Given ground floor on courtyard and was a little worried about noise but no problem. Paid £4 for parking which wasn’t advertised on hotels.com but it was a big car park and safe and had a barrier. Can’t comment on the rest of the hotel as we booked in at reception and went outside to courtyard rooms. Didn’t opt for breakfast as was up and on our way. Would stay again at this hotel if we were in Grantham

To be honest, the reception was great, the room generally clean and tidy, although the sheet on the double bed didn't fit and only just covered the top of the mattress. We had dinner in the bistro, as we had a dog with us. He was welcome to stay with us, but we could only eat in the bar area. This was fine as on a Friday evening there was hardly anyone in the bar area. The food was fantastic and there was plenty of it.

Front of house staff were exceptional. My booking hadn’t been printed for them but it was quickly resolved. Room was cold and staff very promptly provided a plug in radiator for us. Overall clean and pleasant smelling. Bed was a bit soft for our liking and the bathroom blind had to be down when toileting or showering as the glass is not frosted. TV made a weird buzzing noise all night so had to be unplugged. Parking is convenient and secure and a bargain at £4/night. Will definitely consider staying again.

This is a gem of a hotel! Historical, dating back to the 13th century with a long list of famous people who stayed in the inn. Smallish - so it has small town feel - lots of locals stopping by for tea. Very friendly and experienced staff. Great food, the rooms were very comfortable and well appointed. Easy to get to and great location. I would happily stay here again!

Within walking difference to everything and convenient for restaurants and pubs. Hotel lack a bit of attention to detail. Dust on dado rail, missing light bulbs in bathroom only I small bottle of water in a double room and tv signal not good. Also on the Saturday when we arrived there was a bbq with loud music in the courtyard that went on till the evening. A nice historic hotel but could be better.

Check in time is 4.00pm, which seems rather late. We arrived around 3.00pm, our room was ready but had to pay £10 for early check in, ridiculous!! Room was Dusty, shower head needed attention, bathroom blind bent and very dusty, basin had a very large crack - unhygienic! We had to change rooms as a problem with the plumbing. Second room, television had no signal, sink draining away slowly obviously blocked. Shower head not working properly, old chewing gum pack under window. This hotel could much be better, with a bit more care and attention.

Excellently located to wander around Grantham centre. Key code operated car park was a welcome addition and was only £4 for one nights / two day trip. Reception staff were very friendly and welcoming but it appeared there was nobody on hand to help with baggage up the stairs, unfortunately. The room was very clean but was tired in places and so was the bathroom - most of the woodwork could do with a spruce up but the suite was in good condition. I would definitely stay here again should I have the need to visit Grantham.

It was a really lovely hotel. Very friebdly night receptionist. I only got to the hotel at 11pm and left at 9.30 the next morning, but my room was super clean and very comfortable. The only thing that could have made it better was more sockets, but really that's such a tiny thing. I just unplugged something else and plugged my bits in. Bed was really comfy.

A very good mix of old and modern. The beautiful old dining room and the bar are full of character. The rooms are comfortable and modern. The bathroom was stylish and spotlessly clean. I would love to have had longer to stay and enjoy exploring the area from the perfect base.

Communal areas were lovely and the breakfast was nice, the staff were also very friednly. The room, however, was small and didnt feel clean at all, hairs not belonging to myself in the bed sheets and all over the towels, the taps were all broken, the bathroom fan was so loud, the dressing table felt like it was about to collapse. The rooms definitely needed updating and cleaning. The car park at the rear is defintley a bonus.

Room very small, told i had booked small double, booking reference says Classic room, no mention on how tiny it was. TV only worked intermittently even when adjusted by hotel staff. Staff attentive, polite, informative.

Perfect location for town. Lots of old charm and helpful staff. The room was very spacious but where it falls down is the lack of air conditioning or fans as the room does gets warm and some of the sash windows won't open . The 4pm check is also very late for what I'd expect these days.You can check in earlier but it's £10 per hour which is excessive ... oh and another £4.50 for carparking so there's a few more charges to consider.

The property was lovely. Quirky inside. I liked the rustic vibe. The lovely lady behind the reception gave us an upgrade into a room which had a bath for my to use after I’d just completed the Worlds Toughest Mudder event near by. The room however was so hot and a tiny fan just wasn’t suitable enough. Apart from the heat the one nights stay was pleasant.

Room was a junior suite and was a bit disappointing. Curtains held up with safety pins, and the net curtain fell down. Then other residents making loads of noise in their room until 4am(windows open) then in the court yard at 5am smoking and again making loads of noise waking us and other residences. Not the best stay i am afraid.

Wasn't told that breakfast not included and would cost £19. Car park £4 extra. Was told on arrival that music would be played in the evening in courtyard outside window until 11pm. Music was very very loud and so loud I couldn't hear the tv. People in courtyard late at night after music finished were noisy.

Always enjoy staying here. Splendid room, spacious and comfortable. Building itself is historic. Breakfast was very good and worth having, not least for the magnificence of the surroundings. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent.

Room was quite small but liked the modern bathroom and walk in shower. Many stairs to first floor but asked for assistance with luggage. Tv brightness seemed non adjustable but mentioned to reception when leaving.

Angel & Royal is the second oldest hotel in the UK. Unfortunately it is looking tired and in need of updating managerially. You are greeted with no check in until 4.00pm unless you pay for an early check in. Then strangely for the locale you are asked to pay for parking £4.00 in their car park.(Grantham is NOT a vibrant town centre). Breakfast at A&R is £17.99 per person extra. Not a good start for a hostelry with so much history. We were allocated room 103. A junior suite room. A good size rooms with dated furniture, but with a modern bathroom. The windows, window nets and curtains were not fully functioning. The large bed was comfortable. However directly across from the room was the kitchen and kitchen fans. These were not turned off until circa 9.45pm. Perhaps the mood of the Hotel reflects the mood of the town - moving into a spiral of depression!

This is a super hotel in the heart of Grantham. Having flown in from the US and wanting an early check in, I was told no rooms were ready. When pressed, receptionist said I could pay $10 an hour for early check and hey presto a room was suddenly available... I found this very disappointing and distasteful customer experience.

For medical reasons my husband and I need single beds. The original booking provided this but on the first floor. My husband has many serious health issues including heart problems. On explaining the dilemma, coupled with the fact that we live in a bungalow and don't really do stairs, I understand some calls were made which culminated in us being able to use the ground-floor accessibility room without causing anyone else a problem. It suited our needs perfectly. We didn't feel we were being a nuisance, in fact, it came over as perfectly normal for guests needs to be accommodated if possible! So refreshing in this day and age. Lovely atmosphere which was particularly nice as the reason for our visit was not a happy one and on returning to the hotel you couldn't help but feel calm. ALL staff were so friendly and helpful, including our room cleaner. My husband needs to take his time in the mornings and she said she would service two other rooms before returning to us. By then we had left for the day. So thoughtful, and not a hint of us being made to feel awkward. The building is very old and it's interesting how it's been adapted. The whole hotel was extremely clean. The food was devine!! And the picture in the Bistro gave me hours of happy research!!

Lovely atmosphere which was particularly nice as the reason for our visit was not a happy one and on returning to the hotel you couldn't help but feel calm. ALL staff were so friendly and helpful, including our room cleaner. My husband needs to take his time in the mornings and she said she would service two other rooms before returning to us. By then we had left for the day. So thoughtful, and not a hint of us being made to feel awkward. The building is very old and it's interesting how it's been adapted. The whole hotel was extremely clean. The food was devine!! And the picture in the Bistro gave me hours of happy research!!

Very old medieval and later era buildings. Only stayed one night but the staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. Carried our heavy bags through a labrynth of stairs and rooms. A chimney fire evacuated us in early morning but it was handle without furor and very cautiously. A big thank you to their staff.

The hotel is conveniently situated in the middle of Grantham, the High street is at the front of the hotel. Good parking at the rear (cost £4). We were given a room with an independant front door which was useful. the room was upstairs with two well lit windows. The bathroom is large with a good shower. Usual amenities in the room. The room is spacious and clean (except under the bed). There is no Air conditioning. We were charged £20 extra for our dog. We went elsewhere for breakfast as it was not available in the hotel. We would rate this an upper 3 star hotel.

Stunning old building, right in the heart of Grantham making everything we wanted just a short walk away. The staff were all very friendly and courteous at all times. £4 a day parking was a major plus point. Would thoroughly recommend.

Excellently located to wander around Grantham centre. Key code operated car park was a welcome addition and was only £4 for one nights / two day trip. Reception staff were very friendly and welcoming but it appeared there was nobody on hand to help with baggage up the stairs, unfortunately. The room was very clean but was tired in places and so was the bathroom - most of the woodwork could do with a spruce up but the suite was in good condition. I would definitely stay here again should I have the need to visit Grantham.

Wasn't told that breakfast not included and would cost £19. Car park £4 extra. Was told on arrival that music would be played in the evening in courtyard outside window until 11pm. Music was very very loud and so loud I couldn't hear the tv. People in courtyard late at night after music finished were noisy.

If you’re Gluten Free and looking for a wonderful place to stay, then this is IT!!! Not only do they have dedicated GF items on their menu, but they’re a 5-minute walk away from THREE great places that serve GF food! 1. Cinco Lounge 2. Prezzo 3. Costa Coffee There’s also two awesome antique stores within walking distance, and a farmer’s market! As for the hotel staff itself, the staff were nothing short of wonderful and very accommodating! We had fresh toiletries and towels delivered to us almost daily, and ordered room service multiple times without any issues. Didn’t have any of the 21 beverages so I can’t comment on that, but I’m sure they’re great! Most definitely looking forward to booking future stays :).

Always enjoy staying here. Splendid room, spacious and comfortable. Building itself is historic. Breakfast was very good and worth having, not least for the magnificence of the surroundings. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent.

Stayed here a few times when visiting family. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Breakfast is amazing, really sets you up for the day. Living in the US you don't get breakfast like this. The only thing I would like to see is the amenities in the bathroom more eco friendly. Liquid hand soap as opposed to a bar. Some hotels even have the dispensers in the showers. This would have been handy for our shower as you had to put the shower gel on the floor. Coffee, not used to making this with a kettle but its' fine. The court yard now has seating which really looks lovely. Love the interior of the hotel, a very trendy feel which mixes well with such a beautiful building. Over all we would highly recommend this hotel if visiting the area.

This hotel is superb, wonderful rooms in a historic building. The facilities in the room were excellent - spacious, comfortable and comprehensive in what was provided. The breakfast was first rate as well. Enjoyed it so much I am keen to return. It is my idea of the ideal hotel.

The down side was being charged for overnight parking because we had not booked directly with the hotel. Breakfast was acceptable but expensive as there was no way to have a smaller breakfast at a slightly less price. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
