A wonderful Hotel just slightly away from the centre of York, but very, very walkable from the station and anywhere you might like to visit. The staff were engaging, wonderfully helpful, the room was perfect and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again in the future. Other touches like the "Pantry" and convenient onsite parking made it a real joy to stay.

Fantastic stay all round. Room was lovely, so touched with the little extras for our baby (tipi and toys in room and cot all setup). Food at the hotel restaurant was really good, and spa was amazing.

Loved the place. Very close to the Kirkminster and walking distance to all the important sites. Hotel parking was arranged, but ended up being excruciatingly tight. Almost unworkable.

Loved the unique features - a free snack pantry (sweets, drinks, fruit etc.), traditional record player in each room and records to pick and choose from, quirky but tasteful decorations. We stayed here before so knew what to expect. The hotel is great and easy access to York city centre. the breakfast seems a little pricy, but you definitely won't go hungry!! Only gripe, £25 a night to park in their car park. As a guest of a not cheap hotel, I would expect parking to be included with maybe a charge if used beyond check out.

Really nice stay - modern trendy room with a turntable and four poster bed - lovely pantry room and a really cool bar with a working model train - very friendly nice service in the bar - one word of caution is that we did get blocked in in the car park!

The location of the property is a 15 min walk from train station and a 10 min walk into town. Very accessible. Quiet and safe surroundings. The main positive of this hotel is the staff - friendly, polite and knowledgeable. Great bartenders and a lovely room to sit and drink. I would recommend the restaurant - food was great. Def a place I would stay at next time I’m in York.

Chic, well designed room, very clean. The hotel is close to the city center but far enough away that it’s quiet. Lovely restaurant and bar with good food. I’m hoping to come back here on another trip soon!

We absolutely loved our stay at No. 1! The hotel is beautiful, warm, and inviting. The rooms were clean and cozy. The staff were very kind and accommodating. We also enjoyed the spa and restaurant (Pearly Cow). We weren’t informed about the pantry when we checked in, so make sure you ask about it if you stay.

If you’re staying in York, seriously—stop searching. This place is a gem. My partner and I were initially a bit unsure because the building looks quite old from the outside, but we were quickly blown away by the attention to detail inside. Property and rooms are beautiful and the pantry with snacks was handy with a toddler! Our room unfortunately had a leak through the ceiling on the first night, and all staff were amazing helping us sort it (thankfully we didnt need to move rooms). The girls on reception and manager were all welcoming, couldn't recommend the hotel enough. We will be staying again on our next visit!

Really lovely family stay - beautiful big room kitted out with great toys for little one and also accommodating for the dog. Fantastic meal in the restaurant too. Highly recommend. We ate pre 6pm due to the little one and the prix fix menu is phenomenal value. One small point is that the corridors feel a bit tired and old so first impressions coming in from car park are disappointing, but the room and rest of the hotel more than make up for this.

From the moment Dave collected our bags from the station (complimentary service), we knew we were in for a treat at No1. The room was lovely and probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. Plus the linen and pillows were sumptuous. The room was ultra clean and the bathroom products were great quality. Sleeping at the front of the hotel means you can hear traffic noise (I’m a light sleeper) but the road wasn’t constantly busy. The staff, ambiance and decor were excellent. All infused with the friendliness of York. It really was a perfect two night stay, 10 mins walk from the Minster.

The hotel was really nice, however it was just really noisy. The wooden floors without the right insulation enable all the noise from the room upstairs to be hear when some walks etc. our room was the one on the ground floor near reception and the constants noise form thenkitcrh/ dinning area, car park etc made it into a rather disappointing stay. A shame as the room was beautiful, although tired in places still beautifully decorated.

The hotel looks stunning from outside and whilst the common areas are small, they are beautifully decorated in a way similar to The Pig chain if you know that (quirky). Our room wasn’t that big and whilst the 4 poster bed was very comfy, it almost crowded the room too much. The tea and coffee machine was housed in a dolls house and on the landing was a ‘pantry’ where you could help your self to drinks and snacks. Again quirky and smile inducing. There were a few things in the room that needed fixing after 1 night so our overall feeling was that whilst a lot of attention was given to decor, some obvious things were overlooked, eg those broken items and no instructions on Wi-Fi, how to work the heater etc. We only had breakfast there but not dinner as the menu was quite limited and also a little unusual/not to everyone’s taste

Amazing place. We stayed in small room (25) nice and quiet at top of property. Comfy bed with shutters and a curtain. Coffee machine with pods , kettle and coffee bags sugar and real milk in room. Little seat sofa, robes, slippers, a working turntable and records, tv,radio and free snack pantry which was incredible. Fresh baked cake under cloche, small tubs of ice cream northern bloc, listers crisps multiple flavours , jars of jelly beans , jelly babies , shrimps& dolly mixtures and pick and mix bags, and clawson drinks in fridges - sensational. Parking is next to property for 24 hours £25 but simple walk into town 8 mins. Bar downstairs with lovely seated areas , don’t do the spa, takes Expedia discount codes too. Stunning

AMAZING! But……. The hotel is simply stunning; the decor, the atmosphere, the works. It is just gorgeous. The rooms are so tasteful and cosy, and the bar area and lounge were gorgeous for an evening drink. The staff were all unbelievably helpful and friendly and we loved the addition of the pantry for an evening snack. The location is ideal for walking right into the centre of town for food and drinks. We didn’t eat at the Pearly Cow but the menu looked beautiful too. Now for the but… The walls are paper thin. You can hear absolutely everything the guests in the next room are doing. I totally understand that it is an old building, but I do think it’s a shame that steps have not been taken to ensure maximum privacy & comfort, and soundproofing for example. If a cosy night’s sleep that is relaxing is what you are after, I would really strongly consider taking this information on board. AMAZING! But……. The hotel is simply stunning; the decor, the atmosphere, the works. It is just gorgeous. The rooms are so tasteful and cosy, and the bar area and lounge were gorgeous for an evening drink. The staff were all unbelievably helpful and friendly and we loved the addition of the pantry for an evening snack. The location is ideal for walking right into the centre of town for food and drinks. We didn’t eat at the Pearly Cow but the menu looked beautiful too. Now for the but… The walls are paper thin. You can hear absolutely everything the guests in the next room are doing. I totally understand that it is an old building, but I do think it’s a shame that steps have not been taken to ensure maximum privacy & comfort, and soundproofing for example. If a cosy night’s sleep that is relaxing is what you are after, I would really strongly consider taking this information on board. Room (number 15) was a fair size with a great bathroom and accessible to the lift. The pantry was stocked with goodies that you can access at any time. Great stay. Great staff, great restaurant and bar. The room we had was tiny - absolutely no place to put anything, let alone luggage. And we would've liked to USE the desk, not have it covered with a turntable we didn't care to utilize.

We absolutely loved our stay at No. 1! The hotel is beautiful, warm, and inviting. The rooms were clean and cozy. The staff were very kind and accommodating. We also enjoyed the spa and restaurant (Pearly Cow). We weren’t informed about the pantry when we checked in, so make sure you ask about it if you stay.

Stay was great in every way although we booked a taxi to the train station at the end. The taxi did not turn up for 20 minutes. In the end I ordered an Uber. My mum who is in her 80s and does not need the stress - and I just made the train. I felt reception dealt with this poorly and were not at all helpful. I had to sort it out

The staff - particularly Laurina, as well as the Spa Team - were exceptional. We attended in August 2024 for our minimoon, and cannot recommend the Guesthouse enough! Our stay was 10/10, and we will definitely be coming back! Thank you from us for all the team - you made it extra special!

From the moment Dave collected our bags from the station (complimentary service), we knew we were in for a treat at No1. The room was lovely and probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. Plus the linen and pillows were sumptuous. The room was ultra clean and the bathroom products were great quality. Sleeping at the front of the hotel means you can hear traffic noise (I’m a light sleeper) but the road wasn’t constantly busy. The staff, ambiance and decor were excellent. All infused with the friendliness of York. It really was a perfect two night stay, 10 mins walk from the Minster.

We had the best stay for our 3rd wedding anniversary. The hotel went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome. It was our first anniversary since we became parents and the hotel were amazing with our baby girl. The room was perfect and so child friendly. The hotel provided a cot bed and also had a tepee play area for our little one to enjoy. We are at the pearly cow restaurant next to the hotel and it was great food and service too. Thank you for an amazing stay to all the fantastic staff at the hotel and we already can’t wait to return in the future for another visit.

We stayed here before so knew what to expect. The hotel is great and easy access to York city centre. the breakfast seems a little pricy, but you definitely won't go hungry!! Only gripe, £25 a night to park in their car park. As a guest of a not cheap hotel, I would expect parking to be included with maybe a charge if used beyond check out.

The hotel looks stunning from outside and whilst the common areas are small, they are beautifully decorated in a way similar to The Pig chain if you know that (quirky). Our room wasn’t that big and whilst the 4 poster bed was very comfy, it almost crowded the room too much. The tea and coffee machine was housed in a dolls house and on the landing was a ‘pantry’ where you could help your self to drinks and snacks. Again quirky and smile inducing. There were a few things in the room that needed fixing after 1 night so our overall feeling was that whilst a lot of attention was given to decor, some obvious things were overlooked, eg those broken items and no instructions on Wi-Fi, how to work the heater etc. We only had breakfast there but not dinner as the menu was quite limited and also a little unusual/not to everyone’s taste

Beautiful hotel in a quiet location with easy access to the centre of York. We received excellent service throughout our stay and thoroughly recommend the breakfasts and afternoon tea. Every detail has been thought of, from the pantry to record players in the rooms. We really enjoyed relaxing in the bar with some lovely cocktails and can’t wait to return. Thank you!

Beautiful restaurant and bar within the hotel, very comfortable and stylish decor. The only downside I would say is it was let down but having dogs in the lounge area when going for a drink before dinner. I know many people like this, and like the opportunity to bring their pet everywhere but personally felt it brought the atmosphere to a more country pub with dogs lying around. Staff were exceptional, very helpful and informative. We recently stayed at Number One York Guest House and had a wonderful experience overall. The staff were incredibly attentive and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. Our suite was exceptionally spacious, spotlessly clean, and had a warm, welcoming atmosphere that made it feel like a home away from home. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, with a great selection and high-quality ingredients. It was the perfect start to each day. My only criticisms are relatively minor. The external stairs are extremely noisy, and the excessive creaking from people walking up and down them can be quite disruptive, especially early in the morning or late at night. I also feel that the lounge area would benefit from having separate voile curtains, similar to those in the bedroom, to provide additional privacy while still allowing plenty of natural light into the room. Despite these small issues, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend Number One York Guest House to anyone visiting York.
