The car park was nearly full when we arrived and cars parked very badly, and seemed to be used by non guests. Staff were friendly and the good in the bar was good. Unfortunately in the court yard they opened up the covered area and all the wasps came in affecting those dining. The evening was awful. Avoid room 19 is they have a party on. The speakers sounded like they were on the wall next to the room and were blaring and too loud until midnight. We were told there was a warning about this on the booking but we had nothing from Hotels.com. Staff made no effort to appease us. They should not be booking people in to the rooms right by the sound system. It was a hot night but we could not have the windows open due to all the smokers, and some with unpleasant smoke smells coming up from the area under the room window. Again avoid room 19.

Stayed a few times before. Fair value. Excellent choice for a base if you are exploring the area or just need an overnight stay. Good facilities, comfortable beds, good powerful shower, continental breakfast incl. (extra for full English), and good selection of beers. Added bonus of free parking. All round would recommend.

A deceptively large hotel in a small town in the middle of rural Derbyshire. Comfortable room but no air conditioning though fan was supplied. Excellent water pressure. Restaurant(s) and bar in hotel. Good secure and free parking.

The staff have always been very pleasant and efficient. Our room (17) was nice and once we had mastered the hot and cold for the shower (we could not get it off scalding until the 2nd day of our stay), so was the bathroom. The Lion does host wedding receptions and parties, and unfortunately we were directly over the functions room and the disco, so things didn't quieten down until midnight. The included continental breakfast was very good, and we didn't bother to pay the extra £9.95 for cooked breakfast. The open air car park is pretty good, although by it's nature only partially secure, with a code operated barrier to exit. Overall, The Lion is good value for money, and we will stay again when in the area.

Lovely clean room that had everything we needed. Appreciated the fan provided as it was a very hot night. Had our evening meal there and can highly recommend - it was delicious. Free Continental breakfast was also good. Great value. Would definitely stay again.

Only done a overnight stay for buisness trip found check in staff and staff in bar and restaurante very profesional. Was dissapointed with the room was very basic and dated bathroom had damp on ceiling and smelt damp. Was small single room overlooking the petrol station next door so if was to stay here again would try a upgradded room.

Heavily stained bed linen. Very noisy activity throughout the night. I informed the receptionist about the bed linen. No compensation was offered. And as I was in a hurry I didn’t continue the conversation.

I don’t know if the single room isn’t used much, but there was spider webs in the corners, you could feel the spring in the madras. The window was worn out. The daily cleaning was ok.

Generally clean but tired in terms of decor and requires updating. Toilet had a crack. Good hot shower. Service friendly and welcoming. Continental Breakfast poor offerings as nothing left hardly after an hour.

the room number 12 was located next to a busy road and garage the room was Hot with no air con , had a small fan but with the windows open found it difficult to sleep. the other window overlooked the back of the hotel with the refuse lorry arriving just after 6am. the overall score is reflected in the lack of sleep through noise.

Nice hotel good location our room was a bit small and noisy on the Saturday night as we were right by the bar & courtyard . But they catered very well for us at our big family meal the organisation and service were excellent

Good location, easy to park. Nice big room but decor a bit dated. Couldn't turn down heating in room so had to open a window overnight. We didn't eat in the hotel apart from the complimentary continental breakfast which was adequate.

My room this time was comfortable and quiet, however I have stayed before in order rooms which had noise from a generator or the road all night. Disappointing continental breakfast had very little choice. Helpful staff.

A very comfortable hotel convenient for the Peak District. Although it's on the main road, it was quiet at night and it was easy to find with plenty of parking. Our room was large and clean and the bed very comfortable. We had an excellent supper in the bar and the continental breakfast was more than enough.

The food and staff were very good. We had a delicious dinner in the evening. It was a very busy and lively pub but not causing any noise issues as a lot of the rooms are at the back in the extended area. There was plenty of parking too. However, the bed was very uncomfortable. The mattresses were very worn out, with dips in the middle and you could feel the springs. I think i would have slept better on a plank of wood. It is good value for money though and Belper town is quite noise with plenty of independent bars and shops.

Warm, comfortable and friendly. Mostly an enjoyable stay, however, it was disappointing that the hotel staff we talking loudly right outside the bedrooms in the morning. There was no chance of a peaceful lie-in. These staff seemed to have no empathy for the paying customer who might have expected some peace and quiet. If you want to chat then do so quietly somewhere away from the bedrooms. This was poor customer service; which is a shame because the rest of the stay was good.

Good location for travelling by train, 5 minute walk from Belper Station. Food was very good in the restaurant.Main complaint is about the cleaning staff holding early daily meetings on a landing outside rooms, conversations very clear from inside the room, these meetings should not be held here where they can wake guests.

The breakfast was very disappointing. It was supposed to be a continental breakfast. When we arrived 30mins before breakfast finished there was no fruit and 1 slice of cheese, one croissants and the drinks were cold.We asked if they we going to replenish it. They only brought out some fruit and one type of cheese. With a continental breakfast you do usually expect a range of cooked meat and cheeses aswell as youghurt and pastries and a choice of hot tea and coffee.

Good central location, with decent road / rail / bus links, a comfortable hotel. Ideal location for walking in that area. There are plenty of places to walk, e.g. Derwent Valley Heritage Way, and visit, e.g. Derby, Cromford Mills and Denby nearby.

Very friendly and welcoming. Room was nice and comfortable. Good choices for breakfast both cooked and continental style. We also had our evening meals at the Hotel and there was a good choice and it was well presented. Staff friendly and accommodating. Located in the Town Centre about 100 yards from the Railway Station and Bus Station. Convenient for trips to Chatsworth and Peak District.

Our room was large and clean and the bed very comfortable. We had an excellent supper in the bar and the continental breakfast was more than enough.

This was our second trip to the lion at Belpur, and though we couldn’t have the bigger room this time, the room we had was still adequate for what we wanted. Always good friendly staff, who are more than willing to help. The pub is located in a good area, close to shops and high street, and the mills and gardens. Fantastic time which is why we returned.

Stayed here several times now. Staff have always been super friendly and the rooms are good despite being a little dated. The bar is very friendly, food is good and the hotel is conveniently located for the town centre and railway station. Highly recommended.

Stay was ok. Staff very good and friendly but thought the breakfast was very poor. Probably the worse continental ever had. For the price and standard of room you should be getting a full english. Bed in room eas to singles pushed together this was very poor. Room was meant to be deluxe nothing deluxe about it

Reception was really far too busy for one person to handle. Consequently there was a little frustration evident. Continental breakfast is included, however, a cooked breakfast is a £9.50 option - this could be made clearer when booking. Rooms are comfortable but old fashioned and quite 'tired'.

Easy and efficient check in. Very comfortable and well stocked bedroom and bathroom. Plenty of choice on the menu's and always well presented with good sized portions and excellent quality.

The breakfast was very disappointing. It was supposed to be a continental breakfast. When we arrived 30mins before breakfast finished there was no fruit and 1 slice of cheese, one croissants and the drinks were cold.We asked if they we going to replenish it. They only brought out some fruit and one type of cheese. With a continental breakfast you do usually expect a range of cooked meat and cheeses aswell as youghurt and pastries and a choice of hot tea and coffee.

Good size clean room. Very hot weather and a small fan only in the room. A bigger one would have helped with sleep overnight. Breakfast was in the pizza room and not much selection as staff loading small portions only for customers to choose from. Had to ask for refill a few times. Always a nice stay, helpful staff and this was on a very busy weekend for the music festival. Thank you

We booked a superior room which was large but was on the noisy side regarding traffic and people on the street. We’ve stayed here before in a normal room on the opposite side and was much quieter. Breakfast (continental) was nice and the waiter was very good and pleasant.

Room was ready on arrival and so we were given access about an hour early which was great. Room was clean and comfortable, but basic. Had a fan provided which was appreciated in the very hot weather. The shower over the bath could do with updating. Hotel has good amenities, bar and restaurant. Can recommend the pizzas. The hotel also warns that functions take place especially at weekends and to double check with them because it can be noisy and so not for everyone. The continental breakfast was very pleasant and included in your stay. You could upgrade to a cooked for £10.50. Staff including the cleaning ladies were friendly and helpful. All in all a pleasant stay.
