Amazing country pub, warm welcome from Steve owner and buddy (dog). Clean room with comfortable bed and large shower room. Currently renovating the kitchen but breakfast served up in the top garden. Breakfast made to order and was delicious. We ate there three nights fresh pizza made to order in pizza oven using some produce from well stocked organic garden. The regulars and staff were so welcoming for a small village. Even met a kindered spirit originally from cleckheaton (Nick) the gardener. If you want a warm welcome with home comforts at a good price make The Mitre Inn Your next stop. Until next year!!

Run by a lovely friendly couple who couldn't be more accommodating. Set in an ancient village in a secluded location, a few miles north of Sherborne. Nice comfortable room and great food (the hake and dauphinoise potatoes are the best ever!). Plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for eating and drinking. Highly recommended.

Everything you need for a break away .Wonderful fresh home made food which was good value and tasted amazing .No problem parking extended car park outside the Inn.The room we stayed in was a generous size and the king size bed was very comfortable .The hosts made us feel very welcome and when we are travelling that way again this will be our first choice .

Booked last minute for a trip with kids. Location was very convenient but do bear in mind it’s accessed via small country roads. The staff were very welcoming and my boys were smitten with the dog, Buddy. The main pub wasn’t open but the pizza’s were great. The garden is absolutely wonderful and we will definitely try to return and see how it matures.

What a find, a proper country pub with real beer, real people and great food. Add to that a suntrap of a garden and absolute peace through the night. Well done Steve, carry on doing what you are doing. Oh and did I mention the breakfast...?

We really enjoyed our stay . Steve was a lovely host and his breakfast was delicious. The kitchen is being replaced and renewed but we had a delicious homemade pizza one night and breakfast was served from the kitchen in the garden bar, beautiful scenery and so peaceful, it couldn’t be improved on.

Arrived in the dark on a bitterly cold misty February night. Despite the fact that Steve had only just got out of hospital after a hip operation and clearly in pain, he did everything possible to make me welcome and comfortable. Rooms recently completely refurbished, well-pointed and warm. Great land scaping projects in the garden ready for the summer to make wonderful sitting out areas. The quintessentially simple cosy affordable Dorset Inn, log fire. stone floor simple decor, gumboots and pub labrador. Perfection.

The Mitre Inn is a great example of Ye Olde English Pub complete with what appears to be the original flagstone flooring. Nice log burner adds to the ambiance. Steve, the host and his girlfriend are excellent and food was top along with great beers. Had a great stay there and would recommend it.

We stayed in the shepherds hut in the garden and had a wonderful time. The location of the pub is just stunning.The garden is beautiful and the outside bar is amazing. Our host was very friendly, even with our grumpy dog.

Beautiful surroundings, wonderful host and staff throughout. Comfortable stay with warm showers, large bed, clean and tidy. Good food in the evening too. The pub / hotel is sat within a very quiet and remote village.

Iv stopped here a few times now and it's a lovely little quiet pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The owner Steve is a great host. The room are very clean and comfortable. The pub offers fantastic food, all homemade and the breakfast is one of the best iv had in any hotel. If your looking for a nice quiet place to stop for a few night in Dorset you must stay here.

We had a lovely stay surrounded by nature, quiet and relaxing. The staff were all lovely, the food was great and eating al fresco was a bonus. Our room could have been a bit cleaner and the bathroom had a bit of a musty smell but it is an old pub so goes with the territory. The bed was comfortable and we slept peacefully and well.

Second time stopping at this lovely pub. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Do not miss the full English breakfast, it's spectacular ( you won't need lunch after it ). I can recommend eating there as well, I had the burger and only just managed to finish it ( big tasty portions). I would suggest going out in the day but make sure you get back to enjoy the food and just sit back and relax with a nice drink and good people.

Set in the beautiful hamlet of Sandford Orcas. Steven has created a lovely place to chill. Quiet,friendly,and nicely appointed, dogs are a bonus and great food. Lovely comfortable beds too. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

Arrived in the dark on a bitterly cold misty February night. Despite the fact that Steve had only just got out of hospital after a hip operation and clearly in pain, he did everything possible to make me welcome and comfortable. Rooms recently completely refurbished, well-pointed and warm. Great land scaping projects in the garden ready for the summer to make wonderful sitting out areas. The quintessentially simple cosy affordable Dorset Inn, log fire. stone floor simple decor, gumboots and pub labrador. Perfection.

We had a perfect stay here for us. It is situated in a very rural area near Sherborne. It is a popular pub with locals giving us an opportunity to meet and chat with them. The chef cooks lovely traditional pub food. The landlord could not have been more attentive and obliging.

Run by a lovely friendly couple who couldn't be more accommodating. Set in an ancient village in a secluded location, a few miles north of Sherborne. Nice comfortable room and great food (the hake and dauphinoise potatoes are the best ever!). Plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for eating and drinking. Highly recommended.

Booked last minute for a trip with kids. Location was very convenient but do bear in mind it’s accessed via small country roads. The staff were very welcoming and my boys were smitten with the dog, Buddy. The main pub wasn’t open but the pizza’s were great. The garden is absolutely wonderful and we will definitely try to return and see how it matures.

Beautiful surroundings, wonderful host and staff throughout. Comfortable stay with warm showers, large bed, clean and tidy. Good food in the evening too. The pub / hotel is sat within a very quiet and remote village.

What a lovely stopover in my busy business week. A proper country pub with great standard of accomodation. The evening meal was devine as was the included breakfast the next morning. Peaceful, quiet and wonderful hists. Cannot fault my stay and will be looking forward to staying again. Thanks again Andy

Set in the beautiful hamlet of Sandford Orcas. Steven has created a lovely place to chill. Quiet,friendly,and nicely appointed, dogs are a bonus and great food. Lovely comfortable beds too. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

We stayed in the shepherds hut in the garden and had a wonderful time. The location of the pub is just stunning.The garden is beautiful and the outside bar is amazing. Our host was very friendly, even with our grumpy dog.

Amazing country pub, warm welcome from Steve owner and buddy (dog). Clean room with comfortable bed and large shower room. Currently renovating the kitchen but breakfast served up in the top garden. Breakfast made to order and was delicious. We ate there three nights fresh pizza made to order in pizza oven using some produce from well stocked organic garden. The regulars and staff were so welcoming for a small village. Even met a kindered spirit originally from cleckheaton (Nick) the gardener. If you want a warm welcome with home comforts at a good price make The Mitre Inn Your next stop. Until next year!!

An authentic village pub not pretending to be anything else. Basic menu well executed. Friendly, attentive but unobtrusive service. The only downside was the unpleasant smell coming from our bathroom.

What a find, a proper country pub with real beer, real people and great food. Add to that a suntrap of a garden and absolute peace through the night. Well done Steve, carry on doing what you are doing. Oh and did I mention the breakfast...?

We really enjoyed our stay . Steve was a lovely host and his breakfast was delicious. The kitchen is being replaced and renewed but we had a delicious homemade pizza one night and breakfast was served from the kitchen in the garden bar, beautiful scenery and so peaceful, it couldn’t be improved on.

Iv stopped here a few times now and it's a lovely little quiet pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The owner Steve is a great host. The room are very clean and comfortable. Second time stopping at this lovely pub. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Do not miss the full English breakfast, it's spectacular ( you won't need lunch after it ). I can recommend eating there as well, I had the burger and only just managed to finish it ( big tasty portions). I would suggest going out in the day but make sure you get back to enjoy the food and just sit back and relax with a nice drink and good people.

I thought i had already done one of these, but it probably deserves another accolade. Lovely efficient and welcoming staff, it's owned and very competently personally managed by owner Steve. We reckon the Mitre is an extraordinarily good find. Amazing small country village side of valley location wonderful visas in every direction. Super cusine all with local produce freshly prepared with panache. Rooms en suite imited in number but well equipped very clean and comfortable. Wonderful getaway break, we'll be back for sure. We only booked the Mitre Inn as it was near to a wedding we were attending but this gorgeous pub with its friendly locals and staff ended up being a highlight in itself! We felt welcomed and looked after from the moment we stepped in. The room, the food, the beer, the decor, the staff, the gardens, all of it was fantastic. We are already planning another stay.

Two highly enjoyable nights in a fantastic inn, brilliant owner for whom nothing is too much trouble. The Mitre is in a beautiful Tolkien-esque setting and I highly recommend it
