Homeless encampment and limited paring

Bathroom was great with liquid soap, shampoo and conditioner. Amenities included in great condition: microwave, tea pot, fridge, nice steel cups & mugs, Easy control TV w/ remote, hair dryer, AC. Lighting options are good, many convenience outlets well located. Ice machine and ice bin provided. Bed and pillows are comfortable. They provide three clothing hooks and a few hangers. A clean, nicely lighted courtyard with tables and chairs. The entire property was very clean, and the staff was outstanding. The only minor inconvenience is that there is no dresser, or drawers for unpacking clothes.

Limited parking and was not well kept, the overall property. The towels were very thin.

This is probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed in Monterrey area. Why? 1 - no luggage rack 2 - no closet for clothes, no hangers either. In fact, the room has no furniture excep the bed frame. That’s it. 3 - the only window in my room has no mosquito screen. The desk people told me none of their windows in any room with a screen. 4 - very weak Wi-Fi signal 5 - tv signal is worse than anything you can imagine. Ghost and frozen images just about every other sec. 6 - fridge is so small with no freezer 7 - noisy and shaky floor 8 - shower head is like a sprinkler that spill water from every connection point

I was here for car week. I understand the high room cost but the lack of room service and towels is unacceptable. The office is only open from 9 AM to 10 PM. I had to use hand towels on day to dry off and come back early one night to get the towels.

We had a good stay at the Gateway Lodge but the property and room itself were below expectations. Room was clean but there were some small issues (broken blinds, broken toilet paper holder, rust stains in the tub) and the furnishings and bedding were very basic. From reading other reviews I feel I was unprepared and my family was definitely taken aback, so just wanted to let others know in case their usual standards were similar. Check in and communication was great, location was super convenient and parking was easy and plentiful. If you are not picky about a room being new/super nice and just need a place to sleep this could be a great option for you. There was also a fridge/freezer combo, a microwave and a K-cup coffee maker.

Internet was slow.

Neighbors above me appeared to be running around constantly causing the entire room to shake. Walls generally are very thin. You can hear a lot of noise from all your neighbors. AC unit in my room was broken. I requested it be fixed—it wasn’t. No luggage carts. Not a very nice area, there were people fighting in the alley connected to the property. Room was clean when I arrived. Only two towels provided, which is insufficient when the room isn’t being cleaned every day. Narrow parking lot filled with large vehicles making it difficult to park when the lot is close to full.

We had a very nice stay in this newly remodeled older hotel. They have filled in the pool and created a nice little patio area. There is a shopping mall very close. Staff is amazing and friendly.

Gross. Felt unsafe, right next to a liquor store and sketchy people just sitting in the parking lot all night. It is around car dealerships, but down the street is a target and some food places like Five Guys and Starbucks. The convenience is the only nice part. Room smelled terrible and had stains on the sheets, toilet and walls. Would not stay here again. Internet never worked even when connected, it says no internet.

Clean rooms, but bathroom smelled of urine.

For $230 I expected clean at least, I took pictures, the bed sheets has holes and stained, so I was very unsatisfied

Was very disappointed. The walls had so much dirt the floors were not clean either. The outside chairs had poop all over them. Overall it’s a 2 stars at best. ( the bed was so uncomfortable as well)

The room was not clean, which was disappointing. The bedsheet had noticeable stains, and there were brown marks on the walls in both the bathroom and the main room. The soap dispenser had sticky, caked-on dust, and the conditioner dispenser in the shower was filled with hand soap. Additionally, the bathroom door didn’t shut properly—it could be pushed open easily, even when it appeared locked. While this wasn’t a major issue for me as a solo traveler, it could be problematic for others. I want to emphasize that the staff was professional and courteous throughout my stay, but the overall cleanliness of the room was lacking.

The photos shown on the website, are not the same rooms. Our first room we were put in smelled strictly like cleaning supplies and the room appeared small and nothing like what we thought we were booking. We went to the front desk to get a new room due to the strong odor of cleaning supplies. We told the front desk worker about the cleaning supply smell, and that the room wasn’t what we thought. He said “yeah, the rooms get cleaned. And the rooms are exactly as advertised.” He did allow us to move to the room next door. The room was the exact same (but not as much of a cleaning supply smell which was nice). The room was filthy. The shower drain was clogged with old hair. There was a white stain on the bed (no idea what it was..) the night stands are little floating metal tables. The beds are on springs and were loud every time I moved. The head boards were pieces of wood nailed to the wall. The floor boards were FILTHY!!! When we walked bare footed we had dirty stains on our feet. We had 1 towel when we checked into the room. It was just a bad

Well let's say the view is way better online, when you see the place upon arrival you're like hmm interesting.... The outside is full of junk not clean at all, the office is smelly not sure what the smell was. The stairs are dirty with the birds around they should be pressure was the areas for sanitary purposes. Then you enter the room, dirty as in chairs not wiped down sticky stuff Im not sure if boogers or what it was,t owel in the shower, Floors felt dirty. The bathroom door didn't lock, the sliding door and screen door did not lock at all so uneasy, yes it was upstairs but did not feel safe as they would not lock. Would not stay there again.

The room was spacious and had a fridge, microwave, and coffee in the room. The beds were comfortable, even the bunk beds. Staff was friendly.

Our room was huge with a separate bedroom for the kids! But it was noisy. You could hear every step above us, the water running whenever the upstairs guest used theirs. Great value, spacious room, but you get what you pay for.

Clean enough. Downtown location. Small quarters with minimal amenities, The beds are not that comfy and are on a metal platform bed. Every time you turn over it sounds like a metal screen door closing. Clean room though.

The base of the bed is metal framing so every time you move it makes noises. There were hardly any outlets and the one was broken.

I wish there were hangers in the room, a bottle of water was provided at check in and that the phone in the room worked to call Housekeeping or the reception during the off hours.

Booked two rooms on one reservation. Didn’t have them together. Rooms and lobby have a strange smell. Patio door wouldn’t open. Front door lock was difficult to turn. Beds are rock hard and noisy. Ac in one room wasn’t working properly so the room was stuffy. Definitely could not stay here more than 1 night.

The staff was friendly and the room was clean, though it lacked storage space. Almost no furniture.

It was a nice room, with excellent service from the nearby cleaning service ladies. Anything we needed they were so kind to help. It is a great walking distance from chain restaurants and Monterey beach. My family would definitely stay again.

Easy after hours check in process with very helpful and pleasant front desk person. Very clean room. Excellent value for a basic room close to Monterey and Laguna Seca Raceway. Will definitely stay here again for quick trips where I plan on spending days doing other activities. Perfect motel, not a resort.

Clean , staff are great But no More body wash and the pillows are old and lumpy . But otherwise everything is good

I was here for car week. I understand the high room cost but the lack of room service and towels is unacceptable. The office is only open from 9 AM to 10 PM. I had to use hand towels on day to dry off and come back early one night to get the towels.

This property was horrible!!!!!! The location was awful trying to find and turn into the hotel.One little tiny section to turn off the curb. The representative or owner or whoever he was- Absolutely horrible, of the Indian descent that could barely speak English. He was very very rude. My tub in room 225 was stopped up, probably from the previous person that had the room. All of the sheets were stained with bodily fluids, which was absolutely disgusting! The walls had bodily fluids on them as well. The headboard was stained with handprints or feet prints or some type of body prints, which was disgusting. When you first walked into the room, they had the smell of bleach which I still saw stains all over the floor. Pubic hairs all in the tub and elsewhere in this small hotel room. They gave us one toilet paper roll, and we had to request another, which they would not give us at the time- they made us wait an hour for us to come down to pick up the toilet tissue paper. They did not deliver the new sheets and blanket on the bed… I had to go get this from the housekeeper, I had to wait outside for them to give me new sheets . Whatever you do -do not go to this DUMP!!!! Just awful. I complaineto the guy at the front desk and he did not help me. He was very rude and very argumentative and would not refund my money. I have to contact the bank to get my money back. In the middle of the night, there were noisy patron of this hotel, and it was a awful experience to say the least!

For starters, lots of previous reviews stated how clean this place is. That was not the case for our room. The walls and doors need cleaned. Also my kids socks were filthy after walking around the room for a little while. Beds were extremely uncomfortable. The people above us were stomping around and making so much noise until 3am! I couldn't get ahold of the front desk because they close at 10pm. The only positives about this place is decent pricing(you get what you pay for though) and parking was good.

We were given the key, went to our room and someone was already occupying. Had to trudge back with luggage and get a new room. The room was very clean, but the beds are uncomfortable, very loud rickety metal that moved and creaked every time you tried getting comfortable. The neighborhood was sketchy, but that’s not the fault of the place.

Not as described on the Expedia app. Check in was at 3 we arrived at 9:15 and our room was in the process of being cleaned! I was not waiting out in the cold with my kids so my husband told her to just change the bedding and go. No phone, night stand, desk, or remote to the tv as described!

Clean rooms, good service, close to sites

Very helpful and friendly staff that accommodated my 2 friends and my service animal in training who is a bit naughty right now since we’ve been apart. They are wonderful and I appreciated their kindness in a very uncertain and crazy time in my life!

I booked this hotel because most of the reviews said it was okay- absolutely not. What you see online, is not what you will see in person. The place is extremely dirty. I didn’t even feel safe walking my dogs outside because there were so much cigarettes, broken glass, and trash on the floor. I was told I could only have a room on the bottom floor since I brought my two dogs- total lie. Everyone above me had big dogs and you could hear every single movement not allowing myself or my dogs to sleep. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, pillows were extremely flat- even when I asked for more it was useless. I walked into weird goo on the walls and a blanket with red spots and dirt. I only had 5 channels on my TV and the AC was super loud and only blew lukewarm air. This morning we were awoken to the police trying to enter someone’s room. When we opened our door there was an unhoused woman sleeping on the floor. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Save yourself the disappointment!

Convenient location as it is centered by local shopping centers such as target, Costco, home goods and food places, about 10min drive from old fisherman’s wharf, 15-20min drive from aquarium. The place is on a Main Street so you do hear from time to time loud cars but overall quiet. Rooms come with the essentials needs such as bathroom and a bed to sleep however not updated or modern to say, did have ac or heater, tv channels, fridge and microwave, majority was clean besides some hairs in the restroom FYI restaurant next door Gusto, very good definitely recommend pizza and pasta was delicious

The area is not safe… there are homeless people everywhere. The beds were very uncomfortable.

Good value for 2 nights. Room is clean, close to Laguna Seca, nearby restaurants and Costco, to fill up before heading home.

The grounds at this hotel were dirty and smelly. There were not hotel staff on the premises after 10:30 PM. There were people fighting outside our room, and there appeared to be drug deals going on in the parking lot lat at night. The room itself was clean, but the beds were hard and uncomfortable, and the mini-fridge was not cooling effectively.

We were here for car week, so it was very convenient and easy to get to the freeway and pebble beach. It was a decent room for 2, upstairs. Beds were comfortable, but the frame was noisy ( not terrible). Could use a bit of dusting , and more hooks in the bathroom and vanity area for clothes/towels. A luggage rack or table would also be nice as well. We found it quiet, decent area ( we felt safe ). Staff was always helpful.

The worst hotel I ever stayed. I should get a refund or 1/2 of my money back. My room wasn't cleaned when I returned after my whale watching tour. I went to the front desk and asked why my room wasn't cleaned, only to be told housekeeping is gone The room was #110 the very back room of the hotel. Six feet from my window was a homeless tent camp, there was a wire fence, but they talked loud all night long from about 1 in the morning to 4:30. I felt very unsafe. I told this to the front desk and was told to call the police. They guy at the desk told his worker to give me some clean towels. I wanted to be moved to a clean room away from the loud homeless people away from very back of the hotel, but that didn't happen. Missing from the ad, was NO Mircowave in the room. And NO contintal breakfast. My review is a ZERO on a 1 to 10 scale

I liked that they used Keurig pods.

Easy stay. Convenient and right next to an Italian restaurant.

Good value for money. The property itself is pretty well maintained, both exterior and interior. The rooms are updated, clean, good housekeeping. Only thing I'd add is to update the pillows, they are worn out. The area itself is not in a pretty part of the town, so the neighborhood looks sketchy. But the Italian restaurant Gusto next door is an amazing place - upscale and great food. Overall good cost effective place to retire for the night and get out to Monterey/Carmel areas to explore. It's also very close to coast line, almost walkable.

This property was a delightful find. It was a clean, well cared for, and appear to be recently remodeled property. Our room was clean and minimally decorated but had everything that we needed. Beds were not terrible. The the location was good, it was easy to get to the beach, easy to get to somewhere to eat, and there was a grocery store nearby. For the price it was a great little hotel.

Nothing fancy, but clean, easy, friendly service. Walked to Gusto Restaurant next door for dinner it was fantastic. street noise woke us up a few times during the night.
