Good communication with instructions for self-check-in. All was as described. Single room with everything I needed for one night. I wish there was a fan, but no other suggestion. Easy walk from the train station.

The hotel is a bit tired. No one to greet you, just a pass code. The advertised bar was locked. On going down for breakfast, was told that this was extra, £8.50 each for continental breakfast. After paying £128.00 for one night, I thought this was rather extreme. I am afraid I will not be booking this establishment again.

All 14 rooms at Hunters Lodge were occupied even so the owner - Roddy made time for us. The room was exceptionally clean (credit to the cleaner) the bed was very comfortable and there was lashings of hot water for the shower and from the taps in the sink. The car park was safe and secure. We had room number 16 which was lovely with an off-shoot bedroom and separate sink. All in all we enjoyed our one nights stay here and would book again. Good value for money. Roddy was very accommodating allowing us to leave our car in the car park for a couple of hours before our ferry over to The Isle of White. Very happy guests!

There was no AC. My room was too hot to stay. It was not expensive relatively. But it’s a very basic hotel.

We were very surprised at the condition of this property because of the 4 and 5 star reviews. Maybe there has been a management change? The room we stayed in was large enough, but was dingy and needs a refresh. The weather outside was chilly and cool, but there was no heat inside the building. The walls need to be painted and the carpet needs to be cleaned. There is a continental breakfast available for a fee that was very disappointing. We needed extra toilet paper and the owner was surprised that we had run out, though there was not extra in the room. She was also surprised when we told her about the spiderweb. Good location, with good bus links to city centre, or a 25 minutes walk. Friendly welcome. Minor issues pointed out were rectified immediately. Free onsite parking at front and back of property. Continental breakfast can be included for £8.50 extra.

Be honest the place is close to the cruise terminal but area and neighborhood is not good. The room doesn’t have AC that day was so hot . The room has lots flies have to call the manager came to spray. The owner was very nice.

I stayed in a single room towards the back of the property. Though quite compact, it was very quiet, clean and comfortable, and had everything you could possibly need, including a super comfy bed - in which I was dead to the world for a full seven hours - a great power shower, tea/coffee facilities, and a TV with all the Freeview channels. The owners kindly allowed me to use the dining room in the evening to eat the food which I had brought with me. I didn’t take breakfast (it wasn’t included). The Railway Station and City Centre are only around a 10 or 15 minute walk away, though if required there are bus stops in the nearby main road. Overall, a very pleasant stay, which I hope to repeat one day.

The property is around 20 minutes walk from the city centre, the rooms are clean. I was a bit confused with the high ceiling window. The walls are thin so I could hear other guests conversations quite clearly.

Very steep stairs. No windows. No air-conditioning or overhead fan. Had to ask for top sheet only donna. Far to hot. Woen up with someone burning toast so fire alarm went off when still in bed.

I knew the house was dated and expected the age of the house to show. The furniture now has the musty smell of days gone by. Our personal favorite touch was the blue and white peepee pad ( the ones used for puppies and potty training toddlers) as our shower mat. Any local attraction information is almost as dated as the house. If you decide you would like breakfast then ask 24hrs ahead. Don't wait until 7:00 pm because they don't keep food or milk in house and they don't want to go to go to the market. If you are going on a cruise "just wait until you get on the ship". The stairs are steep, halls are narrow and there is no air conditioning. Hope you don't have heavy bags or a bad back If you are ok with budget friendly and don't mind the aged musty smell then this place is for you. If you prefer a bit more modern convenience then choose a different location.

There was no staff on site to help when I discovered that the bathroom shower in Room 17 had NO WATER ! So I paid over 80 pounds & couldn’t even take a shower☹️. I would not recommend this place because when I was leaving the next morning @ 8:30 a.m. after not being able to shower, I saw a lady downstairs in the hallway & told her about the lack of water & she said “oh you going to give me a bad review?”

I was told in my mail that there would be a key available upon arrival. There was no key and I had difficulty getting ahold of anyone, since there was no receptionist and no answer to phone calls or email. The owner said she forgot to leave us the key, so we had to wait over an hour for her to send someone to give us a key. The property and area was nice.

Quaint old home converted to hotel. Did not expect it to be quite so self-serve without any staff around whatsoever. Coming from North America we did not have phones and there were not any phones (to call for taxi) or staff to assist so we had to walk quite a distance to a cab stand to set up pick up time.

Excellent for a one night stay prior to a cruise. Hostess was very responsive and helpful. Disliked nothing but was not aware that my room would be upstairs, a flight of many stairs so that my main suitcase spent the night downstairs.

Be honest the place is close to the cruise terminal but area and neighborhood is not good. The room doesn’t have AC that day was so hot . The room has lots flies have to call the manager came to spray. The owner was very nice.

The property is around 20 minutes walk from the city centre, the rooms are clean. I was a bit confused with the high ceiling window. The walls are thin so I could hear other guests conversations quite clearly.

I stayed in a single room towards the back of the property. Though quite compact, it was very quiet, clean and comfortable, and had everything you could possibly need, including a super comfy bed - in which I was dead to the world for a full seven hours - a great power shower, tea/coffee facilities, and a TV with all the Freeview channels. The owners kindly allowed me to use the dining room in the evening to eat the food which I had brought with me. I didn’t take breakfast (it wasn’t included). The Railway Station and City Centre are only around a 10 or 15 minute walk away, though if required there are bus stops in the nearby main road. Overall, a very pleasant stay, which I hope to repeat one day.

The staff were not particularly welcoming - our key was not there for check in, no welcome and you were expected to check yourself in and help yourself to the key! Area quite run down and quite far from town centre. Room very dated and odd layout with sink in bedroom and toilet and shower in bathroom. Bed and pillows very uncomfortable

Centrally located near restaurants and cafes but it's a low income neighborhood. The best part was conversations with a regular boarder Adrienne. You only get one pillow unless you ask for more. No air conditioning, just a fan. The breakfast is not worth buying. In all it was a convenient stay before my cruise from South Hampton.

The hotel is a bit tired. No one to greet you, just a pass code. The advertised bar was locked. On going down for breakfast, was told that this was extra, £8.50 each for continental breakfast. After paying £128.00 for one night, I thought this was rather extreme. I am afraid I will not be booking this establishment again.

I think this is a good place for young travelers looking for basic accommodation. I git more od hostel vibe than a motel. It is not for older folks used to nicer places. We stayed here for one night before cruise and will not stay here again. The stairs are stiff and most rooms are upstairs. Some rooms get really hot like the one we stayed. It had a fan and no window. There’s also a skylight window that you can’t cover so the long summer daylight makes the room bright all day. Not good for the ones taking a nap or going to bed early. Skylight window opens but the air circulation is unnoticeable so it was hot all day and all night despite being quite cold outside. There are limited choice of restaurants and bars in walking distance. The area is mostly residential and guesthouses. Taxi passes by infrequently and Uber was hard to get in the morning as no one would accept the ride to the cruise port. You should reserve a taxi by calling on advance. Breakfast is overpriced and very basic so if you have time, get proper breakfast at a cafe in a few min drive away. Self check-in was nice and rooms were small and old but clean.

We were very surprised at the condition of this property because of the 4 and 5 star reviews. Maybe there has been a management change? The room we stayed in was large enough, but was dingy and needs a refresh. The weather outside was chilly and cool, but there was no heat inside the building. The walls need to be painted and the carpet needs to be cleaned. There is a continental breakfast available for a fee that was very disappointing. We needed extra toilet paper and the owner was surprised that we had run out, though there was not extra in the room. She was also surprised when we told her about the spiderweb. She promptly removed it and said that she appreciated us showing her otherwise she would not have known it was there. That causes me to think that she does not personally check the rooms every day. The mattress was very comfortable, which was good. But the overall maintenance of the property is lacking. (The magazines in the lounge are dated 2015 through 2020.) We have many reasons to return to Southampton, but we will not return to this property.

Me and my colleague stayed at Hunters Lodge for 3 nights in 2 rooms. The furniture is really outdated but it was very clean and the bed was comfy. First the electric switch for my sky light (the only window in the room) was broken and the room was boiling hot. Took a while for someone to come up and take out the ladder to fix it (they had to reset the system). The socket next to my bed didn't work as I wanted to charge my phone during the night. My collegue's shower was half broken. When I got home late in the evening they forgot to refill my milk so I couldn't have a well deserved cup of tea after a long day of work. My collegue's sky light had no blinds so day light flooded her room at 5 in the morning. And when we got downstairs on the first morning it appeared that we hadn't booked breakfast. I knew the house was dated and expected the age of the house to show. The furniture now has the musty smell of days gone by. Our personal favorite touch was the blue and white peepee pad ( the ones used for puppies and potty training toddlers) as our shower mat. Any local attraction information is almost as dated as the house. If you decide you would like breakfast then ask 24hrs ahead. Don't wait until 7:00 pm because they don't keep food or milk in house and they don't want to go to go to the market. If you are going on a cruise "just wait until you get on the ship". The stairs are steep, halls are narrow and there is no air conditioning. Hope you don't have heavy bags or a bad back If you are ok with budget friendly and don't mind the aged musty smell then this place is for you. If you prefer a bit more modern convenience then choose a different location.

What a rip off. Old, dingy, tiny room NO AC on hot summer's day and crmped tiny bathroom- no staff, no Breakfast either and nearly £100 ! Ridiculous. We checked out the moment we checked in and stayed elsewhere. Total dump and will not be returning. Very disappointing and overpriced. My husband and I were shocked at the size gor the price. Avoid!

On site parking is always a bonus and here there was a choice, including between a forecourt space, a rear car park or in a garage. Initially difficult to get in as I didn’t have the email with the code, but super helpful staff quickly sorted that and the room was clean and spacious with a fully fitted bathroom. Locally, lovely pub (the Dog & Dick) at the end of the road which does food, great beer & live sports. Close to the city and near a main bus route.
