We had a lovely stay and felt very comfortable. The access to the sites could not have been better. We loved the honesty bar and the ability to come and go privately. It has a great housekeeping staff and the place was clean and smelled great.

Schönes altes Gebäude mit Liebe restauriert. Es liegt komplett zentral allerdings keine Park- oder Zufahrtmöglichkeit mit dem Auto. Parkhaus 400 m entfernt gut aber Gepäck muss getragen werden.

Stunning building. Perhaps the most tastefully decorated hotel I have ever seen. Kudos to whoever did the interior design. Great location, in the heart of where you want to be. Superb breakfast and great staff. It is a 5 star property. I only rated 4 star because of how incredibly inconvenient and disorganized the parking situation is. The hotel provides very vague and confusing information as to where to park off-site. Had to circle the city 3 times to find it. Not marked at all. We then had to drag our luggage through a crowded city, over a bridge, and up multiple steps at the hotel. No bellman and no signs. Not a 5 star experience. Until they solve this problem, it will not truly be a 5 star property.

Simply gorgeous historic hotel in the heart of Ghent with the feel of a true boutique hotel. Wonderful cocktail bar in the evening though, sadly, no restaurant. Superlative staff at all levels from reception to housekeeping.

Access to check-in is difficult. You must walk down from street level to canal level, then climb up a flight of stairs, then use an elevator to go up another level. My husband uses a walker. I left him with the luggage and found check-in. The staff was very helpful, carried luggage, and we managed. I believe I reserved a room that was wheelchair accessible. We were given a room whose shower and sink were up one flight, toilet on the same level as bed. Staff offered to find us another room, but my husband said he could manage. I am not mobility impaired, yet I found it ridiculously unhygienic, bad planning to not have a sink next to a toilet. The shower had no safety bar, so my husband was afraid to shower. The parking garage was difficult to find, although we had received explanatory guidance from the hotel beforehand. However, missing from the literature was the „secret code“ for the garage, and I had to call the hotel in order to get this. Aside from everything I have mentioned, this is a beautiful building, very well-located, and care has been taken with the decor, if not the practicalities. I would not stay here again.

Not a true 5 Star hotel. Very dark. Decor trying to be atmospheric but really just old junk Attempting to be charming. But it’s not. No restaurant. Breakfast was very, very good but pricey. Room had a great view and was quiet but very small. And dark. No siting area. Shower and sink was in loft area up steep stairs. No sink or place to wash your hands downstairs where toilet was located. Hand sanitizer was provided. Like in a port-a-potty. Ick. Did not like that layout AT ALL. Carpet in hallways and elevators etc. was very worn out and shabby. Entry- reception area hard to find and strange. The hotel definitely needs an update and sprucing up. Best thing about it was the location.

Het hotel heeft een zeer unieke en indrukwekkende stijl en wordt tot in de kleinste details in de kamers doorgetrokken. De locatie is ook top, in het hart van het centrum. De ingang van het hotel is niet heel duidelijk aangeven en is even zoeken voor de eerste keer. De kamer die wij hadden was aan de kleine kant maar niet minder fijn.

Stylish and very comfortable hotel with exceptionally lovely staff. The building is very characterful and imposing. Great breakfast. Cleanliness impeccable. Secure wifi. The beds are pretty firm while the pillows are the very soft kind that seem to be the norm in Belgium and the Netherlands, but the staff will find you a mattress topper if you need one. Rooms are well equipped with many cold drinks, a kettle and a coffee machine. The teabags are Mariage Freres. Just a few quibbles. Because the rooms’ ceilings are so high, the bathroom is on a mezzanine level, while the toilet is on the lower level, and there is no handbasin in the toilet- you have to walk upstairs to wash your hands which is not so much fun in the middle of the night, and either the staircase is pitch black or you turn the staircase light on which also lights up the bathroom and actually lights up the entire bedroom, disturbing your partner. The internal staircase needs to be better lit as the stairs are in shadow when you’re coming down. The breakfast is served in a room which acts as a bar the rest of the day and is furnished with low armchairs and sofas. If you’re really unlucky you end up trying to eat your breakfast with the table up under your chin. Lastly, this is not a hotel for the mobility-impaired as there’s no way to avoid having to walk up about 10 stairs to reach reception.

The Post is an imaginative refurb of an historic building with fun room layouts that are grand and practical. Most rooms are double height with a bathroom on an upper balcony, high windows and period artefacts. The small reception is on the first floor next to a cocktail bar that doubles as breakfast room- though busy in the evening tables are kept for residents. There is no residents lounge but an amazing little room at the top of the stair well with an honesty bar- again with period furniture, coffee table books and artefacts. Other parts of the old building are used for shops and cafes on the ground floor. The hotel staff are friendly and informed. The rooms are clean, cosmetics high quality and towels in abundance. The location cannot be bettered in Ghent but the museums and galleries are at the railway station end of town about 20 mins walk away. Excellent for a treat and worth the expense.

The cleanest establishment I have come across Great beddings Great toiletries Great coffee, teas and cocktails selection Only 2 things would have made it better for me "sleepers and bathtub" I came here with my daughter I will go back with my husband soon! What a fantastic hotel! We were greeted warmly, shown to our rooms and offered extra service such as more bedding, milk, coffee if required. We were given maps of the city and recommended places to visit. The room was spotlessly clean, all fixtures and fittings worked and were of a very high standard. Trye bed was very comfortable and the pillows were super snuggly. Extras such as the soaps and shower gel were of high quality and smelled divine. We had a lovely view of the square from our room. Breakfast was perfect for us, lots of choice and nothing too much trouble for the staff. Spent an evening at the bar enjoying the cocktail making (not cheap, but worth it). Thank you to all who work so hard to make this hotel one of the best we have ever stayed at.

Location very central, only slight issue was that it was very noisy on an evening due to the Christmas market directly outside. We could hear singing and music outside, also on a morning around 6:30 we were woken by the street sweeping vans and the bin men. (We found the earplugs on our second night though) The room was beautiful, large and clean, but a bit dark, the lighting was not great. The quirky staircases and little areas made it feel magical, especially at Christmas time. The cocktail bar staff were great as were the breakfast staff. The breakfast menu was extensive and well presented. Only downside were that the chairs were a little low, perfect for evening drinks but less great for breakfast. The reception staff were also very helpful and friendly. We hope to visit again.

Stylish and very comfortable hotel with exceptionally lovely staff. The building is very characterful and imposing. Great breakfast. Cleanliness impeccable. Secure wifi. The beds are pretty firm while the pillows are the very soft kind that seem to be the norm in Belgium and the Netherlands, but the staff will find you a mattress topper if you need one. Rooms are well equipped with many cold drinks, a kettle and a coffee machine. The teabags are Mariage Freres. Just a few quibbles. Because the rooms’ ceilings are so high, the bathroom is on a mezzanine level, while the toilet is on the lower level, and there is no handbasin in the toilet- you have to walk upstairs to wash your hands which is not so much fun in the middle of the night, and either the staircase is pitch black or you turn the staircase light on which also lights up the bathroom and actually lights up the entire bedroom, disturbing your partner. The internal staircase needs to be better lit as the stairs are in shadow when you’re coming down. The breakfast is served in a room which acts as a bar the rest of the day and is furnished with low armchairs and sofas. If you’re really unlucky you end up trying to eat your breakfast with the table up under your chin. Lastly, this is not a hotel for the mobility-impaired as there’s no way to avoid having to walk up about 10 stairs to reach reception.

We loved 1898 The Post! The staff were incredible, very friendly and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and really unique. Our room had gorgeous 20 feet or higher windows. The breakfast quality was fantastic, something about the food just tasted better than our other hotels we stayed at. Checkout the cocktail bar for a signature drink, they were also fantastic. One thing to be aware of our room had the shower and sink upstairs. It was no problem for us, but if you have mobility challenges, you should request a room with out this.

Booked the tower suite for my husband's birthday was absolutely out of this world, couldn't beat the view. Staff were attentive and had put out some flowers after I'd mentioned the reason for our stay. Perfectly located, breakfast was lovely. Will treasure this trip.

Not a true 5 Star hotel. Very dark. Decor trying to be atmospheric but really just old junk Attempting to be charming. But it’s not. No restaurant. Breakfast was very, very good but pricey. Room had a great view and was quiet but very small. And dark. No siting area. Shower and sink was in loft area up steep stairs. No sink or place to wash your hands downstairs where toilet was located. Hand sanitizer was provided. Like in a port-a-potty. Ick. Did not like that layout AT ALL. Carpet in hallways and elevators etc. was very worn out and shabby. Entry- reception area hard to find and strange. The hotel definitely needs an update and sprucing up. Best thing about it was the location.

Location very central, only slight issue was that it was very noisy on an evening due to the Christmas market directly outside. We could hear singing and music outside, also on a morning around 6:30 we were woken by the street sweeping vans and the bin men. (We found the earplugs on our second night though) The room was beautiful, large and clean, but a bit dark, the lighting was not great. The quirky staircases and little areas made it feel magical, especially at Christmas time. The cocktail bar staff were great as were the breakfast staff. The breakfast menu was extensive and well presented. Only downside were that the chairs were a little low, perfect for evening drinks but less great for breakfast. We stayed in the carriage room, with private balcony. Positives: Great location for walking around Ghent, very attractive hotel, absolutely wonderful staff, private balcony, delicious breakfast. Negatives: The room is divided into two floors. The toilet is on the first floor. The bed, shower and sink are on the second. There is no sink in the toilet room, so that means going upstairs to wash your hands. There is no door on the shower. For some reason, the lights for most of the room (most importantly, the stairs) are controlled by one light switch on the first floor. I can’t begin to tell you how annoying this is. There are nightlights on the stairs, but who knows how they work? They did not work during most of our stay. The bedside lights do not operate independently (as far as I could tell). The air conditioner controls are super annoying. Personally, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. If you choose to, make sure your partner is comfortable showering with no privacy. I should also mention that when we were there, loud club music kept us awake on two different occasions. It was being played at 3:00 in the morning. That is my most significant complaint.

Amazing hotel! Breakfast very tasty and scrambled eggs done for you. Room and hotel interior beautifully designed with so many lovely details. Place with great history. The hotel was very cool but we got there around 1PM and they told us check in was at 4 which we already knew but after checking a couple times before 4 they kept telling us it wasn’t going to be ready until 4…you’d think they’d be a bit more accommodating…at exactly 4 they told us our room was ready.

This location is in an amazing historical building, right in the center of town, walkable to the whole town. Parking is secure lot but you need to walk 8 minutes on cobblestones with luggage. Staff was wonderful. Room was nice, we had the terrace view, only complaint is the toilet is downstairs on the first floor bedroom is on the second floor. Night time can be noisy but it didn’t bother us. Highly recommend

Amazing hotel with the best location in the city and great staff. The room was quirky with the shower and sink on the upper level, seemed cool when we first walked in but became a pain having to walk up and down the stairs as they are badly lit. Also the light switches didn’t make any sense, you have to turn everything on to figure out which one worked. Small inconveniences but great hotel overall. Would go back with a different room.

The location was perfect. History behind the building was amazing. Service was prompt and friendly. Everything marks perfect scores but I had to take one star off for the layout of the rooms. Pack lightly - you can never reach anywhere without stairs. We had to carry our luggage and walk up one flight to the reception. In the room, the toilet was downstairs with the bed but the sink and shower was upstairs in the mezzanine - another set of stairs. It felt weird not being able to wash my hands after using the toilet (both #1 and #2). There is hand sanitizer in the toilet, but to me it wasn’t enough and I almost felt guilty stepping out the door without washing hands. If you can look past these, the bedding and amenities were more comfortable than my own and the view was amazing. The location can’t be beat. I recommend this hotel for younger couples with no mobility issues or babies to carry.
