This is a lovely hotel located just outside the busiest part of downtown. That makes it easy to walk to the action (restaurants, the Old Port, the Portland Museum of Art), and have a respite from it. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and there was great light during the day. Everything was quite comfortable. The service was gracious and professional. While we didn't have time to visit the bar or the spa, our local friends tell us that they are both great. They are on the list for our next visit. There is no breakfast in the hotel, though there are two specialty coffee shops within a block and a breakfast joint about two blocks away.

The building is a gracious old home on Congress Street and the rooms are somewhat spartan but comfortable. Avoid the 3rd floor rooms which tend to be smaller. Rooms that face Congress street can be noisy as well. There is on-site free parking but finding a space can be a problem.

Parking was convenient right behind the hotel. Everything was bright and clean, comfortable and stylish in the lobby/sitting area. My room was on the garden level so a little dark, but I had a window to a courtyard, and it was spacious and spotless. Well appointed with mini bar and snacks, and a very comfy bed. Bathroom was ADA compliant (not needed for me, but clean, big & had all I needed). I was in Portland for a concert just a few minutes walk from the hotel and I'd highly recommend staying here. Unique property in the arts district. There are many hotel choices in the area; this is one for adventurous people who like old buildings and accommodations that are different from cookie cutter hotel chains. My large second floor room had 12 foot ceilings, a bathroom with sink and toilet (both high-end fixtures) and a second shower room, quite large, with a walk-in shower stall. In spite of the building's age it had an elevator. There is a very good restaurant in the same building but with a separate entrance.

Beautifully renovated property, great service, the stuff of Victorian novels! Very clean, very comfortable, and quite beautiful. It made us want to sit around and drink whiskey and write flowery prose. We arrived late, at 7:15, and Tito from the front desk took our large bags and ran them up the stairs as if they were nothing. "I went to the gym today," he said. Although the house was built in the late 1800s, it had all the amenities of the 21st century - WIFI, Nest thermometer, and a good shower. Oh, and at one point, the house was a funeral home. What could be cooler than that?

We’ve been staying at The Francis for five years now (less one year for the pandemic). The first stay was lovely… but each one afterwards has been a little less stellar each time. The common areas and rooms are looking worn… the front desk less engaged in the guest experience… housekeeping is hit or miss. This stay is likely my last. I’ll pay a little more for a better experience at another Portland Hotel.

Had a quick one night stay at The Francis and am so glad we landed there for our only night in Portland. Extremely clean, well decorated, lots of thoughtful touches and a perfect all around vibe! Bed was very comfortable and shower pressure was great! The staff was extremely nice/helpful. Very walkable area right on Congress next to so many cute dining places. If you’re looking for a well-appointed place on a great location with lots of charm, The Francis is it!

Beautiful, renovations were excellent. Bed was extremely comfortable and clean. Bathrooms were prestige, clean and newly renovated the old character with the renovated amenities. Made this a very excellent day.

Beautiful hotel, excellent staff and lots of amazing touches. The room had a few things we'd improve - there's only one mirror (the bathroom) and no full-length one, there are not many outlets, but would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Great boutique hotel with a high-end feel for a reasonable price. Tasteful, clean, charming, large room for a standard with a king bed and nice desk, high ceilings, large bay windows, tons of light, could use an upgrade on the robes. Great neighborhood. Close to a fire station but we weren’t bothered. Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.

Great service, everyone was kind and helpful. It was a unique room. The building is old so we heard a lot of creaking above us from people walking. We were also near a busy street so a lot of traffic noise. But the bed was comfortable. There were lots of games and a sitting area outside our room. The restaurant next door was delicious. Would definitely stay again.

The Francis is a fantastic hotel. The staff was incredibly kind, helpful, and communicative. The rooms are beautiful, clean, and quiet even though the road outside is busy. When we arrived, they offered champagne to my partner and me, and checking in and out was a breeze. It's such a great location, and Tadem being just across the street is a bonus! I would recommend staying here to any of my friends or family and hope to stay again!

Everyone working was warm, helpful, and friendly! We felt spoiled on our anniversary trip! The inn was gorgeous, comfortable, and within walking distance to everything we wanted to see. Very safe and the cafe across the way was amazing! Very fresh and beautifully decorated!

Fantastic stay. Was a little nervous as it was a boutique hotel. Beautifully renovated mansion with modern updates for comfort but kept the elegance of the old mansion. Shane welcomed us at front desk and was awesome. Gave us suggestions for dinner and getting around in Portland. Would definitely stay again

The Francis was such a lovely stay! We were able to get an early check in before rain settled in. We were immediately met by such a lovely hostess and greeted with hospitality. The room was lovely and very reasonably priced. Additionally, we stopped by the cocktail bar in the Longfellow Hotel (sister property) across the street for great drinks.

We had a great stay at the Francis, the building is very unique with tons of character and charm. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Its a solid 25 min walk to the old port so we'd walk down and then found it easier to uber back. This was our first stay in a 'boutique' hotel like this and it was a great experience. I'd highly recommend.

We had a nice stay at The Francis. There was construction going on across the street so it was a little noisy in the front of the building in the morning but everything else was great. Great location on Congress St.

Outside of being across the street for Tandem Coffee the location was not convenient for the sites of Portland. The room safes did not work and the front desk staff could not figure out how to fix and they didn't seem at all concerned about this issue. The room was very overpriced for what it was. I would not recommend this property to others.

What a lovely property! Even before I arrived, communication was clear about parking and check in (via text). Staff was pleasant and informative at the very speedy check-in. Parking was convenient right behind the hotel. Everything was bright and clean, comfortable and stylish in the lobby/sitting area. My room was on the garden level so a little dark, but I had a window to a courtyard, and it was spacious and spotless. Well appointed with mini bar and snacks, and a very comfy bed. Bathroom was ADA compliant (not needed for me, but clean, big & had all I needed). I was in Portland for a concert just a few minutes walk from the hotel and I'd highly recommend staying here. Commercial street is also walkable from here (20 min?)

This is a lovely hotel located just outside the busiest part of downtown. That makes it easy to walk to the action (restaurants, the Old Port, the Portland Museum of Art), and have a respite from it. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and there was great light during the day. Everything was quite comfortable. The service was gracious and professional. While we didn't have time to visit the bar or the spa, our local friends tell us that they are both great. They are on the list for our next visit. There is no breakfast in the hotel, though there are two specialty coffee shops within a block and a breakfast joint about two blocks away.

This was the perfect spot for a couples getaway. The Francis House combines the charm of a historical building with modern appointments. Rooms are lovely, beds very comfortable and surprisingly quiet for being on Congress Street. The connected Wayside Tavern is highly rated and the food and drinks were excellent.

The Francis is a fantastic hotel. The staff was incredibly kind, helpful, and communicative. The rooms are beautiful, clean, and quiet even though the road outside is busy. When we arrived, they offered champagne to my partner and me, and checking in and out was a breeze. It's such a great location, and Tadem being just across the street is a bonus! I would recommend staying here to any of my friends or family and hope to stay again!

Great service, everyone was kind and helpful. It was a unique room. The building is old so we heard a lot of creaking above us from people walking. We were also near a busy street so a lot of traffic noise. But the bed was comfortable. There were lots of games and a sitting area outside our room. The restaurant next door was delicious. Would definitely stay again.

Shane welcomed us so warmly and well I already knew it was going to be a great experience. We loved our room, loved the breakfast we received in the morning. I would highly recommend the Francis and will be back!

We interacted with 3 staff members and service was professional, efficient and very helpful. Room and bed very comfortable and we especially liked the shower in room 202. Decent breakfast but don’t miss the bakery across the street. We would definitely book again!

Wonderful old building turned into a boutique hotel. Very comfortable and the location was great. For a longer stay ( we were there 3 nights) more variety at breakfast would be nice but for us it was fine. The restaurant next door was an unexpected bonus ( the food and staff were incredible). On site parking was also a plus.

Quarto e banheiro de bom tamanho.Iluminacao fraca no quarto e de difícil manuseio pois não tem controles ao lado da cama. É cobrado uma taxa de 30$ por dia mas não é oferecido nada que justifique,não é um resort e não tem nada extra,sequer tem portaria 24h,as 10 da noite já não se encontra mais ninguém para auxiliar a não ser por mensagem o que para mim não é favorável.Esse pequeno hotel é administrado pelo hotel da frente então melhor ficar na frente,no Longfellow Hotel
