Gorgeous hotel, great location. Loved our room terrace overlooking the harbour. Had to complain about the shampoo being refilled with water but this was soon rectified by reception. Staff were all fabulous especially Martha, she always greeted you with a fabulous smile. Enjoyed the rooftop terrace and pool even though the water was freezing! Had a delicious meal at hotel restaurant. Happy hour drinks were enjoyed but we were disappointed that the hotel bar was closed a few days each week.

Big rooms with a comfortable bed, shower room was nicely finished. The hotel had a pool on the roof terrace with great views overlooking the harbour. Restaurant food was very good. Things to improve - the suite we stayed in was damp, it had a dehumidifier in it which needed emptying regulary. The pool was dirty with debris at the bottom and floating.

This hotel was amazing. It’s built within an old fortress and there was some work being done for maintenance, but that is of course inevitable. If not for the maintenance, it would have been 5 stars all the way. The junior suite was huge, especially by European standards. Highly recommend to anyone who wants an interesting and unique high end experience. The only downside is there is only dinner on Friday and Saturday nights but they have a great wine collection to take back to your room and plenty to eat near by! Loved!!!!

Lovely hotel, nice staff, good breakfast, big rooms. Only critique is the pool areas isn't massive, we could always get a bed, but in the height of summer could be more difficult.

The rooftop and pool area is amazing. Not many shops in the area, but you have 5min walk to the Valletta Ferry. Really nice and quiet in the evening with restaurants nearby the marina.

Lovely rooms. Attentive service. Pool was very nice with a wonderful view of the marina and area. They gave us a lovely To Go breakfast for an early flight. They looked after us very well and would return again.

Lovely property and fantastic staff who made us feel so welcome. From the first moment when we arrived to when we left it seemed nothing was too much trouble. Perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness from all the staff, and the room was outstanding. We wish the Little Bastion had been open more than just the Friday and Saturday nights as food was excellent, but no shortage of restaurants in walking distance nearby. Great location too for getting around the island especially with the convenient ferry into Valletta. Really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

A beautiful, historic building and a lovely, lovely hotel. Staff could not do enough for us and we're super friendly. Caterena was a star. Room very well equipped. Various International TV stations and free WiFi. Breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice and cooked fresh. Great quality. Rooftop pool was a lovely facility but lost the sun by 4:30 (Oct). Restaurant was open Weds to Sunday for dinner and was another jem. Situated in a tranquil suburb across from Valetta you need to take the ferry or a Taxi. Would not hesitate to stay again

The Grand Harbour Macina Suite is a nice spacious room which is suites to 4 adults or maybe a family. The hotel is clean and a beautiful building. What let’s it down is the finishes for example .. flakey paint, grime around the sealant on the shower, a poor repair jobs on towel hooks which an eye sore once noticed, the pool was often not cleaned and appeared the same for a few days with muck on the bottom. However, was a nice size. The location is great if you want peace and a short boat trip to Valletta. However, cannot justify the price of the hotel. This is of course just my opinion.

We had a four night stay for our family of 5 in December. The hotel is very atmospheric as it is built into 16th century battlements. The room was large, modern, well equiped and clean. The breakfast was amazing in the Michelin star restaurant. However the best element of all was the staff and the service. They were tremendously helpful. Whether it was at the front desk helping with advice about restaurants and activities or the waiting staff who were wonderful. Best of all they helped us find a doctors office after one of the kids felt ill on the last day.

Spent my 40th birthday here with husband and 6 month old baby - beautiful property, the room was perhaps a little damp smelling initially with all the exposed stonework but they brought a dehumidifier into the room straight away to help and it was sorted. The staff were so so friendly, could.not have been more helpful with the baby and were so kind and attentive and made us feel so welcome. The rooftop pool is pretty chilly but that didn’t matter - think of it as ultimate refreshment in the warm weather! Breakfast was delicious and not at all restricted - order whatever you like, good portions and fabulous fresh Orange juice. Area is lovey to walk around at night by the harbour - great restaurants, easy quick ferry ride over to Valletta. Everything about this hotel was perfect and I would recommend it to anyone. Friendly Maltese hospitality at its finest - in a beautifully restored historical building - you are in for a real treat!

Warm welcome and fast check in. The room was ready even though we arrived several hours early. Fabulous large room, spotlessly clean. All staff were excellent but Nena at breakfast was absolutely brilliant and thoughtful. Beautiful location perfect for exploring and catching the ferry to Valletta. This hotel gets my highest recommendation, don’t hesitate to book.

Staff without exception were delightful and very helpful. Room was spacious and clean. Bed linen disappointing- polyester/cotton and frankly has seen better days- not however as bad as the towels and robes. They were greying , thin and rough and robes were torn in places. Brought to attention of front desk but replaced with equally old ones. Not anywhere near 5star. Rooms overlooking harbour are quite noisy from early morning and in the evenings even with windows shut. Breakfast in hotel was nice but very expensive- although one could eat a lot if one was up to it as the price was the same. Dinner in Little Bastion was pretty disappointing. Cold bendy old chips ( sent back) and pretty flavourless fish with uncertain sauces. And quite expensive tho service was good. Pool area very nice and pool menu tasty. We enjoyed our stay and the hotel’s situation away from central Valletta , but there is room for improvement in one or two areas.

Väldigt fint hotell men servicen från restaurangen och frukosten var inte alls bra. Vi fick vänta 40 minuter på vår frukost, maten var god men väntetiden förstörde då vi fick vänta väldigt länge på maten. Personalen i receptionen och övrig personal verkade inte synkade och vi fick flera gånger felaktig information. Personalen i receptionen var otroligt behjälpliga och hade väldigt bra service, men det förstörde mycket att övrig personal inte hade koll och vi fick olika information flera gånger. Städningen och städpersonalen var otroligt duktiga och super trevliga.

Much more than what we expected, it's a bit like Dr Who's telephone box, the hotel looks small on the outside but once you go inside, it is spacious, modern, clean, and has friendly staff. Very tentative, credit to the hotel. Also the hotel is in a great location. The only slight issue was the towels, which were very tired and in bad condition, but this was a minor issue. Look forward to the next visit.

Phenomenal hotel. Room was huge and historic. All of the staff were so welcoming. Breakfast on the harbour side was generous and delicious. Roof top pool had amazing views. Highly recommended

Things to improve - the suite we stayed in was damp, it had a dehumidifier in it which needed emptying regulary. The pool was dirty with debris at the bottom and floating.

The space and view from our harbour corner suite was fantastic we had an outlook over the harbour to Birku. All the staff were friendly and couldnt do enough for you. The restaurant and pool were excellent. We have had three holidays here and will be back again.

Staff without exception were delightful and very helpful. Room was spacious and clean. Bed linen disappointing- polyester/cotton and frankly has seen better days- not however as bad as the towels and robes. They were greying , thin and rough and robes were torn in places. Brought to attention of front desk but replaced with equally old ones. Not anywhere near 5star. Rooms overlooking harbour are quite noisy from early morning and in the evenings even with windows shut. Breakfast in hotel was nice but very expensive- although one could eat a lot if one was up to it as the price was the same. Dinner in Little Bastion was pretty disappointing. Cold bendy old chips ( sent back) and pretty flavourless fish with uncertain sauces. And quite expensive tho service was good. Pool area very nice and pool menu tasty. We enjoyed our stay and the hotel’s situation away from central Valletta , but there is room for improvement in one or two areas.

Room was huge and gorgeous, with every amenity, staff in hotel and restaurant were gracious and welcoming. we travel frequently, and stayed in beautiful places, but this is the first time I felt compelled to write a review

Väldigt fint hotell men servicen från restaurangen och frukosten var inte alls bra. Vi fick vänta 40 minuter på vår frukost, maten var god men väntetiden förstörde då vi fick vänta väldigt länge på maten. Personalen i receptionen och övrig personal verkade inte synkade och vi fick flera gånger felaktig information. Personalen i receptionen var otroligt behjälpliga och hade väldigt bra service, men det förstörde mycket att övrig personal inte hade koll och vi fick olika information flera gånger. Städningen och städpersonalen var otroligt duktiga och super trevliga.

Lovely property and fantastic staff who made us feel so welcome. From the first moment when we arrived to when we left it seemed nothing was too much trouble. Perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness from all the staff, and the room was outstanding. We wish the Little Bastion had been open more than just the Friday and Saturday nights as food was excellent, but no shortage of restaurants in walking distance nearby. Great location too for getting around the island especially with the convenient ferry into Valletta. Really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

A beautiful, historic building and a lovely, lovely hotel. Staff could not do enough for us and we're super friendly. Caterena was a star. Room very well equipped. Various International TV stations and free WiFi. Breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice and cooked fresh. Great quality. Rooftop pool was a lovely facility but lost the sun by 4:30 (Oct). Restaurant was open Weds to Sunday for dinner and was another jem. Situated in a tranquil suburb across from Valetta you need to take the ferry or a Taxi. Would not hesitate to stay again

The conversion of a 500 year old fort into a unique and very cool modern hotel is just awesome. Every part of the hotel was designed perfectly. We just loved the location and the view from our room was spectacular. We would definitely come back again. The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful. The location was perfect and very close to the ferry which takes you to Valletta. And there are great dining option in the 3 areas surrounding the hotel as well. Breakfast was really good as well as the service. We would highly recommend this property.

Unique upscale hotel in a charming neighborhood. Great views over the Grand Harbor. Easy access to Valletta with the ferry and very easy access to some of the best sites in the south of the island (Blue Grotto, Marsaxlokk..) plus the airport. Nice restaurant and beautiful swimming pool on the roof terrace.

We had a four night stay for our family of 5 in December. The hotel is very atmospheric as it is built into 16th century battlements. The room was large, modern, well equiped and clean. The breakfast was amazing in the Michelin star restaurant. However the best element of all was the staff and the service. They were tremendously helpful. Whether it was at the front desk helping with advice about restaurants and activities or the waiting staff who were wonderful. Best of all they helped us find a doctors office after one of the kids felt ill on the last day.

Gorgeous hotel, great location. Loved our room terrace overlooking the harbour. Had to complain about the shampoo being refilled with water but this was soon rectified by reception. Staff were all fabulous especially Martha, she always greeted you with a fabulous smile. Enjoyed the rooftop terrace and pool even though the water was freezing! Had a delicious meal at hotel restaurant. Happy hour drinks were enjoyed but we were disappointed that the hotel bar was closed a few days each week.

This hotel was amazing. It’s built within an old fortress and there was some work being done for maintenance, but that is of course inevitable. If not for the maintenance, it would have been 5 stars all the way. The junior suite was huge, especially by European standards. Highly recommend to anyone who wants an interesting and unique high end experience. The only downside is there is only dinner on Friday and Saturday nights but they have a great wine collection to take back to your room and plenty to eat near by! Loved!!!!

We enjoyed our stay and the hotel’s situation away from central Valletta , but there is room for improvement in one or two areas.

Väldigt fint hotell men servicen från restaurangen och frukosten var inte alls bra. Vi fick vänta 40 minuter på vår frukost, maten var god men väntetiden förstörde då vi fick vänta väldigt länge på maten. Personalen i receptionen och övrig personal verkade inte synkade och vi fick flera gånger felaktig information. Personalen i receptionen var otroligt behjälpliga och hade väldigt bra service, men det förstörde mycket att övrig personal inte hade koll och vi fick olika information flera gånger. Städningen och städpersonalen var otroligt duktiga och super trevliga.

Lovely property and fantastic staff who made us feel so welcome. From the first moment when we arrived to when we left it seemed nothing was too much trouble. Perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness from all the staff, and the room was outstanding. We wish the Little Bastion had been open more than just the Friday and Saturday nights as food was excellent, but no shortage of restaurants in walking distance nearby. Great location too for getting around the island especially with the convenient ferry into Valletta. Really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

The hotel was fantastic, & made our holiday feel like a luxury getaway from the moment we arrived. The design & layout of the hotel is stylish & well thought out, & the rooms are excellent as well with great amenities. The rooftop pool was an excellent place to relax on an afternoon as well. The staff are all incredibly friendly, helpful & keen to assist in any way they can. The on site restaurant is excellent, with great quality meals for breakfast & dinner, including a great range of Vegan items. Having seen that Cugo Gran have other hotels in locations across Italy & Spain, we wouldn't hesitate to book into one of their other hotels after our experience in Malta!

A beautiful, historic building and a lovely, lovely hotel. Staff could not do enough for us and we're super friendly. Caterena was a star. Room very well equipped. Various International TV stations and free WiFi. Breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice and cooked fresh. Great quality. Rooftop pool was a lovely facility but lost the sun by 4:30 (Oct). Restaurant was open Weds to Sunday for dinner and was another jem. Situated in a tranquil suburb across from Valetta you need to take the ferry or a Taxi. Would not hesitate to stay again

The hotel was great and really cool. It's a converted fortress. The rooms are super spacious. Location is excellent too, super beautiful and very atmospheric but less crowded that Valletta proper

This hotel is one of the nicest I’ve visited in the last half century. From airport pickup to check in to breakfast as well as pool visits the staff couldn’t be better.

The hotel was beautiful and it had a lovely fragrance as soon as you entered. The room was amazing, perfect for myself, husband and grown up daughter as she had her own private space. The rooftop pool was absolutely stunning with a fantastic view. We really looked forward to breakfast each morning as there was a very good selection. We also dined in the restaurant twice. The food was excellent, We really enjoyed the Swordfish. The staff were also extremely helpful and very friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel. We loved every moment and I could not fault anything. 😊

Overall a very beautiful property. We found the rooms to be dark with most windows opening to internal areas of the hotel. The stone walls make for a damp room that can sometimes smell a bit musky. The bathrooms are modern but dark. The restaurant is fabulous. The staff and overall location is excellent. Located far away from the tourist chaos of Valletta.
