I have stayed at the Palmer House quite a few times and it was always well maintained and clean. This time it seemed like they were struggling to get the property maintained. They had rushed to open the rooms due to three weddings that weekend, so they seem like they didn’t have enough Maid service to clean the rooms properly. the people checking the guest in were friendly and helpful, but they did not seem to have any control over having the property well maintained. Hopefully they will get everything taken care of by my next trip to Vermont.

This is not up to the standards of previous Ascend Collection properties we have stayed in. It is a dated 60s-style motor court motel. It was not worth the $300+US for one night during the fall foliage season. The hot water never got beyond luke warm and the heat did not come on. The room was 66F all night, although I turned up the thermostat to maximum (above 80F).. There was no telephone in the room call the front desk with questions or complaints. Pros: the king size bed was firm and comfortable, the room was huge, and it was clean. The gentleman at the front desk who checked us in was welcoming and called a local restaurant to try to get a table reservation. Unfortunately we stayed on a Monday night so many restaurants were closed. Although the property has a restaurant, we guess it was also not open. Cons: In addition to the heat and hot water issues, the cleaning product used had a smell that hit us as soon as we walked in so strong it gave me a headache. The furniture was scuffed and beat up. There was a blob of something on one of the night tables that at first we thought was a coaster. It had the consistency of melted wax. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash came in tiny bottles that I haven't seen in years and were meant for both of us. The breakfast included McDonald's style sunnyside-up egg with egg white, but we couldn't get one out of the steam tray without destroying it.
