Poppy Cottage in the Pines-Spring Special 3/1 thru

Rating Details: The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My wife and I found the architectural design intriguing and artistic, but not very functional or comfortable compared to the several other homes we have rented in Cambria.The Good: the kitchen was very well stocked with useful gadgets like a coffee mill, diverse cooking utensils, and genuinely sharp cutlery. The beds and bedding were of excellent quality as were towels and toilettries. There is a small enclosed dog run behind the house for your pooch which comes in very handy.The Bad: this house is a giant echo chamber where sound resonates all over. The "master bedroom" is not a room, but rather a loft open to downstairs noise, and heat from below makes it a pretty warm area for sleep. There are multiple large windows without any kind of shades or curtains in the upstairs, so anticipate rising with the dawn and using ear plugs if anybody stays up with the tv downstairs.The Simply Annoying: the gas cooktop needs to be replaced or repaired due to the burners not lighting without a flame from a match. The gas fireplace needs a remote, leading one to simply leave it on because the manual switch (which is broken but functional) is very awkward to activate. The driveway and the garage are not in alignment requiring a turn at the entrance to get the car in, and there is construction material stored on one side limiting the space for such a turn on pulling out. In the dark, it is challenging! And finally, while we rarely need it, there is no clothes dryer (or washer) so when you arrive wet, expect to air dry your damp clothes.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house served as a great launching pad for the days' various activities. The neighborhood was quiet and the house's interior was clean. The outside could have used some time with a leaf blower, but that's a minor detail.

The house was dusty and the outside decks were filthy. I had to dust off the patio furniture. We couldn’t use the BBQ because it was rusty. Master shower faucet needed to be pulled out but I couldn’t do it since I had surgery. The property advertised a washer and dryer but it was located in an old dirty outside shed. The dryer did not work. A sign in the house suggested we take our dirty laundry home. Such a disappointment because this house could have been really nice. The walk down to the beach was not 18 minutes as it advertised. Won’t be back to Cambria for a long time.

We had an incredibly peaceful stay at Poppy house. The beds and linens are comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Close to town but we enjoyed the trees, daily deer sightings and wild turkeys. We will be back!
