Everything was amazing! Large comfortable room, loved the tub with jacuzzi jets. The on site Bistro has very tasty food! Caesar salad was excellent. Had services at the Spa as well, top notch. Shout out to Jenn 😊 Walking distance to downtown but beautiful quiet location. I can’t recommend enough.

We love staying at the Monastery. The staff, spa and bistro are all amazing. No matter how much hustle and bustle during the day, we leave feeling refreshed and relaxed. Highly recommend for a quiet getaway and some “Me” time.

Room was very well equipped, roomy, modernized and clean. Area was peaceful, tucked away from traffic and just quiet. They have a similar peaceful bistro with a nice tucked away outdoor patio. The spa is a fantastic addition though I didn't have time try it. It does look like a full service spa and wellness centre.

This is a lovely spa hotel in a quiet area away from the downtown. Breakfast is included but the on-site bistro is small and the breakfast choices very limited. There are more choices if you are purchasing breakfast but we were not made aware of this.

The grounds were lovely and well kept. We loved breakfast at the bistro—especially that it was served all day, every day. The first room that we were given had very dirty floors (we found something sticky on the floor by the bed that we cleaned up) but we appreciated that we were given a new room. In that room, there were still some hairs left in the tubs and the furniture was very old (the mattress was bowed and the furniture was scuffed). However, we appreciated that the hotel staff acknowledged that this wasn’t their standard and were willing to fix the problem.

Nice hotel, good breakfast, easy and free parking. It’s not really close enough to restaurants and sites for walking but we had a car so that was fine for us. Our room was clean and very quiet. The fireplace and complemental wine were appreciated!

Included breakfast was okay. Room dated, but clean. Dining staff could make guests aware that there is a full menu available just not included with their room package. Room is a little worse for wear… bed wasn’t comfortable, top bedding needs cleaning, no skirt/duster on bed which exposed the box springs (not a good look), floors have pieces missing, bathroom needs to be patched up and repainted, toilet handle broken. Definitely didn’t feel like a room normally thought off when you think of a spa hotel.

Liked the location of the room... More like an apartment with outside entrance... Room design was nice. Room wasn't cleaned thoroughly after the last guest as there was a pair of men's underwear behind the bed. The only reason we know this as the fitted sheet kept coming off the mattress and we had to routinely replace it. Even though the please clean room sign was placed on the door daily it was not cleaned as when we asked to have it cleaned dirty glasses and garbage we're not replaced. Sign was placed the following day on the door but no cleaning was done. The air condition unit was as low as it could go and yet the room was still uncomfortably hot for sleeping. When checking out the staff did not ask how out stay was as I would have told them verbally, but as they hadn't I have written this review.

Breakfast was not great, had the eggs Benedict. $20 and doesn’t come with hash browns or any side. There was a certain smell to the room/linen that was overwhelming. Room definitely in need of an update!

The hotel was clean, the beds were comfortable and the staff was friendly. The hotel is very quiet while we were there. We also had a heat wave during our stay & the hotel had the room prepped so it was nice & cool for our arrival (which was not the case at other hotels during our travels!). I found this to be one of the few hotels downtown where you didn’t have to pay for parking & there was lots of parking. This is nice because parking is limited in downtown St Johns. It was an easy walk to George St/Water St area for food & shopping. Although you do have to walk up a hill to get back to the hotel at the end of an evening. The only issue we had with the hotel &why i didn’t give it 5 stars is because the WiFi is horrible.

Hotel has potential but totally unachieved. Pro: location close to downtown, room large size, bed comfortable and bed coverings up to date. Con: dark colour pallet make room cold, air in room is musty and window doesn't open to air it out, two tiles in bathroom broken and grout missing on third, old moldy sushi in bar fridge, four empty beer bottles on floor, no face soap or shampoo in room and not available first night when asked at desk, room wifi connection dropped several time and when inquired front desk told it was issue with previous guests and it is the customers problem not theirs. Evening front desk attendant has no personality and any issues not of any interest or concern for her. Hotels bones could be good if run properly but definitely not.

Convenient location - 15 min walk to the harbour downtown. Spacious room, jacuzzi, and fireplace make it really cozy to relax. Decent complimentary breakfast - just a few options, but for those fine with a classic breakfast option, it’s quite tasty and does the job

Very nice property. I would be happy to stay again. But the room I stayed seem to have little or no sound insulation. Noises from the hall were loud enough to appear they were in the room. And I could even hear quiet sounds (like running water) from adjacent rooms. Still, very nice property.

Room was incredible for the price, the jacuzzi tub was a nice surprise. Very quiet area. My only real complaints (and they're minor) the floor could use some maintenance. A few of the planks need to be replaced I think. And the a/c i thought was kinda noisy.

The rooms were ok, but finishes were worn and dated. Flooring had gaps, llighting flickered and there were unfinished fixtures in the wall. Mini bar was abandoned and the mini fridge was noisy. The hot tubs in the room were a novelty and clean. The facility was kind enough to let us use the physio space and equipment as a gym. But no gym towles or disinfectant. An OK stay. The breakfast was good, but limited selection and more limited substitutions.

We recently stayed at this hotel and while we did experience a couple of problems with our room, I have to say the front desk staff were absolutely outstanding. From the moment we brought the issues to their attention, they handled everything with professionalism, patience, and genuine care. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and satisfied with our stay.

Staff were friendly and the location was great as it was easy access to everything. Kudos to the staff member who gave me extra tissue as I got sick while I was there. Sounds silly but this extra care made a difference. Thank you!

The Monastery Spa and The Monastery Suites both charged our credit card for our three night stay in August. Despite me calling twice in August to ask their help in correcting the issue, they have not done anything and now I need to ask my credit card company to dispute the charge. I spoke with someone on the desk who said they would help last month, and nothing heard since. Not impressed with service.

I showed up at the property to check in and the door was locked I called the number multiple times with no answer I left a message and a call back number. Nobody returned my call I also left a massage with the manager and they also never returned my call I waited over an hour outside before I got in the hotel to check in I was very disappointed cause this is a hotel I like to stay

Our first time here and the overall serenity of this place is beautiful. clean, inviting and the service in the restaurant is fantastic. the view at the restaurant is also calming and we will for sure be back again.

The included breakfast was available in the hotel’s spa building. The Spa building was a beautiful renovated character building. Great staff in bistro. They were friendly, warm, and efficient. Disappointed in our room as it was not in the main hotel but in an unattractive auxiliary building. Room was spacious and modern. Hotel reception was unfriendly and unwelcoming. The included breakfast was available in the hotel’s spa building. The Spa building was a beautiful renovated character building. Great staff in bistro. They were friendly, warm, and efficient. Disappointed in our room as it was not in the main hotel but in an unattractive auxiliary building. Room was spacious and modern. Hotel reception was unfriendly and unwelcoming. Monastery is wonderful! This was my second time staying here. The staff is kind, the food is great, the rooms are clean, and it feels very safe and welcoming. My first stay, they even did all my laundry, including my bag, and returned it the same day which was so helpful. This will continue to be my go-to place to stay in St. John’s!

Nice hotel, good breakfast, easy and free parking. It’s not really close enough to restaurants and sites for walking but we had a car so that was fine for us. Our room was clean and very quiet. The fireplace and complemental wine were appreciated!

Great property in a quiet location. Walkable to downtown St. John’s which allowed for minimal Uber usage. Breakfast in the morning was good fuel for most of the day and the staff were all very helpful and accommodating.

Everything was amazing! Large comfortable room, loved the tub with jacuzzi jets. The on site Bistro has very tasty food! Caesar salad was excellent. Had services at the Spa as well, top notch. Shout out to Jenn 😊 Walking distance to downtown but beautiful quiet location. I can’t recommend enough.

Included breakfast was okay. Room dated, but clean. Dining staff could make guests aware that there is a full menu available just not included with their room package. Room is a little worse for wear… bed wasn’t comfortable, top bedding needs cleaning, no skirt/duster on bed which exposed the box springs (not a good look), floors have pieces missing, bathroom needs to be patched up and repainted, toilet handle broken. Definitely didn’t feel like a room normally thought off when you think of a spa hotel.

Convenient location - 15 min walk to the harbour downtown. Spacious room, jacuzzi, and fireplace make it really cozy to relax. Decent complimentary breakfast - just a few options, but for those fine with a classic breakfast option, it’s quite tasty and does the job

This is a lovely spa hotel in a quiet area away from the downtown. Breakfast is included but the on-site bistro is small and the breakfast choices very limited. There are more choices if you are purchasing breakfast but we were not made aware of this.

For the love of God do not put people in 203 when you are doing laundry. I was very tired from my travels and being woken up every hour or so exhausted me. If you had not change my roo. I would have given you a bad review.

I booked the room with Spa at the Monastery a week ago and paid in full, $275. I had plans made to go out the night that I booked, so I was all excited to come and stay and then go out and enjoy myself and come back to enjoy the beautiful room. When I came into the lobby to get checked in, I was told that there would be an additional $250 held on my card. I bank with Koho, and even though it is considered to be a Mastercard, it functions as a debit account. What this means is that I walked in there after spending $275 the week before, and had $270 left to my name to go enjoy myself. The check in process took almost every cent I had and left me with $20 to my name. I was surprised and upset and voiced this to the staff checking me in, and she actually laughed. My plans were ruined. If the room could have been cancelled at that point I would have walked away and never come back to this hotel again. The room was lovely but the first time i used the washroom and went to dry my hands on the hand towel, the entire metal towel rack released off the wall mount and fell down and hit my bare foot. It’s a beautiful place but my trip was completely ruined.
