Spectacular, immaculately maintained historic mansion. Suite (Vermillion) was on the 3rd floor, so pack light and/or have a pack mule Billy goat to carry your belongings. Well worth the climb. Spotlessly clean, historic details, the most comfortable bed and pillows, huge bathroom with Vermillion green tiled shower and massive sink. Huge closet with fridge and microwave and plenty of room to store luggage and coats. Could easily get accustomed to early morning coffee and pastries in the sunroom or on the front porch. Though the mansion was fully booked, we only ran into one other guest during the 3 days of our stay. A remarkable place to stay and will return again and again!

Me and my girlfriend loved this place. If ever back in duluth this is the spot I'd stay at again . The room we stayed in was the marry and Josephine and we loved it.super clean has a fridge,microwave .awesome coffe,jet tub was amazing. Tv was nice with all the apps.even there own netflix. And the lounge area downstairs is awesome.

It was a beautiful house. It was hot in the common area with no central air. The room had a window air conditioner that was noisy and ran all of the time. It was middle 70s outside. The furnishings were lovely, it was restored to perfection. We were there in late July.

It was a new experience for my wife and I to stay in a stately old mansion. You have to put away from your mind any concepts of modern amenities, like a pool and full-service bar, because this is a different kind of facility. Your experience here is focused on the grandeur of the place, the quiet mood that surrounds you, and the feeling of history that you get when you walk around. There is, of course, full internet service and TV with three quality streaming services available. It was nice to explore the city during the day, and then come "home" to a rich, quiet accommodation with massive facility basically all yours to enjoy.

Very nice place to stay. Unique experience. If i had one suggestion it would be to either buy a tv that the background light turns off when you turn the tv off or provide a dark, light curtain to cover it. I found it hard to sleep with that light on all night.

Beautiful old house. Nice and quiet. Room was nicely appointed. Love the big jetted tub but question the cleanliness of jets as when i turned it on, moldy sediment came out. The coffee machine in dining area was awesome but the treats put out were awful. Enjoyed our stay and i would definitely go back.

This was an interesting and unique property. Very clean with spacious bedrooms and comfy bed. The claw foot tub fit in well with the decor but if you have mobility issues, it could be harder to use. And they did ask for you to not wear street shoes inside the mansion to protect the flooring. But we enjoyed our stay! The coffee maker in the breakfast area is great and the pastries were tasty!

Loved this mansion! What a beautiful place. Self check in which was new to us. The room was spacious. Fireplace, large bathroom, beautiful decor. Whole mansion is very clean and exciting to look around in. Breakfast consisted of Coffee, tea, a variety of fruits and baked goods. Perfect for us as we don’t eat much in the morning. Would definitely stay here again

It was a lovely property but we used the hot tub in our room and it was disgusting! There was absolutely no staff on-site either. Then out our window there was a balcony type of thing with pieces of the building, gloves and tools. I get it is an old building but maybe just clean that up.

MURPHY BED, DO NOT BOOK!! Worst bed I have ever stayed on in a hotel or BnB. Our backs were toast after 2 nights! Floors were uneven and had large gaps in the hardwood. The bed had a negative incline toward your head, so while sleeping the blood would rush to your head, we slept upside down to avoid this. False advertising with the pictures showing a regular bed.

It was nice for an antique mansion but if you’re looking for a place with many amenities, I wouldn’t stay here. The sliding door to the bathroom was kinda hard to open and close and the room never really got cold from the AC provided.

We've stayed at the Ctton Masion before in the Terrace Suite and enjoyed it so we wanted to check out another room. The equestrian suite is beautiful and very comfortable. Its the perfect spacious place for a couple to get away. We would definitely stay again.

This is a beautiful 100+ year old mansion. Being that it is over a hundred years old, it has some quirks. For instance, most of the doors to the entry and the suites need to be adjusted or planed, as they rub against the door frame. The hot water can take a couple minutes to actually be hot. Again this is a mansion that is over the century mark. I found our room to be spacious. I loved the high ceilings, the carved woodwork, oh, and the grand stairway...wow! I found the price of our stay to be well worth the opportunity to stay in a historical site. I found the continental breakfast to be marginal. The pastries were sub-par, the coffee in the dining room was okay. The selection and quality of fresh fruit was very good. Dining in the dining room, reading in the parlor and chatting with my wife in the solarium was grand, indeed. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

It was an amazing property! I gave comfort a 1 star because the bed was a hide a bed and it was sooooo uncomfortable!!!! I have back problems so it definitely did not feel good. You could feel the bars and springs underneath. We stayed in the speakeasy room. Otherwise the room was amazing! Loved the decor and the bathroom was amazing!! Will definitely stay again!

It was a beautiful house. It was hot in the common area with no central air. The room had a window air conditioner that was noisy and ran all of the time. It was middle 70s outside. The furnishings were lovely, it was restored to perfection. We were there in late July.

The property is very interesting and historically enjoyable, but Check-in was very poor. No note with entry codes cane for almost an hour after the 4 pm check-in time, and I had to call to get it and wait for a call-back too. This is a gorgeous property. It always feels like a privelege to stay there. We have the disadvantage of having stayed here when it was a B&B, so we miss the personal touch - the greeting, the ad hoc history lesson, the breakfast service, etc. Even given that it is now "boutique hotel" we were disappointed that the coffee creamer was empty, the coffee wasn't made when we came down in the morning, and the assortment of "pastries" were Speedway-quality muffins and scones that seemed like they may have been frozen and thawed. The biggest issue was that the property may have sent out the access codes promptly at 3PM, but it went to the expediapartnercentral e-mail address, so I had to call and have them send the codes directly to my own e-mail address. The information from the original e-mail was not forwarded to us until the next DAY, which obviously wa of no use at all.

After one small hiccup when we first checked in everything else was amazing. The staff was quick to correct and even went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I booked a weekend at the Cotton Mansion, and I must say I was relieved. Everyone told me to stay at a place on Canal park or around, but the Cotton Mansion was perfect. It's elegant inside and very clean. Each general area room is inviting, well-lit and comfortable. My room was beautiful, well-equipped and cozy. There was plenty of space to store my belongings, a large TV (which I never used but was a nice add) plus a large jacuzzi, which I did use! The staff were friendly and helpful. Had to take off shoes at lobby, then walk up to the 3rd floor. This was apparently to preserve the the wood floors, but i was kind of puzzled, because they were of very ordinary quality, with no inlays, or anything distinguishing about them to speak of. A map or directory at the lobby would've been nice to direct us to our room, which turned out to be on the 3rd floor. The room was nice, as was the bed. Breakfast was mediocre. Pastries were something that you would get from a 7-11, and the coffee was basically colored water. The cappucino machine was broken, so it's not like there were a lot of options. The main rooms downstairs were magnificent. Lots of ornate wood and metal work(floors aside). I missed the human touch that you would get from a regular B & B.

This is a beautiful 100+ year old mansion. Being that it is over a hundred years old, it has some quirks. For instance, most of the doors to the entry and the suites need to be adjusted or planed, as they rub against the door frame. The hot water can take a couple minutes to actually be hot. Again this is a mansion that is over the century mark. I found our room to be spacious. I loved the high ceilings, the carved woodwork, oh, and the grand stairway...wow! I found the price of our stay to be well worth the opportunity to stay in a historical site. I found the continental breakfast to be marginal. The pastries were sub-par, the coffee in the dining room was okay. The selection and quality of fresh fruit was very good. Dining in the dining room, reading in the parlor and chatting with my wife in the solarium was grand, indeed. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

This was an interesting and unique property. Very clean with spacious bedrooms and comfy bed. The claw foot tub fit in well with the decor but if you have mobility issues, it could be harder to use. And they did ask for you to not wear street shoes inside the mansion to protect the flooring. But we enjoyed our stay! The coffee maker in the breakfast area is great and the pastries were tasty!

We stayed here for a mini-vacation in the Selena room. The building is absolutely beautiful and the rooms are thoughtfully designed and very cozy. For those that may have not packed shampoo, etc., the hotel supplied options were great. Morning pastries and coffee were absolutely delicious and the building was overall quiet despite having a handful of rooms filled. Really appreciate the parking, too! It is an older building and they’ve done a good job of maintaining the antiqueness of it. For example, we had a clawfoot tub that was ever so slightly wobbly, and the hot water spout in the bathroom sink dribbled water ever so slightly. Not enough to ruin our trip whatsoever, but just something to go into your stay knowing that minor things like this may be a possibility.

We have stayed here several times before when it was a B&B and had a great time. Not the same experience. No breakfast unless you pre-order it, which they don't tell you until afterward. Regardless, they decided not to have any breakfast because of the marathon, not just Sat. but also Sunday, which was pretty disappointing. They did have some muffins and scones out, the same ones each day and coffee. No warning was given. The most irritating thing was the lack of notice that a very loud (70-80 music band) block party was held Saturday afternoon until after 9;30 pm right outside our room! Of course then incredible price gouging due to the marathon, was ridiculous and not even having a breakfast. Jeez. Great room, no complaint there, but will try other options in the future.

The mansion was a very cool place to stay! The keyless checkin and entry was stemless. The house was very clean, the bed was very comfortable. We stayed in the Mary and Josephine suite. The soaker tub was a bit tricky to get in and out of——and we are pretty agile! The shower wouldn’t turn on—that was pretty inconvenient. I’d hate to think the broken shower is an ongoing issue. One drawback to no onsite staff was this couldn’t be addressed prior to checkout. Breakfast was a mix of prepackaged and fresh pastries and fresh fruit. I reached out to the property management company a week prior to our arrival asking if they could provide a gluten free option as I have Celiac disease. I was pretty bummed that they had packaged banana bread—but no GF. Overall a nice place to stay.

Loved loved loved our 2-night stay at The Cotton Mansion. The house is incredible. The attention to detail in each of the common rooms is stunning. We also loved listening to the audio tour that shares details about the Cotton family, the rooms in the house, and the history of the property. I highly recommend taking the time to take the self-guided tour. We stayed in the Aquitania Suite which was on the third floor in the back. The room was cozy, comfortable, and quiet. While it was on the smaller side, the common areas more than made up for it. We enjoyed lounging in the library and the sunroom. We really felt like we were staying in someone's home, not a hotel. The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood but it's a very short drive to Canal Park and other places in Duluth. I would not hesitate to stay here again, as I want to experience one of the other guest rooms!

I highly recommend taking the time to take the self-guided tour. We stayed in the Aquitania Suite which was on the third floor in the back. The room was cozy, comfortable, and quiet. While it was on the smaller side, the common areas more than made up for it. We enjoyed lounging in the library and the sunroom. We really felt like we were staying in someone's home, not a hotel. The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood but it's a very short drive to Canal Park and other places in Duluth. I would not hesitate to stay here again, as I want to experience one of the other guest rooms!

We booked this room for our anniversary, and unfortunately the bed was the biggest disappointment. The pillows were extremely thin, so I had to fold two together for adequate support. The blankets and bedding were acceptable but not especially comfortable. Most importantly, the bed frame squeaked loudly whenever either of us shifted position or rolled over, which made it difficult to sleep well. Since a comfortable, quiet bed is essential for any overnight stay, I would not book this property again unless the bed is repaired or replaced. I also cannot recommend it to anyone who prioritizes a restful night’s sleep.
