Good clean rooms on the stamp of premier inn/travelodge. Rooms in a building next to the pub. The pub itself was very nice inside. Next to a main road so some road noise. Breakfast was average.

I find the accommodation ideal for our needs. The rooms are in a separate building to the pub/restaurant so noise is minimal and facilities convenient. We've stayed here several times now and I'll keep coming back.

Convenient for our trip. 20 minute walk to the centre of Whitby. Accommodation spacious clean and away from pub area (Annex) so nice and quiet. Next to main road so some traffic noise but perfectly acceptable.

Convenient place to stay. Lovely pub next door with a children’s play area and the food was good. There’s a big sainsburys two minutes walk away with a bus stop to get into Whitby centre. Maybe the only thing that is missing in the room is that there is no fridge. Otherwise, great!

The room was clean and comfortable and very quiet even though the hotel was full. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Good security on the hotel block with 2 doors operated by key card. Just a little too far out of the centre to walk but a great base for Whitby and the surrounding area.

The advert for the hotel is totally misleading and I would never have booked such a room for myself and family especially considering the price paid.The location of the accommodation is actually on the site of a retail park and this included having views from the room looking onto Screwfix although you can also see the sea in the distance. It did not feel like a Whitby stay. The room itself was not in the pub as per the photo but in a bland / sad accommodation block next to the pub. The room was not the family room shown in the photo so it lacked an extra bed.We checked out at 7.30am but there were no clear instructions on what to do as there was no response to the intercom system. On a positive note the room was clean, had nice soap, a great hairdryer, pleasant and what appeared to be hardworking staff.

Check in delayed as porter had to go check if our rooms were occupied before handing us the room keys. Confusing as we were checking in at 7pm so not sure why they would have been occupied. Attention to detail needed as toothpaste on the back of the door so cleanliness not up to scratch and dust on top of toilet roll holder which is evident when your sat and have time to look. Might have been more attention if I’d taken the time to look

Very horrible stay in a small suffocative room saying family room; poor exhaust system toilet smell always surround in the room.It was a dirty room was not ready when we arrived; pets far was on the sofa bed..no phone in the room.staff named lora was talking very rude and agressive way..its not acceptable...over all very poor experiance first time in hotel stay..

Last minute decision to stay here and we weren’t disappointed. Friendly staff. Easy check in. Clean and comfortable room. Great breakfast. Roughly a half hour stroll (with kids) into town. Would definitely stay at Penny Hedge in the future.

The room was nice and roomy and was clean. Was a bit of a wait to check-in as staff were busy. I felt that the toilets in the restaurant area were in need of a refurbishment, the radiators were rusty and the hand dryers were also rusty. Just looked tired in the ladies. Breakfast was good but the coffee was awful. I overheard someone complain it was like water and someone came and just added more instant coffee to the jug. Thankfully I had decaffeinated from a sachet. Little things like good coffee make a difference. I would stay again as it's in a great place with nice views. Plus has a good restaurant for meals during the day and evening.

The hotel is well located and is in good condition and generally comfortable, however the double bed in our room was not comfortable as the mattress was very soft and my wife and I both had back ache the following morning and we didn’t sleep well. The second night my wife had to sleep in our son’s single bed as the mattress was firmer! My son had to sleep in the double with me! The bathroom and bedroom were clean and tidy and good sized. We had evening meals both nights of our stay, which were good and good value for money. We also had breakfast both mornings and enjoyed these and thought the price reasonable. Overall, a very enjoyable and pleasant stay, but please buy some firmer mattress for the double beds!

I was happy I chose this hotel. Very similar to a Premier Inn in layout and decor. I had a comfortable stay with no adverse noise in my room despite workmen nearby with what sounded like pneumatic drills when outside. Good sound proofing! Two minor criticisms, would be that the television was a little on the small side, and the toilet was a touch too close to the sink

The room needed drawers so we could actually unpack rather than having to have stopped on the floor. Very disappointing. Also there could have been a small side or 2 comfy chairs to sit in. The main door was very loud when people were going in and out, so kept us awake. There was disappointment at the bar when I tried to purchase a port. There wasn’t enough for a full measure once the barman had poured it. He asked the manager what could be done and he came back to say I could have it a full price even though it wasn’t a full measure. This was so sad, I asked if he could put it through at a reduced price but he said he couldn’t do this. This was such a waste as this would have been thorn away. Very unhappy.

We chose this as we hoped proximity to a nice pub would be a relaxing stop on a road trip. We got a mediocre room with staff that didn't seem to care and the pub was very poorly run. We wouldn't try a Marston's again.

Booked for a 3 nights stay as a family. Initial issues with the key card not working. This continued as the card had not been programmed for 3 night's. Room was ok (only 2 glasses and cups when the booking was for three). Room was tired (trim coming off in the bathroom). Booked and paid for breakfast for 3 days, but was only booked in for one day. Couldn't have breakfast on the last morning due to only one member of staff. Asked for a refund as we couldn't wait over half an hour. Still waiting for the refund to be paid. Needless to say won't be returning.

Good location to Sneaton Castle (5mins by car/taxi) pub was next door for evening meal & breakfast, Sainsbury’s and shops less than 5min walk. Check-in was easy although we were pay on the day the venue took the money 24hrs before. Staff were friendly at checkin to hotel and restaurant staff too, the bar not so much that we complained. At the end of the night paying the bill we selecting no tip but the machine is broken so ended up tipping £16 for bad service, they wouldn’t refund so I need to contact head office! Annoying! So warning to others.. Room was spacious but dated, soap dispenser was broken and the one in shower hanging on by a screw. We arrived early and the later was very friendly. We knew it was too early to check in, which was fine. When we came to check in, there was one man serving at the bar, told us he wouldn't be long (he was doing his best). So one of the chefs came out and checked us in. This morning, breakfast was ten minutes late opening and not everything was readily available. The price (which was a lot!!) we paid I expected far more.
We arrived early and the later was very friendly. We knew it was too early to check in, which was fine. When we came to check in, there was one man serving at the bar, told us he wouldn't be long (he was doing his best). So one of the chefs came out and checked us in. This morning, breakfast was ten minutes late opening and not everything was readily available. The price (which was a lot!!) we paid I expected far more.

After driving for 4 hours we arrived here . We went into the pub to check in and was told to go over to reception desk.We stood there for about 10 mins with staff just walking by us. In the end I asked a member of staff if somebody was on the desk , he was very rude and said “can’t you see we are busy.” We wouldn’t have minded if someone had just said we would be dealt with soon but staff were just walking by us . Apart from this we enjoyed our stay and and certain members of staff were very nice .

Really impressed by the whole experience. The room was spacious clean and comfortable. The bar/ restaurant was also very welcoming well stocked and comfortable. Also everyone who worked there were super friendly and helpful.

Staff very friendly. Walking distance to town. Parking easy. The person who sorted our room out for staying an extra few nights was very helpful in moving things about for us to stay.

The rooms, bar and food were all good. However when we arrived to check in, it was clear that the staff who should have been on reception, were not in place and it had been left to the other staff (who did the best they could) to check us in,as a number of staff had quit their jobs,

Penny Hedge is on the outskirts of Whitby. There is plenty of parking. Nearby is a small shopping complex. The rooms are large, clean and well equipped. The pub provides a good range of tasty, good value meals, served by friendly staff.

Very smart and clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. parking was great. It's a bit of a walk into Whitby mostly because (like the whole area) it is a bit hilly. It is walkable though or just a short car / taxi / bus ride. I would happilly recommend. Parking is okay in Whitby but will cost up to £10 for the day.

Great location as it was close to everything we wanted for our walking weekend. Comfortable accommodation, clean and tidy with daily house keeping if required. Staff at Penny Hedge are all really friendly and the service was fantastic. Good choice of food for breakfast; and enjoyed three evening meals during our stay.

Convenient for our trip. 20 minute walk to the centre of Whitby. Accommodation spacious clean and away from pub area (Annex) so nice and quiet. Next to main road so some traffic noise but perfectly acceptable.

Parking is plentiful and free, check-in is simple and efficient. Room size is adequate and bed was comfortable and all clean. Bathroom sink in room 23 conflicts with toilet space. Breakfast is good value but please include machine dispensed coffee as at the Spread Eagle, as the percolated coffee is not good. All staff were pleasant and helpful..

The advert for the hotel is totally misleading and I would never have booked such a room for myself and family especially considering the price paid.The location of the accommodation is actually on the site of a retail park and this included having views from the room looking onto Screwfix although you can also see the sea in the distance. It did not feel like a Whitby stay. The room itself was not in the pub as per the photo but in a bland / sad accommodation block next to the pub. The room was not the family room shown in the photo so it lacked an extra bed.We checked out at 7.30am but there were no clear instructions on what to do as there was no response to the intercom system. On a positive note the room was clean, had nice soap, a great hairdryer, pleasant and what appeared to be hardworking staff.

There appeared to be a problem with lack of staff in the restaurant with only 3 people on duty on a saturday night. Also some choices of food and drinks not available. The people that were there were working exceedingly hard.

The quality of the rooms is comparable with the Premier Inns. The breakfast on offer is reasonably priced and of a decent quality. The only drawback was that the restaurant seemed to have insufficient stock; several times that had run out of basic supplies.

Room OK, helpful staff but not enough of them. Restaurant understaffed, grubby tables, limited food options, unavailable wines on list (OK if your palate runs to "Red or White"). Good for an overnight stop but I\'d suggest eating elsewhere if the place is busy. Breakfast next day was oddly the highlight, actually nice choices and well cooked and presented.

Property was experiencing technical difficulties so restaurant's menu was severly impacted, only limited cooked food available! Bar ran out of Pinot Grigio and New Zealand Savignon not available. Staff attempting to do their best in circumstances!

The room was nice and roomy and was clean. Was a bit of a wait to check-in as staff were busy. I felt that the toilets in the restaurant area were in need of a refurbishment, the radiators were rusty and the hand dryers were also rusty. Just looked tired in the ladies. Breakfast was good but the coffee was awful. I overheard someone complain it was like water and someone came and just added more instant coffee to the jug. Thankfully I had decaffeinated from a sachet. Little things like good coffee make a difference. I would stay again as it's in a great place with nice views. Plus has a good restaurant for meals during the day and evening.

Stay was lovely. Room clean and quiet. Unfortunately we think we left behind an item in our room after we left. Three days of calling the hotel to check and no-one has picked up the phone yet. No response using email or online chat facility either. Very frustrating.

Staff were so polite, helpful and friendly. The room was a great size for two people, it was clean and well maintained. Everything you need for a 2 night stay. Comfortable, good size bed and adequate storage. Location is on a main road but is very quiet considering and has the bonus of buses running regularly, so no need for the car. We had breakfast which had mainy options and money off if you prebook. Real lovely and very affordable.

A good inexpensive clean hotel that is able to offer reasonable provisions for family rooms. Helpful staff and a good child menu offer. The wait time for food with young children was a bit of a challenge but otherwise a pleasant stay. Great place to visit.
