The Mulberry Hotel

Dated facilities, but clean. Gym not functional at all - located upstairs, no A/C, probably former storage room. Diner next door good, but very limited hours! Old bed - you will sleep with your legs elevated!

This was a pass through stay, and we left too early to get breakfast, but the staff was very friendly, the room clean and comfortable. The facility is fairly new, everything was up to date. A nice perk for longer stays is a washer/dryer on the first floor. We did not hear any road noise. No tub but we preferred the shower stall anyway. It’s worth noting that the water is very hard; the soap and shampoo didn’t lather well, even shaving lotion did not moisturize as it should.

Staying here many times during the last 2 years. Hotel is not what it use to be! Was told was under new ownership and management. Now it makes sense! Always use the fitness center when I come. It has definitely gone down. Made the room smaller and no tv. The machines all need replacing or repaired. What a disappointment!! My husband is very disappointed with breakfast! Only thing I really like is that some rooms have kitchens. If those 2 things(fitness rm or breakfast) important to you, I would not recommend coming here.

Hotel was clean and staff were very friendly and helpful. In a very quiet area with plenty of parking. Good breakfast.

A decent property. Quiet. No frills. Reasonably priced. The area overall feels safe. I’ve stayed a few times over the past year. A few minor upgrades could go a long way. The ice maker on the second floor has been “out of order” on every visit. More importantly, some doors and locks need to be repaired and reinforced, primarily for safety, but also for aesthetics. It seems to mostly serve temporary workers in the area. It’s probably more than adequate for that or a quick overnight stay.

Terry at the front desk was wonderful. Only negatives about our stay was no pool and the bathroom fan was extremely loud.

Everything was good, except I had to go to the 2nd floor to get ice. I tried 2 times and the ice machine on the first floor didn't work.

Hotel was just ok no pool lots of work being done on the inside gnats attacked me as soon as I opened my food and were plenty in the bathroom front desk attempted to move me to another room but the new room was not clean so I kept the room and ended up buying spray at the dollar tree up the road staff was helpful and nice tho

What a wonderful little gem this is. Exceptionally kind staff, helped me out in a pinch and did so with a smile. Very clean facility. Comfy bed. I would for sure recommend staying here.

I gave cleanliness and comfort an average because the shower area in the bathroom had mold on the side and was brown residue like as if it hadn’t been clean

We stayed at The Mulberry Hotel while in town for the state swim meet and were very pleased with our experience. The property was clean, well-maintained, and conveniently located near a variety of shops and restaurants. It made our stay stress-free and comfortable. Highly recommend.

Room was spotless and shower was nice

Hotel was very nice, room was nice and clean but had a smell like someone smoked in there and they were trying to cover it up.

The property was clean, but our room has awful mold and rusting around the door frame of the bathroom . We switched rooms, we had to clean off Cob webs from near the ac unit in the new room . A little concerning with mold around multiple areas in hotel.

Our room 215 is an ada accessible room. This room has the worst stench you could possibly imagine. Unfortunately we were in a rush and just needed to sleep for the night. However, the smell is mostly a strong, wet and sour urine odor. Resembling kind of a nursing home or hospital uncleaned room. I still feel like I can taste and smell that odor today almost exactly 8 hours after leaving that hotel. You can clearly see that they make minimum effort to keep up with any real deep cleaning. Just a fast fabulous mop session and windex and some bleach and call it a day. The ac makes the room feel as though you’re in a natatorium. Wet hot humid musty and muggy. To say the least we will definitely not recommend this location being that we stay in lake Charles a lot.

We chose this hotel for its 8.5+ ratings on Hotels.com and other platforms, with great reviews. As fans of clean hotels, it seemed perfect. However, our stay was a letdown.The front desk was empty on arrival. After ringing the bell, a lone staff member emerged from folding laundry in the back. The room looked clean at first, but I stepped in a dried puddle of what seemed like urine in the bathroom—one of the worst hotel experiences ever. My husband confirmed it looked like urine. I called the desk, but after 20 minutes with no response, he cleaned it himself so I could use the bathroom, using a hand towel as a mop. The same staff member arrived later.That night, choosing between two queen beds (instead of a king), I noticed a greasy, wet spot on one headboard. It wiped off, confirming it was fresh, so we slept in the other bed. The next morning, when I went to take photos of the headboard stain for management, I saw makeup stains all over the comforter. Then, I noticed a crusty, feces-like spot on the chair where my husband worked.This hotel was a major disappointment. Understaffing and poor cleanliness don’t match its high ratings. They need more staff and better maintenance. We won’t return or recommend it.

Had a few issues with the room. Patch in the shower where the was a hole, next to the showeron the wall the base board was detached from the wall, and there was a whole behind the door. Saw one small roach and a couple dead ones. Wasn't horrible but definitely wasn't a great experience.

Very nice hotel but the bed was very firm (too firm for my wife and I) and the shower water flow was way too slow. Saves water but not our preference.

The bed was super low. It was relatively comfortable. Based on the low rate, it was a good deal.

Front desk staff very professional and friendly. (Yay, Terri). The bed very comfortable and had everything I needed. I have already made a reservation for my next stay. Next to fast food, one block from grocery store. Very Convenient!

Very noisy during the night from outside and inside

It was a new, clean, nice hotel. But they charged me $11 at check-in for taxes they say hotels.com didn’t charge me. The walls hardly block any sound at all, and the doors don’t latch properly unless slammed. I found the bed too hard, and I’m one who prefers a firm mattress.

Absolutely the most clean and fresh hotel room I have ever stayed in!! Kudos to the staff for a job well done. Staff was very friendly. The AC will freeze you out. Only negatives are: bed is not comfortable at all and blanket is super thin; noise from upstairs water/toilet flush is very loud; walls are paper thin. This is good for a quick one-night stay for a casino visit.

Room was great except it was so humid in the room, it was hard to get it cooled down. Otherwise rest of the hotel was an iceberg!

Pros. Property clean and safe. Staff friendly and helpful. Cons. Walls are super thin. Unfortunately the people in the room next to us stayed up until 3am talking loudly. Could hear every word. The bed and pillows are very hard. Also had no soap in the room. Had to use shampoo to wash with. Won’t stay here again.

This is a hidden gem in the Westlake/Lake Charles area. Rooms are very comfortable and clean, and all the staff are super friendly.

We stayed in a double queen room since all king rooms had been reserved already. We attempted to sleep in the bed closest to the AC, but it was so hot, we were uncomfortable. That bed gets essentially no air flow from the AC. We had to drop the thermostat to 64 and move to the bed closest to the door to be semi-comfortable.

I always enjoy staying here at The Mulberry. Staff is friendly, the room is always clean and a good stay. Their little breakfast they have is adequate for the need and I will always stay here when in town for work.

Have stayed at this hotel a few times with no problems, but on this occasion room we were given had not been cleaned. We checked in at 6pm, and had to leave for an engagement at 7:30 pm and room was still not ready. Ended up having to change in lobby bathroom. Hope this was a one time thing, because we are usually happy with this property. Expedia did give a $25 credit for the mix up, but feel it should have been more.

When we arrived, I had to ring the bell twice before a toothless woman came running around the corner, pulling up her bra and her dress, and finally running her hands through her hair before sitting down at the desk. She asked for my last name and the spelling three times before she finally got it in the system. She told me I didn't have a reservation and the hotel was overbooked, so I needed to find my own accommodations. I went back to my car to get my confirmation number and had to ring the bell and wait for her to emerge from whatever activities she was involved in, this time wiping her face and mouth. She was clearly on meth or pain pills because she kept grinding her gums, blinking hard, moving her head fore and back while looking at the screen, closing one eye to look as she typed with her index fingers, and constantly licking her lips. She turned her little screen around and showed me every reservation due to arrive, which is a HUGE NO-NO and violation of privacy. I've worked in hotels for 31yrs and never have I ever encountered a front desk worker exchanging sexual favors for drugs, but I strongly feel like this was the case at Mulberry. My hotel chain does not have any properties in the area or I would've stayed with them at an employee discount, all while receiving Ritz service. I probably wouldn't have stayed even if my reservation was found because there were around twenty different groups of people all standing in the parking lot smoking weed and talking loudly.

Very clean and the staff is so friendly. The night shift attendant found out we had to be out earlier than breakfast is served and he made breakfast early for our crew to eat.

The property structure is cheap metal but clean inside. Staff was very nosy and invaded our privacy a bit too much with questions that were very personal to us.

Booking through Expedia was easy however, hotel didn’t have reservation on file when we arrived. I called Expedia and they sent info quickly, just inconvenient. They put us in room that smelled like smoke and had Funyuns inside AC unit. I asked for another room which they provided but they were annoyed that I asked. I was told they needed credit card on file for incidentals but I was charged again for stay even though they received my payment from Expedia. I called about duplicate charge and was told only manager could refund me. Days went by with no call from manager. When I called manager she knew nothing about it, she confirmed I was charged twice and that she would refund me. Refund was never given! She stated her computer system would not allow refund and that she would call the owner to correct this issue. It’s been over a week with no call from hotel. No correction was made. I had to file a dispute with my credit card company. I would not advise going through the headache of booking this hotel.

This hotel was clean, quiet and easy access from I-10. Would definitely recommend it. We will use it again when in Lake Charles. The price was very reasonable.

We had a very good experience at this hotel. It was very clean and the room was very spacious. The location was perfect and easy to get to the Casinos. I would definitely stay again when we go back to Louisiana.

It’s out in the hood but very clean

This hotel is really a diamond in the rough. I’ve stayed here several times and I have always had a great experience. There are several dining options nearby and parking is very easy. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. This hotel looks like it was just built yesterday.

Very nice hotel with a good breakfast.

It was an affordable place to stay while visiting the casino. Fast drive to the casino without spending an outrageous amount of money for the weekend. Breakfast was good.

The receptionist wasn’t very welcoming, she could have been friendlier The bathroom fan was so loud to the point where we had to use the restroom without turning the light on, the toilet bowl was stained. The air conditioner was super loud The bed was horrible, so were the pillows, way too firm it broke my back. Breakfast was lacking, not enough food put out for the guest, and they were completely out of milk.

The night stay was quiet and great! Clean place. The breakfast needs improvement the eggs and sausage were cold.

All in all it was okay. The fire alarm did go off randomly at 1 am which was annoying. Our room was nice and clean, and breakfast was amazing especially the biscuits and gravy Will definitely stay here next time! 😁
