The Wayfarer San Diego

Great location on Pacific Beach. The pool, jacuzzi, and patio with fire pit was a plus. You can lounge and enjoy the ocean view, active beach, and people watch (cyclists, skate boarders, runners, walkers.etc.

Overall the property was good. Good value for price paid, good location, and loved the murals. Some of the furniture in the room could use a refresh but not a deal breaker for us. The cafe was convenient. One thing to note, the tiles in the pool area were extremely slippery when wet, which was essentially always. Be careful walking in that area.

Parking was under construction. And 36 dollars a night extra.

Liked the location. Did not like that you have to pay $40 per day for parking when you stay at this hotel. I think parking should be included with room.

We loved staying at the wayfarer! Couldn’t ask for a better location. Great pool, pool bar, coffee shop, and beach rentals.

LOVED the area! Traveled with my husband and kids and have never stayed this close to the beach. Perfect spot for all the restaurants and ideal for anyone. Pool overlooked the beach … property states pool is heated. Could have been the weather but the pool didn’t seem heated, spent majority of the time in the hot tub. June gloom kind of vibe and then perfect weather at check out.

This was our second stay at the Wayfarer. Amazing and convenient location. Right on the beach. Splurged for an ocean view room which was amazing for sunsets but we weren’t actually in the room that much. Perfect for a stay all day at the beach spot. Can come back to the pool area to rinse in the shower, warm up in the hot tub, or take a sand free plunge in the pool. We will come back next time we make it to San Diego.

Really enjoyed the hot tub and pool! They were very clean! Also the underground parking was very nice.

Parking lot is unsafe for normal pickup trucks. Parking spaces are very narrow and driveways are narrow and dangerous. Other than that property is really nice to stay at.

The rooms are extremely old and have a very unpleasant smell. The carpet is very old and looks worn out. The bathrooms flood when you shower because of the way they are built, and Wayfarer is aware of this issue but doesn’t seem to care. They also have a sewer problem because the water doesn’t drain properly when you shower, which is quite gross. The balcony is very unpleasant and outdated. The blinds are moldy and falling apart. They said the pool is heated, but it was freezing. The lady who checked us in had a terrible attitude. Overall, this place is horrible.

Clean room, staff was friendly and very helpful. Pool and hot tub were very inviting but we left our suits at home. Next time we go back to the beach we will stay here.

Room was a mold breeding ground and the carpet was damp enough to leave your socks uncomfortable. There was mold around the bathroom and clear water damage above the shower. There is ZERO insulation preventing you from hearing the people below, above and either side. Not to mention the continuous noise from outside so if you thought about leaving your patio door open to hear the waves, good luck. Pool area was flooded with kids and is TINY for the amount of rooms and people the hotel accommodates. Better get your towel on your chair quick or you’re not getting a spot. I was completely taken back by the horrific smell that whatever deodorizer is used to mask it is only making it worse. The WiFi is trash and unless I was outside, Verizon didn’t work great either. Came to relax with my parents and felt so gross in the hotel I spent majority of my time away, but my father is unable to walk well due to a rare disease he was just diagnosed with and basically was stuck at the pool area most of the trip. Expedia said $35 credit towards parking but we didn’t have a car and we’re not given a credit to use elsewhere (since they charge extra for real internet and all the “amenities” they advertise) Quite frankly I was very disappointed that I paid extra for this place over the one next door due to the ratings, could have saved myself a TON of money across the parking lot.

Overall it was a nice peaceful stay, the only issues was the cleanliness. Our room had sink water with I don’t know what in it and overall it could’ve been cleaner or smelled a bit better. Beautiful area and nice amenities within hotel, staff nice too!

If you want to be close to the beach, then this is a nice property. The pool area in particular faces right onto the beach and is really very nice. The rooms however, are just fair. For $500+ a night I really expected more. The room was very basic as were the amenities and it didn't feel that clean to me. But you are really just paying for the location. The staff was very nice and responsive. When we moved into our room, the tub plug was pulled out broken and dirty, the Safe didn't work, the toilet flushed slowly, and one of the towels was dirty. I reported all of these things the next day and every single one of them was fixed immediately, which I appreciated. But they should have done better.

This is my second time staying at Wayfarer. Staff was great, missed my garbage. Resolved quickly. Was a small tear in carpet, notified facility to repair.

We had a great experience. Even though the hotel is older it is very clean and the bed was really comfortable. The staff was really nice and friendly. The weather wasn’t warm enough for the pool, however it seemed really nice. We did relax there and watched the sunset.

The location is prime, right on the ocean. The facilities were decent, nothing too fancy but they pretty much had everything. Staff was available, friendly and helpful. My only gripe would be the room was musty. There was mold in the toilet that didn’t get clean even after housekeeping went through. Perhaps that’s just an ocean front thing? Overall the place was a good place to stay and I was happy I booked there. The beachfront is fabulous.

Loved my stay - wish I would have had more down time as I was there for work. The proximity to the beach and restaurants is excellent and the staff is very friendly. My only complaint is that the carpets in the rooms are old and seem dirty.

How the mighty have fallen. Our stay two years ago was such an amazing time. This time was such a disappointment. The room was so tiny, my wife and I could not move around in the same space at the same time. Just because you can put a king bed in a room, doesn’t mean you should put a king bed in a room. The end of the bed was so close to the dresser we could barely put our clothes away and if you had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, good luck making it there without slamming I to the baseboard or the dresser. The walls are so thin, we had to listen to loud music and kids playing and banging on the walls the first three night there and a baby crying the last two nights. And every time the room next to us slammed their door the headboard of the bed would slam up against the wall. The outrageous parking fee is acceptable until you realize how much you’ve spent for the tiny room and noisey, sleepless nights. And the pot smokers will be glad to know that the no smoking policy does not apply to pot, since the hotel smells like a marijuana plant. Definitely not worth the money and we will look at other hotels in the area next year.

I did not receive a VIP benefit. Parking is pricey. Location is great as it is right on the beach with plenty of dining options nearby. The room was clean with a nice balcony and ocean view

Location is nice, right on the walkway by the beach. It's a busy, bustling area, but the hotel was surprisingly quiet. No noise at all that we could hear from the beach at night. Lounging area is fairly nice, and provides a direct outlet to the beach walk. Pool is small but OK for cooling off. Room was small (ours was an oceanfront on the bottom floor), but neat and tidy. A terrific spot right on the beach. Our oceanfront room had an unbeatable view of the beach. Service was excellent throughout our four night stay. Comfortable beds and nice pool/spa area as well. We will definitely return here for our next San Diego visit.

If your looking to be close and walk to everything, perfect spot. If your trying to hang out by the pool, great spot. Biggest down fall, room size, Ocean front rooms are so small, 2 people for a weekend is perfect, don't bring a lot of luggage, you have limited space for everything. The size of the room and the price you pay, your paying for the location not the room. Ocean front isn't worth the money

The room was big and spacious. Nice beach view.

The biggest positive about the property is that you are right on the beach and boardwalk - however our room was on the first floor facing the boardwalk , and we constantly had people hanging out right in front of our balcony constantly smoking cigarettes , and just a lot of noise , people partying , and we could hear it all through the night . If that’s your thing , then this is your place . If you are looking for a quiet place , this may not be the spot .

The location is the best for beach enjoyment and for transportation pickup. My wife is a discerning critic of bed condition and comfort, and she was pleased with the bed. World Famous restaurant is just a few steps away and it offers excellent food at reasonable prices. These are some of the reasons that we keep going back to this hotel year after year.

Also, I was charged twice for my stay. The employee at the desk was helpful at correcting the mistake but it should not have happened in the first place.

Pros:
The hotel’s location right beside the beach is its most attractive feature. The rooms are clean and appear to have been renovated in recent years, which adds to the overall comfort. Cons:
The young front desk lady lacked warmth, making the experience feel less welcoming. And Additionally, the hotel seemed overly focused on upselling, which felt borderline exploitative. Guests are constantly bombarded with text messages to upgrade rooms for extra fees, extend hours for additional charges, or book another night at discounted rates—even after checkout. The Wi-Fi connection process is also tricky, as it’s easy to accidentally select costly upgrade options. No breakfast included and paid parking for $36/night(free public parking just outside the hotel) Overall, the hotel doesn’t worth its rates, especially during the off-peak winter season. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

We loved The Wayfarer! Blaise at the front desk was incredibly helpful and kind. The room was beautiful. The bed and pillows were so comfortable! We loved the partial ocean view! The pool and hot tub were fantastic. Access to the beach just steps away and the convenience of parking and beach rentals were unmatched! Highly recommend and hope to return!

Hotel location you can’t beat! Right on the beach boardwalk with easy access to the beach! Beds are extremely comfortable. Rooms have everything you need, small but let’s be honest - you aren’t spending your time in the room! Pool is nice and has perfect view of the ocean!! Onsite parking is nice, however you do have to pay a daily fee. Location proximity to restaurants is ideal! You can literally walk everywhere

We enjoyed our nicely decorated 2 bedroom ocean front room here! Great people watching on the boardwalk out front. Pool area clean and nicely decorated, as was lobby. I wish the little coffee bar inside the hotel had some more food options/grab and go. Also an evening hour for coffee. Otherwise, the only other walkable coffee place closes right afterwards. Parking is tight especially for larger cars or trucks and is $40 per night. The parking garage has a 6’ clearance but some limited outside parking.

We loved being right on Pacific Beach. Plenty of sights and things to do, good restaurants close by. The restaurant next door, "World Famous" was excellent. Hotel staff was very responsive to our needs and the property was very clean. All in all a very good stay. Highly recommended.

Think “spirit airlines” charges with “extended stay” facilities (dirty and smells moldy). You get charged hotel prices just bc it is next to the boardwalk, but it’s truly a motel. Theres no restaurant available but an overpriced coffee place. You have to walk across the parking lot to get to the front desk. The deposit charged is actually an open tab to all the things they try to charge you. Paid $300+ a night and there weren’t even complementary bottles of water. Even the chairs by the pool are “for rent”. Find a better place in this area.
