Charlevoix House

Recommend you ask for specific room. Although we made reservations months in advance, we were put on third floor. Small narrow steep stairs to a not great room. It is like a hostel. Fine, just not what we expected. Noisy location on main road.

We recently had a great 4-night stay at the Charlevoix House. We thought Stephan, the innkeeper was wonderful and seemed to truly enjoy his role there. He was very attentive and went out of his way to ensure that our stay was a good one. His breakfast dishes were delicious and fresh every day. The house itself is showing its age and needs some tlc but we'd like to think that's part of the charm. The front porch floor was in need of a paint refresh, but other than that, our room and rest of the house was nice (squeaky floors and all). We'd much rather stay there than at a local hotel. The location is convenient for walking downtown Charlevoix. And we enjoyed meeting and talking to the other guests. Definitely will return.

I paid over $300 a day and had to park a block away on a public street because there are only 4 parking spaces 5 rented rooms. It is a very old house that has been converted into a B&B. The stairs are very steep and the stairway is longer than in a modern home. Seniors should limit their trips up and down those stairs. I was not impressed with type of coffee that was served for breakfast. (It was way too strong for my taste). Breakfast selections were limited. I would have liked to see some kind of danish or doughnuts. The bathroom was very small and so was the shower. While a drawbridge may be considered to be quaint, in reality it caused a traffic jam every half hour right outside our room. If I could find another place to stay I would have.

We came in very late we basically just slept a little while before catching the ferry to Beaver Island. The place was very nice, the parking was not so good if others patrons new how to park we had to park across the street at the other motel and walk across the street. I'm handicapped and didn't put that in my reservation and had to walk three flights of stairs. Overall nice place.

First floor sitting room is spacious and comfortable and the two-sided veranda porch is inviting to sit and converse or read.

Going up and down the steps to our 2nd floor room was difficult, but everything else was fantastic!!!!

Absolutely amazing time! The bed & pillow were so comfortable it felt like sleeping on a cloud. Homemade breakfast prepared by innkeeper was amazing & delicious. This B&B is only two blocks from walkable downtown Charlevoix. Many awesome shops & restaurants, ferry & nearby park. Nearby lighthouse & wonderful beach. We took an evening walk in the neighborhood by the B&B & every house had a beautiful front porch like the B&B. On our walk we found the old Charlevoix train station. The porch on the B&B had comfortable seating & even when it rained we were under cover so we were able to spend time visiting other guests out on the porch as well as in the dining room for the breakfast. Our room had very comfortable chairs & the fun part was a vintage bathtub (in addition to a separate modern shower). We will definitely stay at Charlevoix House again!

Tim was very friendly and helpful. The only drawback was it would have been nice to know ahead of time that our facilities were on third floor with no elevator. Since we are senior citizens and one with disability it wasn't easy climbing two flights of stairs.

Clean, spacious room and bathroom. Lovely breakfast. Wrap around porch was lovely to hang out on. Staff was friendly.

The house was totally run down. The carpet was filthy and the whole house needed painting. Weeds poked out of the “landscaping “. If we could have found somewhere else to stay we would have left. Not at all what I expected from Expedia and whoever owns this place. Terrible

In a great location to walk all over downtown. Rustic rooms in need of a deep cleaning and some sprucing up. WiFi really weak and could not watch TV in our room.

Disappointed! No one greeted us and found the evening staff in a room playing video games. TV wireless connection went out several times during the evening. Need to connect it directly via wire Internet. Wireless connection was difficult to connect on our computers. Only one electrical outlet with six plugs (one with an extension cord for the far side of the bed). Heard the traffic outside throughout the night. Floors squeezed when walked on. The bottom outside of the shower looked dirty and rusty. Breakfast was good but no one served and had to locate all by ourselves. No handicap access. All stairs to get into the house and to the bedrooms.

We had a very nice stay. The house is quite clean, although old. We specially appreciated the thoughtfulness's and friendliness of the Innkeeper, Stefan. He makes all feel welcome and he’s a good cook! The location is great. We walked to everything in town. If you like homey, warm and convenient, this is the place for you.

First off I read reviews but not all reviews. That's on me. When you pull up to Charlevoix House first thing I notice is how the grounds were so unkept. The grass was really tall. There are no flowers or anything to make the place look inviting or pleasant. The porch could use a good coat of paint that would say a lot for it. When I arrived inside the door it took several minutes for Steffan to come down the stairs to wait on me. Place has dirty floors, dirty carpets going up the stairs. Just unkept. There was a cat in the hallway. Nowhere on their site does it say they have a cat. I like cats but my husband is slightly allergic to cats. Luckily he was able to handle the stay. The bed because the floor is very slanted, the head of the bed was lower than our feet. Kind of an uncomfortable night of sleep. But the room was cute. Bathroom was okay. Toothpaste splatter all over the back wall. Window unit for AC. The curtain was too long and we didn't want to block the AC cuz it was hot. The lights from the hotel next door were really bright and was a nuisance for the night. Got up to have breakfast. It smelled great. Checked out the room for breakfast and there was absolutely no place to sit, super tight, super small. We left and had breakfast someplace else. Which defeats the point staying at a B&B is to have breakfast. This place does have potential. Needs updated furnishings,wall treatments etc. CLEANING!!!

The bed and breakfast was very nice. Breakfast is wonderful and the inn keeper was kind and helpful. The home is neat and clean. Bed was comfortable. Close to town and walking is easy for getting downtown.

The Charlevoix House is in a wonderful location, about 100 yards from the bridge that leads to downtown. Breakfast by Steffan was more than adequate. The room was ample in size. Our recommendations: it needs to be updated electronically (number of outlets), the bathroom shower had some mold on the caulking, the lighting could be improved in the room. We were there four nights and the breakfast each morning was about the same. Variety could help. Typical hotel toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc) were not adequate or not provided.

Stefan was amazing. Made me feel so welcome. The room was all ready for me, super clean and comfortable and a great homemade breakfast before I left. I will be back. Thank you!

WiFi and tv were worthless. Rendered a “good” stay down to “average” at best. In this day and age you can do much better!

Nice breakfast. Conveniently located to shopping and food.

Check in was incredibly easy as the staff were ready for our arrival. The room was the perfect size for two people and very comfortable. Shops, dining, beach and great walks are right there ready and waiting.

We had a great night’s sleep in the spacious first floor suite.

I’ve been coming up to Charlevoix for over 20 years and have stayed with friends or at crappy hotels. The Charlevoix House kept popping up as I was looking to book some travel this summer. How have I need this place since they’ve opened (or re-opened)? The location is perfect. Literally a two minute walk to downtown. The house is super cute and clean and prices are very reasonable. This place is way better than most of the hotels in this area. It is also way better in person! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Check-in and check-out was easy. The Charlevoix House has now become my new summer go-to. Only downsides: Wi-Fi is awful. The TV would barely stay on and was spotty the entire stay. They often don’t lock the front door at night (which is not safe), and the traffic can be a bit much as you are right in the main street.

The breakfast was absolutely wonderful! Our room was a standard queen, probably the most modest room there. It faced the main street so there was street noise. The bathroom sink and floor looked to be newly renovated. However the shower was old and a towel rack was broken. This b & b could be a 10 with a little more TLC.

The \'Innkeeper\' of the B&B called at 430 wanting to know when we were checking in. And said he was leaving a key in the door to our room and just let ourselves in. Other than that, the hosts were awol all weekend. "Breakfast" was a couple of jugs of precut fruit, yoghurt, and bagels left on the counter- we have had better breakfast at an express hotel, definitely not bed and breakfast quality. Our room was on the third floor and the stairs were super narrow and sketchy- not sure how they even meet code. The door had a gap almost 2 inches at the bottom, which let both light and sound in all night long. The room itself looked like it was the former servants quarters that they slapped some paint on and decided to rent out- very disappointing. We love Charlevoix and have never had an experience as underwhelming as this.

The location is perfect for area events. Rooms and common areas are nice. Staff was disengaged and interacted as little as possible with guests who were left to scavenge on their own for food and utensils in the kitchen. This has not been so in prior years

The place was cute and the Inn Keeper when we arrived was very nice but the breakfast was extremely limited choices and portions were very small. When my husband asked if they had anything different the morning keeper was very rude. When I checked out I got the same rude & highly unfriendly attitude. Location was excellent though.

The property manager / inn keeper is phenomenal! 8-star service.

Our room was a nice size, it was clean. The innkeeper was almost nonexistent—he left a note for us with check-in information, didn’t see him at breakfast or when we checked out, and we were there for 2 days! Breakfast was left on a hot plate in a cramped dining area, and by the time we got down to breakfast, it did not look appetizing (we went out for breakfast on day 2). Had to track down the innkeeper to get more coffee (he didn’t seem pleased). It was just not a very charming place to stay, and we won’t be back.

Stefan fixed a wonderful breakfast for us after our one night stay. He provided directions to the beach and nearby restaurants. Probably the only issue wasn't with the accommodations, but with our timing staying in this tiny town. Many of the restaurants were closed on our Wednesday stay, so our options were more limited than they would have been on the weekend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re heading to Charlevoix, do yourself a favor and stay at Charlevoix House. Steffan is hands-down one of the best innkeepers we’ve ever met—welcoming, friendly, and somehow always around when you need something, but never in your space when you don’t. The place itself was cozy, clean, and full of charm, but it’s Steffan’s hospitality that really made it feel like home. From great local recommendations to just genuinely good conversation, he made our stay feel more like visiting an old friend (except with way better coffee and perfectly made beds). Highly recommend. We’ll definitely be back—as long as Steffan’s still running the show.

Great accommodations. Had everything I needed for my stay, including a homemade breakfast. The bed was comfy too! The location was walkable to restaurants and shopping. Would definitely stay sgain!

The place was okay for the price we booked. Staff were nice and helpful. Rooms were clean and the setup was okay - the shower area was barely large for a single person. The stairs to the third floor were very narrow and difficult to climb - one step on the corner was barely there. The floor in the room was a piano - it creaked loudly on every step. We were constantly worried that we were disturbing other guests. Breakfast was just stuff bought from store and set in a kitchen.

We were there for 2 nights & I have been to other bed & breakfast places. This place is not a bed & breakfast just bed! We went to breakfast both mornings before 9am & there was no breakfast left. Our room was dirty. The bed was clean. Rey disappointed for what we paid to stay there. I do not recommend staying here!

The home was very clean. Stephen provided a delicious healthy breakfast with a lot of variety for everyone. He was also very accommodating with giving us a first floor bedroom as I have some disabilities. It’s a very historic house and we enjoyed that. But I was disappointed to see all of the plastic and silk flowers, especially in Charlevoix, which is filled with planters and gardens full of flowers.

Good location. We had the 20’s room but privacy was an issue, no blinds at the windows ground floor next to parking so had to keep curtains closed all the time. No staff, no info on breakfast, where, times, we even just dumped the key when we left. Breakfast was terrible. Paper plates, some plastic, poor quality breads just in the middle of the table with some spreads, an old temperamental 2 slice toaster , I could go on… Sunday, same but no hot, added sugary donuts in a box. Shower was powerful and plenty hot water and the room was clean. The old bathroom basin was well, old and in need of refurbishment.
