Beautiful historic property. Residence of Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan. Room was spacious even though dated. Beautiful view of gardens. Lots of walks through forest. Felt like I was in a fairy tale. Beautiful lobby and breakfast room. Lots of breakfast options. Difficult to manage stairs with luggage. No lift.

caution --we picked this hotel as builders it was away from the city down a country road. So we felt the van would be safer there. however it is not as this area is targeted by the theives that are also thinking that too. there is no real security on site, and no barrier access allowing them easy access at night to steel from you and according to feedback this is hot spot for builders vans tools to be stolen from this site.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Good breakfast wonderful surroundings. Downside there was no lift which could be difficult for the elderly or people with mobility issues

Good food. Pleasant staff. Rooms a bit tired. Persistent playing of 1950-60s music in public rooms! Parking spaces unusually narrow. Too so for cars that need a wide space.

Fantastic hotel with lots of set in the country and therefore very quiet. Breakfast was perfect and a good choice. Recommended all round. Surrounding gardens and area was lovely.

Clean and comfortable and some nice touches like a more luxurious selection than you'd often expect of tea coffee and hot chocolate sachets, decent toiletries and good quality towels mattress and pillows. The general condition of the rooms could be improved but would say for the price this was not unacceptable all things considered. The standard of service at breakfast was very good and nice to have linen table cloths and napkins. Cooked breakfast nicely done but the continental felt like it was a bit more of a side show. The main house is very interesting and the four acres of mature grounds were very impressive and very calming. Was a real surprise to find a location like this inside of the M25. Lots of parking. Would stay again.

This hotel is looking very tired and was poorly serviced. There was black mould all around the back of the bathroom basin and a smear of something on the inside of the bath that I needed to clean. The bath plug hole was completely blocked with previous guests’ hair. I don’t know how they justify the premium pricing for rooms here because this place has become quite run down. I’ve stayed in cleaner and better budget hotels. The restaurant was good however. We had a very pleasant meal.

Do not believe the pictures on their site, the rooms and corridors are very tired and not particularly clean either. The TV did not fit on the cabinet it was sitting on and dangerous, the bathroom needs and proper clean, still soap and toothpaste stains all over the wood work

What the rooms may have lacked in modern decor everything else more than made up for it. All the staff were incredibly friendly, breakfast was excellent, spotless rooms, comfy bed with quality linens, well stocked toiletries and tea/cofee/biscuits in room. As I was there for Boxing Day I had the bonus of a Christmas card and some delicious handmade truffles left in my room.

We were in a room but next door was a very noisy dog who kept barking constantly. We asked to be moved and we were. We went in to our new room and we had no dressing gowns as promised when we paid for the room. After calling we were given one slightly sad looking dressing gown without a belt and actually rather grubby. Apparently this was all that was available!! Staff were friendly and polite but we definitely didn’t get the room we paid for or the extras.

Stayed before but it is pretentious and not customer friendly. On arrival I was advised that I had been upgraded to a room in the house - but it was up several flights of stairs, which is not easy for people with heart conditions. They changed it to room on first floor - acceptable but .. To gain entry to the room you have to transverse the recital room. Not a problem on arrival but you cannot transverse the room during events but have to use a very narrow external spiral metal fire escape! Fine when the weather is good but not in inclement conditions or when you are elderly.!! The carrying of any cases or bags is impossible. The shock was the poor state of the carpet in the room. Coffee stains, marks and generally looking worn and tired. The room is in desperate need of refurbishment.

This hotel is in a fantastic setting and we booked this as it was my partner 50 th birthday, all was well until we went to our room soon as we opened the door the smell of someone smoking in the room was horrendous and seeing we were both not smokers this was not exceptional. I went to reception they would have moved us but had no rooms available but offered to spray the room when we went for our evening meal , it masked it for that evening but the next day it was back as before , even our clothes and towels had the smell of smoke. I don’t know why the room cleaners did not report this ??? It’s the worst of any hotel I have ever been to and I use hundreds of them during the year due to working away . So be careful when choosing this hotel

I stay there most weeks for 2 nights. The stay and rooms are always clean and comfortable. The food menu is fine and the staff are lovely. The corridors of the lodge are a little smelly sometimes especially the ground floor of the garden lodge.

Lovely looking hotel and gardens. Rooms ok, but in need of an update. Ecofriendlyness not great, due to silly little toiletry bottles. No excuse for that these days! Terrible old TV which didnt even have a working TV guide.

Overall it was ok. Good bits. Very clean, freshly cooked breakfast, big towels, good sized rooms. Public areas very nice, including grounds. Staff all friendly and helpful. Needs improvement. Rooms are tired and need refurb. Beds need new mattresses. We had twin beds, mine was ok despite having an older, cheaper sprung bed, my wife's was not comfortable. Rooms in the annex need soft close doors and better soundproofing. Even just having decent mattresses would make a massive difference. If Premier Inn can, surely Best Western can? It could be amazing.

Thd hotel room was ok, heati g didnt seem to work, room was very cold. Food was ok but very expensive for what it was, bottle of beer £7.50...wow. Nice location, could do with updating as a hotel.

The room was freezing cold when I first got in it at about 10:00 p.m. I had to get into bed very quickly, fold the double quilt in half and tuck everything inside in order to warm up. The small radiator in the room was switched on but clearly hadn't been on long.

A beautiful property with so much potential. Unfortunately the rooms in the annex are no better than a one star motel. Slow drains, bad water pressure, doors that have 6 inch gaps at the bottom, lumpy beds and tired carpet and paint. The breakfast is great, so at least there is that.

The hotel is lovely steeped in history. The room was adequate although the double bed was small. The bathroom had a shower in the bath and an ingested towel rail. Sadly the water temperature was like warm and the flow of water poor. The pressure and temperature of water in the bathroom is not acceptable.

The drive up to the hotel and around the grounds was beautiful, sadly the same could not be said for the roominterior. We stayed overnight in the garden lodge. The bedroom looked corporate, tired and dated, the mattress was hard and lumpy (a bad night's sleep all round I'm afraid), the dark wooden furniture was depressing and the toilet flush was temperamental to say the least. Our French doors opened on to a grass area and the garden furniture consisted of a mosaic topped mini table and one accompanying chair, not sure where my other half was expected to sit. The adjoining rooms had a nice paved patio and a full compliment of seats...but I didn't count them all. Lastly, the doors, as someone has previously expressed, need to be soft closing, the racket was constant in the evening. Top marks to the cleaning staff but overall certainly not worth the room rate we paid.

Short overnight stay for a business trip. The staff were exceptionally helpful at check in and for ordering a meal to take to our room. We did not stay in the main building featured on the website there is a more modern block situated behind the main hotel. Well stocked with tea.coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Comfortable stay.

The outstanding thing about this hotel is that the staff are - without exception- excellent. From the moment we reached reception we were treated with a warm and genuine welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. We ordered room service and this arrived in a very short space of time . It was piping hot and delicious. Clerly it had been prepared with care and pride. When we needed an extension lead- it was delivered to our room within minutes. Nothing was too much trouble for the team to help us enjoy our stay

We booked an accessible room for a friend with disabilities. Everything was great, except room service did not bring the breakfast as ordered on one of the days. The staff were apologetic, but there was no recompense.

The service at dinner was not good. The menu was shown to the five guests and we chose our starters. It was then taken away it was brought back and we were asked what our next course had been chosen. The breakfast was very hot having been kept warm under a grill so that the bacon was like cardboard. The choice of juices and needed to be replenished. The room was extremely small and the lighting in the bathroom despite being bright not good to see the mirror sufficiently to shave with.

The hotel has interesting history and is picturesque as a building in nc grounds. We didn’t take meals, the main restaurant wasn’t open on our stay and breakfast was extra. A short walk gave access to local bus services to Harrow and Harrow on the hill. A local pub worked for our evening meal, busy so good atmosphere; we feared the hotel offer would have been dull due to low bookings.

The garden rooms are tired and need updating. They were opened in 1982 and there is a feel that they haven’t been refurbished since. Maybe it’s a case of you get what you pay for. Breakfast has also limited in choice and quality. The avocado and eggs on toast was inedible and it’s tricky to get that dish wrong.

Room was lovely and we decided to eat in the restaurant, rather than go out. A good choice. Food was very good and breakfast equally so. Staff very good and friendly. Some parts of the hotel starting to look a little tired but adds to the character. Overall an excellent experience and very happy with the decision to stay here

We stay regularly here. Overall it's slightly tired but also quirky. The staff are polite and diligent and the breakfast is excellent. We keep coming back, guess that says it all.

Thd hotel room was ok, heati g didnt seem to work, room was very cold. Food was ok but very expensive for what it was, bottle of beer £7.50...wow. Nice location, could do with updating as a hotel.

Overpriced for what it was. Service charge ????? What is this ?? Went for cheapest thing on the menu because of work £18-25 for not great fish and chips bill came to £20. 25. Apparently that the service charge. If I want to tip then I will tip.

A clean and spacious room for a standard double. Too expensive for the dog fee (£25 per dog!). I was woken up at 8.30 by hammering just outside my window, where a workman was hammering a new door. This went on until 11.00. Particularly annoying as the part of the hotel I was in (garden lodge) was labelled “quiet” and guests were asked to be quiet. Won’t be back.

We stayed in one of the garden rooms with a balcony and were very impressed by the size and the cleanliness. We had an evening meal in the restaurant and were surprised to be the only ones dining. The food was superb, really hot and delicious. We also took advantage of their Fizz Friday promotion and had a very nice bottle of prosecco, too.

Stayed for one night July 26. Room was nice and clean, comfy bed and air con which during the heatwave was a definite plus Only let down by the shower which obviously had a water restrictor on it. Took ages to get a decent shower. Breakfast, buffet starters with orders for cooked breakfast. Good, hot and large servings. Tea and coffee had obviously been brewed some time before. Bar prices were usual London excessive prices but that’s the same everywhere round London. Staff were friendly and efficient.
