The Evenlode Rooms at Firehouse Oxford

This was a good place to stay - close to Oxford, the Cotswold and Blenhiem Palace. A lot of parking and a good pub and restaurant. Only negative is that it is on A40 so if your room faces the road it could be a bit noisy in the mornings.

Lovely place. Sunny outside areas. Great food. Welcoming friendly staff. Clean, comfortable room.

We had a mid week stay, so the venue was quiet, does host weddings, and could be noisier at the weekends, Note - Does not currently do breakfast at all. I wasnt sure either way when booking, but there is an awesome venue 300 yards away which was handy

Room was nice but the shower room did have a smell of musty water/blocked drains which may explain the poor drain away of the shower. Sash windows could be opened but did not remain open as no weights or wedge to prop. Staff in the evening were attentive and pleasant. We ate there on the first night and was not happy to see there is a service charge of 10% automatically added to the bill. Of course you can refuse to pay it, but knowing some people would find that awkward, I do not think adding it in the first place is the way to go. Tipping should be at the discretion of the individual not the hotel!! Breakfast would have been nice, had it been available. A good convenient location and excellent housekeeping, although I don't need my towels and soap changing each day!!

The Evenlode is a lovely pub with rooms. I stayed for 2 nights while visiting a friend in Oxford and found the room to be clean and decor a high standard. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I ate once at the restaurant and it was good food with good range of choice. I was offered help with best route to my destinations and on my return late Friday evening I was greeted to check all was ok. Highly recommend and hope to stay again some time Thank you for such a lovely stay

We loved this hotel/restaurant/pub!! It was wonderful!! Our room wasn’t huge, but it was perfect for us! The food and drinks were delicious! Prices were very fair, as well! Loved the outdoor patio! Definitely recommend!!

The place looked great but was rushed to check in before 10pm as staff were leaving for the evening. Bar and restaurant closed.

Pros- Lovely sized & decorated room with Georgian windows Lovely staff who provided thorough check in info & sorted our noise complaint (re cons below) Great sized TV with Netflix, iPlayer, normal channels etc... Comfy bed Clean sheets & towels Bottle of tap water, tea bags, milk, 2 rice crispy bars Lovely shower wash & hand soap in bathroom Cons- Toilet had been used and not flushed when we arrived Music from downstairs (or somewhere in pub) started at around 8am (on a Sunday, when pub was closed at this time until midday) waking us up. I called the pub, told the staff member & they turned it off within the next 10 mins.) Bathroom radiator, so hot was genuinely like a sauna & both burnt ourselves on it. (Tried everything to turn it off or down, including turning switch off, nothing worked. Shower head seriously grim.. green.. really had to mind over matter the process of showering & made an effort not to get water on face/in mouth. Kettle and espresso machine dirty.

Several things to report on negatively unfortunately. The room was very hot so needed the window open all night however, it faced the A40 which is a very busy road. The toilet had "marks" in it - it hadn't been cleaned properly. The pillow cases had stains on them. There was no iron in the room and no one to contact to ask for one. Amazingly, the venue wasn't able to offer breakfast - this is astonishing considering that it is a pub. This was not advertised when I booked - if I had known, I would have booked somewhere else. In the pub downstairs, I wanted to have a drink however, there were empty glasses and rubbish everywhere on every empty table. There was no effort by the staff - I had to ask about breakfast and there was no mention about food in the evening and finally, the next morning, there were no staff anywhere to be found to check out. I had to just leave the room key on the bar and unlock the door to the pub to let myself out.

Property was conveniently located for our needs. Continuous flow of traffic made it difficult to sleep as it was just off the main road. Bed was comfortable and clean. However, carpets were in need of cleaning both in the room and public areas. Also the dining chairs were covered in grease stains. Disappointed that no breakfast was available whatsoever and did not know that beforehand. Would not have booked here had we known that. Evening meal was very tasty though.

Room - good temperature but draught from windows - ok when curtains closed. Windows need a good scrub /repainting round frames. Spiders and webs in corners of windows (living in hole in frame where the cord for the sash windows is). Some crumbs/dust on bathroom floor. Nespresso machine dirty (dusty in water reservoir) and dirty water came out when i ran the machine with no pod in). No instructions for machine in room. Was advertised as sound proof room but could hear some noise from pub (not loud) and some sort of machine/generator/road noise (for long periods of time). Beds - (we had twin) were very comfy but would prefer they had mattress cover/protector on. Location - on main road and tricky getting into/out of hotel during busy times. Would have been useful to have been told about the back entrance which takes you through village which is very pretty. Handy for Oxford - Peartree park & ride (£5 for parking and bus for 2 people) about 10 mins in car . All in all, had a decent sleep and it was handy for visiting Oxford, Burford, Woodstock and Blenheim.

A high £161 overnight with no breakfast. And no breakfast available either. Smallest double beds and poor linen. Shame as the pub and style is great. But value very low. . Won’t be going again

The bed was comfortable. No fridge and the table nearly collapsed when I went to lean on it to write a card. The room was very hot and we could not open the window due to the noise from the road.

Everything was great from arrival to departure Theresa the housekeeper went the extra mile to get me a couple more f extra Nespresso pods which was greatly appreciated Dinner was great All staff were very helpful and pleasant Highly recommended

Had a nice stay at The Evenlode. Enjoyed the food. The room had everything we needed. Power sockets in good places, always important. Check in was easy, as was check out. Staff were friendly. A little concerned that the shower seemed to have two bottle of hand wash rather than shampoo and body wash. Overall a good stay.

Booked one night for my birthday. I saw the clip board with this information on. No one wished me a happy birthday. No mention of it, staff said “oh we were wondering where you were” as a greeting ……we were 20 minutes early! Very slow to serve. Had to ask for bill three times. Burger has very poor. Very dry and over cooked. Very slow to offer drink. Partner Has to ask three times for a beer. A very sad experience for a birthday treat. Disappointed.

Comfy beds. Great bathroom and friendly staff. The kitchen was already closed when we arrived. They helped us order pizza and gave us plates and stuff to eat in the bar. Super friendly. Would recommend

Whilst expected a pub hotel to be noisy up until 11pm on this stay people were talking loudly until 00:30. No staff on site after closing so no recourse.

The location was ideal for what we had come to the area for, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the portions of food for both lunch and dinner were far too much for the average person. On the down side, no breakfast. A chewy bar is not my ideal way to start the day and I would have much preferred a feather filled pillow

Evenlode Hotel looks very inviting from the outside and to be fair the bar was OK. The staff were pleasant. The menu is limited. The rooms are fine with all the things you would expect such as tea and coffee making facilities but the hot water was tepid, so didny have shower. The worst part was the breakfast. In most hotels there is cereals f,ruit, fruit juice, toast and coffee facilties together with marmalades, jams etc. None of this was present. If you offer breakfast it should include all this as a basic.

Excellent!! Warm welcome followed by delightful service at dinner. Delicious mushrooms and pie - and plenty of it. The room is furnished in a modern style with everything I needed, including a comfortable bed. All this followed by my favourite breakfast - eggs Benedict cooked to perfection.

Nice clean room.the reason for the average score is there is no breakfast and the food on a sunday stops at 6pm.we arrived just after six with no food available anywere near the property.Fair enough if they do this every sunday but tell the customers on the website before they book. on the monday evening food was available and was very nice. all in all a nice pub and hotel .

Restaurant for our evening meal was fantastic- as were the staff who were welcoming friendly and helpful.
