Best Western The George Hotel, Swaffham

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights while attending a concert at Sandringhan house, property was easy to find and had ample parking. Check-in was very straight forward, and receptionist very friendly and welcoming, room was very clean and cosy, and had all of the amenities required, and expected. Had a meal in the restaurant and food was excellent, as was breakfast in the mornings, and service was excellent, again all staff very friendly and welcoming. All in all, hotel is a great place to stay, some of the previous reviews state that the hotel is a little tired, but then again it is a 13th century property, so what would you expect!!?. My wife also left a personal item in the room when we left, contacted the hotel when we arrived home, and they located it, and posted it back to us. All in all we enjoyed our stay, and wouldn't hesitate in returning, and thank you to all of the staff that looked after us.

Plenty of parking, building and reception looked clean and well maintained. However - price charged not price quoted & booked online and once into original part of hotel things didn't look so good. Paintwork throughout needs completely renewing. Being an old building we accept that layout can be 'quirky' but not only did floors creak, everything else did! - bed, chair doors, headboard (not even attached to bedframe). Bathroom was miniscule, though usable, but concerned if had this room in middle of winter how cold it would be as no visible signs of heating? Room and bathroom overall clean but tired and very basic for £101. Breakfast was good (included in price) and available from 7am which suited us as we had a long journey. If you cosider £101 reasonable we had spent the previous night elsewhere at a guest house and paid £85 for far superiour everything! We use Best Western quite a bit around the country and feel that standards have slipped since lockdown and have not improved. Meal in bar was lovely and all items reasonably priced.

PARKING ON SITE VERY CONVIENIENT

The George Hotel is a lovely old building with helpful staff and I enjoyed my stay here. Full marks for providing a locked room to store bicycles in; slightly fewer marks for also hosting a large wedding party, though it's good to see business coming their way. I was surprised to find on my departure that I had already paid for my stay; apparently that was done on booking in, but without telling me or giving me a receipt. I'm quite happy with paying at that point, but it would have been good to know.

It was OK for an overnight stay as we needed somewhere close to Sandringham for a concert. Good FREE parking. Very nice breakfast with lots of choice.

The hotel itself is in need of a refurb. But for 1 night away it was acceptable. There was black mould around the bath and the shower head was clogged up with limescale. The room itself needed redecorating and a new bathroom. The bed was nice and big but rock hard so we hardly slept. It was like trying to sleep on the floor. We both had to have painkillers in the morning due to the discomfort. I did point all this out to reception on check out. On the plus side the breakfast was good.

The staff were excellent. Tried very hard to assist and were very pleasant. However, the building was dated. Room was dirty, no fan in the bathroom, the ambience of the room was unpeasant. the bathroom was ill equipped. The shower didnt work so I had to take a bath, then the water didnt go down the drain, just sat there!

Absolutely awful stay, I could hear every word people were saying in the corridor outside my room. The smoking area was outside my window so all I could smell was people’s cigarette smoke all night. There was blood stains on my sheets, broken edges in the bathroom, dirty shower curtain, holes in the bath, toilet roll holder was above the toilet so hard to reach while sitting in the toilet. Trip hazard step into bathroom so stubbed my foot several times. Disabled parking bay was a tiny space next to the smoking are with a wooden post so you couldn’t open the door wide enough. Pillows were flat as paper, kettle full of lime scale and springs in bed popping out. Towels had brown stains on them absolute awful nights sleep due to noise levels of people talking loudly outside window smoking constant slamming of door to reception outside my room. The only good part of the room was Netflix on tv and the blackout blinds everything else was very badly in need of update or good clean. Poorly finished off workmanship from whoever the handyman was with sockets on their sides and bad finishing

General condition of the whole hotel was very poor, moldy bathroom.

The lady behind reception was very polite and considerate however the lady in charge at the the bar and dinner was extremely rude and abrasive. No drinking water is supplied by the hotel. The site is run down and needs a good uplift, carpets have not been cleaned in years, wooden floor boards seem like they could fail at any time and staircases handrails could fail at any time. I could go on and on. I’d never recommend this hotel to anyone!

Unfortunately, the conditions of my stay were far from satisfactory, and I am requesting a full refund for the experience. The following issues were encountered during my visit: 1. **Excessive Noise from Water System**: Every time the water ran through the system, whether in the room or from neighbouring rooms, there was an unbearably loud noise, which disrupted my rest multiple times throughout the stay. 2. **Inadequate Curtains**: The curtains in the room were ineffective at blocking light. I had to keep the windows open for ventilation, which meant that I could not achieve complete darkness in the room. This caused discomfort and disrupted my sleep. 3. **Exposed Electrical Cables**: There were exposed electrical cables sticking out of the wall near the headboard of the bed. This was not only unsightly but also raised serious safety concerns. 4. **Bed Bugs**: Most concerning of all, I discovered bed bugs in the room. This issue is a serious health and hygiene concern and, in my opinion, completely unacceptable for any hotel, particularly one that claims to offer quality accommodations.

Good basic room, nice beds. Heavy to open room door, large chip in bath enamel, no usb sockets, no air conditioning. Friendly staff. The whole block needs a make over, take out bath and fit large low rise shower tray (bath not good for access). Dark brown wood is oppressive. Air conditioning a must these days.

Rooms are very tired and small. Chair broken, Shower in poor condition, lighting broken, wallpaper peeling off, Wifi very slow. Not a pleasant experience. Staff were excellent when I spoke to them about the room, however unable to resolve. Would not stop here again as the price charged does not reflect the room.

The hotel is a little dated and on a very hot day of the year the heat in the room was stifling even though bathroom was seperate the radiator was still on which didnt help

Unfortunately the hotel is is need of an update. We had the first room (51) on the ground floor. This backed onto a courtyard outside the kitchen. It was noisy and there was a "hume" from some kind of machinery that kept kicking in. The heating was not on in the evening, despite it being only 2 degrees outside. For the sake of convenience, we would stay again.

Hotel is a bit tired looking . Staff Friendly. Would have liked a quieter room as requested as next to a heavy door which with people using kept banging . Otherwise room was fine

Two nights to enable us to attend a concert at Sandringham. Room was large but floors all creak alarmingly.

We just stayed for one night. Our room was clean but dated. The beds had seen better days. Breakfast was fairly awful. Burnt bacon, poor selection of fruit and pastries and a fruit salad that had seen better days. Solid scrambled egg and muffins that you couldn’t cut into. We had dinner and that was absolutely delicious. In spite of the breakfast and the dated room we enjoyed our stay. It would have been nice to have a ground floor room with a shower rather than a shower over a bath which ( for me) is inaccessible .

Tired decor, bed only OK, hard thin pillows. Shower good. Check in OK. Grumpy staff at breakfast. OK vfm, would stay again but only if other options not available

Night staff person was somewhat rude and abrupt. Room was ok but very tired and outdated.

The service for food was poor, kept waiting for over and hour while other people were being served. They did wave the food cost after I complained.

Kept up most the night with the smoke alarms going off every 10 minutes applied for a refund and was denied one . Which I find appalling

Reception staff, very polite and helpful hotel could do with an upgrade but perfect for what I needed

On check in we asked if we could get a drink however told the bar was closed. We were given a registration form which I completed but forgot to sign, the older lady rather rudely reminded me and then handed me the key with directions to the room. After wandering around for a while I realised the room number on the key was the other side of the hotel which we eventually found. After unpacking and making a drink she phoned our room and said we were in the wrong one, apologised and asked us to move promising my husband ( who she seemed to be more polite to) a drink when the bar opened. We packed and vacated to the new room however the smell of drains from the bathroom was unbearable. My husband went down to reception and we were eventually given the room opposite. After repacking for the second time we moved, we had just got unpacked when she knocked on the door demanding the old key so she could look to see what she needed to do and see the problem. She was more bothered what housekeeping needed to do as we had been in 2 rooms now. She then retracted the offer of a drink as we’d requested to move. The rooms were very dated, the standard of cleanliness was questionable and the bedsheets had marks on, the quilt was lumpy, however we accepted the room and stayed. The lady at the reception was unwelcoming, rude and definitely spoke more politely to my husband than myself. All if the staff we interacted with were unfriendly, breakfast,I will be generous and say just edible.

Had a very good experience and the staff were excellent especially in trying to sort out minor issues. Special thanks to the maintenance man who sorted out our tv. Please feed this back to the staff.

Hotel nice but dated, clean throughout, floors creak but due to age cannot be helped. Needs a renovation throughout, water leak marks, loose toilet seat, stained carpets etc in our room. In the centre of Swaffham close to kings lynn and surrounding, we were visiting family in RAF Marham about 10/15 minutes drive.

Excellent for us, as a base to explore properties around Swaffham.

Really close to the centre of this wonderful town was able to rest on my midway journey walking Peddarsway. Enjoyed the area and the pubs.

We had a fantastic huge room and bed with a large ensuite bathroom equipped with bath and double shower. The building is old so sloping floors etc expected, its like an aladdins cave, but we were happy with food, breakfast was a great portion and lots of choice. We had dinner too and a good price for what we had. All the staff were friendly and accommodating.

George Hotel was a lovely old hotel and as a lot of old hotels has no air conditioning. Our stay was during a heatwave but they did provide a fan in the room which was much appreciated. The staff were very lovely and very helpful. The food in restaurant was really good.

We had a much better room this time and this made our stay so much better. Staff good and the food was excellent. Does need a bit of TLC but understand that is in the pipeline
