We stayed here two nights while in Detroit for a Tiger's baseball game. The gentleman who checked us in was very nice and helpful, providing a list of area food recommendations. Accommodations were exceptional and the rooms were extremely clean. The decor was lovely throughout the hotel and the bar/restaurant was beautiful. We only had cocktails at the Apparatus Room; the staff were wonderful as were our drinks. Valet parking was easy ($45/night) and we mainly walked or took a Lyft to get around. The hotel is within walking distance of Comerica Park, the waterfront, many restaurants and shopping. The hotel gym was nice and had plenty of space, including two Peloton's. We would absolutely recommend this hotel and will be back the next time we stay in Detroit.

The Foundation is a historic building, an old firehouse that has been converted to a hotel. The hotel rooms are decorated in an art deco / mid century blend of decor and there are many original preserved details throughout the property. The terrazzo flooring is in mixed condition and I found it to be very cold. I would've preferred hardwood or carpet. The bathrooms are tastefully renovated and I loved the toiletry items provided (Le Labo Santal 33, which smells amazing). I did not eat at the restaurant, but the ambience was nice and the menu looked good.

I didnt like that price was listed same for both days, yet upon arrival 1 day was billed more than other. Hotel Restaurant was closed didnt know that before booking, no free parking, didnt know that before booking. Ended up using the valet parking at 45 a night.. upon arrival was an extra added 200 deposit required upon arrival, didn't know that before booking, .. said had a breakfast on 3rd floor was a lie, turned out it was a Cresent and coffee only. ..place is beautiful none the less, very clean, staff is overall beautiful, kind, polite, extremely respectful. Rooms were amazing, clean, and quiet..

Forced valet was a turnoff. Rate seemed disproportionate. Room was very small. Room had not been thoroughly cleaned in a long time. Space is “cute”, but not what I was expecting at all.

Restored five story fire house with great bar and restaurant. Restoration blends historic charm wil updated amenities. One point off for a bit spartan room amenities and a poorly built shower pan that had me standing in water.

Location was great for our conference, staff was friendly, and gym was great. But the sink was cracked and did not drain, the mirror was chipped in 2 places, the sheets came off revealing a very stained mattress cover and the rug looked gross.

Great facility and great service. However, our room faced Cobo Hall (now called something else) with a very big video screen that was on all night long and the blinds didn’t screen out the pulsating color changes. Also one side of the room was very dark

Had HVAC issues with our room. Could not get the thermostat to go over 68 degrees and could not get the HVAC fan to shut off. So we had to contend with a cool breeze pointed at our bed all night long.

The Junior Suite was trendy, unique, and very different than any other room we've stayed in before. It was perfect for the weekend. We enjoyed the location as there is a Starbucks one block out the door as well. The view of the Detroit River was beautiful in the morning. We would definitely stay at the Detroit Foundation again. Shoutout to John and Jordan for great customer service!

Just odd for a hotel not to have coffee machines in the room or no ice machines. Although, asking front desk would get you ice. Fridge in room was filled with beverages if you take you pay. If you brought a lot of beverages from home, no room in fridge

We adored the hotel itself, the staff, the restaurant. But we were kept up all night by motorcycles and loud cars. There was so much traffic noise (and loud traffic noise) that we couldn’t sleep.

Charming, if a bit odd. It clearly wasn’t designed to be a hotel. My room was very large and comfortable. The shower is big and luxurious. I didn’t dine in the restaurant but got a croissant to take out. It was made in house and remarkably good. I wish I’d had a meal in the restaurant. Try to avoid a run in the back side of the hotel, especially on the lower floors. There’s noise and the trash dumpster every morning around 5:30, especially on Thursday when the trash trucks arrived.

The staff was incredibly friendly and provided top notch service. Would highly recommend the stay and the experience. Love that they captured the essence of the original fire house headquarters while making it modern and inviting. Definitely a 10/10 stay!

The service here is off the charts! Requested a coffee maker in the room and it was there, with coffee, when I checked in. Every question I texted was promptly answered. Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. The bar is great, craft cocktails in a relaxed vibe. Food in the restaurant was on par for 4 star spots. I travel roughly 25 weeks per year and this is the best boutique hotel I’ve stayed in during 2024. I’ll be back.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay at the Detroit Foundation Hotel! We were in Detroit to take in a Detroit Lions game. The service orientation of the staff is exceptional. The hotel has a very cool vibe, highly recommended. We were greeted warmly by the associate at check-in, valet parking was seamless, the valet was a great help. We stopped for a drink and a meal in the Apparatus Lounge. A big shout out to Jermaine, Adam and Beth for their wonderful service. John was very friendly at checkout. Highly Recommended!

Cool property and great restaurant and staff. However, the front desk and valet staff were not friendly, considerate or welcoming. For example, the alarm went off at 3 am from the previous guest and I couldn’t get back to sleep. I checked out later that morning and mentioned it to the front desk lady so that housekeeping could fix it as it isn’t a regular alarm clock. She didn’t say anything. Didn’t apologize for the inconvenience or anything. When we arrived as well the front desk staff wasn’t welcoming. Same with valet. These are the first and last people guests interact with so they require better training to best represent the brand and provide a better customer experience.

Overall it was very good. The food and drinks at the bar were a little overpriced for the quality and the service was very slow. The building was once a firehouse and that is interesting. The room was fine. Nothing to complain about.

Great hotel. We've had dinner at the restaurant here twice so we were excited to stay here. Rooms are pretty quiet, especially for being in a large city. Beds/pillows very comfortable (and I'm fussy!). Staff was all very friendly. Rooms were large and the showers was great- more hotels need the temp handle on the wall opposite the shower head. Not quite as central to a lot of the places on Woodward but pretty short walk

Stayed in Detroit for 3 nights with a couple friends. Loved the Foundation. Rooms were clean and well appointed, towels were great, shower big and roomy. Our sink didn't drain well. The downstairs bar and restaurant were welcome, but we wish there had been a lobby to use. Staff were great, valet parking too. We'd happily book here again.

Very expensive, noisy, worn mattress. $100 for a New Year’s party that you had to sign up for to go into the bar or restaurant after 10 am. No food or drinks included. Some loud DJ hip hop music. Complete money grab. Restaurant has good food, but looking at $75 a person minimum and service was terrible. Breakfast could not even get into the place because they were “at capacity”. It was half full, but no servers, so they would not let us eat. $378 for one night! Go elsewhere.

Restaurant and bar are incredible. Building is very unique and the design of every space was considered and executed carefully. Loved the bits of history infused throughout. All staff and servers were so nice. It was just fantastic. I will forever miss that bed too
