelling with a newborn had everything we needed. They had received our cot request and acknowledged at check-in, but wasn’t set up in the room, which is only a minor downside to what was overall a good experience. The breakfast is pancakes, pastries, fruit, cereal, juice, drinks and the price reflects the fact there’s no hot breakfast.

The staff are very friendly here. Got a couple of free drink vouchers which were appreciated, and you can enjoy that drink by the fire in the dining room. Be aware the hotel has no elevator (which is very inconvenient) and the rooms don’t have air conditioning/heatpump. You need a degree to figure out how to operate the heater in the room, and I didn’t find it very good. If you visit in winter, I suggest taking the blanket out of the waredrobe and putting it on your bed as soon as you arrive. The wafer thin duvet & sheet won’t keep you warm. The bathrooms are also very old style (the hotel has a new name but has not been “upgraded”). That said, I found the shower really good and lovely big fluffy bath sheet towels which were amazing.
