This hotel is a true gem! From the moment you walk in you feel like you are in the nicest of boutique hotels. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooftop patio, hot tub and sauna were perfect after a day of hiking! There is even a yoga student complete with equipment to enjoy. It is located in the adorable town of Ranier next to a few local restaurants, the marina and a delicious ice cream shop. We rented bikes from the hotel and bikes into International Falls on the paved bike trail for brunch one day. It is also conveniently located near Voyageurs National Park. Although we never ate at it, the on-site restaurant smelled amazing!! I can’t recommend this hotel enough!

Very unique hotel. The active train depot across the street did up the level of noise, but in a good way since it brought back sounds of my childhood. The room had a tub with a curtain instead of a shower. Regular showers were available down the hall. No microwave in the room, but there was a common use microwave in the common area which then also had coffee in the morning. It was nice not having the microwave in the room so we didn't have to suffer the smell of heated food well past consumption. The food in the restaurant is delicious and the drinks were wonderful especially as they were made of the products of the onsite distillery. There is also a yoga studio with free weights and cork mats provided. The roof top had chairs and a wonderful view of the lake one block away.

The parking especially for people trailering a boat is almost non-existent. The walk in shower is not in your room it is in the public restroom on each floor. Those 2 things are a negative for this hotel.

This was a wonderful boutique hotel experience for me and my husband. We enjoyed dinner and cocktails in the hotel dining room and loved ending our evenings in the room top hot tub. We used the yoga studio space as well. Our room was very comfortable and unique. We did have a light breakfast one morning. The ear plugs and sound machine made the train noise bearable but is a consideration for guests. We were able ti visit all the local attractions during the day and the "street life" with live music and festival atmosphere by night. Highly recommend for an adult only stay. We will be back!

The room was lovely. The bathroom was spacious and modern. Our only complaint was the noise. The floors were poured concrete without carpet. Every footstep in the hall and the room above us were heard. The laundry room was next door and we could hear the activity in that room as well (washers, dryers, door closing, footsteps. Hallway runners and insulation in the metal ceiling would have made a huge difference.

The Cantilever looks nice and modern, but unfortunately it has more style than usability. The shower is a freestanding tub with zero shelf space, since the curtain goes around it 360 degrees, and anybody with short legs or the slightest mobility issue would not be able to get in it out of it. There's no full-length mirror, and there's no place to plug a phone or anything on the table next to the bed. The walls between rooms are paper thin; I wish I knew much less about the terrible people in the room next door, but some things can't be unheard. Also the hotel is cut off every time a train goes by, so leave extra time in your schedule.

Modern, clean, comfortable, great bar and restaurant. Front desk personnel could have been friendlier, but restaurant servers were great. Trains are very close to the hotel, so they do impact the stay; that said, I don't mind trains and I was very tired anyway. Cute area and great location.

This is a very well done hotel. Great architecture. The rooms are very thoughtfully decorated. It has a higher end feel, especially for way up by the border. There are very busy train tracks behind the hotel, so try not to get a room back there. Thankfully the conductors don’t blow the horn at the intersection.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at- the room was beyond expectations. Very cool new decor, rustic/industrial. Loved the bed, bathroom- the ambiance throughout entire hotel so nice, and bar area with fireplaces. Service could have been a bit more friendly at bar. Served a specialty drink in a regular mug, not impressed. Burger was awesome. Front desk staff super nice. Wish I hadn’t been tired, the rooftop hot tub and sauna looked awesome.

Excellent boutique hotel with many special decor features. I loved the room and my dinner in the bar was excellent! The only downside was trains constantly going through behind the inn. I used the provided earplugs and they helped somewhat.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! If you are visiting Voyageurs National Park this is THE place to stay. It is a hidden unexpected gem in the tiny town of Ranier right down the road from International Falls. The rooms are incredible, the amenities are amazing (rooftop sauna and hot tub with a shower), restaurant is awesome as is the distillery with incredible cocktails. Huge shoutout to the amazing staff - in particular Madison and Aubrey! Love love love this place!!

It was great but it don’t make sense that I had to pay again just so they can possibly pay for if you mess up there room but when the tv don’t work and u almost get locked out of your room because it don’t go thru even tho I already paid thru somewhere else. Maybe next time don’t treat your clients like thieves don’t nobody want no 35$ soaps nor does any wnna take ur glasses or the “tv off the wall” as the guy up front said I will never be staying here again hopefully you make it easier for younger people to be at ease!

The hotel and the staff were terrific. The building is clean and tastefully decorated and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. However, one evening the entire restaurant and bar were booked for an event and guests at the hotel were not notified in advance. While there are options in nearby International Falls, it seems notification would have been appropriate. Lastly, the hotel sits next to a rail line that is the busiest port of entry in the US. There are more than 20 trains every day now that pass the hotel both day and night; some of them are two miles long. A 2015 report noted the crossing was blocked on average 8 of 24 hours. I timed one that took 14 minutes to clear the road out of town. While ear plugs and white noise allowed for uninterrupted sleep (the trains cannot blow their horns), be aware that you may have unanticipated delays. With all of that in mind, I still like this hotel and distillery and will stay again the next time I visit.

Modern, clean, comfortable, great bar and restaurant. Front desk personnel could have been friendlier, but restaurant servers were great. Trains are very close to the hotel, so they do impact the stay; that said, I don't mind trains and I was very tired anyway. Cute area and great location.

Beautiful little boutique hotel, but beware the trains! Very busy train track running right outside. Made sleep difficult (although they provide earplugs), and had to time my departures so as not to wait 20 minutes for the train to go by (you can only get out of the town over the tracks).

The hotel and the community it is located in was absolutely wonderful! The hotel is modern and newer. The rooftop patio overlooking the lake and bungalows below was awesome! The restaurant in the lobby had amazing food and service! Best place to stay while visiting Voyageurs National Park!

This hotel is excellent, but there is ONE significant factor to be prepared for. I discuss it at the end of this review. Cantilever is a small boutique hotel with a restaurant/distillery on site. Brand new with beautiful appointments, very comfortable beds, friendly staff and a fantastic location in a walkable neighborhood. Easy access to the Rainy Lake Visitor's Center at Voyageurs, which was the purpose of our visit. The on-site restaurant is outstanding. We ate there all three evenings and the food and cocktails were fantastic. Can't recommend it enough. The one thing guests should be aware of is that the hotel is directly next to a busy freight train crossing, and all the noise that comes with it. The rooms aren't terribly soundproof, so not only the train noise but your neighbors' conversations might make themselves a presence. The hotel is aware, at least of the train noise, and provided foam earplugs. I used them and slept peacefully. But if you are particularly sensitive to noise, take it into consideration.

Great hotel. It is close to the train tracks. But I didn't have any issues with it. Rooms are super comfortable. Hotel has a cool design. It's about a 10 min drive from international falls. Which has plenty of food & a few shops. Bed was soft. Hot water was great. And overall if we're ever in the area again, I would book here. Top floor with the outside hot tub has a view of the lake.

This was a wonderful boutique hotel experience for me and my husband. We enjoyed dinner and cocktails in the hotel dining room and loved ending our evenings in the room top hot tub. We used the yoga studio space as well. Our room was very comfortable and unique. We did have a light breakfast one morning. The ear plugs and sound machine made the train noise bearable but is a consideration for guests. We were able ti visit all the local attractions during the day and the "street life" with live music and festival atmosphere by night. Highly recommend for an adult only stay. We will be back!

I liked the decor of the whole place. I loved the bath and shower products! They smelled devine! I wished there would have been a full length mirror in the room. We ate breakfast there and it tool about 40 minutes to get our food. We were the only ones getting breakfast.

This is a wonderful hotel that is designed to look like a renovated warehouse. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We ate both nights in the restaurant and very much enjoyed our meals. They dont serve beer or wine as they are a distillery so we had fun stepping out of our usual and trying some new drinks. It is a small community so we saw all we had scheduled to see but we would go back again just to enjoy the hotel itself. There is a railroad behind the hotel but we didn't hear it at night so it wasn't a concern to us.

Very nicely appointed room and bath. Definitely boutique feel. Since it’s also a distillery they didn’t serve wine or beer so we ate elsewhere even though we would have preferred to stay. Breakfast is not included which makes the cost a bit high for the area. I regret not having time to soak in the large tub!

The hotel is beautiful and extremely comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant and bar was very nice with excellent food. We made use of the laundry room, a great convenience. We hope to return someday.

Unique and fun hotel with an on site distillery. Staff was extremely helpful. I was especially impressed by the night manager Ryan. He went out of his way to make our stay easy plus he seemed to be helping out every where when he was not occupied at the front desk (clearing tables in the distillery restaurant, setting up the coffee & muffin bar in the morning, etc.). This is the kind of attitude that is only found at top notch businesses.

Positives: Beautiful small hotel with a great restaurant/bar in first floor and one block from the water...well maintained and big rooms. Loved it ! Restaurant staff was great and food was great. Negatives: It is in a very odd area...old buildings around...just odd... It is on the railroad tracks but with the great windows and their noise machine I never heard them. You need to work on customer service with the staff...at check in the young girl had an i don't care attitude. When I then asked about where we can walk in the area, an older girl told me to download the QR code on the window...it gave me nothing...she gave me nothing...
