Valley Craft Ales is an Old Mill turned into a Restaurant and Lodging location. It is conveniently located in downtown Wilmington, VT. There is no receptionist so you have to let yourself in with a computer code. You may find yourself approached by two aggressively barking midsize dogs, if you arrive after hours. If you do, don't panic, their barks are bigger than their bites. The rooms are comfortable,clean, quiet and pest free. There is a terrific River out back that can be seen and heard, from your window which is calmingp. You can even swim in it. Great ventilation. On the downside, we had sink faucet problems which were repaired after a few days.. We were told we would be refunded for those. .There is sn unswept rocky front stairway and a building exterior badly in need of some carpentry repair and a fresh coat of red paint. They have, on some evenings, guitar entertainment but it's low and nice background music in the room. They stop at 9:00 pm to not keep Lodgers up. It can be a super comfortable stay if they just fix some of the glitches. The need stairway Masonry to create a smooth sidewalk to the back River. The place has a LOT of promise. The dogs need a backyard. The Management was warm and friendly. Decent people . #####

Overall, I may stay here again but it won’t necessarily be my first choice. The inn is in a small town with several restaurants (with vegan options, though none onsite at the bar restaurant downstairs). I appreciated that the inn description kept mentioning it was upstairs to the bar and band space. They provided earplugs. But it wasn’t the band I had to content with but the neighboring rooms watching football and their dog barking every time a play was made. After the game ended, everything went quiet though, and I slept through the night. I wish the window had screens so I could have left it open to hear the River rushing. The room was old but clean and comfortable. I am grateful for another guest who posted photos of the carpeted staircase you have to climb to get to the inn because I missed the one tiny sign inside pointing to the inn and wouldn’t have known where to go (the inn is unstaffed, tho they text you lock info and are responsive that way).

Housed in a former riverside mill, the rooms are basic, simple no frills rooms. The bathroom was fine (shower stall), heat excellent, but walls are very thin. Fortunately it was a quiet weekday nite for me, so the few customers went to bed early, and there was no band downstairs in the restaurant/bar. There is no front desk, you enter with door codes which worked fine. The low price was most attractive for me, and I was skiing at Mt Snow the next day. On a full weekend, parking may be kind of far from the entrance which could be a pain.

Property is definitely unique! There is no front desk or check in; you get an email or text with the code to your door and your room number and that's it. Convenient, but nobody to talk to if you had any issues. The rooms are above the bar, and they frequently have live music, so be mindful of that. I will say that I stayed on a Saturday night and the music was done by 10:45pm, but you could still hear people at the bar and going in and out of the front door, and even people just coughing in the next room. It is a very old building, and they do supply you with ear plugs as they understand that noise is an issue. The beer was good, the pizza was good, so if you just need a bed for the night and don't mind noise, it's a fine place to stay.

This is my second time staying here. This experience was definitely better than the last as I knew exactly what to expect in regards to noise, the band, parking and crowds. If you know what to expect it is the perfect place. It is not a place to stay if you want good sleep. But if you want great pizza and music, it is perfect if you’re trying to ski on a budget. Come prepared with noise cancelling headphones.

The Valley Craft Ales is a great location. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The location is convenient, right in the town of Wilmington. It is walkable to a number of restaurants and bars. Mt. Snow is 15 minutes up the road and the Moo-ver is a great way to get there. VCA also has great beer and pizza right down stairs along with live music occasionally.

Family room in this rustic Vermont ski lodge was simple, clean, basic with one queen bed and two twin beds, one dresser, two lamps. Good A/C. Bathroom was clean, simple, small. The floor was slanted from door to bath/shower. The toilet handle was broken inside the tank requiring manual lifting of the flapper. We were staying to attend a family event so did not try to contact staff. Upon arrival a kind staff person assisted with our luggage up steep stairs. The bar/restaurant was open occasionally. We were not made aware of microwave in common area. No instructions were available in the room. One other person was on the second floor next door during our time. When they ran their shower it was very loud. Basic clean rustic place to sleep. Nice view out the back windows over the river.

The band was great, the sound insulation was nonexistent. (Earplugs supplied in the room - no kidding.) Fortunately the music wrapped up by 11. This is not a generic hotel. It’s an adventure, but a good one. The place is clean and functional. The room decor is Bicentennial (yes, as in c. 1976), but somehow it all works. Stay there and have fun.

The website indicates air conditioning. The thermostats did not work so no air conditioning. Other lighting was so bad I couldn’t see anything much but everything looked dingy and dirty. The bathroom sink was tiny and the second bathroom was across a public hall when it was represented as a two bathroom unit. It was so bad that we had to find another hotel to stay in. We did not stay in the room that was totally paid for. Complete waste of money.

It was an easy and pleasant stay. Perfect for the price if you are just looking for somewhere to lay your head. We didn't see another human our two days there but we got in late and left early. Most importantly it was clean.

A very unique place to stay in southern VT. I did love my view overlooking the river. I can imagine it's a great place to stay in the summer, especially as a group if you're looking for local lodging close to hiking etc. I was there end of May, just before the start of the summer season apparently, and it was all but abandoned which was disconcerting to me. I arrived on a day when the restaurant and bar were closed (monday) and no staff were present. The place has a code lock on the front door for self check-in. It was completely dark and uninhabited when i arrived. Turns out (I learned from one of the owners that was present later that evening) I was one of 2 people staying in the whole place. Being in a town I've never been to before, travelling alone, this was not my ideal. Had I not arrived on a monday, the bar and restaurant would have been open though, and that would have likely felt very different. I would consider staying again under different circumstances because the place is very unique (building and antiques) and the owner was cool when I ran into him. But the whole place (especially windows, carpets and probably HVAC sys) could use a deep spring cleaning! 3 stars for cleanliness felt pretty generous but the bedding and bathroom were spotless and i'm giving the benefit of the doubt due to being off season.

Room was nice and clean, hot water was HOT, nice views of the creek, town right around the corner and 15 mins to Mount Snow. We had a great time. The pizza and bar/beer beneath the rooms was great. I was impressed with their beer. The staff were super friendly. The rooms are small(older historic building which was very nice) and have no tv/fridge/microwave so just keep that in mind if you need those things. The noise complaints on some reviews seem irrational. It’s an older building and above a bar/band scene some nights. Not sure what they expect. We had a great stay and will be returning!

Very clean and comfortable room with an excellent view of the stream and the trees outside. No TV in the room; perfect for anyone looking for a night away. The walls are thin so if you are sensitive to noise I would not recommend as I could clearly hear my neighbor snoring, however ear plugs are provided in the room should you need them. I would stay here again should I be in the area.

If you want a rustic no frills place to stay, then this is a good place to go. It was an unusual experience, but not in a bad way. There’s no real check in, but the communication from the information to get into your room felt welcoming and easy to understand. The room was clean but rustic and there’s no TV which didn’t bother us but could be a difference for someone. The room was a little small but cozy. We were in the side of the river which was a bonus.

The rooms are above the bar area so it can be loud if there is a band. We knew that and were prepared. Ear plugs are provided in the room in case you need them. The room was clean and met our needs. Very reasonable price. We had a nice stay.

It's a lovely place the location is perfect and the brewery downstairs is great. You can walk to other bars and restaurants and there are gift shops in the town. The rooms were a perfect affordable place to stay when skiing at mount snow. The rooms are not fancy but it did exactly what we needed. The staff were great and the building has so much history. It was built in 1820s. Clean too

Very nice and well kept place to stay. Only two complaints but minor complaints. The bathroom was on the small side including the shower. I was also a bit surprised that there was no TV in the room either. Overall good place for what we needed it for.

Good location next to a creek in charming little Wilmington. But rooms are very small and basic. No glas, no bed table or bed lamp. Had to ask the downstair restaurant for WiFi access - but it didn’t reach up to the rooms. The downstairs restaurant seemed really nice but we came on a Sunday so there were no live music and it closed at 9 pm. Without breakfast included it wasn’t the best deal for us.

Was expecting to have AC and the room does not come with AC even though there’s a thermostat in the room. Bed was AS HARD AS A ROCK! Regardless I slept well though my boyfriend did not. Overall, if you’re just looking for a place where you’ll be in the room to just basically sleep then it might be for you. We will not re-book here. Oh and there’s no front desk or a sole around to ask for any extra pillows, towels, etc.

We love this spot! Yes, it’s an older building with history and the rooms are small, but it’s a great stay! Close to the mountain, always clean and the rooms don’t smell weird like some. The shower stall is small but water is hot! We have stayed in a few rooms and the mattresses are very hard but maybe we are just used to softer ones. You have your own thermostat and it’s not those wall units. The restaurant/bar downstairs is great. The beer is great and so is their pizza. Friendly staff also! If you are high maintenance this place may not be for you, but we love it.

A friend and I stayed 2 nights at Valley Craft Ale while we attended a 2-day golf school nearby. Neither of us is too particular about our accommodations, so we went with the lower price of the Valley Craft Ale, reassured by its "Excellent" rating. Our reservation was for one of the "family" rooms, which has 1 queen and 2 single beds. While the room was clean, the beds, chair, dresser, and rugs all had to be at least 20 years old. Both single beds sank in the middle, and the queen was extra firm. In addition, the thermostat did not control the excessive heat in the room. We were forced to open all the windows to cool the room (once we installed the temporary screens that were provided). Oh, and my bad, I neglected to notice in the room description that there was no TV in the room. I've stayed in many excellent hotels and this is not one of them.

Very clean and comfortable room with an excellent view of the stream and the trees outside. No TV in the room; perfect for anyone looking for a night away. The walls are thin so if you are sensitive to noise I would not recommend as I could clearly hear my neighbor snoring, however ear plugs are provided in the room should you need them. I would stay here again should I be in the area.

It’s a hotel room to sleep in for $100 a night..Had to buy my own soap and shampoo because the bottles were smaller than travel size. No tv. Glad I had my iPad. Keyless entry is nice. Host is very communicative, excellent in that regards. When I booked the hotel it said one room left, the place was empty, maybe 1 other person staying there…overall I’d stay here again, options are extremely limited in this area. But definitely not worth $100 a night…

Valley Craft Ales is an Old Mill turned into a Restaurant and Lodging location. It is conveniently located in downtown Wilmington, VT. There is no receptionist so you have to let yourself in with a computer code. You may find yourself approached by two aggressively barking midsize dogs, if you arrive after hours. If you do, don't panic, their barks are bigger than their bites. The rooms are comfortable,clean, quiet and pest free. There is a terrific River out back that can be seen and heard, from your window which is calmingp. You can even swim in it. Great ventilation. On the downside, we had sink faucet problems which were repaired after a few days.. We were told we would be refunded for those. .There is sn unswept rocky front stairway and a building exterior badly in need of some carpentry repair and a fresh coat of red paint. They have, on some evenings, guitar entertainment but it's low and nice background music in the room. They stop at 9:00 pm to not keep Lodgers up. It can be a super comfortable stay if they just fix some of the glitches. The need stairway Masonry to create a smooth sidewalk to the back River. The place has a LOT of promise. The dogs need a backyard. The Management was warm and friendly. Decent people . #####

Overall, I may stay here again but it won’t necessarily be my first choice. The inn is in a small town with several restaurants (with vegan options, though none onsite at the bar restaurant downstairs). I appreciated that the inn description kept mentioning it was upstairs to the bar and band space. They provided earplugs. But it wasn’t the band I had to content with but the neighboring rooms watching football and their dog barking every time a play was made. After the game ended, everything went quiet though, and I slept through the night. I wish the window had screens so I could have left it open to hear the River rushing. The room was old but clean and comfortable. I am grateful for another guest who posted photos of the carpeted staircase you have to climb to get to the inn because I missed the one tiny sign inside pointing to the inn and wouldn’t have known where to go (the inn is unstaffed, tho they text you lock info and are responsive that way).

i never got to even stay there because they never sent me the damn "passcode" to get in my room... if i had known about the whole "virtual thing" before i even made the reservation then i wouldn't have booked the reservation in the first place... i don't want to drive 4 hours to get there to find out that no one there knows the information needed to get me in my room... i waited until 3 PM which is way later than i wanted to just to see if they would respond to me giving me the door passcode,,, so they text it way after 3 and i had already forfeited the entire trip because i would be rushing at that point and speeding... not worth it.. ruins the whole happy vibe of a trip in the first place... they should have given me what i needed at the time that they billed me!!! so i lost 200$ and overall...lesson learned

Room was nice and clean, hot water was HOT, nice views of the creek, town right around the corner and 15 mins to Mount Snow. We had a great time. The pizza and bar/beer beneath the rooms was great. I was impressed with their beer. The staff were super friendly. The rooms are small(older historic building which was very nice) and have no tv/fridge/microwave so just keep that in mind if you need those things. The noise complaints on some reviews seem irrational. It’s an older building and above a bar/band scene some nights. Not sure what they expect. We had a great stay and will be returning!

The rooms were clean and safe (smoke detector, sprinkler system), and the bed and bathroom good. Beautiful creek view in the rear. There’s no staff; I’d been sent an email with door codes. I was on my own so having no staff felt very isolating. It might be different for a couple. Construction going on in the restaurant on the first floor. Workers were pleasant. Had to shovel my car out after the snow. Good pizza in the restaurant. Wilmington is an interesting little town. Check out Bartleby Books.

It's not clear on expedia that this is also a music venue but anyone intending to stay here should check the Valley Ales website because you can hear the live music in the rooms. The room was cozy and clean but the shower was extremely small (difficult to shave your legs small). I loved opening my window to hear the river outside. It was a convenient location to walk into town.

The Valley Craft Ales is a great location. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The location is convenient, right in the town of Wilmington. It is walkable to a number of restaurants and bars. Mt. Snow is 15 minutes up the road and the Moo-ver is a great way to get there. VCA also has great beer and pizza right down stairs along with live music occasionally.

It's a lovely place the location is perfect and the brewery downstairs is great. You can walk to other bars and restaurants and there are gift shops in the town. The rooms were a perfect affordable place to stay when skiing at mount snow. The rooms are not fancy but it did exactly what we needed. The staff were great and the building has so much history. Everything about this property was fantastic. Check-in was super easy, a text was sent with all necessary info before we arrived. The room was spacious and clean. The property itself was so cool and views off the back deck were spectacular. The location was within walking distance to in downtown Wilmington. We also loved that the bus stop was just feet away and free, so getting around was super easy. We would stay again for sure.

After walking around the quaint town of Wilmington, we couldn't decide where to go for dinner. We went to the bar to taste test the beer and ended up ordering a pizza. The bartender gave us ice to take upstairs. The building is an older building and has many eccentricities. We loved staying here and will stay again if in the neighborhood.

I stayed here for a much needed weekend away. Therefore, the 2-night minimum policy worked in my favor. I appreciated this policy to eliminate single overnight stays driven by the effects of the brewery on the main floor. The room was quintessentially Vermont, IMHO. No TV, but the rooms in the back of the building overlook the river. The room was furnished with eclectic antiques and a new, comfortable bed. Bedding was clean and new, with a rustic chic vibe. Bathroom was a bit dated, but clean and functional. During my stay, some rooms at the end of the hall were undergoing renovation. I did not hear any construction noise during my 2 night stay. This section of the hall was concealed by a curtain, thereby eliminating and perception of clutter. The lobby area is not staffed. The check-in process is smooth, with codes sent to me on the day of check-in for the front door and my room door. The lobby area is large and spacious with a variety of rustic-chic seating and great views of the river. This space is also occasionally used for events hosted by the brewery. Speaking of the brewery, the atmosphere is fantastically local, with many Cheers-style "Norm!" moments. Clearly many people in the area enjoy this spot as much as the tourists. Service was exceptional and friendly. The beer selection was fantastic and they even had an impressive wine selection (for a brew-pub). The homemade pizzas were above-and-beyond good! I did not intend to eat here both nights - but I did! 10/10

No TV, but the rooms in the back of the building overlook the river. The room was furnished with eclectic antiques and a new, comfortable bed. Bedding was clean and new, with a rustic chic vibe. Bathroom was a bit dated, but clean and functional. During my stay, some rooms at the end of the hall were undergoing renovation. I did not hear any construction noise during my 2 night stay. This section of the hall was concealed by a curtain, thereby eliminating and perception of clutter. The lobby area is not staffed. The check-in process is smooth, with codes sent to me on the day of check-in for the front door and my room door. The lobby area is large and spacious with a variety of rustic-chic seating and great views of the river. This space is also occasionally used for events hosted by the brewery. Speaking of the brewery, the atmosphere is fantastically local, with many Cheers-style "Norm!" moments. Clearly many people in the area enjoy this spot as much as the tourists. Service was exceptional and friendly. The beer selection was fantastic and they even had an impressive wine selection (for a brew-pub). The homemade pizzas were above-and-beyond good! I did not intend to eat here both nights - but I did! 10/10

Valley Craft Ales is an Old Mill turned into a Restaurant and Lodging location. It is conveniently located in downtown Wilmington, VT. There is no receptionist so you have to let yourself in with a computer code. You may find yourself approached by two aggressively barking midsize dogs, if you arrive after hours. If you do, don't panic, their barks are bigger than their bites. The rooms are comfortable,clean, quiet and pest free. There is a terrific River out back that can be seen and heard, from your window which is calmingp. You can even swim in it. Great ventilation. On the downside, we had sink faucet problems which were repaired after a few days.. We were told we would be refunded for those. .There is sn unswept rocky front stairway and a building exterior badly in need of some carpentry repair and a fresh coat of red paint. They have, on some evenings, guitar entertainment but it's low and nice background music in the room. They stop at 9:00 pm to not keep Lodgers up. It can be a super comfortable stay if they just fix some of the glitches. The need stairway Masonry to create a smooth sidewalk to the back River. The place has a LOT of promise. The dogs need a backyard. The Management was warm and friendly. Decent people . #####

This is an old rustic building that is also a Brewery/Restaurant/Music Venue. Very cool. Walk into town in a minute. If you are looking for a unique stay, this is it! If you are looking for Shiny new, bell hop, room service, pool, spa etc, this is NOT the place for you.

The Valley Craft Ales is a great location. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The location is convenient, right in the town of Wilmington. It is walkable to a number of restaurants and bars. Mt. Snow is 15 minutes up the road and the Moo-ver is a great way to get there. VCA also has great beer and pizza right down stairs along with live music occasionally.

The rooms are above the bar area so it can be loud if there is a band. We knew that and were prepared. Ear plugs are provided in the room in case you need them. The room was clean and met our needs. Very reasonable price. We had a nice stay.

Valley Craft Ales was an awesome place full of character. It was a simple room but had all we needed for an overnight stay. We loved the river view and the bed was comfortable. We had a great time interacting with the bartenders in the bar and enjoyed an excellent pizza on the deck. Check in was easy.

Very cool place! Sweet building, beautiful view. Ended up having a fun experience, but there were a few hitches in the road that I think the property could improve on: 1- the security of the doors are severely lacking, which I take extremely seriously as a solo female traveler. The pin pad doesn’t auto-lock like most hotel doors do. And I’m pretty sure most pin pads have that feature, so I would definitely suggest seeing if this one does and if you just have to program it. Also there is no back up protection for the door inside of the room- most hotels have a chain or a lock that can only be accessed from the inside. So, as far as I know, anyone with the code to the door can get into my room without my consent: housekeeping, staff, possibly even someone who has stayed here before. I’m guessing the codes aren’t changed in between customers. 2- hotel guests should be able to attend the shows for free given that it’s really an inconvenience for them to have their walls shaking from the sound of it. 3-Couldn’t hear the band name so tried to look on the website for it but apparently the web manager is too good at their job and at the end of the show it didn’t show the name. Maybe wait a couple days to remove the bands name from the website
