I have some complaints about the room, wifi is not working I called reception but no answer, and the shower water was so weak that it was impossible to get the shampoo out of my hair. the lift was out of order and we had to walk up with luggage three flights of stairs to get to our room. the pool was clean but the sauna was out of order.

Beautiful grounds, well furbished rooms & friendly staff who are keen to help. Perfect place for a chill out break. The pool is warm, and the area is well maintained. The changing rooms for the pool are clean but could do with some maintenance. Breakfast was great. There was a large selection of hot & continental breakfast items. 100% recommended this hotel.

It was a commination of a few things. The room was lovely, beds were very comfortable, we enjoyed the pool. Loved the healthy breakfast choices in the morning.

Adequate for what we wanted for our day at Royal Ascot. Very golf orientated for non golfers. Poor directional signing to get from major roads to hotel minor roads approach. Even poorer signing at the hotel for parking and reception directions . Signage that does exist is small and difficult to read from the car. Your description of a garden view room was not accurate as the two rooms I booked over looked a fenced storage compound for the golf course. Golfers also parked their cars on the grass lawns outside our rooms. Not impressed by the sales description.

This hotel is very very good ! Great welcome from Marsha on reception, she was friendly and professional which set the tone for our stay. Great swimming pool and breakfast, bars were well stocked too. All staff were friendly and also fun.

Had to change rooms 3 times 1st, ripped and stained curtains, dirty cushions, bed side light didn’t work 2nd, large yellow stain on sheets 3rd, no hot water from shower and water just dribbling so not able to have a shower Very disappointing, hotel looks good but rooms are not well maintained and housekeeping staff are obviously slack

Honestly conflicted on my stay as based on the location of the room and the being the root cause of my dissatisfaction, it was okay. Initial booking was no issue and received the usual comms prior to arriving along with an “offer” to upgrade to a room in the “Manor House” which I went for. The room was on the top floor (3rd) at the end of the corridor and initial everything was okay. Some dropped popcorn on the stairwell but nothing untoward. The room allocated was however down the Restaurant end of the manor and the smell of the vents from the kitchen meant it was impossible to have the window open while the kitchen was open due to the smell of cooking fats venting - combined with the area at the bottom of the stairwell being used to store dirty plates from service - again leading to a strong odour up the staircase to the rooms. Finally this morning I noticed some rather unclean bedding as I pulled my covers back, not what I was expecting at all! I avoided breakfast…. Finally on the stairs on the way out… the popcorn from the previous evening….

Lovely hotel and room, check in was a bit confusing as we weren’t sure which building Reception was in-ended up having to get back into the car with all our luggage and driving to the lodge which was some distance from the Reception we’d gone to-there are two. Bathroom looked lovely initially, however when used the toilet flush need Amazonian strength and the shower didn’t drain it could also have done with a bit of Mould and mildew remover.

I liked that this was a very quiet location, the staff seemed pleasant when speaking with them. I would say that there were refurbishments going on there during my stay - it would have been nice to know that at the time of booking. Rooms are average in my opinion - but that is not a bad thing. Corridors and hallways have spiderwebs and dust build up - it would be good to keep these areas cleaner, but again it’s not a huge down point as you don’t stay in a corridor. The reception and communal area has been nicely designed and has a very relaxing yet hip feel to it. I would come back here if I needed to be in the area.

We were returning to the property after more than 10 years and chose a room in the Mansion House. Check in was efficient with a clear map of the property provided -this was just as well since the car parking we initially used was a LONG walk from the hotel reception (we later moved our car). The lift was also broken to the first floor bedrooms. On arrival in our very pleasant bedroom we immediately noticed the sewage smell from the shower drains, and the lack of bath towels. The latter was quickly rectified, but the smell persisted throughout our one night stay - we slept with an open window. We had a first class dinner, cooked by Martin in the View restaurant, which was also a good walk from the Mansion House, but on a pleasant evening. Overall a little disappointing for the price we paid.

Lovely, setting and beautiful grounds, when we arrived, we had lunch in the bar. The food was pretty basic and we had to have a few items rectified. The room is very tired and be aware they do not have air conditioning. I appreciate it’s not listed when booking a hotel of this size and statue you would expect it to be a given and wouldn’t think to check. Bearing in mine a temperature was around 20°. The room itself felt like it was about 35. It desperately needs air-conditioning.

One word: cheap They use pictures of the mansion house but book you a room at the regular hotel. Room has no AC control, slippers/robe. They throttle the water flow rate in taps. Shower gel in the shampoo bottles. No mini fridge or water in the rooms. Smaller bath than usual. Alcohol bottles in the hallway. Reception just blank you. Avoid. For the same price you can get a chain hotel a million times better.

You don’t actually get what you pay for. The room was in another building, not what the picture shows, there was no power in the room, reception didn’t answer the phone and I was running late for a wedding. Eventually they answered and resolved the issue.

I was staying for 2 nights on business at the end of August. I enjoyed the hotel but the noise of the doors on adjacent rooms slamming from people coming back from, presumably, the bar late kept me awake. The hotel itself is comfortable and well maintained but this spoiled my stay as I didn't get a good night's sleep (I was in room 708). Surely it's not too much to ask to dampen the door closers so they're not slamming shut in the middle of the night.

Poor check in, asked a colleague to help who was walking past, the colleague said, I can’t help you before I could even say what I was asking for help with. Slow service in restaurant. Beautiful place, simply not enough colleagues.

Very disappointing stay. Check-in was over an hour late, which was frustrating after a long day. It felt like the hotel was prioritising corporate Christmas events over regular guests. When we finally got into the room, the shower flooded immediately and was unusable. On top of that, the electronic room key didn’t work, leaving us locked out and waiting around 20 minutes for someone to let us in. Overall, the experience showed a lack of basic maintenance and poor customer service. I would not recommend this hotel.

Certainly the best hotel of the De Vere group that I have stayed in so far. The staff were amazing and very friendly/ helpful. Very highly recommended
Certainly the best hotel of the De Vere group that I have stayed in so far. The staff were amazing and very friendly/ helpful. Very highly recommended

Very disappointing stay. Despite arriving earlier in the afternoon, we were not allowed to check in until exactly 4:00 pm. Once in the room, the shower drain was blocked and caused the bathroom floor to flood. To make matters worse, the digital key did not work at all, leaving us locked out of the room. We had to wait around 20 minutes for a staff member to come and open the door. Felt the hotel favoured large corporate events over regular visitors. Overall, the experience was frustrating and poorly managed. I would not stay here again.

You don’t actually get what you pay for. The room was in another building, not what the picture shows, there was no power in the room, reception didn’t answer the phone and I was running late for a wedding. Eventually they answered and resolved the issue.

Great hotel close to Reading, we used as a base to get around London and Herts, lots of space in the hotel. Pool lovely, staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the usual fare mix. No extra a la carte items but still good. Sofa beds were good and worked well for our needs. Good spot to visit London, Bath, Reading but dont want to be in a city hotel. Love the grounds, didnt get to play golf.

Hotel in De Vere chain adjacent to busy golf course. The hotel is of a good standard, the room was fine, and the facilities function satisfactorily. As with all chain hotels it performs a function and does it well, but lacks charm. Perfectly satisfactory and I would happily stay again if looking for a hotel in the area near Reading. About 20 mins out of Reading and 20 mins from Silchester.

Adequate for what we wanted for our day at Royal Ascot. Very golf orientated for non golfers. Poor directional signing to get from major roads to hotel minor roads approach. Even poorer signing at the hotel for parking and reception directions . Signage that does exist is small and difficult to read from the car. Your description of a garden view room was not accurate as the two rooms I booked over looked a fenced storage compound for the golf course. Golfers also parked their cars on the grass lawns outside our rooms. Not impressed by the sales description.

I liked that this was a very quiet location, the staff seemed pleasant when speaking with them. I would say that there were refurbishments going on there during my stay - it would have been nice to know that at the time of booking. Rooms are average in my opinion - but that is not a bad thing. Corridors and hallways have spiderwebs and dust build up - it would be good to keep these areas cleaner, but again it’s not a huge down point as you don’t stay in a corridor. The reception and communal area has been nicely designed and has a very relaxing yet hip feel to it. I would come back here if I needed to be in the area.

DeVere Wokefield exceeded our expectations considerably. We upgraded to a room in the Mansion House and the view from the window was beautiful. Even though there were wedding parties both nights we were there, we would not have known it had we not met people during breakfast and photo shoots. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. The Mansion House could not have been a more lovely surprise. Inexpensive taxi ride to Reading to see the Silchester Eagle and the UK copy of the Bayeaux Tapestry. Very highly recommend!

We had gathered for a family meal together in the restaurant, we entered at 7.30pm. Sadly the service was terribly slow - it was ages befoer our starters arrived and I think it was not until 9.15pm that main courses arrived, apart from the 2 salads! One of the staff checked in if everything was okay - but obviuously not as 2 of us were without any food! Then, when it arrived it was on a hot plate(!), some of the salad was very old and had gone clear and had seen better days, and then the chicken was too tough to cut! Then there was a further delay to get our desserts which did not include any cooked items! There were lots of staff around but they did not see, to want to be seen or to help with simple things like getting more water. In the morning we came back for breakfast - there were no plates, there was food on the floor which people were just walking on around the hotel there were used glasses and plates of food that looked like they had been there for a good couple of hours. Needless to say I won't be rushing back here! Very disappointing for a De Vere hotel, I expected better.

Waited nearly 1hour for a chicken salad, then turned up in a box and looked like it had been shaken. Breakfast was stone cold, they had to put the food back in the oven to warm it up.

Booked in April 19 people for family get together. Dinner on one night ordered week before together with meal choices. After at restaurant for 7.30 booking. Food arrive at 9.15 and they had run out of one item ordered! To be fair we were given a discount but for some family members it was far too late to eat. Following day there was a huge wedding from late morning to late evening which utilised all of the public areas in Wokefield where most of us were staying. This meant there was nowhere available for us to socialise and chat which was the purpose of the weekend and why we chose this hotel. Perhaps we should have been advised of this in advance. On the plus side staff were friendly and helpful, everywhere was clean with the exception of glasses and cups not cleared from tables in communal areas, rooms a good size and beds comfy.

Beautiful looking property but underwhelming. Unless you eat junk food the room service menu is very limited. On trying to contact ‘chat’ on the app you have to use there is no response to questions nor replies when contacted about ordering something as simple as water, salad, steak. So I didn’t have any dinner. Breakfast is basic, buffet… cold. Bed only ok. Noisy above reception. The bedside lights didn’t work either so had to use the bare bulb main light which was really bright.

The biggest disappointment was the room service offer. I was amazed when my order turned up in a paper bag and was like a just eat order. I paid the restaurant price so at least expected a plate and cutlery. If I had been told I would made other plans. For such a high end venue it was travelodge offer.

The Hotel is set within the sprawling grounds which includes a wonderfully maintained golf course despite the current heatwave conditions. I was warmly greeted when checking in and got a lot of steps in getting to my room but was rewarded with a room with a view of the course and everything I needed to enjoy my stay. I used the onsite gym which had new equipment in great working condition which provided a good sweat and pump. I decided to dine elsewhere with Reading being only a few miles away. The bed was extremely comfortable and provided a well-needed night's rest with breakfast options being varied allowing for a great start to the day. The staff were very helpful and the hotel was impeccable.

At check in we were directed to our room, in completely the wrong direction.. ended up on quite the mission. Then on entering our room there was a poo in the toilet - not great! The room was hot with no air con, and one of the windows didn't open at all. There was a fan in the room which was appreciated. I was also shocked at the cost of drinks in the bar - was more than London prices! However the pool was great, as was the choices at breakfast.
