Holiday Inn Express & Suites Downtown Ottawa East by IHG

The underground parking was incredibly difficult to navigate. Were it not for a nice man who happened to be getting into his car, we might not have made it out unscathed. The pool didn't seem like it had been cleaned in a very long time.

The beds are comfortable, the rooms are big and clean, the breakfast is delicious. The gym and pool were nice. The location is great and the staff are friendly and professional

Interior parking is a mess. So tight for a suv a never seen it before and I live in a big city and park inside my building all year long

This is a conflicting review. The hotel itself is quite nice, and it’s very close to the ByWard Market; however, there is a safe supply/sketchy area literally across the street. Pros: - pretty clean, felt comfortable enough to walk around room in socks - very nice room, very comfortable bed, loved the pillows - very nice breakfast, one hot item rotated (sausage patty, turkey patty, scrambled egg), always had omelettes and vegetarian beans. Oatmeal, basic bakery items, pancakes, cereal, cinnamon buns, fruit. - parking garage was decent. Tight squeeze, don’t recommend trucks. - security posted throughout the day. Key needed to get to garage, garage elevator, and into hotel after 10:30pm. Surprisingly, no key needed in elevator so lacking security during the day. Cons: - no parking day 1, couldn’t pay in advance for day 2-3 until the next day so parked at garage in ByWard and brought the car to the hotel around 11-12pm - parking was $18/night - coffee maker didn’t work, they brought us a different one on day 2 - no fan in the bathroom, got humid fast - TV channels felt a bit limited - sketchy area right across the street - a bit confusing to get to, due to one-way roads If you know to avoid, sketchy area isn’t as bad. At intersection, cross straight and walk down St. Patrick until you get to Dalhousie.

The hotel was great. The gym and pool were very user friendly- they even have a lift to help people get into the pool if needed. We had a person in our party who needed the wheelchair parking and the staff were wonderful.

The elevators can be slow. Otherwise great

Pool is disgusting, the water was green and smelt like it was pumped with chlorine. Water was definitely not balanced. Even my 6 year old was afraid of going into the water because it was too green. We booked this hotel because of the amenities but didn’t even get to use the pool because of how gross it was. The location of the hotel was terrible, there’s a halfway house literally across the street with homeless/drug addicts laying on the street all high. We had to avoid walking on that street whenever we went to byward market or the core of downtown. Hotel room was okay, nothing special. We usually stay at holiday inn but this time we were so disappointed, we won’t be back.

The ad stated that there was "parking available". It did not state that there was no parking onsite and the customer had to find their own parking at their own cost outside the cost of the room. And the only having 2 elevators for 10 floors made trying to go to your room very time consuming. We at one point climbed 12 flights of stairs to return to the room

Everything about the hotel is great, clean, nice, good location to downtown, free breakfast. It is a shame the area around it is so sketchy. They do have security there 24/7 though.

Very high traffic hotel. Stained carpets and furniture, room smelled very strongly of dog and had a dirty bathroom. Building looks nice online but in person is in direct vicinity of a soup kitchen of some kind with lots of unhoused folks and drug activity. We love Holiday Inn Express but would not stay at this location again.

Other than Marie in the breakfast room, the staff were not welcoming or friendly. Our room was clean and well appointed, but some of the common areas were dirty and needed more attention (bathroom door handles, etc.). The breakfast needs more options for more healthy options such as natural (plain) yogurt and multigrain bread. CheeseSomese

What stood out for me was the cleanliness. Impeccably clean room, clean elevators, clean hallways, clean bathroom and sheets. Staff and management clearly make that a priority and it shows.

Very clean. Security was good. Body wash dispenser in shower broke but maintenance quickly replaced the container and fixed both the clogged toilet and tightened the toilet seat.

Super clean, modern and spacious !

This hotel is okay. Okay for a day or two but I really wouldn't stay here longer. The hotel felt really sketchy as the lighting in the hallways was terrible, at 10am it would feel like its the middle of the night. I didn't even feel safe getting out of my room to get ice which was right next to my room. Moreover, the ice machine wasn't even working so I had to go to a different floor which was worse. The hotel staff were nice except for the one man at reception at night who was incredibly rude and clearly didn't care about anything. We asked for toilet paper and he told us to come down and get it (again, leaving my room at night did not feel safe to me is I was definitely not happy about that). Additionally, when I am paying the rate I am paying per night, that includes housekeeping. He told us housekeeping is not available at that time (mind you it was 9 pm). We did go down to reception for toilet paper, which was also weird, carrying toilet paper across the lobby. However, later when I complained about towels, suddenly there was housekeeping available to bring towels to my room? Seems like they are cutting costs and so I would stay at another hotel in the area as there are many and around the same rate. Another thing to note, I do not trust the cleanliness of this hotel, sheets smelled weird and pool had murky water.

Contres : - Situé à côté d'un refuge (mission chrétienne) pour personnes démunies et/ou itinérantes. La vue de notre chambre donnait directement dessus, c'était parfois malaisant. - Stationnement disponible, mais payant (20$/nuit) et pas de place assignée. Je trouve ça très cher et décevant. - Pas assez de pression dans la pomme de douche. - Pas de système de file d'attente pour le déjeuner, tout le monde passe où il veut sans demander si on attendait déjà pour se servir. - Salle à manger trop petite et très bruyante.

Juste un point négatif p, la piscine n’était pas propre, l’eau brouillée et le contour sale, sinon c’est un hôtel que je recommande.

Breakfast was great, the room was spacious, however the parking garage was difficult to navigate due to the narrowness of the laneways to get from P3 to P2 and P2 to P1. The sofa bed in our room had a very uncomfortable mattress as well, it was super thin so you could feel the metal frame through it.

The room was quite decent. Beyond expectations. Well lit corridors. Nice receptionists Fancy underground parking. Temperature regulation wasn’t a problem but the fridge wasn’t cooling properly.

I liked the breakfast however, for the amount we paid for the stay, I think the quality in food could be a bit better. Powdered eggs, artificial bacon, a pancakes machine in a bag? Are all cheap areas that can be improved. I wouldn’t mind paying 12-20 dollars going to a breakfast spot that would at least serve me real eggs and portionable pancakes. Secondly, the beds were terrible. The beds were not firm at all and the pillows were flat. I left this hotel with a lot of back pain and did not get a full nights rest on any of the days I was there. I was so glad to go home and sleep in my bed. The hotel is not in the best area as there are crack heads and needles everywhere. I would definitely think twice before booking here as it is not the best for walking. The hotel itself is nice. Also, please tell some of the cleaning staff (the males in particular) to please mange their bodily hygiene. It is not pleasant to walk by especially when they are cleaning your room.

Clean rooms, very quiet environment

The hotel was clean and easy to check in and out and parking was convenient. The breakfast was fantastic and the room was clean but very noisy. You could hear the traffic from the 7th floor.

The air conditioning in the room worked intermittently and often made loud noises. The front-desk staff at check-in did not seem very welcoming, though the service at check-out was good.

The rooms are clean and modern. Unfortunately the rooftop patio was closed.

I had a good stay in that hotel. I have to congratulate YOSH, one the staff. I could not find a good parking spot. When I contacted him for that, he removed his car from the parking to let me park my car. I cannot explain how I felt that night for his action. I thank you YOSH. Keep up the good work. The world needs people like you.

They have an amazing breakfast and the crew os excellent service especially Mabel.

The staff is super dedicated! I needed help in the middle of the night and the person at the front desk took the time to find me a solution so that was great also they referred me to a great restaurant nearby and overall you see that they work hard to get the best service.

Great staff, easy and quick check in, great rooms

Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff who worked around us at breakfast worked very hard to replenish food and keep tables clean. My disappointment with this hotel is staff at front desk rarely looked up to greet people as we passed by. They seemed quite uninterested in guests. Security Guards were always scrolling on cell phones. Very poor service at entrance to this hotel.

Parking is a major issue at this hotel, and we were asked to park far away from the building. When we expressed our discomfort, the receptionist told us that if we weren't okay with it, we could find another hotel — which is ridiculous.

The hotel is in an unfavorable neighborhood. Many street people across the street. Not a good place to walk at night. Not an area for families and a good 15 minutes to the tourist areas. Good place for just an overnight stay not for longer stays.

The facility itself was very nice. Parking at the building was secure but tight going up the ramps to leave the parking levels below the building. The hotel is located on the edge of the ByWard Market area, an easy walk to the market, Parliament Hill, and many other tourist highlights. However, right across the road are homeless shelters and encampments. Panhandlers are on every corner, many of them aggressive towards passersby’s. Sadly the neighborhood appears to be in a rundown condition with

Pool warm with towels, room large and clean. Fridge, microwave, closet, TV, free WiiFii. Paid Parking in secure garage. Short walk to the happening ByWard Market District with great restaurants. We had tasty PHO. Walking distance to Parliament Hill.

Location is near an area of homeless people. The property and the rooms were near new condition, or newly renovated. About 1 km from Byward Market & Parliament Hill areas. Overall, good value for the money; complimentary breakfast was nice.

Everything about the hotel and our stay was wonderful!! The parking garage is a bit tight if you drive a larger vehicle. Driving an F150, we needed a spotter to get around some of the corners. The homeless shelter nearby is a bit of an eye sore, but we never felt unsafe walking around the hotel.

The hotel was not prepared for the long weekend. No parking available. The front desk guy was very agressive when we got the instructions to find a parking. There was not enough food for the breakfast. All the people were waiting food. All the plates were empty. Never saw that before. Does not look safe around the building. I will never return to this hotel

Breakfast was completely disappointing for several reasons, especially when compared to the Holiday Inn in Toronto where I stayed a few days earlier. In Toronto, they offered more variety and basic items like bacon and yogurt, and they would prepare omelets on the spot, just the way you wanted. The dishes and cutlery were real—not disposable like in Ottawa. The feeling of eating with disposable utensils and cold eggs is thoroughly unpleasant. It probably saves them money, but it definitely lowers their standard. ...And I found an insect in the bathroom

Breakfast had limited options, and I would recommend if it's included take it, otherwise do not pay extra for breakfast.

The lady working during breakfast was wonderful. Very friendly. She always made our day. The only complaint we have is that there wasn't an anti slip mat in the bathtub. It was very slippery which is a safety hazard, especially for older folks.

Clean, great service and very tasty breakfast

We were very comfortable in our room. Large queen bed with fluffy pillows. Clean large bathroom. Great air conditioning in the room. One suggestion we have is to put pads underneath the legs of the chairs in the dining area (cheap at Dollarama) as the chairs squeal annoyingly every time your guests get into the table or leave the table. Also, you might consider a greater variety of items at breakfast. There are literally no vegetables or fruits other than apple and banana.

I’ll start by saying that I enjoyed my stay and would probably stay there again. On the positive side, the breakfast staff was wonderful and always remembered I was lactose intolerant and brought me almond milk the minute they saw me. The hotel was clean and is located near the ByWard Market. Since I enjoy walking, I was able to walk to all the spots I wanted to see in the city. The negative points are possibly due to the time I was there and not in general regarding the hotel So the things I did not like are the following… I was ion the third floor so I could hear the dryers late at night working while I was in bed. I could also hear the dumbbells being dropped to the floor at the gym below me. Outside I was approached by street people who were asking for money and seemed to be on drugs (this is Not the hotel’s fault). Finally, one person at reception was slightly curt with me however everyone else at reception was wonderful and attentive.
