Coachmans Cottage West Porlock

Coachman's Cottage was faultless. Bright, warm and cosy, well equipped and beautifully furnished. Excellent location for walking and access to the orchard behind the cottage is simply brilliant. We are looking forward to coming back in the autumn.

David,the host,was extremely friendly and helpful. The cottage was perfect our dog as it had an enclosed courtyard ( a real suntrap for us) where the dog could runaround and a lovely orchard where she could run. The cottage was nicely furnished and well equipped with some items not expected - dishwasher and washing machine

Lovely cottage with everything you need Perfect for dogs with an enclosed yard and a lovely enclosed orchard where the dog can have a run - access directly to the footpath too.

Local walks from the house join coastal paths to Bossingham, Portland and Port Weir. No need to take car out . Very welcome to make use of flower meadow/paddock to the back of cottage. Benches dotted around enable you to enjoy the fabulous views that surround the cottage. Tranquil spot to wake up to in the morning and enjoy in the evening. Plenty of places to visit within a short distance: Doncaster, Lynford and Lynton , West Somerset Steam Railway. Fabulous area for a holiday Exmoor is breathtakingly beautiful.

Lovely warm cottage. Well situated. Plenty of off-road parking. Very quiet.

Lovely place to have a great break . The cottage is nice and cosy and very comfortable bed. The shower over the bath was very good quality ( not like some places). There are lots of hanging points for wet gear and dog towels. The enclosed courtyard at the front is great to let the dog out in without supervision, and there is a lovey orchard/field at the back for sitting out in or running the dog free. Locally the whole area is very dog and walk orientated. The pubs and tearooms don't mind if you are in walking gear. In fact we didn't need any posh clothes at all, we lived in walking boots and wellies for the dog walks . The scenery is amazing locally with lots of hilly or flat walks.

We arrived in a very cold January to a wonderful clean cottage,with everything you could wish for.beautiful walks from the orchard at the rear of the property ,and stunning sea views from the front.the gardens are beautifuly manicured,and can imagine how stunning they are in the summer.very secure courtyard at the front ,for our two small dogs to use,which is so important to us.fantastic pub 10 minutes walk from the house.we will definitely be back. A lovely little cottage in beautiful area. All plumbing was high quality. The wood-burning stove in the sitting room pumped out plenty of heat. The bed was very comfortable with good quality sheets and blankets. WiFi was plenty strong enough, and Internet speed was good. Excellent and comfortable furniture throughout. Dogs welcome and amply catered for by the enclosed courtyard out front, and orchard at the back. Highly recommended.

Coachman's Cottage more than met our expectations and is surprisingly spacious for two people. It is tastefully decorated and thoughtfully equipped to a high standard, and had everything we needed to help make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The cottage is in a quiet location and is perfectly situated for walking. There are plenty of walks from the door, with the South West Coastal Path and the Coleridge Way both easily accessible.

Lovely cosy cottage. Bright and spacious with views to the sea. Secure orchard for our dog to run in was wonderful and made things very relaxed and easy. Super easy access directly to lovely walks to the village, the sea or up onto the hills. Very helpful but unintrusive host.

It felt very private as only the owners' house was nearby and it was very peaceful being at the top of a drive. The owners' garden was available to appreciate and was absolutely gorgeous.

We have taken full advantage of staycations in the last year or so and Coachman's Cottage is one of the very best. A clean, comfortable property with character and fully-equipped, marvellous hosts, excellent location in beautiful landscape with easy access to sea and mountain and a variety of interest including Culborne Church, Dunkery Beacon, Doone Valley and Valley of the Rocks.

A delightful cottage set in beautiful surroundings. The gardens are wonderful and the orchard has fabulous views over Porlock Marshes, Hurlstone Point and Bossington Hill - great for catching the sunrise / sunset. The cottage is cosy, bright and very well equipped. The upstairs bedroom is very comfortable (best bed ever!) and has great views. There are plenty of walks straight from the cottage door with the added bonus of access to the Coleridge Way via their orchard. The owners are lovely and more than helpful if you need them. If you're looking for peace, quiet and comfort, this cottage is for you. Recognition to whomever is responsible for keeping the cottage clean - it's absolutely spotless. We had a wonderful week and have already booked for 2023 !

We were disappointed by the condition of this holiday property which was described on Vbro.com as being dog friendly and having a 'courtyard, providing the perfect spot to eat alfresco'. The courtyard was covered in weeds, moss, and dirt, unlike the beautiful, landscaped garden belonging to the owner's property. The front door to the cottage was heavily scratched and the window frames were filthy. The last thing we wanted to do was 'eat alfresco' in this area. There was no mention on Vbro.com of the matter of dogs not being allowed upstairs. This wasn't mentioned until a deposit had been paid and the information became available on the Exmoor website. When we arrived at the property and viewed the stairs, we became very concerned as there was no stairgate in place to prevent our spaniel or beagle from using them. The staircase is very steep, uncarpeted, and too dangerous for dogs to go up and down. The leather pouffe and sofa in the lounge were heavily scratched by dogs who had previously stayed at the cottage. The cushion on the wicker chair in the kitchen was heavily stained. The freezer was choc-a-bloc with ice so we had to throw our frozen food away as there wasn't anywhere to store it. The doors were grimy above and below the handles. The 'decorative shell' in the bathroom was covered in dirt/dust. The bottom of the shower curtain was moldy and there were cobwebs on most of the ceilings. When we arrived home, we received an email from the owners advising that they had 'Just been into the cottage fearing the worst (you having said that "when we arrived there were scratch marks all over the furniture") and I couldn't see any at all. In fact, no problems anywhere! Even the scratch marks on the inside of the front door (which I agreed were there before you'd arrived) looked better. I wonder if you might have painted it? If so thank you very much.' We did not paint anything. In fact, we tried to vacuum before we left but the vacuum was full to bursting and absolutely reeked.

The cottage had everything we needed. It was relaxing, comfortable and clean. We felt Covid safe, in the fact that, all the windows were open when we arrived to air the property. The owner’s property is near but we didn’t feel overlooked at all. The views are stunning and there are plenty of walks around the area. Plenty of places to eat out too. Only negative is we didn’t have long enough there! Will book with Best of Exmoor again!

Lots of love has gone into this place, it's obvious either they've stayed in it themselves or they've listened very closely to feedback. David and Nicky were super nice and made sure we had what we needed. Very clean, incredibly well equipped kitchen, lots of heating options including central, floor in the bathroom and wood burner in the sitting room. Comfy bed with awesome view towards the sea. Well positioned near Porlock which is a nice village (we much preferred to the larger seaside towns) and lots of awesome walks nearby - all the ones in the booklet were great. The nearby area has lots of woodland which we preferred for walking to the other areas of Exmoor (which are still beautiful). Lastly if you don't have a dog (we don't) and aren't dog people (I'm not) then don't worry, there's absolutely no doggie smells and no barking nearby! In fact it's super quiet and we slept with the window open. Highly recommended!

Beautiful location. Private - but close by are very helpful and friendly hosts. Perfect for dogs and people. Enclosed courtyard; sea view; doggy friendly orchard. Clean, comfortable, stylish and attractive. Bedroom - the comfort and the view- wonderful. Don’t come. It’s ours!

An amazing place to stay. Very clean, with everything that we needed. Despite the shorter days, there were plenty of things to do - walking during the day, and a couple of really nice places to eat in the evening. The log burner really made us feel at home. We'll definitely return if passing Porlock in the future.

The cottage is exactly as shown in the photographs, ideal location, excellent car parking, warm and comfortable inside, well equipped, fabulous smart TV, which is well worth working out how to use, good internet connection. Just the right amount of interaction with the hosts who live next door, warm welcome, helpful but not intrusive. Secure orchard paddock where dogs can run free, a major factor when we are looking for a cottage rental. I would be happy to return here, maybe later next year. The surrounding area is wonderful walking country, Hawkcombe Valley from Porlock, and the Horner Valley, from nearby Horner, with its dog friendly tea gardens, as well as the coastal path, accessed directly from the rear of the property. Lynmouth is best avoided at this time of year ( August ), packed to capacity with holiday makers, not good in view of pandemic.

We booked this second stay at Coachman's Cottage almost immediately after our stay in January 2022 as we had enjoyed it so much. Of course, everything was as lovely as we had remembered. The cottage is in a superb, private location on the slope below the wooded hill behind. It is wonderful to come up the drive through the lovely garden. The view - particularly from the bedroom window - is great. And it is so quiet - no traffic or aircraft noise, only birdsong! Care is needed on the stairs but overall Coachman's Cottage is comfortable, warm, and well equipped. WiFi was fine. We appreciated the warm welcome and generosity from David and Nicky and hope to be back again next year.

Staying at Coachman's Cottage was an absolute joy. The cottage was very comfortable, well equipped and beautifully decorated. The view over the front garden and to the sea, and the orchard at the back were a real bonus. The owners were wonderful and we look forward to visiting again. Highly recommended for anyone who could deal with the steep (but safe) staircase to the bedroom.

Perfect for an outdoor-loving couple with a dog. Beautiful and comfortable characterful cottage, with plenty of space and a wood-burner that really packs a punch! Eating and shopping within easy reach; walk or car depending on your needs. Interesting scenery and decent walks from the doorstep; the owners and every local we met were friendly and welcoming without intruding. Wifi and all appliances, heating etc. worked perfectly without any complications. The stairs are steep, narrow and winding, but they are very safe and it isn't really a location for someone who couldn't manage them - they just add to the charm. Loved learning about the orchard, thank you. Would happily recommend to anyone looking for a quiet base to explore the area.

We had a great time and will return to this lovely cottage. Lots of nice touches and very homely. Owners are great and very friendly.

Every effort was made to accommodate us during the difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. We felt like the owners of the property had taken every precaution and really cared about our comfort and safety during this unprecedented time. Clear information was left for anything that we could possibly think of. It was great to get away, and we had a peaceful relaxing break.

The owners were particularly welcoming but not ‘in your face’ and the cottage was perfectly situated for exploring the local area plus further afield! It was also a very comfortable cottage with genuine charm of which the owners have thought of everything one needs for a break away. My compliments to all

Brilliant for dogs outstanding area, lovely local pub (Top Ship) with great food and excellent service,very welcoming.Also bottom Ship at Porlock Weir really very good.The Cottage had everything,very spacious for two people. Clean and tidy,added extras such as tea,coffee kitchen towel most welcome not forgetting bottle of wine! Owners not in your face but there if you needed them.Also the Orchard was a lovely added bonus for us to exercise our dog before we started our walk for the day straight from the door no real need for the car.Beautiful Church at Culborn, lovely walk to the church. Minehead a bus ride away.Local shops for provisions spar plus local butcher,all very helpful.

Characterful and comfortable cottage set in the grounds of the owners beautiful gardens. Beautiful views of the Bristol Channel and a great base for exploring Exmoor. Porlock is a thriving village with many useful amenities. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and made our stay an absolute pleasure. Looking forward to going back!

Excellent cottage in a lovely location for walks. Peaceful with amazing views but close to village amenities.

This is a beautiful, tranquil situation surrounded by an outstanding garden and private orchard. Close enough to Porlock that you can walk easily, far enough away to feel isolated. The cottage is light , airy and very well equipped, with a very comfortable bed, and the gated courtyard is brilliant if you have a dog. Lovely views from both the lounge and the bedroom. Help is always at hand if you need it.

A very peaceful and quiet location, yet proximity to Porlock is great, only a 5 minute walk. The Colerdige way, directly accessible via the orchard to the rear of the property, is wonderful and local walking, whether to the sea or Porlock Weir and on to Culbone Church is spectacular.

The location of the cottage and out look was lovely able to see the sea from the cottage and the walks from the door totally impressed the locals friendly and plenty of dog friendly pubs and cafes this unspoilt corner of exmoor is just a delight .

Coachmans cottage is the perfect holiday cottage, beautiful surroundings, lovely owners, and fantastic location. We would definitely recommend, and the dogs loved it. The honey from owners garden is a must, best we have had !! Piggy in the middle also the best fish and chips well worth a visit.

We had a superb week staying at Coachmans cottage. The accommodation was very comfortable and warm and a pleasure to return to at the end of the day. We didn’t need to use the car very much as there were a multitude of great walks straight from the doorstep. Lovely, friendly hosts and good pub (the Ship) just down the lane. We loved it. Thank-you very much.

This is an amazing place and area to stay in . It is lovely with all the spring plants flowering and all the local gardens are lovely. Some are open to the public. There are lots of local pubs and walks and everyone is vey welcoming
