The rooftop bar is excellent and a nice way to spend the night

Construction around the building. Pool closed use Hard Rock > a mile away. The rooms are fine other than construction noise. Don’t eat there, buy based on price in a construction zone. Wouldn’t be my first choice at this time. Walkable to good restaurants though.

Hotel and location are nice but lack of parking is a problem. The hotel offered $65 per day valet is the only option.

Great service! Comfortable rooms! Only downfall is if you want a sunny pool, this one is on the 4th floor and is limited to sun. The rooftop is a lovely space!

The hot tub and rooftop lounge were advertised but unavailable which was disappointing since that is why we chose this place. When inquiring about this we were offered some free drinks which was nice.

At $500 per night, this hotel was overpriced for what was delivered. It was clean, quiet and in a good location, but $65/night for valet parking and nearly $100 for breakfast for two in the lobby restaurant was ridiculous. We ate breakfast in the lobby restaurant the first morning strictly out of convenience, but there are many other cheaper and better options close by. Given so many other options in the area, I probably would not stay here again.

The gym you get access to for this hotel is the best gym in SD. The staff at Carte was great as well.

The property was fine but the water coming out of the bathroom faucets smelt like sulfur/ rotten eggs!! The shower was fine thought, no sulfur smell

Nice clean hotel. Our shower leaked all over the floor. We reported it daily. Had 3 different maintenance workers come. Was never fixed. Wasn’t a huge deal but an inconvenience for sure. Was a bit suprised they didn’t even offer is a free breakfast or drink at the bar for all the mess.

Cleanliness

I was there on a business trip for 4 days. I have to say that the location of the hotel is absolutely amazing. It’s walkable to a lot of restaurants, cafes, pubs, and activities. The staff at the restaurants and bars are very friendly and welcoming. The room are a bit dirty. Housekeeping doesn’t sweep or vacuum the floor when you make up the room. Overall, I enjoyed my stay.

The bath towels were not soft and very scratchy.

There was a blood like brown/red stain on my sheets. There was no extra rooms to change to so they came and removed the sheet. When removing the shoot it wasn’t just the sheet that was stained but the mattress cover as well, meaning that it was new and the sheets were dirty.

When we arrive the room the one bed room sheet has not changed. Crinkled and looks someone used. We ask to the front desk and they changed room. Half of rooms are faced on new construction apartments and very close. I do not recommend this hotel.

There was mold in and around the shower, also the seal on the shower door was not tight and water leaked all over the floor. Staff was great!

My wife and I were there in room 925 for four days. General speaking our experience was very positive with a couple of details becoming an inconvenience. The first one is in the bathroom where the shower head is installed so high that a short person cannot reach it. The second problem is the switch light is also out of reach from the bed. You need to jump off the bed to set it on/off.

From the reviews and photos online I expected the hotel to be excellent. While the room itself was clean and comfortable, it was very annoying to listen to metal chairs dragging across the tile floor above us from 6 AM to late in the evening every night. Our room was on the 15th floor and the rooftop bar and event space was right above us. I would not recommend that anyone accept a room assignment on the 15th floor. Also I was very disappointed that although the suite featured a kitchen it did not have a microwave or any dishes or silverware. Lastly, the food in the restaurant and bar was mediocre at best.

Hot tub was never hot - barely warm, huge disappointment. The sink in the room didn't drain well. Shower head was the most confusing setup. Temp was capped at 76F. Cleaning was happenning when you come back to the hotel to relax, too late, so in 3 days it was never cleaned. The room we had was right above the fitness club, so in the morning you feel like you are in the fitness class with loud music and instructor yelling - good luck sleeping in. Will most likely not stay there again.

On our first morning there, loud music from the gym woke us at 7am. Management was unhelpful.

For management I was a bit disappointed in the lack of space to place and keep open one normal sized bag for each of us. I used the bench and she used the chair. A luggage rack would have worked and there was room for one. I would have asked for one if I was staying longer. The hanging area is very small and it made it a challenge to access the safe.

The room was spacious, comfortable, and nice.

My husband and i stayed here for the weekend, i paid extra for a bay view on a high floor just to get a view of construction. This was so disappointing due to the fact that on their website they are still offering a bay view room knowing theres a huge building a couple feet away doing construction. I kept my blinds closed my whole stay. Carte hotel needs to stop false advertising and change the “bay view” title down. Also, dont expect to sleep in, construction is extremely loud and invasive. Lastly, the front desk lacked any empathy while delivering this news to us. I wouldve rather paid more at a different hotel for a better room and better customer service. Will not be doing business with Carte hotel again.

WiFi was spotty at best. Not good for business travel at all

DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY. MASSIVE CONSTRUCTION - Multi-block 32 story highrise going up on the entire adjoining property on the south side of this hotel. RATES WERE NOT DISCOUNTED. No Disclosure is provided in the description of the property. Starting at 7 am and all day long... a 30 man constuction crew, crains, welders, tractors are in full on construction and in view on a new 32 story skyscraper next door. The Hotel is 16 stories. Current construction was up to the pool level and just below our room. Crain was hauling huge loads of construction material literally in front of our window and the construction noise intolerable.(READ BEYOND ABILITY TO FUNCTION IN ROOM) They immediately moved us to the North Side which was an accessible suite room, funky shower, etc. with inferior view. It was now 8am and we had to pack everything up of course. Huge inconvenience to say the least. Makes you feel totally scammed. No Refund. Received a $50 in food breakfast credit which I couldn't use, because I decided to leave instead of stay overnight and it was only available for breakfast Despite the fact I picked my car from valet and let the front desk know I didnt need the 2nd overnight, I was still charged an additional $60. The Construction is such a huge problem at this property the front desk staff and the hotel patrons are totally stressed out. The front desk was totally pushing back. It effects so many of their rooms and the guests were irrate and rightfully frustrated.

The Property charges an additional $30 dollars a day and parking is $75 dollars per day as well. The Night staff was amazing, But I can’t say that abt day staff including management

Front desk was rude. They love to make tou feel like a criminal for not booking on their site. Oh you booked on Expedia, lets treat you like you did not pay for the room and give you the worst room possible.

Arrived early before the 4pm check in. They took down my number and said they’d call when the room was ready. My fiancé and I waited in the lobby for the last hour until 4pm and watched 3 people get their room keys before us and I never got a call or text that our room was ready. After I saw others get their room keys, I asked the front desk about the room and she said it just became available and then gave us the key.

They should hire a more welcoming front desk employee instead of someone who seems uninterested in being there. The staff member I encountered was very disrespectful.

Staff was incredibly accommodating. We sleep with fans at home, they found a fan for us. My husband is struggling with cancer, they made sure we were on the quiet side of the hotel away from the construction of the rest of the city. They also made sure his room was close to the elevators so he didn’t have to walk far. They also allowed us to have a late check out so he could get a couple more hours of sleep. They went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible when we were away from home. Very helpful with questions about how to get around the city. And they have awesome water bottle refilling stations on every floor with chewable ice! They knew what I wanted before I did! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was gorgeous! This hotel exceeded my expectations!

After requesting an early check in 1 week in advance and again the morning of our stay and being told both times we would be offered early check in, we still didnt receive it. Not even 1 hour. We were really hoping to check in prior to our event we were attending that evening. Since we could not, we left our bags at the bell desk and went to our event. Upon returning I expressed to the manager my frustration when I was getting our room keys and finally able to check in and he said to me he did not appreciate the way I was talking to him (which wasnt offensive) and then proceeded to tell me that noone was available to help with our bags, told me to go get them from the bellman closet ourselves and we then took them ourselves up to our room. 10 minutes after arriving in our room the same mamager knocks at the door with security staying there was a noise complaint. This had to have been a joke. I told him he was ridiculous and I closed the door. We didnt hear from him after that. The young men working valet were amazing and so was the staff at the bar and the rooftop restaurant. Because of the front desk service and the manager I will not choose to stay here again. Unfortunate for this hotel to have staff that arent very accomodating. I do travel often and I do stay in San Diego frequently. I have never experienced service such as this.

We stayed 4 nights and had 2 rooms. I would have given 5stars except we had some personal items missing from our room. We had brought it the front desk’s attention and were told manager will contact us the next day. Unfortunately they had never followed up with us.

This must be one of the top hotels I’ve been at lately. The entire staff we interacted with was extremely friendly. The property is CLEAN and I mean OCD clean. The location is very good if you plan to visit San Diego. Make sure to drop by the Above Ash rooftop bar. I would absolutely return.

Great Hotel! Located near great restaurants in little Italy. 10 minute drive to the gaslamp district. The location is also very walkable. The staff was friendly and courteous. Definitely recommend. Will he staying her again for my next trip to SD!

Great location to dining and public transportation. Quiet and a lovely rooftop bar and lovely pool area.

Love this hotel and it’s proximity to Seaport Village.

Great property, new and well designed. Staff helpful. Location excellent to everything local, it’s at the base of Little Italy so lots of great dining options walking distance. We had a car and we’re able to see LaJolla and Torrey Pines easily, dinner in North Park 15 min drive, drive over to Coronado in less than 10 min. Due to crazy weather the rooftop dining was shut so used our $30/day property fee at the lobby bar, which was actually a really good experience. Did not have difficulty with nearby street parking for the 3 days we were there. Room spacious and well appointed. Would stay at Carte again and highly recommend.

Excellent modern hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Just a few blocks to waterfront and a couple blocks to all the restaurants in Little Italy.

The hotel was great but there were 3 things that dampered my trip. For starters, the surrounding construction taking place right outside my window. Nunber 2 was the homeless encampments around the hotel. Definitely gave the DTLA vibe. Last but not least, the valet was very unsafe. The space provided for valet was very small and during peak hours the cars would back up blocking the intersection.

I really enjoyed my stay, but did not realize the hotel was still blocks away from Little Italy. I felt safe walking there during daylight, but not after sundown due to being spit on and shouted at by an aggressive (homeless) man begging for change on India Street, which I realize has nothing to do with Carte. The staff at the hotel was exceptionally friendly and accomodating. My room was very clean besides a random trash bag in the corner between my headboard and curtains. The courtyard is beautiful and I really enjoyed sitting by the fire in the evening. Jose at Above Ash was the best and we looked forward to each time we went up to the restaurant (3 out of 5 days). He made us feel very welcomed and at home on Thanksgiving Day.

Early check-in was quick and easy. Hotel was clean, area was quiet at night and safe to walk. Variety of different restaurants in little Italy. Hotel is quiet at night as well. It was an amazing stay.

Clean contemporary hotel with great rooftop bar/ restaurant

The staff were amazing friendly and accommodating from the time of arrival. Rooms were immaculate, beds were super comfy and everything was extremely clean. Rooftop bar is definitely worth seeing and dining at, food was delicious and José our waiter was amazing.

When we booked, we stayed during the rock and roll marathon and the finish line was very close to the hotel. The restaurant downstairs was super busy the morning of the marathon but overall they did a good job

Hotel staff were very friendly. The hotel was nice enough but at that price, I expected a bit more (e.g. they had cheap plastic disposable cups in the room rather than glass, housekeeping had to be requested). There was a mandatory $30/night resort fee which you could get back as a credit at their restaurant but the restaurant was ridiculously overpriced and the food was very mediocre (except for the gelato that was excellent). If I returned to San Diego I'd probably find a different hotel.

Restaurants were great

The establishment was bright, very clean and modern. The staff in lobby, restaurant and housekeeping were friendly and helpful. It was smaller and less crowded and overwhelming than larger hotels. It was my first time using an elevator w/touch screen access and button free on the inside!! Cool!! The breakfast at Watercolors was really tasty! It was a fabulous location in Downtown San Diego and I would definitely stay again!! Thanks Carte!!

Hotel needs to work out a few kinks with service Roof top bar lacked full menu options; really slow service. housekeeping forgot coffee cups and was unavailable when I tried to reach them. No answer.
