Hotel Astoria

A tired hotel but great location and so it was perfect for our needs but no kettle in our room or hot drink facilities in the lobby which felt a bit odd in this day and age.

Great location. No parking. Ok breakfast. Old hotel showing its age. Self-serve honour bar. Awkward shower handle. Glad only there one night.

Great service friendly staff and a great location for a nights stay. Charming art deco hotel, a little tired but very original. I would stay again. Internet seemed to only work in the lobby.

I was stunned to learn that there is no Internet in the rooms. The hotel has plenty of old-fashioned charm and should stay that way. But since it accepted electricity, it could also accept Internet in the rooms.

The hotel needs serious updating, painting, carpet replacement. The furniture had seen better days..... However, the charm was visible, the staff was excellent, and very helpful, and the room was very clean. Beds were comfortable and the linens were nice. The hotel is in an excellent location, and we had a view of the river from our room. The breakfast was nice, with eggs, meats, fruit, yogurt, pastries, and coffee and juices. No wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby.

Parking is a few blocks away from hotel. Great location. Great restaurants very close. Very old but quaint.

Nice hotel, a bit run down. Breakfast ok. Internet did not work well at all - this is what really disappointed me. I had to work and was dependant on the network - i had to go to a cafe instead. Really disappointing. Really good location and easy to find parking across the bridge.

De acordo com as expetativas. O Hotel é muito bonito mas precisa de algumas manutenções/renovações, principalmente nos quartos. A falta de wifi nos quartos pode tornar-se inconveniente para muitos Quartos bem limpos, cama e almofadas confortáveis

O hotel, apesar de muito rico, arquitetonicamente, é muito velho e necessita de uma reforma urgente. Aspecto de sujo e mal acabado, muitas partes em madeira velha, banheiro ultrapassado, sem fluxo de água, banheira com rachaduras, metais muito usados. Móveis antigos, piso que range quando caminha. Café da manhã com produtos de ma qualidade, frutas velhas, pouca opção. Apesar de bem localizado, não recomendo hospedar ali.

Hotel room smelled old. Carpet was old and stained Breakfast was below par for compared to all our other stays in Portugal.

Beautiful and elegant antique hotel. Everything they kept original. It is like you are walking on a 1930 movie. Very elegant and charming. The elevator is very unique and gives you the vintage feeling of the time. Although, I guess… even the carpet is original… this vintage hotel is so wonderful, but they do need new carpets asap (the old carpet gives the hotel a cheap, weird vibe). They need to figure out how to incorporate a new carpet with an antique style. Bedroom was ok beautiful decorated with vintage furniture, bed was very comfortable. They do not have a huge balcony, but quite nice to have the Mondego River view (keep in mind that the view in the pictures is better, in the real life view, the hotel has plenty of bus stops in front of it, and unfortunately they were having construction when we were there - noisy and dusty). Breakfast was poor in quality and options; fruits were not cut; coffee was terrible, not a gluten free friendly place. Hotel is very close to many coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and pharmacies. Overall this is a nice vintage hotel budget friendly in a very central location for travelers who are visiting the city for a couple days.

O hotel nos recebeu muito bem, o check-in era as 15h, mas permitiram que eu guardasse as bagagens por volta de 10h30 e pudesse dar uma volta na cidade. Tudo é extremamente antigo conforme a proposta do hotel, o ar condicionado do quarto não estava funcionando e não havia outro quarto disponível, porém pedi um ventilador e os mesmos foram gentis em disponibilizar um aparelho para nós. O pequeno almoço é muito bom, não deixa nada a desejar. Já estava ciente que o Wi-Fi não funcionava nos quartos e isso não foi um problema. Único ponto que precisa melhorar é quanto a limpeza, chegamos no quarto e ainda havia cabelos no chão e lixo no banheiro, mas fora isso tivemos uma estadia boa e posso voltar em breve.

Tudo muito velho. Quarto com carpete extremamente sujo e com cheiro de mofo.

Pretty hotel in Coimbra. The lobby and dining room are quite beautiful and the room was good and very clean.

Ein so gut erhaltenes altes Hotel mit soviel Original-Bauteilen sieht man extrem selten. Manchen wird es nicht gefallen, es ist kein modernes 08/15 Hotel. Wo sieht man noch einen Aufzug mit Sitzbank! Gut erhaltene Original-Holzmöbel. Wunderschöner alter Heizkörper. Salon, sogar ein Telefon-Räumchen ist erhalten. Schöner Frühstücksraum. Solche Hotels suche ich, etwas Besonderes. Alles sauber, wenn auch ein bisschen in die Jahre gekommen.

The room was clean but the wardrobe was run down. The carpets really need a change. There was a typical carpet smell in the hotel. The bath tub was tiny and barely space to stand in it to shower. The shower stand was broken. The breakfast was decent.

Bathroom was ok but not the best. Power outlets are scarce, you need to have your own multi outlet adapter.

Hotel com excelente localização, porém muito ultrapassado. Necessita urgente de uma remodelação para dar conforto tanto nos quartos quanto no geral. Camas e travesseiros péssimos. Tv sem possibilidade de canais (1 estação somente) ar condicionado ruim.

Mattresses are far too firm to be restfull.

Hôtel au style art déco idéal pour un voyage dans le temps. Vue sur la rivière. Calme. Chambre spacieuse (301). Personnel courtois.

100+ year old hotel that they have tried to preserve close to it’s original character. Obviously it wont have modern features and that’s fine with me. I only gave this three stars not because of the age but because of the hardness of the bed and issues with the cooling/fan. Cooling issues were resolved quickly (thank you!). Bed hardness was not (until I could get back to my chiropractor). The breakfast was very nice (European), but it was the same every day. Some variety would be nice. Staff were mostly friendly and accommodating.

O Hotel tem excelente localização. Bom pequeno almoço. Mas, ouve-se tudo dos quartos do andar de cima. A TV tem apenas 4 canais e mesmo esses em péssimas condições. Não tem WiFi nos quartos o que actualmente é estranho. No que se refere oa Staff nada a referir a não ser simpatia. Uma experiência a não repetir. Há um leque de escolha melhor em Coimbra.

What a treat. Staff at check in were fantastic. Throughout my stay which I extended I found this place to be charming and full of little surprises. Breakfast was included and lovely and there is an honesty bar!!! Location is fantastic.

Staff is very friendly and helpful, providing all kinds of suggestions on what to do and where to eat in Coimbra. They are extremely willing to help with whatever questions we had. They helped find our lost items and shipped them to our next hotel.

A lovely hotel full of character and excellent staff.

Great location but hotel is run down and could do with updating. No coffee making facilities in the rooms and shower temperature is hit and miss. When we arrived staff were very rude and spoke to us like something she had just stood on.

Lovely older hotel. If you want unique accommodation with wonderful staff and a delicious breakfast, choose this place!

This is a beautiful, old, century hotel with authentic charm. The desk people (Sonia) were kind and helpful. Our room had a lovely view of the river. We could walk everywhere and really enjoyed what the city has to offer. Good value for our money.

We cannot recommend Hotel Astoria, due to the front desk staff and management. We arrived at around 2:00 on a very hot afternoon. The only thing cool in the lobby was the attitude of the desk clerk, who without friendliness denied us an option of early check-in (which was at 3:00 - other hotels have allowed it). We went back into the heat and returned at 3:00. The same clerk gave us our key without welcome. The room was hot, and the air conditioning didn't work. When we spoke with the desk clerk, she without apology or concern told us the a/c had broken the day before, and wouldn't be fixed until at least the following day. In other words, she knew when sending us to our room that it had no a/c, but hadn't bothered to tell us. We requested another room, and she told us with indifference that there were no other rooms. We asked to speak to the manager, who was as uncaring and unhelpful as the clerk, repeating more than once without apology that the hotel was fully booked. When I kept insisting that hotels almost always have something in reserve, she finally grudgingly admitted that they did have one single room available with working a/c. Indeed they did, and we took it. The staff's utter lack of kindness, helpfulness, and concern was the worst we've experienced in decades of travel. All our other Portugal lodgings had lovely staff whose kindness and help enriched our stays. The Astoria, a sweet, shabby old beauty of a hotel, deserves better staff and so do her customers.

We enjoyed the old world charm of this property and the location is amazing , right on the river with many options for food and culture right outside the doors.

The building is 100 years old and a bit of a time capsule. The location is fantastic if you arrive by train at Coimbra-A as it's a 3 minute walk away. Lots of good restaurants in the street behind the hotel. The staff were super helpful with ideas and maps -- much better than the official tourism office staff!

It was like going back to the 2920’s, what a great property full of nostalgia and old world charm. The only negative was that parking was a bit of an issue as we had to park across the river..

Hotel antigo em frente ao Rio Mondego e ao lado do centro da cidade. Quartos espaçosos com vista para o rio. Embora seja antigo, o hotel está com boas instalações. Ótimo pequeno almoço.

Tired interior still full of character. Would definitely stay again. Breakfast was excellent. Parking requires a little walking, but there is a very easy loading area by front door. Great great location by main walking area. Plenty of restaurants and small supermarket within a block.

Located in the centre of all tourism points

We had a nice time in this city. This hotel is not far from the train station and is very close to food, shopping and the river.

The Astoria is keeping an atmosphere of the beginning of XXth century. A great experience to sit in the (slow but comfortable) elevator or in the breakfast room. The furnitures and the decoration give you the impression that Hercule Poirot will appear suddenly to solve a mystery! On the back side, the old bathtub is not so comfortable for a shower, and the breakfast products could be of better quality. Altogether a good experience. Perfect location to explore Coimbra.

It’s a nostalgic hotel with a lot of antique furniture set in a mood of 1930s. Location is super convenient. We have the river view which is so beautiful. Thr room is spacious and with a big balcony. Staff is friendly and super efficient. They provide a lot of useful tourist information and dining options. Breakfast is sumptuous and delicious too!
