The Esquire Hotel Downtown Gastonia, an Ascend Collection Hotel

Cool hotel! Nice history Small town so everything closes early. Restaurant closed on Sunday. But had dinner on Monday and the food and service was excellent!

The breakfast service was scheduled for 7 and was quite late on my second day there.

A great hotel property that was a bank and has been totally refurbished. It has rooftop and main floor dining and drink options. Very nice rooms and beds, great sheets and towels, and the staff was very responsive when I had a question. I definitely would stay at the Esquire again!

Liked the old. Enjoyed the view from the roof. Thankful for free parking and breakfast.

This is a historic property in the center of Gastonia. Beautiful view from the rooftop was suggested when we checked in. It was a fun place to stay.

Front dest staff were friendly and helpful. They were all great faces of the business. Our room was tiny but adequate. Floor was very sticky. Bed was comfortable and thanks to ear plugs we slept well. The AC fan squeaked constantly sounding like a watch alarm. If our stay was more than one night we would have had to switch rooms. The front desk girl suggested we check out the rooftop Lounge area. It was very nice since the temperatures were cool with little breeze and we could see a view of the whole city from there. We very much enjoyed that. Overall the room was cozy and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay.

Nice clean rooms, no carpet which is a good thing. Nice restaurant at dinner The only negative note is the breakfast, definitely improvement is needed at morning breakfast. Thank you

Other than it being clean and people being nice there was a few problems with the way it is being run. Wanted to get ice in my bucket and couldn’t find any ice on floor. Called front desk and they said I would have to bring bucket down to them and when I did they said they had to go to basement to get ice. Breakfast was not really a breakfast. Had little boxes of cereal and if you wanted coffee you had to go upstairs and get it from the front desk. But very clean place and people really nice

Such a gem. Very nice and intimate, offer a restaurant, late check out, small complimentary breakfast, rooftop, free parking. I would stay there every time I come to North Carolina

Great staff and very good restaurant on property.

Room was very dated including a super small BR with no hand rails in shower. Their decision to not include daily housekeeping services was okay but they should have at least stopped by to replenish coffee supplies. The bed and bed linens were great but towels only okay.

Clean room

I love this hotel! This was my second stay here and let me tell you i have no complaints whatsoever! It is a very clean place and te staff was awesome! The restaurant is very nice and equipped with a nice bar, even tough i dont drink. Parking was easy and close to the building. It was very quiet and cozy for the most part. I would definitely stay here next time im in town!

Stayed with my son. Originally had a queen room. Found some nasal discharge on the bed. The AC made a horrible continuous noise. We stayed in this room until my son saw a bug jumping on his phone and then we’ve got moved to another queen room. That room the AC was even louder. Started on the sixth floor went to the fourth floor and then they upgraded us to a king room on the third floor. In the original room there was tons of noise from music. We thought it was someone below us. It turns out when we moved to the third floor that there is a club next-door or across the street and that music played till 2:15 in the morning. Tons of motorcycles revving their engine Lots of loud bass coming from someone’s car that rattled the windows on the third floor. The first queen bedroom had no decorative pillows and the bed was so worn it needs to be thrown out. The shower curtain in the queen room touches you even for someone 120 lbs. so a very small space. And there are no AC vents in the bathroom so it stayed hot. In the king room it was much nicer. However we were lower down to the parking lot and the music kept me up until about 3:30 in the morning alongside with the motorcycles and this was a Sunday night, so I’m guessing it’s not a dry town. The water does not get super hot in the queen room, but in the king room it was too hot. Overall, I would never stay here again. I like boutique hotels, and the building was very nice. It’s an old bank, but you stay at a hotel to sleep!!!!!!

Rooms are small and consequently there was no room for a chair. The bed was very comfortable though. Hotel was very clean. Staff was very cordial and helpful. We would stay there again. Historical building. Much of the key esthetics have been preserved. English paneling in the elevator. Very tastefully decorated

The room was tiny and cramped. The new decor felt old to me. And the vent in room 207 squeals and makes other crazy sounds when you turn up the heat. Also if you are looking for the thermostat it's behind the pocket door for the bathroom!!! Weird place. We couldn't locate it at first had to call front desk and ask. It is overpriced and underwhelming to say the least.

I wanted to love this boutique hotel. We arrived after dark and found street parking right outside the front door. The hotel is a converted bank which is cool. The lobby restaurant smelled amazing when we walked in and was pretty full! The queen bed was pretty much all that fit in the room. We couldn’t find the thermostat because it was placed behind the sliding bathroom door so we had to call the front desk (which we did from our phone because the room phone said that # had been disconnected)! The shower was extremely small. We wanted to love the room but it was too small for me and my 10 year old son to move around without having to get out of each others way. Not sure if all the rooms are this small or not but 201 is!

The property overall was fine. The only reason for 4/5 stars was the room was very small. The shower is very small as well. You have no room to move at all.

Front desk was friendly and accommodating; small but cute rooms. If you need a desk in your room to work, remember to ask upfront.

I really enjoyed my stay here. My only complaint is the heater is VERY LOUD but over time you kind of get used to it.

Hotel is in a former bank in a very convenient location. Easy, short walk to a couple of restaurants. The rooftop gives nice views of your surroundings. My only issue is the room size. As soon you open the door you’re at the foot of your bed. Very, very small, but clean, rooms.

Definitely not as nice as advertised. The building was as wide as two cars put together. The elevator was down so we had to walk the stairs which go up for days it seemed. As well as back down. The rooms were so small it fit a bed and two side tables with minimal room to walk around. Very dated older smell and the air unit was so loud I couldn’t sleep.

The room I was given was extremely small. There was barely room for a queen bed with a one-foot square shelf mounted to the wall on one side of the bed. There was no table or desk, no place to unpack a suitcase, no chair, no closet, and the phone was mounted on the wall at the foot of the bed.

I have stayed here in the past. This will be the last time here. Hotel was empty and we mistakenly booked for following day. Common error and have done before with other hotels. Instead of correcting the date or adding a fee for the adjustment or refunding and rebooking for me- no they tell me my money is gone 100%. I ended up being double charged grand total of 340$ for a single night and absolutely not worth that. I don't like businesses that sacrifice service for a chance to double profits off their patrons. Short sighted and definitely not a customer first business model.

The gal that checked us in was wonderful. Friendly, shared what was going on in the area for dining and entertainment and was just simply a very kind person.

Second stay. This one was for four nights. Bathroom sink drain got stuck. No room cleaning at all for four days, which seems a little odd. If the owners would make a little effort in enhancing the guest experience, this place would get 5 stars from me. Front desk staff needs some customer service 101 training.

All was good other than charging $50 for an early check in to a room that was already ready.

Try to get on a floor other than 2 if you are staying over the weekend—the noise from the street and surrounding bars/outside venues lasts until 2am. Other than that, the hotel room is quaint and beautiful. Worked for me!

There was music playing right outside our window so loud, it shook the building till 3AM. The traffic was just as loud. This was the worst night I have ever had in my life.

Great place in downtown Gastonia! Only 15 min from Charlotte Douglas airport.

Summer concert could be seen from window. Lots of music choices within walking distance!

The hotel was charming. The downtown area lacked the tourist attractions that would have made for a better experience. Not many people in the area and not many businesses to attract visitors.

The hotel is beautiful and service excellent but there was an outdoor concert a block away and street noise well into the night that made sleeping impossible.

Queen bed rooms are extremely small.The town area is very lous That said the room themselves are otherwise nice and I think it's one of the better hotels in the area.

The room was great the restaurant was great. Unfortunately I didn't get much sleep because the 2 bars right next door and across the street kept the party going till 3am-ish and was very loud. I recommend staying on weekdays but weekends only if you don't mind some restless nights.

The restaurant and bar is amazing. Fantastic food and the drink selection great. The staff so sweet. The rooms were great. Across the street the wandering cup was fantastic. Lavendar Latte.. the best!

Great staff and very good restaurant on property.

First the great: Hayley(sp?) at the hotel bar, in the hotel restaurant, “Barristers”. The bar features some eclectic drinks and your mixologist extraordinaire will manifest with flair; she’s a super competent delight. The room and the whole place was clean. Really clean. The restaurant opens at 9:00 a.m. it should sooner. There was a horrible noise in our room and likely others - it sounded like a failing bearing in an air handler. It would/will drive some people insane. A loud screech is the best description. Some guest left takeout trash just out side their room. It was there when we arrived and still there five hours later - and I know for sure that some staff members saw it and ignored it. So a really mixed review.
