Lovely old building in the heart of old York. Room was nice although I’ve slept in more comfortable beds- I prefer a firmer mattress. Breakfast was excellent with good quality products. May not be suitable for people with mobility issues.

AMAZING location in a historic inn, cute views from my 4th-floor room (naturally no elevator, so keep that in mind). The food and drinks were top-notch, and it's only a short walk to York Minster and the art gallery, Yorkshire Museum, Museum Gardens, etc. I will definitely stay here again!

We loved our stay once we found it as had problems accessing it by car in the dark, no parking and need to use carpark quite a distance to walk from the hotel. The room was quirky and the bed very comfortable and cosy. Staff were very helpful and food lovely.

First and foremost, this is not a five-star accommodation. However, if you’re looking for an hotel with old charm with a beer garden and fantastic staff, this will foot the bill. The beer garden had the best mac & cheese and parsnip soup you’ve ever had in your life. Location is extremely convenient to the train station, York Minster, restaurants, pubs and shopping. They’re not a lot of rooms and there is no elevator. Some doors may not close, and floors may be a little warped, but it is worth the price for a quaint accommodation that has everything. If you need accessible lodging, this is not for you.

Wonderful old pub/inn. Great location, helpful staff and an excellent breakfast. Lots of narrow stairs so ask for a room on a lower floors if stairs are an issue!

We recently stayed at the Fat Badger, where staff were excellent as was the food and service we received. The only downside were the rooms were a little dated, and old fashioned. Parking was expensive off site too.

We stayed for one night on our way north and spent some time enjoying City centre. The hotel is located right inside one of the old wall gates with easy access to the wall, which we could see right out our room window. Parking is off site in a pay parking lot abouit 1/4 mile away (10 min walk), Check out is 11, but they close the gate at 9:30am, so if you check out after that you will be hauling your luggage to the car park. we just had carry on type bags so no biggie. We only slept at the badger, so cannot comment on food/service. Staff for checking in and out were very helpful. Great location to enjoy the old city centre. We walked south on old wall to the south side and then cut back up through the city, to the shambles and about. We ate breakfast at the Brew and Brownie which was excellent, I highly recommend.

Very old property with an antique charm. Our bedroom was very well taken care of. Our only complaint would be the bathroom being a little narrow and damp. But these are things that must be traded off for when considering the age of the building. Its proximity to the Yorkminster made it very nice and easy. The food and drink as well as food service was very good. Servers and bartender were knowledgeable about the drinks and gave us good advice when it was needed.

Room was fine, though bathroom had a smell of damp in it. Location was great for city centre but it was really noisy. Bin wagon at 5am outside room, street sweeper at 6am, bottle bank at 7am!

I really wanted to write a great review- the hotel is in a great location with friendly, welcoming staff on arrival. It is an old building in York but this shouldn’t mean that it’s acceptable to be cramped, unclean and lacking in basic room facilities. Positives- staff very amenable - the restaurant was full in a very rainy afternoon but they offered room service so we could eat. We couldn’t fault the food. Bed was fairly comfortable and room was warm. Areas to improve : cleanliness of the room. Pretty dirty with a very unclean toilet. Grubby shower, floors, windows and lacking in basic amenities - wardrobe, bedside table etc.. Had to boil the kettle on the floor as cable wouldn’t reach to socket, boiling hot water out of sink taps (there was a warning sign!). For the price of the room (£368 room only!) it really is terrible value and I wouldn’t recommend or stay again. I would have mentioned the issues to the staff but we weren’t asked how we found our stay.

Great location with a warm welcome. Very nice clean comfortable room with a great breakfast. We stayed for one night and had an evening meal which was superb. Very friendly, will definitely stay here again, highly recommended.

Had such a lovely time in York and the staff at the fat badger added to the whole experience. Would highly recomend to anyone planning a visit to the city as a place to stay . The staff are polite and friendly and the morning lady who does the breakfast shifts is amazing and had us laughing she was from leeds just so she knows its her we are talking about . The rooms were very clean with clean bedding every day our only regret is we didnt stay longer

The hotel is located in the Center of all the attractions. The bedroom cozy and perfectly clean. It could be noisy for the complex of the building, but it is part of the character of this place. We got dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious. The staff very attentive and helpful but overall I need to talk about Debbie the waitress for breakfast service. Very happy and attentive lady, who was ready to take care of us in the morning. No doubt the staff made our stay even better than expected.

So, so disappointed! Thought it would be a treat to stay in this old charming building. The room was so small we had to crawl across the bed to sleep and bathroom was down a long dark hallway. Very dark decor and poor lighting. The worst part was the NOISE! On a main street just inside the old Roman gate where the party crowd congregate. Horrible noises from garbage collectors and those stocking the bar rolling and banging metal kegs in the wee hours. While convenient to the old city, resist the temptation to stay here, I am so sorry to say.

Very convienient for visiting York. The property is based within the walls and is very close to York Minster which is an amazing spectacle. The rooms are very 'quirky' and it was a ghostly atmospheric experience. We stayed in room 2 which had a very narrow passageway to the bathroom. The window looked out over the cobbled streets and it was next to petergate and literally just inside the city walls. Great place to stay when visiting and reasonably priced.

A quirky room,clean,somewhat cramped....distance between mattress and floor wider than distance between corner of bed and drinks table. Bit of a squeeze...a larger person would have to roll over bed to get to window. Facilities good but personally no need for TV...it's York why stay in watching TV?

Had an overnight stay at the Fat Badger. Lovely service and good food and great location but not great sleep. Late night revelry and early morning keg deliveries make not for a good night’s sleep. Better glass in windows could help!

Lovely place to stay. Bedroom was roomy and bed was comfortable. Was able to check in early. Breakfast was delicious. Walking distance to Minister is fab. Will definitely be staying here again.

Not only did we enjoy our lodging at the Fat Badger but the meals we had there were fabulous as well. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us during their busy holiday season. The property is cozy and convenient to the city center and we couldn’t have been happier with the staff. We had a lovely stay.

Great location with a warm welcome. Very nice clean comfortable room with a great breakfast. We stayed for one night and had an evening meal which was superb. Very friendly, will definitely stay here again, highly recommended.

Couldn't resist the name. The hotel was in the perfect location for a short trip in York. It was walkable to everything but still tucked away enough that I didn't have to worry about loud people all night. Fair warning this hotel doesn't have an elevator, only stairs so if you're like me and tend to over pack - you've been warned. That being said staff were super helpful in bringing my luggage up and down the stairs. Would gladly stay here again.

AMAZING location in a historic inn, cute views from my 4th-floor room (naturally no elevator, so keep that in mind). The food and drinks were top-notch, and it's only a short walk to York Minster and the art gallery, Yorkshire Museum, Museum Gardens, etc. I will definitely stay here again!

First and foremost, this is not a five-star accommodation. However, if you’re looking for an hotel with old charm with a beer garden and fantastic staff, this will foot the bill. The beer garden had the best mac & cheese and parsnip soup you’ve ever had in your life. Location is extremely convenient to the train station, York Minster, restaurants, pubs and shopping. They’re not a lot of rooms and there is no elevator. Some doors may not close, and floors may be a little warped, but it is worth the price for a quaint accommodation that has everything. If you need accessible lodging, this is not for you.
First and foremost, this is not a five-star accommodation. However, if you’re looking for an hotel with old charm with a beer garden and fantastic staff, this will foot the bill. The beer garden had the best mac & cheese and parsnip soup you’ve ever had in your life. Location is extremely convenient to the train station, York Minster, restaurants, pubs and shopping. We love the fat badger. The staff are really friendly, the accommodation is warm and cozy. The location is perfect. Its only a couple of hundred feet from cathedral and shops.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel next to the city walls with a beer garden that is very inviting. I would highly recommend the hotel. The breakfast was delicious. If you want a small hotel with history this is where to stay in York. Perfect location for an early walk on the city walls. Superb.

Enjoyed a one night stay, room was nice and comfortable. Hotel is lovely with a hidden secret beer garden which is next to the historic wall. Had a fantastic full english breakfast - would recommend The Fat Badger.

Wonderful old pub/inn. Great location, helpful staff and an excellent breakfast. Lots of narrow stairs so ask for a room on a lower floors if stairs are an issue!

Well decorated old property with antique furniture located right beside the main attractions of York. Our room looked over the secret garden which was a peaceful place to have a drink. Breakfast was very tasty with high quality ingredients: the Greek yogurt was particularly tasty.

Service was incredible, very friendly and helpful staff. The room was lovely. A bit hot which I had read about but wasn't unbearable and you can open the windows. There was also a fan provided which we didn't need. We ate in the resturant which was lovely and again, very friendly staff. The location was fantastic within the city walls and a stones throw away from York Minster.

Very boutique. We didn’t realize we would have the attic room. The stairs are very steep and small so carrying bags is difficult. There is no AC so the windows were open. The crowd at the bar and on the streets can be heard all night. Checking in and out is extremely simple and they held our bags while we roamed the city. The food at the restaurant was great!

This could be quite a cosy hotel in the winter. However, my room was totally unsuitable for a summertime stay during yet another heatwave. There was a fan. No AC. Poor ventilation, the windows would only open a few inches. Top floor, it may have been soaking up heat. It was far too warm, I managed only 2 hours of sleep. Thank god they left a big bottle of water in the room. Shower was very tight; bathroom was too small. Breakfast was very good.

Cute room in fab location. So easy to get around York. Delicious breakfast. Room clean. Could do with a little TLC with paint on doors. A little noisy, but to be expected when staying in an old pub. Would stay again.
