Ideal location for attending a special birthday celebration in Southport but don’t spend long in the hotel Love the old fashioned grandeur Parking good but £6 charge

Lovely building in a great location. My only negative is that there is ni wifi without paying at least £7.00. Room was good too and bed very comfortable.

The outside of the hotel was impressive, and in its day would have been an outstanding place to stay. But that day wasn't in September 2025. Like any old establishment that looks good from the outside on the inside it has grown tired and weary looking. Such a big building and some 150 rooms to offer. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the lift near the reception area was broken, and had been broken for a number of days. The staff maintenance lift was the alternative. At least it worked. The long corridor on the second floor leading to the allocated bedroom, was a mishmash of skirting board badly joined together with liberal dollops of polyfiller between the joints. A skilled job it was not. I can only assume the colour of the corridor walls was chosen on price, or by somebody who really shouldn't have been allowed to use that green by the company’s design office. Make sure you are not allocated a bedroom with the whine of the heating (or hot water) system coming from below in an inner courtyard of the hotel. A closed window only muffled the unpleasant frequency, at least it ended around midnight. The bad news was that it fired up again around six in the morning, with an evermore annoying whine, well I suppose everyone was glad of the hot water for a shower. If you are a six-hour sleeper, the timings would work fine. Food was plentiful, both for the evening meal and breakfast. Though the coffee from the machine was poor. Stay there again?... never say never...

They never told us about paying for the car park

Room 319 on the 3rd floor had a limited view over the roof tops. Red hot and the windows would only open a bit due to safety chains on them. Bed was too hard for me, so i slept poorly. The Shower over the bath was nice and hot. Floor creaked due to age and carpets, whilst clean, look dirty due to their age. Parking was ok but charged at £6.00 overnight. Location of the hotel is great. Good bars and restaurants all within a 10 minute walk. Ate at an Italian called Volare, which was 10 mins up Lord Street.

Parking not included, carpark costs £6 per day. Internet not included- costs £7 per day. Listed as dog friendly but dogs are an additional £10 per pet and no bowls or beds provided for this additional cost. Beds uncomfortable, bedding full of gritty substance meaning we both were itchy and the heating in the room was unbearable. Windows opened slightly but this didn't help the stifling ambiance of the room. Satisfactory for price and to stay overnight.. but would not stay again nor recommend to others.

Great position near all the amenities and reasonable value. However, our rooms in the basement were cold. We told Reception and they said a heater would be left in the room which it wasn't. Staff on Sunday morning was not bothered or helpful despite us arranging this with a colleague the day before. The place is tired and musty. The car park is over crowded due to the scaffolding. There never seemed to be many staff around, the bar often unattended so we had to wait to order more drinks. Rooms were not serviced while we were there. It feels like a neglected hotel of faded grandeur.

We have stayed here a few years ago. It was apparent that the rooms had been upgraded and were much improved. The decor was bright and clean. The carpeting throughout was excellent and well cushioned to soften any possible noise especially on the corridors to rooms. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. Parking was easy and at £6 per 24 hours reasonable. Ample choice for breakfast. Fresh fruit would have been good. Full English was good. Would stay again.

We were accommodated in a suite which was more than Enough room. Had live music in the evening too which was good to pass the time. Only downside was the signal for mobile reception and data and had to purchase WiFi.

Warm welcome. Room at back of hotel. Woken at 6 by a very loud whirring noise which we could only assume was the kitchen extractor fan. Coming back to the room in the evening, the room was full of food smells. There was a missing light bulb in the bathroom which made it very dim. Also the metal grid part of the plug hole was missing, so it was just a hole. These two faults were reported to reception, so it would be interesting to know if they’ve been rectified since we left. I would have thought the cleaner would have noticed these faults and reported them! There was no internet access in the bedroom, and indeed even in the hotel reception area. Also struggled to get a phone signal. As soon as we got onto Lord Street it seemed fine. Wouldn’t stay here again.

Room was a state with a ceiling repair and a water stain down the wall. Carpets were thread bare and stained. Mattress was an old spring mattress and pinged every time you moved.. real shame as the property looks nice from outside… it’s more than a travel lodge but is a lower spec room

Dirty hotel. The room was cold and damp. Staff were very nice.

Room was very tired and lighting was appalling - virtually non existent. Room was uncomfortably hot with no means to control temperature. Tv did not work and we were told there was nothing they could do about it. Previous guests clothes left in room. Breakfast very poor - very little for vegetarians and fruit looked a month old.

Unsecure window dirty room, had to cut our stay short as the hotel was fully booked and unable to change room. Booked for two nights only able to stay one night but still got charged for the two nights

Very comfortable hotel, and very clean, pleasant staff.

You have to pay to park it should be free for guests, the bar was expensive not clean an smelt of damp and blocked drains. The mattress was old and stained holes drilled into headboard???. Shower out dated kettle was dirty asked for it to be replaced brought same one back washed but still not clean. Curtains didnt match windows rotten and bolted shut in 5 different places.to be honest the only good thing was the girl on reception was smart polite and happy to help where she could.

The bar closed very early, the overall condition of the building is a little run down, our headboard wasn’t fixed to the wall there were several maintenance issues, overall for the price it was an average hotel. The staff were friendly and the bedroom was clean if a little dated

Decent hotel but window in room had a broken handle and i was unable to fully close it so the room was cold all night.

We paid extra to upgrade to an executive room, It was an attic room with small window with a view of the roof! The weather was warm and there was only a small hopper opening The room was extremely warm and we had 2 very uncomfortable nights sleep. We were advised there was a fan in the room and this was an executive room !!! At one point it was 26 degrees

When we arrived we was allocated 2 rooms with no window which had we known we would not of booked it was pitch black and so hot and stuffy.Next morning i went to reception and spoke to the young lady who was so nice and helpful and changed our room immediately to one with a window which was lovely but it needs to be made clear there are some rooms with no window on your website

Grade 2 listed building looks great from the outside, lobby area beautiful period. First room offered was nothing more than a box, no windows and smelt of smoke. Very good help from reception to change rooms. The second room had windows but the frames are so dated and rotten that the wind just blew in through the gaps. The bed was small, very hard and uncomfortable. Breakfast was slightly better than ok.

The room was very cold turned radiator up no heating , greenight on ceiling lightened the room annoying , only got 4 hours sleep , pillows were rock solid , so not enjoyable

The Prince of Wales Hotel in Southport is very well situated on the main street (Lord Street) in Southport. It is very close to shops, restaurants, cafes and the seafront. It's about a 5 minute walk to Southport Marine Lake. We had a lovely evening walk along the promenade there. Off street parking in front of the hotel is reasonable at £6 for an overnight stay. The parking ticket is valid for 24hrs from when you check-in but make sure you pay for your parking at reception and not at the machine, otherwise it will be £15 overnight. The interior of the hotel foyer is splendid, still with many of its Victorian features. The room we had was adequate for our overnight stay. The room, including the bathroom was clean and tidy. The bathroom had been modernised to a good standard. The room itself though was very dated and could do with modernising. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, so because it was so hot we slept with both the room window and the bathroom window open all night. Ours was just an overnight stay, I wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer. That said it was great value for money at £45 for the room for the night. The staff we came into contact with were very friendly, helpful and professional. I would definitely recommend The Prince of Wales Hotel, Southport for a short term stay, due to its great location and price.

Never will I stay at the prince of wales hotel in Southport staff was useless when got trapped in a lift was told will be up to 3 hours for them to get someone out to help in the end I rang fire brigade who came an got me n my partner out within 40 minutes no apologies from staff no checks to make sure we was ok hotel staff are a joke.

The staff could not have been more friendly. The only criticism was the lack of bar staff on the Saturday evening. The queue to be served was at least 12 people long.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and there was plenty of jot water. The room was lovely and warm, I fact a little too warm during the night. We parked very easily. They were starting to take down the scaffolding so that should give them more parking for the summer. When we return to the hotel for bed, people were being entertained in the big reception room with drinks.

Well where do I begin ? We arrived at the hotel in time for check and had to wait 40 minutes in the queue to be checked in. They were two staff on arguing yet only one of them was checking guests in. The room and bathroom was tired and shabby. The windows were old and rotting which did not keep any noise out from outside out and we didn't sleep all weekend as the seagulls were squawking all night. The police were there twice over the weekend due to two incidents.The parkingnwas a joke as paid for two nights, but couldn't move the car to travel locally otherwise you would lose your place and not able to get back in. We wouldn't stay here again, overpriced and at least a 1/2 * hotel.

Got kicked out of the hotel after arriving back from a meal and a couple of drinks went back to hotel to finish our night to listen to the live singer, my partner and I wasn’t drunk but the manager had refused to serve my partner drinks and said we’ve had enough when I went over to speak to him he would not discuss the situation with me and instead of talking to me about it and give me a proper reason why you wouldn’t save any drinks to us he called the police. when they arrived five minutes later, feed police vans, two police cars and 15 offices. after talking to them all night and calmly they didn’t seem there was a problem show me went back to our room. The officers went. The manager had only gone into our room when we were out and locked the bathroom door so we could not use the facilities in our room I went back down to reception and told them the bathroom door was locked for some reason and we could not go into bathroom they called the police again then us to leave couldn’t get my car cause I’ve been drinking so we went off to find another hotel for the night which we got one which is 10 times better than the one we got kicked out of. I want a complete refund. cause we didn’t end up staying the night.

We enjoyed our stay the staff were very friendly and helpful we had a issue with drunken guest being very loud and abusive above us but the staff moved us to a different room and sorted out very quickly

This hotel was beautiful and clean. It also has nice open spaces to spend time outside of your hotel room. It is centrally located in Southport so is very walkable.

The location was great, everything within easy walking distance. There was a function/wedding on and we had 3 different people knocking on our door between midnight and 4am. Clearly nothing to do with the property but didn't get a decent sleep 😴

Most impressed didn’t pay a great deal of money so I didn’t expect much so when I arrived it was a pleasant surprise made a note that next time I’m working there this will be my first choice oh and a good breakfast as well as being served at a good time ( 07:30 )

We liked the property very much. We had a lovely room pleasant staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them My only problem was the breakfast. The orange juice was like drinking water and the ready break porridge was awful 😣 other than that are stay was good

Hotel was comfy and clean, staff nice and polite, manager out spoken and in the wrong. entertainment average, first night food average second night poor. Drink prices good for a hotel.
