The Windmill Hotel - Alford

I have stayed here previously and found it comfortable, clean and peaceful. Nice bar area to relax. On this stay there was an issue with my original room but it was handle extremely well by the assistant manageress and she even upgraded me for the issue I had with my original room. Very well handled courteous and apologetic. Got to stay in the Thomas Paine Suite. See picture.

Quite a charming, somewhat historic location with a view over the Marketplace ((Tom Paine suite). Limited resources, no food available, but local takeaways OK. Room comfortable. Parking good.

Good carpark and quiet for a Saturday afternoon served our needs as only needed somewhere to sleep for a family get together

Great position, local easy parking! Nice rooms, well equiped, nice barhroom, comfortably beds. Lovely Bar downstairs, and good staff.. Would stay again!!

For the cost I can’t complain to much, very disappointed with the fact that they couldn’t provide any food options, didn’t like the fact that there wasn’t any sort of net curtains so you were either on full display to the public or you had to have the curtains drawn no secondary glazing so when the council workmen started putting up the market stalls @6am that was me awake. The bar had a good choice of drinks at very competitive prices, car parking was good over all it served my purpose for somewhere to sleep and a good chip shop just around the corner and the hotel dinner supply me with a plate and cutlery so I could eat in my room

We stayed in the Windmill’s 2 bedroomed apartment. It was huge, extremely well equipped and with a fabulous view onto the market place. We really enjoyed our stay, especially being able to have our dog with us. Thank you, we will be back!

The staff were fab and have us an extra hour before check out due to extraordinary circumstances which was much appreciated. The room was immaculate and the hotel is dog friendly. Check out the Willows tea rooms for amazing breakfast

Great hotel, friendly helpful staff good parking

It was a nice and very easy trip. The hotel was lovely. The staff were great. The bar was great. They recommended a nice café around the corner of breakfast. Great time all round.

There was an overwhelming odour of cigarette some in the room, we advised the lady on reception, who seemed to acknowledge this (really can't understand why?) and gave us some room freshener. As I suffer from asthma, i didn't sleep well at all. The smoke detector in the room was covered up with a bag (have picture), which really concerned me. The whole hotel was very untidy, stained carpets, musty odour, need a good bit of TLC and lick of paint everywhere. A very unpleasant experience all round.

Staff are great and very hospitable. Suite style rooms are large but ours needed a deep clean in the bathroom and around the dusty furniture. The TV reception was a bit hit or miss if you walked nearby it. A mix of old and new furniture, the bed was super comfy

The Windmill was perfect for its locality near to the relatives we were there to visit. We had a beautiful big room, overlooking the market square. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well. The staff were so friendly and helpful. My only negative would be that although it had an overall look of cleanliness, it really needed a deep clean. The linoleum in the bathroom was coming away around the eges of the room and was full of dust. Having said that it wouldnt stop us from staying there again.

Wasn’t the best condition. Did the job for one night. But one of us has to sleep on the sofa and it was very stained. The fridge was very dirty. I wouldn’t want to stay again. But like I said it did the job.

So where do i start, First,the dirt is a joke, cobwebs finger marks,bath scum dust food on the tables for previous people, poor attempt of hoovering,and crumbs under your feet. if you want a cleaned room, don’t come here. i think we left it cleaner than when we arrived. Second the noise if you want quiet the rooms connect by a door that you can literally hear everything through plus if they go to the toilet through the night the hall way lights are on sensors so it lights up your hall way aswell. Third noise-go on a weekend, you hear everything doors bang due to no soft closes,banging about in the bathrooms plus again the door between with the glazed window which you can literally hear everything through so if you have neighbours good luck. To be honest, the rooms are decorated lovely but the housekeeping is shocking if they had a better cleaner than it would be a lot better. light and sound through the night not good! If they did this it be a great little stay over place but at the minute i wouldnt bother unless you want to have a disturbed night and feel more dirty then you walked in after a full day out. Sorry but I wouldn't come again! For £176 per night you’d expect it to be clean,carpets were absolutely filthy and the rooms stunk of fust. This is from a none karen just fed up of the lack of thought and cleanliness person!!

I was attending a funeral at Alford Crematorium and the previous hotel that I stayed in had closed down (The Half Moon) as this would have been my preferred choice. The room was very spacious, but as you couldn't open the window it was very hot and comfortable. The bed would have benefitted from an extra pillow each side and on the 2nd night of our stay we put towels underneath the single pillow! On the 2nd day of our stay when we returned our bed had been made up but that was it, bins had not been emptied, toilet roll not replaced, nor tea, coffee and milks replaced! Although we did get an apology when we asked for coffee and milk I shouldn't have had too! We sat in the bar area on the evening and it was embarrassing to hear the staff moaning between themselves which is fine, but do it in private, not in front of paying guests. Appalled to find that in the Gents toilet by the bar the Hand Soap had run out and the Electric Hand Dryer wasn't working, but a blue towel had been put in there instead, but with constant handling this had become soggy! The property has seen some renovations but clearly there is still a lot to do. The beer garden area is run down and not at all welcoming, nor the carpet on the ground by the rubbish bins that was mouldy or the overflowing rubbish bins. Will I recommend this hotel? - No. Will I return in the future? - No. Was it worth the £69 we paid per night (this is for room only as they don't do breakfast) ? - No

The room was large, clean and attractive and even had a four poster bed. But we were disappointed to find out on arrival that the hotel had closed it's restaurant so there were no meals available. Whilst there were good local options for breakfast, there were no other eat in restaurants open for an evening meal in Alford. Our room looked over the town square with a huge bay window, but this offered little privacy so we had to keep the curtains closed. The room was warm but there was no ventilation and none of the windows opened.

Lovely hotel but could do with some money spending on it like this mattress didn’t make me feel very comfortable

It is a really nice place. The room we stayed in had a new window over a old window so was unable to open the old window to let any air in

Nice location and impressive hotel room

The property was in a lovely little town with its own private parking. Very clean room and friendly staff. The only downside was the room was absolutely red hot with double windows (old sash windows with double glazing over the top) no ventilation or airflow in the room.

Landlady was very pleasant and the rooms very clean.

Friendly service, including the suggestions for breakfast venues within walking distance. Handy parking, and good value for money.

Lovely lady on the front desk at check in and great room, nice and big for our family. Really comfy beds and a bath in the bathroom!

The central location makes it ideal to find anything needed and parking very easy/convenient. Even calling the contact number early morning was met with a sleepy but cordial response. Also nice to hear about the “receptionist”, barman and information supplier’s enthusiastic interests and hobbies. Thank you young sir. Strve

Super venue, lovely room, fab little town

Lovely hotel. Warm and friendly welcome. The room was modern and very clean with everything we needed. Lovely view over the market square. Surprisingly quiet too.. we left our window open overnight and wasn’t disturbed once. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

There was no food available bar time were cut due to bekng qiuet. Coming down from room there was an unpleasant smell.
