This property’s information needs to be updated. The pictures shown of breakfast is incorrect. Breakfast is a self-serve toast and/or cereal unless you ask Lisa for breakfast, then you are given eggs, hash browns and a croissant as a choice. Breakfast is not served 7-10am, but 8-10am. Breakfast is NOT served on Sundays. The picture of the deck should be taken off as that is NOT available space to use. Also, the door to the first floor room needs to be fixed so it will close without having to lock it. The house cat found its way into our room at 2am and jumped on the bed! It was a shock! Our door was unlocked briefly so my friend could go to the w.c. Which is how the cat got in. Positive things - bed was comfortable!

Simple but comfortable and great value. My wife has back trouble with uncomfortable beds, and the King bed in the first floor room met her needs. Host was attentive and provided good service. Charming neighborhood with small market, coffee and bakery about a block's walk away. Easy to park on the street. Easy to drive to UBC and Kitsilano and Point Grey neighborhoods.

Street parking, room and beds were clean and comfortable - didn’t eat breakfast but used fridge downstairs to store leftover food. Host was friendly and available for anything we needed. Would stay again. One suggestion: having a full length mirror in room would be nice.

A nice little Bed and Breakfast located in a very convent location to Vancouver at a good price. The parking is great as well. The owner is super nice and friendly and asked us multiple times if we needed anything. She tried to make us as comfortable as possible which was very much appreciated. We did stay in the smaller room with three adults and I would recommend the larger room if available but it is manageable. We really enjoyed our stay and again it is super convent to access Vancouver. Vancouver is a beautiful city and this is the perfect place to stay outside the city!

Staff were wonderful. I love having access to the backyard every morning to enjoy the foliage and sunshine. Great having someone make eggs to start the day. Had shower every morning, as it was a very hot stay. Quiet and friendly atmosphere. Took long walks and the neighbourhoods were facinating. Would recommend this place to all.

It is like a house converted to several airbnbs, so a shared living space. Breakfast is included and owner is friendly, but must ask for breakfast and it is quite simple.

We enjoyed our stay at The Sunshine House. Mrs. Joy was very sweet and accommodating. She allowed us to check in a few hours early and stay an extra hour after checkout. She stored our luggage until our cruise boarding time. The bed was very comfortable.

I had some meetings at the University of British Columbia (UBC). There aren't many hotels near UBC and the hotels in Downtown Vancouver are rather far from campus. I thus found The Sunshine House on Expedia. It's a Bed-and-Breakfast in a neighborhood suburb (Dunbar, Point Grey, Kitsilano). It's free (street parking) and only a 10-min drive to UBC. So, I decided to take a chance. It's a large 2-story house (and basement) with about 5 guest rooms. The owner/family lives in basement.. The main floor has a few guest rooms and the dining area (where breakfast is served). The 2nd floor has the remaining guest rooms. I enjoyed the congeniality and hospitality of the owner (Lisa). They are helpful without being overly so (i.e. they leave you alone). They place is quiet and clean, the room/bed is comfortable. One is given 2 keys, one for the front door and the other for your room. There's always coffee (Keurig), hot water, and breakfast includes muffins, croissants, juice, etc. Lisa also offers guests eggs. I would definitely stay again and recommend to others. Downtown Vancouver is hectic with lots of traffic and hotel parking is expensive. Unless you really need to be in Downtown and/or require public transportation, The Sunshine House is a great option!

The room was clean, family was nice. A suggestion would be to put some railings down at the bottom as that last stair to get the sidewalk was very slippery and i fell. Other then that it was a great stay.

The best thing about Sunshine House is the location. A quiet, leafy area with enormous craftsmen houses. A safe area about 10-15 min drive from downtown. About a block away is a cute market and a couple of bakeries/cafes. The included breakfast is basic continental with lots of options -toast, yogurt, cereal, bacon, eggs, muffins, and endless coffee/tea. There’s a small fridge and microwave for guest use. Lisa, the owner, lives there with her family. It feels a little like staying at your friend’s grandma’s house, since my other experiences with B&bs were that they were guest only and catered to romantic weekends. Despite what other reviewers noted, there is no litterbox smell (I have cats). There is a musty/mildewy smell throughout the house (maybe why it smells like grandma’s?) and the linens need to be cleaned better. They smell like they were forgotten in the washing machine for a few days and have a funky smell like gym clothes. I think her cleaner needs to bleach them in hot water. Overall, it was an inexpensive place to rest my head in a quiet location. I am not sure I would stay again unless they can address the smell issue.

Property was in a nice area, but if you have a sensitive sense of smell, the litter box smell is overwhelming (i have a cat at home). Owner of thr house was friendly and accomidating.

This is a family home, not an accommodation. We booked for 3 nights, but left after a few hours because there was little privacy (could hear everyone in the house and they could easily hear us; only thing private about the bathroom was a lock on the door - you had to go through the front foyer and common area then down a hall to get to the bathroom). Also, a lot of noise (creaky floors, people talking and doing whatever it throughout the house), an overpowering smell of food, and overall, the place was unkempt. The pillows on our bed were dirty and stained, walls had chips out of them, there was dust and dirt on the windowsill area. A child let us in and handed us instructions after I asked if there would be someone telling us about the place. Instructions included not to leave valuables in the room. If you’re travelling, not sure where you’d leave your valuables. We should have read the reviews. There were a lot of warnings. Owner was unreachable to discuss our concerns or by Expedia when we raised concerns with them. She agreed to give us a partial refund, so lost about $300.00 plus the cost of the replacement hotel we fled to late that first night. Buyer beware!

Not much to like about this place. Terrible feline odor and cat wandered at night scratching door. Had to get Lysol spray to neutralize the smell and kill any germs. Distances to bus stop are exaggerated. If you enjoy the smell of chicken feet boiling all day you will love this place. Breakfast according to Expedia listing was nice but in reality pitiful.

Det virkede ubelejligt vi kom. Håndklæderne lugtede jordslået. Det virkede ikke som om de lad at lave morgenmad. Vi blev spurt om vi ville have æg og takkede ja, sagde vores søn kom om 5 minutter og han også gerne ville have æg, men det om aldrig. Vi fik 2 kedelige dagsgamle croissanter at dele. Bøtterne ned morgenmadsprodukter var næsten tomme. Sengene var gode.

Location is convenient enough for local transport into town. Unfortunately I found the room was small to accommodate 3 adults with luggage. One of the beds was broken but alternative arrangement was made for the 2nd night. Service was good, very friendly. Overall, good value for money

My stay was fine, this accommodation is very much a room within a family home which is in a fair condition. For the price, the proximity to UBC or downtown Vancouver is good. It is not a quiet house but I brought earplugs and a portable sound machine and was able to sleep. The king sized bed was comfortable but large for the room, pushed up against a wall and bruised me each time I walked past it. Linens were nice. Breakfast was offered (even on Sunday) but I did not have the time. Lisa seems a caring host. A general update and refresh of walls, furnishings and products could make this a more valuable property but as a budget option it does the job.

The Sunshine House was very nice in a very quiet neighborhood. The host was very nice as well. Our room was great with a big king sized bed. Our only issue was we were told there no breakfast served on Sundays because it’s their day off. This wasn’t mentioned to us until Sunday morning. Plus there was no adjustments in the price without a breakfast.

This is a beautiful house in a charming neighborhood. The owner is easy to communicate and welcoming. This place has everything you need ready for your vacation. We stayed in the room with the private bathroom and room itself was pretty spacious. Bathroom is tiny but functional and meets the needs.

We were glad that we had lots planned during our two-night stay at the sunshine house. Although the house has a large living room for guest use, our room was not a comfortable place to hang out. Our bedroom (there are three) was very cold; the walls are paper- thin – and the owners, who live in the building, actually practiced drums for a significant part of one afternoon. There were options for breakfast; we were pretty unimpressed, but they will make custom eggs. We were frustrated with running out of milk for coffee—the owner ran out to get more. That said, coffee is available around the clock with a Keurig type machine. There are no dairy alternatives or half-and-half or cream.

We are so happy that we stayed here. Lisa is a wonderful host, very accommodating, easy to reach out to with questions or to ask for recommendations. For those that want a charming experience where you will meet other travelers during breakfast, and want something that feels homey; this is a great pick for you. We were out and about all day long each of the days we were here, and it felt good knowing we would be able to relax when we got back and feel a break from the hustle of the city. The house is beautiful and the neighborhood is one you will want to walk around in. There is also a coffee shop a minute away walking that sells baked goods. It was perfect for us and our 5 year old. Thank you for welcoming us into your home, Lisa!

This is a family home, not an accommodation. We booked for 3 nights, but left after a few hours because there was little privacy (could hear everyone in the house and they could easily hear us; only thing private about the bathroom was a lock on the door - you had to go through the front foyer and common area then down a hall to get to the bathroom). Also, a lot of noise (creaky floors, people talking and doing whatever it throughout the house), an overpowering smell of food, and overall, the place was unkempt. The pillows on our bed were dirty and stained, walls had chips out of them, there was dust and dirt on the windowsill area. A child let us in and handed us instructions after I asked if there would be someone telling us about the place. Instructions included not to leave valuables in the room. If you’re travelling, not sure where you’d leave your valuables. We should have read the reviews. There were a lot of warnings. Owner was unreachable to discuss our concerns or by Expedia when we raised concerns with them. She agreed to give us a partial refund, so lost about $300.00 plus the cost of the replacement hotel we fled to late that first night. Buyer beware!

Street parking, room and beds were clean and comfortable - didn’t eat breakfast but used fridge downstairs to store leftover food. Host was friendly and available for anything we needed. Would stay again. One suggestion: having a full length mirror in room would be nice.

A nice little Bed and Breakfast located in a very convent location to Vancouver at a good price. The parking is great as well. The owner is super nice and friendly and asked us multiple times if we needed anything. She tried to make us as comfortable as possible which was very much appreciated. We did stay in the smaller room with three adults and I would recommend the larger room if available but it is manageable. We really enjoyed our stay and again it is super convent to access Vancouver. Vancouver is a beautiful city and this is the perfect place to stay outside the city!

Staff were wonderful. I love having access to the backyard every morning to enjoy the foliage and sunshine. Great having someone make eggs to start the day. Had shower every morning, as it was a very hot stay. Quiet and friendly atmosphere. Took long walks and the neighbourhoods were facinating. Would recommend this place to all.

We enjoyed our stay at The Sunshine House. Mrs. Joy was very sweet and accommodating. She allowed us to check in a few hours early and stay an extra hour after checkout. She stored our luggage until our cruise boarding time. The bed was very comfortable.

Simple but comfortable and great value. My wife has back trouble with uncomfortable beds, and the King bed in the first floor room met her needs. Host was attentive and provided good service. Charming neighborhood with small market, coffee and bakery about a block's walk away. Easy to park on the street. Easy to drive to UBC and Kitsilano and Point Grey neighborhoods.

Not much to like about this place. Terrible feline odor and cat wandered at night scratching door. Had to get Lysol spray to neutralize the smell and kill any germs. Distances to bus stop are exaggerated. If you enjoy the smell of chicken feet boiling all day you will love this place. Breakfast according to Expedia listing was nice but in reality pitiful.

Nette Familie, Betten waren ok, Frühstück für meinen Geschmack etwas wenig und (leider) nicht so wie auf den Fotos (etwas spartanischer)! City ist das t den Bus (Haltestelle keine zwei Minuten entfernt) zu erreichen (Fahrzeit ca. 15 Minuten)

I had some meetings at the University of British Columbia (UBC). There aren't many hotels near UBC and the hotels in Downtown Vancouver are rather far from campus. I thus found The Sunshine House on Expedia. It's a Bed-and-Breakfast in a neighborhood suburb (Dunbar, Point Grey, Kitsilano). It's free (street parking) and only a 10-min drive to UBC. So, I decided to take a chance. It's a large 2-story house (and basement) with about 5 guest rooms. The owner/family lives in basement.. The main floor has a few guest rooms and the dining area (where breakfast is served). The 2nd floor has the remaining guest rooms. I enjoyed the congeniality and hospitality of the owner (Lisa). They are helpful without being overly so (i.e. they leave you alone). They place is quiet and clean, the room/bed is comfortable. One is given 2 keys, one for the front door and the other for your room. There's always coffee (Keurig), hot water, and breakfast includes muffins, croissants, juice, etc. Lisa also offers guests eggs. I would definitely stay again and recommend to others. Downtown Vancouver is hectic with lots of traffic and hotel parking is expensive. Unless you really need to be in Downtown and/or require public transportation, The Sunshine House is a great option!

The best thing about Sunshine House is the location. A quiet, leafy area with enormous craftsmen houses. A safe area about 10-15 min drive from downtown. About a block away is a cute market and a couple of bakeries/cafes. The included breakfast is basic continental with lots of options -toast, yogurt, cereal, bacon, eggs, muffins, and endless coffee/tea. There’s a small fridge and microwave for guest use. Lisa, the owner, lives there with her family. It feels a little like staying at your friend’s grandma’s house, since my other experiences with B&bs were that they were guest only and catered to romantic weekends. Despite what other reviewers noted, there is no litterbox smell (I have cats). There is a musty/mildewy smell throughout the house (maybe why it smells like grandma’s?) and the linens need to be cleaned better. They smell like they were forgotten in the washing machine for a few days and have a funky smell like gym clothes. I think her cleaner needs to bleach them in hot water. Overall, it was an inexpensive place to rest my head in a quiet location. I am not sure I would stay again unless they can address the smell issue.

This property’s information needs to be updated. The pictures shown of breakfast is incorrect. Breakfast is a self-serve toast and/or cereal unless you ask Lisa for breakfast, then you are given eggs, hash browns and a croissant as a choice. Breakfast is not served 7-10am, but 8-10am. Breakfast is NOT served on Sundays. The picture of the deck should be taken off as that is NOT available space to use. Also, the door to the first floor room needs to be fixed so it will close without having to lock it. The house cat found its way into our room at 2am and jumped on the bed! It was a shock! Our door was unlocked briefly so my friend could go to the w.c. Which is how the cat got in. Positive things - bed was comfortable!

This a traveller's hostel kinda place, not so well kept or managed. The room was cold. The milk at breakfast on the first day was sour. The grapes were old and going brown. I would not recommend this place, especially for the price point.

Det virkede ubelejligt vi kom. Håndklæderne lugtede jordslået. Det virkede ikke som om de lad at lave morgenmad. Vi blev spurt om vi ville have æg og takkede ja, sagde vores søn kom om 5 minutter og han også gerne ville have æg, men det om aldrig. Vi fik 2 kedelige dagsgamle croissanter at dele. Bøtterne ned morgenmadsprodukter var næsten tomme. Sengene var gode.

The Sunshine House was very nice in a very quiet neighborhood. The host was very nice as well. Our room was great with a big king sized bed. Our only issue was we were told there no breakfast served on Sundays because it’s their day off. This wasn’t mentioned to us until Sunday morning. Plus there was no adjustments in the price without a breakfast.

Det virkede ubelejligt vi kom. Håndklæderne lugtede jordslået. Det virkede ikke som om de lad at lave morgenmad. Vi blev spurt om vi ville have æg og takkede ja, sagde vores søn kom om 5 minutter og han også gerne ville have æg, men det om aldrig. Vi fik 2 kedelige dagsgamle croissanter at dele. Fine in a pinch. Old house with a smell of humidity throughout and plenty of little quirks (windows didn’t quite shut, pillows were stained, towels smelled funky). Also being rooms in a house you will listen to everything around you (people leaving or arriving, bathroom notices and the such).

Location is wonderful. Leafy safe and quiet street. Lisa the host is very attentive and made tasty nutritious breakfasts. House is quiet with homelike feel.

The description by the Sunshine House on Hotels.com was very misleading. The room we reserved does not include a private bath. The bathroom was located down the hall from the bedroom and did not offer the privacy I expected as it’s adjacent to the nearby living room. The bedroom was extremely small and lacked any space to place our suitcases. Blotches of spackle were on the walls ( perhaps in preparation for painting the room?) and there were visible chips in the woodworking. The bed was much too high up and difficult to get into especially for seniors like myself. They did provide a step stool but not safe to use in the middle of the night. In addition there are 2 cats living in the house and allowed to roam everywhere including where food is prepared and served. There’s a slight odor of their presence. In general the place appeared worn with no noticeable improvements since they posted pictures years ago to advertise their place. Since I booked the room very far in advance and unfortunately did not read prior reviews that identified similar problems, I did not receive any type of partial refund after I decided to depart early. I spoke to the owner and tried to negotiate what I thought was a reasonable partial refund but to no avail. Buyer beware and avoid this place.

Beautiful street in a lovely neighbourhood and convenient for going to UBC graduations. Free street parking was a bonus. As for the B& B, I would say it was not quite what I expected. So this is Vancouver and for the price it is reasonable. However, I will caution you when reading the description. 1. Private bathroom- ours was not ensuite and was in a hallway at the top of the stairs, so not very private. 2. Garden view - our window looked out at the house next door. The other window had a massive table/desk which prevented us from looking out. Chairs would have been better. 3. English breakfast- not the one from England. There is a basic breakfast though which is fine. One day we missed the owner so never got the eggs. A few constructive suggestions: Bathroom needs the towel rack and toilet paper rack back up, and an overall update. Shower was fine - good water pressure and nice shampoos etc. The house itself is an old charming place with potential but it requires some updates and furniture could be placed in a more inviting way. Some cosy couches facing each other with a coffee table would be more inviting and comfortable to sit down and spend time in the shared space. Overall this was a reasonable option for a few days in Vancouver.
